We decided to eat here for Father's Day. Life has been crazy with two boys, and the last time we had KBBQ at a restaurant was before they were born, so over three years ago. The last time I ate at this location was actually right before I gave birth, and I remember having an amazing experience, so I was excited to come back. Unfortunately, this time was anything but amazing. We got there around 1 p.m. It was busy, but not crazy busy. Our waiter seemed so confused the entire time. After taking our order, he never brought out the food and kept coming back asking if we were waiting for anything... uh, yes... our food. Then when we'd say yes, he'd ask us what we were waiting for. Doesn't the tablet tell you what we ordered? It took about 25 minutes just to get our appetizers and around 40 minutes to get our first plate of meat. You can order four meats at a time, but we were still missing one from our first order. We reminded our waiter multiple times, and every time he'd ask us what we were missing instead of just checking. After we finished our first order, we put in our second order. About 30 minutes later, we reminded him twice that we were still waiting, and still nothing. That's when another waiter came over because I guess he could tell we looked upset. He asked if we needed anything, and I told him we were still waiting on meat from our second order. He got it out pretty quickly, but by then we had already been sitting there forever. After two hours later, we decided to leave. We didn't even want to order anymore because we didn't want to sit there waiting another 30-40 minutes. We were there for almost two hours and only got seven plates of meat. We usually eat way more. We had our 3-year-old with us too, and expecting him to sit there that long waiting for food just wasn't happening. It definitely wasn't worth what we paid. I'm honestly still shocked by how much our waiter struggled. He didn't remember anything we ordered and just kept asking us what we were waiting for instead of checking his tablet and bringing out food. Gen BBQ is a very nice, clean and relaxing place that is good for dinner with friends. The staff was friendly. They offer soju or beer but not a full bar. The premium menu upgrade has incredible cuts of meat like the marinated skirt steak and prime kalbi ribs. It was delcious. The only draw back is that ordered meats or drinks took a while to come out. Several times in our sitting, we were waiting around with empty plates, empty sides, and an empty grill. We had to ask for sauces for 2 people when they never got sauces. We had to ask for napkins twice. It all just lagged quite a bit. Overall, I liked the vibe of the restaurant and the cut of meats were exceptional. It's a good restaurant. I will say though the dinner shift staff coming in were much more attentive and friendly. Kimchi was both too sour and lacking in fermented flavor. The new bulgogi fries are pretty good if you already like how they marinate their bulgogi. The steak is my favorite. So tender and juicy. The woobaesal was also incredibly rich and fatty. Everything else is just okay in my opinion. They don't let you order dupes of the same meat per order so you have to play this game with the server of ordering the one thing you want, waiting a while, and asking for another one. My family and I are regulars at Gen Korean BBQ--we probably visit once or twice a month, and it has become one of our favorite places to eat. We recently visited in June and noticed a few changes to the menu and ordering system. Previously, we could order multiple servings of the same meat in one order, but now they require different selections per round. While it took a little getting used to, it definitely didn't affect our overall experience. The food is still delicious, the quality remains consistent, and the service continues to be fast and attentive. We were also excited to see some new additions to the menu, including hotteok (Korean sweet pancakes) and other dessert options. Best of all, the macaroon ice cream is back! My kids and I were so happy to see it return. The ambiance is always pleasant, and the location is convenient for us. We usually visit during slower times, which makes for an even more relaxed dining experience. Overall, Gen Korean BBQ continues to be one of our go-to restaurants. It was meh. I was with a huge work group full of frat boys turned into professional pharmaceutical manufacturers... so I empathize with the servers who were waiting on us. However, there was an unignorable mismatch between the tables who seemed to be getting a jumbled array of everyone else's orders and the ones who were left with empty grills. Beer tubes were getting mixed up, soju concentration was inconsistent each round, grills were neglected, we had to get our own napkins and tongs, one table was getting all the attention while others had to keep checking on their requests, etc. I'm glad work paid for this because I wouldn't come back or make a recommendation for large parties. read more

