Be prepared to be disappointed we were also told if we don't eat our whole choice we would be charge 5.00 LOL at that because if we didn't eat all of the Garlic Chicken, Breaded Shrimp or the Tofu soup they would have to clean up after us. We used to love coming here, so this visit was genuinely disappointing. To start with the positives: the staff was friendly and attentive throughout our visit, and the hosts seated us within the expected timeframe, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't the same as it used to be. Several menu items we loved are gone -- including the volcano chicken -- and they no longer offer rice paper, which really changes the experience. Even more concerning was the quality of the meat. Every cut we tried was overly fatty and congealed, and the bulgogi in particular wasn't cut properly, making it chewy and unappetizing. This place used to be a go-to for us, but based on this visit, the food quality has taken a noticeable step backward. Service was good, it was busy, we had to flag down the waiter a couple times, but he did well. Great AYCE price at $29/dinner. Enough banchan offerings kimchi, spicy cucumbers, potato salad, pickled daikon, pickled jalapeños, edamame. Good selection of meats, ribeye, bellies, pork, short ribs, both in sauce and without. KFC and other non grillable items were great as well. Looks like it's the place to have your birthday, with lots of drink options. We were there to eat so didn't order drinks this time. No ban chon served! Meats are limited but yet they priced it $30 per person. I suggested asking first what meats and items are available. The restaurant still uses QR code menus. I seen carne asada and tacos on the menu. Like ok cool if you're a fusion restaurant, but change the name bc it's misleading. Long story short, a lot of items we asked for were "not available " or "had to check to see if they still have some" including veggies!!! We asked for veggies twice and still did not get it. By that time I had to ask for the manager twice as well and felt like we were not priority. I voiced to, Kevin, how so many items were not available on the menu. Gen BBQ always struggles to fill a KBBQ craving. Every time I've been here, the service has always been so bad and so slow that you almost lose interest in eating because you're waiting so long between servings. Not to mention, things are always out of stock or unavailable and it really sucks when you go somewhere looking forward to something and it's not available. We went to the Gen in Vegas and it was amazing. This is night and day. Loud, run down, the food was meh. No sushi at this location.

The management is extremely poor. I made a reservation a week in advance for my family, a total of 11 people. When we arrived at the restaurant, they seated us at a long table that could accommodate 14 people, based on the number of chairs. Shortly after, they handed me a paper to sign, agreeing to an 18% gratuity because we had a large party. Then, a man who I believe was the manager came over and told us to move and squeeze in our chairs so they could seat another group of eight people at our table. I explained that we couldn't do that because the table was too small, there wouldn't be enough space for our food, and we had made a reservation expecting privacy for our family. We were told that they normally seat at least six people per grill, which is impossible given the short amount of time they allow us to eat!!! Furthermore, the manager was very rude and didn't even apologize for the circumstance. Such bad management and they don't prioritize clients' advanced reservations, but rather they are very profit-oriented. If we can give zero stars, we will. read more

We had called earlier about a large party a day in advanced, followed all the instructions, and still were met with issues. Hostess was rude and took a long time to provide the "correct paper work" - an hour to be exact. We had a reservation for 11:30AM and barely got seated at 12:30PM due to "staffing not being there on time". For a constant Gen goer, this experience had to have been the worst one. Luckily our server was great once they arrived.. Management can care less too unfortunately.. after advising about our experience their response was "what would you like me to do?".. As a previous manager, this is not the response you provide. You apologize for the experience, provide a resolution, and move along. Never thought I would ever write a bad review but I thought it was necessary. Once we got seated, we waited quite awhile before someone even came to our table (we were seated in the back corner). The first person that came to us looked like a manager and was wearing a nice dress shirt. He came up to us and in the middle of asking us if anyone helped us already, another table behind him called out to him and he kind of stuttered mid sentence, went to help them and never came back. We kept looking around for someone to pass by to ask them to help us, until finally our server came. And I've seen her walking around the restaurant when we first got seated, so wondering why it took so long to get to us. The food wasn't the quickest either but that's fine. We sat for almost 5 minutes with the food on the grill before we realized the grill was off. We caught another manager to help turn it back on. While he was working on that, I asked him what was in the Sweet Korean Pancakes that we ordered because I felt something in my throat, and