I've been to PCD before but not this location. Came for a Friday dinner around 5PM and it wasn't very busy but more people came in as we ate. I got the PCD broken rice with 2 proteins: pork and egg rolls. The portion was ginormous! The pork was tender and flavorful, and the egg rolls were thick and crispy. It also came with picked veggies, fish sauce and a beef soup on the side. My mom thought the chicken pho was too plain and the chicken was chewy. Service was quick and friendly. We came to our favorite pho restaurant because we were both in the mood for our usual dishes. And I thought it would be helpful to provide some pictures of the updated menu, since the current uploaded menu photos are a bit old. - Lemongrass beef bahn mi 5/5 ($10.75): The tender beef is perfectly seasoned. The French bread is fresh with a crusty exterior and a soft fluffy interior. I always get extra pickled veggies for free. There is a side bowl of soup that is super rich in flavor; it is probably their usual pho broth, but without the noodles diluting things, the soup is particularly flavorful. -PCD special Pho w/ fatty brisket 5/5 (XLarge $13.75. The regular is $12.75): This is a great deal with flavorful broth and a hefty portion size of fatty brisket. Service is quick and efficient (part of the service is provided by those mobile robot things). There are always a ton of indoor and outdoor seating whenever we come. We came in last week to get some pho as the local bowling alley had too long of a line, and this was a treat! I got the chicken combo with extra vegetables. The broth was hot and had a lot of garlic which I enjoyed. There was not a lot of chicken so next time I would just add more. Our server was kind, friendly and she checked in frequently. I would say the service here has gone down exponentially. It's slow, a lot of employees walking around, but not really paying attention if that makes sense. Some of them just standing there. I've never waited that long for pho. We basically waited over 45 min for someone to take our order then for food. Pho was ok. Not the best, but we were hungry. Place is clean. The robot waiters were getting lost and the employees had to move them around so they would get out of each others way. Caution! Never again. ​Came here on a Friday night around 6 PM. We were a party of 6 and got seated easily, which we thought was great. We were wrong. ​There was only ONE host/waiter for the entire restaurant. We noticed a lot of other tables that were seated but hadn't even had their orders taken. ​We decided to be patient, but after 15 minutes of just sitting there with no service, we saw other parties getting up and walking out. If you're following my reviews you can probably tell by now that I spent a good amount of time in Mira Mesa in December. I was in the area quite a bit and I'm glad that I got to visit some new places and also some old faves, like Pho Ca Dao. True story, this is the first place that I ever tasted pho in 2007 or 2008 so nostalgia for me is high here. My constant order is always the chicken pho and the pork and shrimp spring rolls. It's mid. Ordered the Pho Tai and the soup came out warm. It wasn't hot enough to cook the raw beef quickly. I waited a while for it to cook even halfway. By the time it was ready to eat my soup was just lukewarm. Never had this issue at any other pho place and have been eating Pho all my life. read more

I've always been a fan of Pho Ca Dao as a chain, and this was my first time checking out this location. The moment I walked in, you could smell the pho throughout the restaurant -- so warm and comforting! Luckily, the pho tasted just as good as it smelled. Definitely the star of the menu. I tried a few other items too, but they honestly felt like more of an afterthought. Not bad, just not super memorable. I also saw a flyer on the table advertising some drinks, but when I asked about them, they said those aren't available at this location -- kind of disappointing. I came in on a Sunday night and had no trouble finding parking or a seat. There were only a few other people dining, so it was pretty chill overall. Not my favorite Pho Ca Dao location, but still solid if you're here for a comforting bowl of pho and a low-key dining experience. read more

I haven't been here for over a decade. I originally went to their original location and knew that they upgraded but I don't live close by so never made the effort to come. But since we were in the area to go grocery shopping I was craving pho and I know Pho Ca Dao and their reputation. We came on a Saturday morning. The place wasn't too packed around 11. We ordered the spring rolls with shrimp and pork and I ordered the pho dac biet special. Wow, do they give you a huge portion! Lots of noodles, lots of meat, and veggies. Most places now really skim you on everything but not here. I was stuffed. Hella full. The beef is a lot better from what I remembered too. It's nice and soft and I can tell better quality as they grew their reputation. There's one in Escondido, closer to home, so we'll definitely be hitting that up to see if it's the same taste and quality. read more