Other than that, this place used to be my go-to. Great customer service and attentive staff, I was a regular. My husband and I frequent another KBBQ establishment quite often but was recently gifted a gift card to Gen so we were excited to give them a try. We came twice and both visits were so disappointing. During our first visit, we came for a late lunch and were quickly seated. There were only a few other tables being served but the food still took a long time to come out. During our meal, we also noticed there were several flies flying around our table but tried to shrug it off as a one-off. During our most recent visit, it was much busier and we noticed a thick layer of smoke in the air right when we entered. After we sat down, our server told us they were out of 3 items that night, one of them being the Galbi which I had planned on ordering so that was disappointing. We ordered a couple appetizers, a few meat options, a side of hot sauce, and 2 sodas. 1 appetizer never came at all, the hot sauce took several reminders until we finally got them about an hour into our meal, and they forgot our second soda. When we reminded them and finally got the soda, they were both flat and slightly lukewarm. Meat quality is okay and on par with other KBBQ spots. Really wanted to love them as it would be great to alternate between different KBBQ spots but the service really brought our experience down. We constantly felt like we were waiting on something and had our head on a swivel trying to find our server the whole time. Glad we tried Gen but we don't plan on returning. read more

GEN IS GEN. So if you're here for the food review just know it's the same as every other Gen. Solid, consistent, 5/5 across the board. Now for everything else that sets a place apart... The bathroom definitely needed some attention, but to be fair, we went late night during a busy rush. I try not to base my whole review on that because I get it, shift changes and dinner chaos. But service... that's where things fell off for us. We got seated with no utensils and no sides. We constantly had to ask for drink refills, plates, and chopsticks. The moment we opened the doors, the whole vibe changed. The restaurant was lively, upbeat, clean, and smelled amazing. The staff greeted us right away and made us feel welcome from the start. As always, first the good. We were greeted and seated quickly and with a smile. The guys that took the old smoking bbq brazier lids did a great job. Nothing went right after that. We were six guys and were seated in a booth that did seat six. Tight but it worked. With only one brazier for six people we ate like birds as you could not cook enough food for everyone to have a normal serving. Some ate. Some didn't. The Service was terrible: rushed, non-caring and we had to ask (not kidding) five times for extra condiments and appetizers. Drinks were not refilled without a lot of asking and..... when we would order proteins they brought only one or two portions of the food -for six people! We kept having to ask for more food instead of them bringing more at one time. It was frustrating and really slowed the dinner down. The food was okay to good. Nothing was OMG great. When we told a lady who asked how we were we let her know we were not being taken care of. Instead of handing it she got our server who then looked annoyed and told us they were backed up on the appetizer station. Well... in total it took 15 minutes to get a simple app. Just not well run. Our table waited around 30-40 minutes just for meats to arrive, and when they did come, it felt like everything was being trickled out instead of served in a way that could support a large group. For Korean BBQ, the service and timing of the meats are a major part of the experience, and this completely missed the mark. The drink service was also very poor. Several items from the menu were unavailable, and they did not seem to have a full bar despite listing those options. Our drinks never came, and when we asked about them, we were told they were still "making the soju," which was confusing and frustrating after such a long wait. The restaurant was not even busy, which made the delays and lack of organization even harder to understand. The atmosphere was also disappointing -- no music, very quiet, and no real energy for a team gathering or dinner experience. Overall, this was a very frustrating visit. For a reserved party of 20, we expected better preparation, communication, faster service, and a more organized dining experience. Usually, I am very generous with my ratings and reviews but I am highly disappointed in this location for an amount of things that happened during our recent dine in experience. While I understand that kbbqs can get busy leading to some mistakes being made, i feel like this wasn't the case. To start, we had gotten seated around 9, we were the only ones in the back (near their kitchen/bar) where we could easily be forgotten about. It was weird because we saw many booths that looked available but when we asked if we could be seated somewhere without a vent blowing on us they said no other tables were open. We didn't