The manager was rude our entire experience. Let me start off by saying that Brandon our server was amazing but the manager which didn't wear a name tag or introduce himself (wore dress shirt, bald and walked around rolling his eyes) was awful the entire hour we were there... We went out for my birthday on Saturday evening big mistake to pick this place. I called ahead and asked for a table for 6. At the 30 minute mark the manager started coming around asking if we need anything (which is common) I asked for a fork he said "I knew you'd need something" he rolled his eyes and brought the fork so I just laughed and said okay thanks. At the hour mark he sent the server to tell us he needed the table. We had stopped ordering food we were finishing the last pork belly strip we ordered. I said to the table that's fine but technically we have an hour left and the men in our group wanted to order more beer. We decided to get our check and go somewhere else for drinks. The manager asked if he could check us out that he could do it at our table. My husband said let's split it into 3 he AGAIN rolled his eyes and I said your menu said we can split the check 3 ways max. My husband said we can get up and pay with everyone else he said no I can do it..... The way that manager acted the entire time was strange, rude and ruined the entire experience... we are not high maintenance, and I can't help but wonder if it was discrimination because of ethnicity or age... Many things have changed and I will no longer visit. Sides were missing, when asked for specific things I was met with "we no longer carry that." Had to specially ask for a salad. Multiple times the wrong food was brought to the table. The KFC (typically my favorite) is now just chicken nuggets with a little sauce splashed here and there. Since they didn't have rice paper I told her I'll try the radish paper.. i never got the radish paper... then I asked for garlic, never got till I had to ask her again. The wait time was much longer than quoted, which I would've understood if it had at least been accurate. Once seated, our server was kind and doing her best -- but clearly overwhelmed. It took quite a while just to be greeted, get water, receive plates, and have our first round of food brought out. The delays continued throughout the meal, and it was obvious she had too many tables to manage effectively. The biggest issue seemed to be poor floor management. If you're going to push a premium menu or encourage customers to spend more, the service should reflect that standard. Unfortunately, it didn't. However our service was decent and what we did order was very good unfortunately they were out of all chicken products and the beef bulgogi. The rating would honestly be higher if we had been able to sample all items on the menu and if we hadn't waited almost an hour even though we were sitting at the bar and saw people who came in after us be seated. Amazing! The service here was extremely prompt, every time we were ready to order more they were right there at our table. I wish all businesses had such attentive and responsive employees! I also loved how they changed out the grill so frequently and ensured that everything was refilled. When we arrived, we were seated promptly. I liked how spacious the place seemed despite the tables being pretty full. The tables seemed to be spaced apart well and I thought that was great. We ordered pretty much everything on the menu by the time we left. We made sure not to over order and to eventually basically order one of each of everything so we could get a sense of what we liked. Now that I know, I can skip some of the items I was not so keen on and to order more of what I fell in love with. For example, I really like the crispy rice noodles or tteokbokki. I was not too much of a fan of the sweet sauce on top. I like how the tteokbokki was crispy. The rice bowl comes out with a lot of rice. I might not order it next time but I do love rice so it would be very difficult not to. The meat with the pineapple slice on it was delicious. I also thought the cheese corn was good. I was surprised at how sweet it was. The cheese corn was almost like a dessert. The corn covered by cheese came out in a cute aluminum small pie pan. Every time we go we have to ask for napkins... repeatedly. Their grills sometimes don't work, and their waitlist system is horrible. The ambiance of the restaurant is great, good colors and music. We did and pretty much hit the mark with only about 5 minute live wait at the restaurant when we arrived. For meats we picked the bulgolgi, Hawaiian chicken, KFC, and beef brisket. I'd say the order of favorites is as I listed them. The bulgolgi was jam packed with flavor and such tenderness. Hawaiian chicken had a nice sweetness to it and cooked well. KFC was nicely crispy and sauced. And the brisket was tender and melted in your mouth. I liked that our server reminded us to order our sides and that she came around several times to make sure our experience was good and ask if we wanted any refills. some cons were that booths themselves have seen WAY better days as the one we sat at was worn so down I was nervous about falling through lol. Our server was great and kind however she was running around all night to her tables and hard to ask for items. We ordered drinks which came to the table late. The portions are small whether side dish or meat and yes they were out of a lot of things that were on the menu. It was like playing Russian roulette when asking for something off their menu to see if they had it in stock. The staff also began arguing right in front of our table which was very uncomfortable. The restaurant gets very loud quickly from the music and diners. The food was good and orders for meats came out quickly. Been coming to this Gen for a while now but it was my first time coming since the revamp and it's complete crap. New menu, but 90% of the items are unavailable. They have the new cheese tonkatsu as the first thing on the menu so I was excited to try- not available. Wanted to get the salad- not available. So many things unavailable for a weekday at 5pm. Was able to order the KFC, surprising! However, they completely changed the KFC and it's literally just frozen nuggets with sauce now. What happened Gen? The KFC was one of the best things on the menu since you can eat it while cooking the meats. We tried the rice cakes and those were inedible. It was so hard, I wouldn't have known it was a rice cake if I didn't order it. Also noticed that the fries are no longer on the menu. Why change a perfectly fine menu for the quality to drop?? Service was OK, never expect top notch when I come here anyway. Our server didn't bring any of the sides until halfway through the first round. She would let us know that she would put an order in for stuff that she wouldn't know is available or not, so not to get