I did a search for classic cocktails and found this lil gem. It was early in the afternoon so it was just me and a couple at the bar. They seemed like locals, and were friendly. The bartender knew her stuff and shared with me that they had a happy hour special where you got to roll some dice to get some discounted drinks. I wasn't lucky with my roll, but sure was lucky with my Hemingway daiquiri. It was made with fresh juice and was very tasty. My visit was cut short with parental duties calling me. Enter General Horseplay, an eclectic and unique venue boasting superb beers, wines, cocktails, and even cold brew coffee and Non Prophet Kombucha. Additionally, they've got some snackable bites if you're looking for a little something to pair them with. Among my favorite cocktails, the Spiced Banana Daiquiri (Black Coral Spiced Rum, Banana Pureé, Lime) may not be quite what I envisioned, but somehow was even better, and came garnished with a brûléed banana. Also, a winner, the Happy Dagger, Be Brief (Real McCoy 5yr Rum, New Fashioned Syrup, Bitterman's Tiki Bitters), a well-balanced and enjoyable sipper of a cocktail. Horrible experience. We came to GH for craft cocktails. Due to COVID when we arrived we were asked to wait outside until room in the bar opened up, which was no problem. After waiting around 20 mins, a group of locals showed up and were usher directly into the bar. We alerted the bartender to this, who said sorry. That's it, just sorry, not hold on let me tell them you were in line. We ended up waiting a few more hours and were never let inside. Bad form! We won't be back. Stopped in on a rainy Sunday afternoon and the place was empty so the bartender Dave was more than happy to make us drinks and was very attentive. I started with El Cuerno de Aire which was a delicious combination of slightly sweet blackberry, tart lemon, and smoky mezcal. For my second drink, Dave recommended I Pity a Fool and while I was hesitant because I'm not a big whiskey fan I decide to trust him. I was not disappointed! It was a beautifully balanced cocktail and I enjoyed it even more than the first one. Overall great experience at this cocktail bar. Dave definitely made the experience - he was extremely knowledgeable and you could tell he loved his job and was happy to be there. COVID related: everything was clean and staff wore masks the entire time. There was even a funny poem in the bathroom to read to make sure you washed your hands for long enough. read more

Really was excited about this place and the music until my friend got really sick about being lied to regarding Gluten Free ingredients by a bartender. When I asked if New Amsterdam was gluten free, the green haired Short bar tender with pig tail buns on Sunday, 9/3/21 at 10PM/ the indoor bar responded that it was gluten free, like Tito's. But my friend got very sick quickly due to an allergy to gluten. She completely disregarded any concern and just said "They are all Gluten free". But she doesn't seem to Understand the importance of Celiacs and said he drank too much which was very insensitive. Thanks, for no hospitality. In essence the business is not careful to accommodate for allergies. We're sad. It was good music but that was pretty insensitive.