he said there were peanuts in them. I got scared. The manager just looked speechless, like literally didn't say anything to help whatsoever. I left to go to a Target nearby to get some medication. They didn't even come back to check if their guest at their restaurant is okay. A server friend of mine who also works at kbbq said where he works, they always bring up the question if there are any allergies, but not at Gen. And it wasn't even in the description on their menu. They should at least note it there. Other than this, service was slow. We waited a long time after each round to reorder because no one was checking on us. Empty plates were not getting picked up as quickly as it should be. Tempe is already hot as it is, but the restaurant also didn't have the air vents that clear the smoke. Mind you the whole restaurant is essentially a kitchen, so without that we were just sitting and sweating in smoke. How enjoyable! The server also said that the iced green tea is the same price as the hot. I got the hot and she decided to get the iced. When we got the bill, the iced was more expensive than the hot. The only good thing was the short ribs/kalbi. The bulgogi was super clumpy and the other meats were just mid. I was already iffy about coming here because I heard from other people telling me not to but I thought, might as well try it since I've never been. Big mistake. Gen has seriously deteriorated over the last 6 months. It feels like the quality of meat and the overall service have been awful. The only thing that might be saving it is it's all you can eat deal and ambiance. When I went there, it felt like it took hours for us to even get any food or drinks and when we did get our meat, they brought the wrong type. Our waiter was very rude and never came to check on our table so we had to keep asking other waiters for more meat and drinks. There were times we even made eye contact with our waiter but it felt like he was purposefully avoiding our table and the tables around us. And the few times we were able to get ahold of him, he would always say that he's busy and will help us as soon as he can but then we actually were watching what he was doing and he it seemed like he was acting busy but not actually doing anything at all. So that coupled with the already terrible meat definitely does not make this place look good. The only thing that does make it look good is the ambiance, where it's definitely vibey, however they don't have great ventilation so you smell like bbq after you leave. I've honestly never had such a disappointing experience at a restaurant. We sat for about 45 minutes while our waitress walked by and looked at us multiple times without ever coming over. We had to go to the host stand twice just to ask for help, and then had to request a manager more than once. After waiting another 30 minutes, the manager David finally came by only to say he had been in the back and not once did anyone apologize for the situation. Something was seriously off with the meat -- the marinades on the al pastor and pork bulgogi were thick and caked onto the meat. The result was a disgusting, chalky coating on an already chewy, low-quality cut. It's insane that this is one of the pricier KBBQ spots in the area and that it's somehow as popular as it is. Recently went in on Saturday, March 7. The meat was delicious. Service was nonexistent. The restaurant was not busy we got there at around 1:07-1::15 P.M. We were told it was going to be dinner prices we had no problem we were willing to pay being that we love the restaurant. Unfortunately you don't get the experience of a Korean barbecue anymore. You now have to ask for your Banchan instead of it being served as you get there. Including the salt ,pepper ,oils etc. are waiter would be missing for minutes on end and we'd have to ask for help from another waitress. He was so lost that we had to pay with the hostess without a receipt. Again it was not busy at all it seemed like the two men who were in sports coats where the managers were just hanging up front with the hostess. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. We came in on August 31, 2025, at 8:30pm and the experience was honestly ridiculous. It took 15 minutes just to get water while a bunch of high school staff stood around in the back. We ordered three briskets, which is their most popular meat, and it took 30 minutes for them to come out. I ordered a beer and that was late too. We never got any Banchan dishes and later found out that most of the menu was already sold out at 8:30pm at an "all you can eat" Korean BBQ. How does that even happen? The manager's excuse was that it was a holiday weekend, which makes no sense because that is exactly when you should be prepared. Instead, we paid almost $80 for two people and barely ate $10 worth of food. Our waiter never changed the grill, the manager gave excuses instead of an apology, promised us a 20 percent discount, and then conveniently didn't apply it when we paid. There was no explanation, no accountability, and no effort to make it right. If you advertise all you can eat, then actually provide all you can eat. Don't trick customers into paying $30 a head for a menu that is basically gone. This was a complete waste of time and money. read more