hopes up. Me and my friend decided to come here to try something new and different - new and different is definitely what we got! Starting with the process, wait time seems to always be long. There was always people coming and going. Because of this each table is given an hour and a half time limit to eat. Because this place is all you can eat there is also a leftover food fee if you try to take food home. For food, you're given a list of 30 items to choose from. When it comes out it is raw and you cook it yourself. This made me a little weary at times as I wasn't sure when meats, such as chicken, were done. Everything is eyeballed as no Thermometer was given. The food itself was okay. I hated some and loved some! The shrimp was my least favorite as it is awkward to eat. The shell, head, and legs are all still on the shrimp. The marinade was also bland and had a funky flavor. My favorite was the Hawaiian chicken. The marinade was amazing and the chicken had great flavor! Other things we ordered were steak, kimchi fries, and gyoza. Drinks were my favorite! And I would solely come back to this place just for drinks! I had two different soju drinks. One was a mango yogurt and the other (my favorite) was a lychee yogurt. I've walked by this joint many many times and never tried it. We arrived early and before they opened and there was already a line waiting of about 15 people. I attempted to put my group down for a waitlist, but they were moving fairly quickly with the spaced out seating in waves to probably not bombard the kitchen and servers. It looks like they had some issues with their systems, but they were still able to seat/put names down on another iPad. The food overall was decent, and I'd give it a 3 out of 5. Love the concept and interaction with cooking our food, but I just wish we had some general time frames shared with how long to cook during our welcome. Not all grills are the same, so it was a guess to figure out and place the food in the hot spots. Feedback wise, they may want to sharpen their scissors and / or have knives available to cut the meats as we share everything by cutting into smaller pieces to cook faster. It's usually a great experience at the Korean BBQ House restaurant. I have been here many times and the food is relatively very filling, however the waitstaff is subpar. The bulgogi beef is the best meat they serve here. The last time I went to his restaurant two weeks ago, I left my sunglasses at the table, and realized it as I was walking out of the door. I came back to the table and looked for the sunglasses. The table had not been cleaned yet, however my sunglasses were missing. I looked on the table, under the table, and everywhere, however it was not found. The manager and waitress was not helpful at all. The quality of food was just so bad, we only order one round and didn't even finish due to the way the meat looked. The place also looked dirty. Another thing that ruined our dinner was the loud music. I get it, they want the place to be trendy but the music is so loud like you're in a club... Gen please do better. Over 2 Hours for AYCE? Disappointing Memorial Day Visit We've been coming to this location for years--usually great food, solid service, and we never leave hungry. But this Memorial Day visit was a letdown, and something definitely seems to have changed at the Tempe Marketplace location. We arrived right at opening, 11:30 AM, and were among the first seated. They weren't busy either... Despite that, service was extremely slow. It took nearly 20 minutes just to get the first round of meats for the grill. Meanwhile, they brought out all the sides--salad, kimchi, corn, veggies, potstickers--which we had completely finished before any raw meat showed up. That's not normal. After we finally got our first round of meat, we placed a second order--and waited another 20+ minutes. This time, they brought out rice... but still no meat. When I followed up, the server casually mentioned they were probably out of the rolled beef/ribeye/belly (our favorite and their most popular item). We were told they ran out over the weekend--but we were literally the first table in on Monday morning. How is that possible? By the time we placed a third and final meat order, it was déjà vu--another long wait. In total, we were there for over 2 hours (in at 11:30 AM, out after 1:30 PM), even though the restaurant has a 90-minute dining limit per their own rules. We only ordered meat three times and 2-3 types each time and for 3 people--not an excessive amount--and each round took 20+ minutes to arrive. That's how slow things were. As we were finally wrapping up, the manager came by to tell us someone was running out to get more meat and it'd just be another 20-30 minutes. No thanks. This whole experience was frustrating and disappointing. First time I've ever left unsatisfied. This has always been one of our go-to spots, but this visit makes us question whether we'll be back. Chose up to 4 menu items at a time and prepare to cook the vast majority! Start with banchan and cooked items (japchae, Korean fried chicken, Seoul fries) if you're really hungry! Quality of the meat is good. Banchan and other items could be better- the Seoul fries were measly fries covered in sriracha and a few slivers of kimchi, cheese corn is a very small serving and not a cooked item. The Capri Sun Sojus are sweet, fun, and come with a LED light cube (that I always take home). The good points were the service (Oscar was very good), and the spicy pork bulgogi. Everything else was mediocre or bad. The meats were very disappointing. The steak was just steak. No seasoning, just basic beef flavor with some gristle. The garlic chicken was just chicken. Couldn't taste the garlic. The pork belly was surprisingly not flavorful. Really, the only good thing we had was the spicy pork bulgogi. That was tasty. Everything else was "meh". And the atmosphere was atrocious. It was LOUD. Not from conversations, but from the blaring music. This isn't a Forever 21, or some hipster clothing store. it's a place to eat and have conversations. In the past, when we've gone we've done the spicy bulgogi ( best option of meat on the menu) and the pork belly as our two protein options. Sides we do the slices garlic, kimchi and pickled onion & jalapeño. Salad is great with a light dressing that's delicious. Prefer this over filling up on rice. That pork meat is the most flavorful marinade! The thin slices cook quickly, and it's so tender and tasty!!! The pork belly is thick ( similar to bacon) It's salty, it's meaty, and it's hearty. This will take a little longer to cook as you'll want it seared and somewhat crispy. That all said, the staff is really kind. The environment and experience fun. Music a little to loud for our liking. Doubt we will be back in this upcoming year with the price increases and the lack of menu options.