Pretty darn good! It still has a classic old school pho take, but they've modernized the experience with a full bar and televisions everywhere. Definitely a sports bar feel which is great for game day! The Pho Dac Biet was fantastic along with some spring rolls and washed it all down with a Sculpin. I've ordered takeout from Phở Ca Dao a few times before and always enjoyed it, but this was my first time dining in. The food was incredibly delicious, but the full dining experience was honestly a letdown. I stuck with my usual order. the PCD Special Pho. As a creature of habit, I requested to swap the tendon and tripe for meatballs. When I've ordered takeout in the past, that substitution was always done at no extra charge. This time, however, dining in, I was told there'd be an upcharge. Not a huge deal, I'm happy to pay for what I want when I'm "treating myself", but the inconsistency just makes you think. That kind of policy should be communicated the same across the board. The restaurant itself wasn't busy for lunch today, and I always found it very clean all the time I picked up my takeout orders. It's the kind of place where you feel totally comfortable showing up in gym shorts, so you shouldn't feel the need to dress up. The dine-in service was also a bit lackluster. When the server came to the table, there wasn't a proper greeting, just a straightforward "Are you ready to order?" which felt more like a transaction than hospitality. My egg rolls and pho came out at the same time, which threw off the dining pacing a bit. Personally, I like to enjoy my appetizer before diving into my bowl of soup. No one checked on me during the meal either, and my water was never refilled. I'm not high-maintenance, but with 10+ years in the industry myself, I can't help but notice when the basics of hospitality are missing. To top it off, I had to go up to the counter to pay since no bill was dropped at the table. Not a huge issue, but as someone who's worked in restaurants, details matter. I usually overtip the waitstaff, even on my takeout orders, but this time I felt 15% was more than fair for the level of service. That said, I'm still giving 4 stars. The pho really does hit different when it's fresh from the kitchen compared to takeout. I honestly do think that their food is that good for their value, and that's why I kept coming back. I didn't want to knock it down to 3 stars because the food still deserves a lot of praise. Just a bit of a bummer, especially since I picked this place as my farewell meal before leaving San Diego. We ordered takeout around 8:30 pm, just before closing (they close at 9). When we got home and started eating, we found an insect in one of the soups, it looked like a cockroach. I took photos immediately. I tried calling the restaurant that night, but they were already closed. We contacted them the next morning to request a refund. They told us their system closes out every night and that they couldn't issue a refund, and instead offered us more food. Given the situation, we were obviously not comfortable accepting more food. Finding a bug in food is extremely concerning, and the lack of accountability afterward made the experience worse. This was disappointing and not something I ever expected from a restaurant. I think the portion of fish sauce that they give is a little low for the amount of vermicelli that it comes with. The grilled pork, interestingly, is more like a pork loaf or sausage that is sliced and grilled rather than the traditional thin sliced marinated meat. I prefer the standard kind, but others may disagree. Also ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee, which was excellent and brewed tableside. This place used to be good. I was going here for over ten years. Two days ago I called to make an order to go and they tell you 10 minutes. I arrived 15 minutes later and it takes them 10 more minutes to have my order ready. I complained to them about that and my food came out bad. I've never had broth as thick as the broth they gave me, chicken smelled funny And they were laughing in the back through the little hole they have in the wall when I complained about the time. We visited around 7pm on Friday. There were plenty of parking spots in the back and plenty of tables. The waiter and waitress were very nice. They've got the robots that carry food over to the tables. We got: N1 house special pho that's got everything. It's pretty big and looks decent. N18 that's steak pho. For some reason the soup is yellow. It's so yellow even the noodles turned yellow. The soup is on the sweeter side. VN1 that's spicy lemongrass beef soup. It looked like regular pho with added spicy oil on top. But the lemongrass flavor is there. It's not really spicy and it doesn't come with the proper vegetables that normally come with this soup. Oh and no sate sauce either. It's ok but definitely not like the real bun bo hue. We also have a pick your own protein vermicelli bowl (grilled pork/egg roll vermicelli salad bowl). It's pretty decent in size. The egg roll was a little burnt but I am not picky. We Also got a rice dish that's got lemongrass beef and garlic rice. Oh this dish was not good, the rice was dry and had minimum garlic flavor. The onion was raw so it's kinda spicy (not a fan of this). I would say this is the worst dish tonight.