If I could give a 0 star I would, which is super unfortunate because Gen used to be our favorite place. When we arrived there was only a few tables and it was two of us. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks, and the first round of meats. Our server told us the system was changing so he had to manually write down the number to put into the system. We were understanding that it may take a few minutes longer. When we ordered our sides, we were told they were out of ALL sauces and seasonings, and sides other rice and garlic salt, and the soy sauce. He told us that the shipment never came in and he doesn't know why the restaurant never has items. ( I guess this is a regular occurrence) This is super frustrating that they advertise everything is included for 29.99 but yet every item we wanted was "out". Including sauces to season meats. If they are out of half of the menu this should be advised before being seated; or at the very least discount what the rate is for the menu. Drinks took a very long time to receive refills and meats were constantly being dropped at the wrong tables. We received several tables meats; after letting them know it was not our order. The food had little flavor due to no sauces being available other than soy sauce. Our server at one point had 6 tables and was really struggling. Instead of managers helping, several employees and managers were just standing at the front counter, chatting away. If you see a server struggling; I would hope that you would help but I guess not. Gen really needs to work on the service; food quality; and the staff who is supposed to be the backbone to help others. The restaurant had a lot of space and was very clean, I will give them that as a star. The staff who bussed the tables were super hard working and helped anyway they could. read more

A local and popular favorite of KBBQ in Arizona. Having tried many of the Gen Korean BBQ House franchise in CA this location was as par as the others. I did the Yelp check-in and got put in the waitlist on a busy Thursday night. NOTE you also need to check-in person as well to make sure you are at the restaurant. My party of 5 waited approximately 35-40 minutes and got seated at their booth. The food was great with my favorite being the galbi (short ribs) and chadol (brisket). Super easy to eat and very tender if cooked just right. You and the party do your own cooking so it can be made however you like just remember to cook the appropriate meats thoroughly to avoid food poisoning! Our server was a nice gentleman who seemed very busy throughout the night covering the whole back corner. Unfortunately, because of this busy time the service was quite slow. Our foods came out quick but ordering and when requesting for certain dishes, sauces, or even cups took a minute. Kitchen closes about half hour from closing time as well so we felt a bit rushed towards the end, but understood the reasoning. Our server was attentive towards the end and made sure we were all content with everything. Overall, great spot to dine and enjoy delicious KBBQ. DELICIOUS!!! Would highly recommend the Spicy Pork Bulgogi, Beef Bulgogi, and Top Sirloin. You really get a ton of food for the price you pay. The meal comes with unlimited sides like Gyoza (my personal favorite). It's fun to cook your meal with a group of friends or family. Gen KBBQ has a lively club-like atmosphere. They even sell light-up drinks. They do not take reservations here. It is a first come first serve basis. In addition, they will not seat you until everyone from your party is there. Let me start off by saying that Brandon our server was amazing but the manager which didn't wear a name tag or introduce himself (wore dress shirt, bald and walked around rolling his eyes) was awful the entire hour we were there... We went out for my birthday on Saturday evening big mistake to pick this place. I called ahead and asked for a table for 6. At the 30 minute mark the manager started coming around asking if we need anything (which is common) I asked for a fork he said "I knew you'd need something" he rolled his eyes and brought the fork so I just laughed and said okay thanks. At the hour mark he sent the server to tell us he needed the table. We had stopped ordering food we were finishing the last pork belly strip we ordered. I said to the table that's fine but technically we have an hour left and the men in our group wanted to order more beer. We decided to get our check and go somewhere else for drinks. The manager asked if he could check us out that he could do it at our table. My husband said let's split it into 3 he AGAIN rolled his eyes and I said your menu said we can split the check 3 ways max. My husband said we can get up and pay with everyone else he said no I can do it..... The way that manager acted the entire time was strange, rude and ruined the entire experience... we are not high maintenance, and I can't help but wonder if it was discrimination because of ethnicity or age... I had been waiting ALL weekend to have it just for them to tell me us there was no rice paper and they no longer get it (my actual favorite part) and they only had 1 kimchi side because they were out of everything else so 1/5 sides were available. This was a Monday.. all of our food arrived before our drinks, I had to ask for the sauces. Since they didn't have rice paper I told her I'll try the radish paper.. i never got the radish paper... then I asked for garlic, never got till I had to ask her again. I wanted the #1 meat they also didn't have. I'm just so disappointed in this place. My dinner wasn't enjoyable we just wasted money and gas coming out here.