think anything of it at first since things were fine at first--Our server, Tjay checked up on us maybe once or twice before we had to literally raise our hands or wave at other servers when we wanted to order more meats/ sides, we eventually got to place another order of meats and ended up waiting for about 15-30ish minutes before we started thinking if he forgot our order. We tried looking for him and gave him grace if he was on break, however we had to get a bussers attention because no one else bothered to ask us if we were doing okay, clearly seeing that we had no meats or anything else to eat. The busser ended up asking the bartender to help us and that's when he told us that the meats we had ordered were no longer available. We asked for other meats (brisket and beef belly) and he came back telling us they were out of that as well. I mean, again I understand that it can get busy but to run out of meats 2 hours before closing is wild to me. We were a little annoyed from then on since our server took our order without telling us what was not available anymore and we waited a good amount of time without food. Not once had he come by to ask us if we wanted to order more or if we were doing fine. Even when we were able to talk to him, you could clearly see we needed a grill change but I guess he decided to ignore it and leave us be. I know we could've said something as well but do we always have to ask for things? Shouldn't it be the servers job to make sure their tables are okay? We even saw him walking around to what looked like him chatting with his coworkers or doing closing procedures. I understand these things can happen but the lack of responsibility and care from our server is what made the experience to terrible. This is the best Korean BBQ I've had in terms of meat quality. We enjoyed our Thanksgiving feast here and I appreciate that they were open for the holiday. The service could be improved, but I understand it was a busy day. Simon really stood out. He's a hard worker and made sure our grill was changed promptly. Zinna was also very accommodating. I ordered the premium option and the meat quality was excellent, well-seasoned and flavorful. The side dishes were also outstanding with a great variety. I came here with a party of 5 on a Sunday afternoon and there wasn't really a wait since it was in between lunch and dinner. First thing is they changed all the pans to the nonstick pans. Our server mentioned that it's now the ones with Teflon and honestly that just grossed me out. 1. When the grill burns so does the teflon 2. You scrape the grill with the metal tongs when cooking the meat sometimes and that's not great either There's a radish now to clean the grill in between cooking. I would much prefer the stainless steel grills but I think they changed it because it was harder to clean. Also lack of smoke system and all of us smelled very strongly after walking out. Service was good, our waitress was trying her best we could tell. Kitchen was a bit backed up as usual and we got our stuff late/things missing which was typical. read more

We came here at opening 11:30am (opens at 11am) and upon walking into an empty establishment, the employee at the front tells us that they are sold out of 7-8 menu items, including the most popular items. How are you sold out at opening? Then he clarifies Itll be available in one hour. We leave for 45 minutes and walk around the plaza, walk back in, and there's a different person at the front stating the truck with the out of stock items will arrive in another 1.5 hours. If you don't have most of your menu items 2.5 hours past opening, that's really poor management. So disappointing and unclear communication to keep changing the estimated time as well. read more

I've had them limit it to 1 hour ordering window instead of 90 minutes because they were busy and I asked them next time and they said they sometimes try to do that if it gets really busy which isn't fair because it gives some people a worse experience then others based on how busy it is. Five awesome stars! Anthony provided excellent service today, thank you kind sir! He was friendly, quick and efficient in handling our orders. I am a brisket girl through and through so that is always my go-to at all KBBQ spots. So of course I ordered 2 of those. We also sampled their premium steak and pork belly...nice big cuts that were tender and juicy. I was surprised to find Carne Asada on the menu so we ordered that as well. It came with two small corn tortillas and a sampler of salsa, which was a nice addition. They offer the typical requisite sides like japchae, salad, corn cheese, kimchee fried rice and calamari plus so much more. It's hard not to fill up on the sides tho, lol. This restaurant is lively, has good music playing in the background and a full bar in the corner. The ambience is bright with leather booths and chairs...very upscale. Very fun atmosphere! and we actually ran into my in-laws here who had the same idea! GEN is located in a very busy strip mall where there is a movie theater so plan accordingly.
