The cocktails are amazing, the staff is extremely attentive, and the food was incredible. I ordered Leah's Back and the Dijon salmon. My husband opted for an old fashioned and the coq au vin. Both of our dishes were fresh, hot, and flavorful. We honestly could have split my entree and added a side. They have LOTS of gluten-free options for those with sensitivities or celiac. The service was great, and the various prices were moderate. Bathrooms were spotless, which is always our gauge for a well-run business. Parking is generous and well-lit. This is a great restaurant, outstanding food and outstanding service. It's such a shame that they get negatively impacted by what I consider to be a wrong decision as far as their Kashrut is concerned. I require kosher supervision and I understand that sometimes restaurants may have some difficulty in maintaining the high standards they even I require. But a serendipitous decision by a Mashgiach over frozen fish hardly qualifies the impugning of 12 years of Kosher service to the Houston community. Hopefully this will be reconsidered and Rabbi Dubin will not drive this Jewish business into bankruptcy. Maintain the standards but don't throw out the baby with the proverbial bath water. read more

I've been to Genesis twice now: once for lunch and once for dinner. For dinner I had the pecan-smoked beef rib. And let me tell you, it was amazing! The meat fell right off the bone and had an amazing bark that was incredibly flavorful. It didn't stand a chance. It's a large portion, so come hungry I also had a few selections from their sushi menu that were great. (I hear they have a roll that they set on fire, haven't tried it though.) But, how cool is that? They also have a beautiful bar, where the martinis were top-notch They also have an extensive wine selection. When I returned to Genesis for lunch, I opted to have the stuffed avocado, an appetizer, for my meal. I have a list of stuffed avocados that are my favorites around town, and this one shot to the top of the list. It's served open-faced loaded with chicken, onions, peppers and this unbelievable white-wine crema. Guys, it was a dream. Then, I find out it's dairy-free, which I never would've guessed because the flavor is so rich. Try it. Trust me. Overall, I love this little hidden gem. It's in a strip center, and when you walk in, you're greeted with beautiful decor and a romantic atmosphere. The food is fresh, delicious and of great quality. There is a beautiful, colorful wall located in the back which would be be great for photo ops! I found it interesting that another Houston restaurant (Peli Peli) has the SAME EXACT wall at! But let it be noted that Genesis opened long before Peli Peli...interesting. There is a separate event room if you would like to hold an event. Anyway, I didn't expect it to be so beautiful! Great to take a date! There is a bar area and separate dining areas. We sat at the bar. I had a very nice glass of sauvignon blanc. They have several drinks listed at happy hour prices. We ordered a stack of onion rings and short rib tacos. Both on the happy hour menu. The onion rings were delicious. The short ribs not so much! I don't recommend ordering! Extremely, extremely dry with zero flavor! It did come with a side of guacamole which was good. Bartender was very nice and food was brought out quickly. No complaints on service. I was in Houston with our US team for three days. I am the only Jewish person in the group of 10. The group loved the food, service, and atmosphere. I came back the next night with our CEO, who is not Jewish, and we had the best lamb chops and ribs. They were the best tasting I have ever had, and I have eaten at the best restaurants in NY City. I live in Brooklyn and have had all the best steaks in NY. The owner recommended the lamb and ribs, and he knows what he is talking about. My friend had a birthday dinner here. We opted for the HRW menu. For a steakhouse, I'm really surprised that they didn't offer a steak option on the menu (hence the $35 dinner instead of $45). I was actually a little disappointed about that. First course: beef empanadas. They were good, but not spectacular. Nothing really stood out to me flavor wise. Second course: Jamaican jerk white fish. It was good but a little spicy because of the seasoning. Luckily our server kept our water glasses filled.The pineapple salsa on top was good and I wish there would have been more of it on the fish. Third course: bourbon bread pudding. It was good, but the texture of it was different. I neither loved it nor hated it. They brought out a birthday cake for my friend which was sweet. Because the restaurant is Kosher, only animals deemed "Clean and Fit" are used in preparing their meat dishes. No doubt, this is why the meat is of such high quality. I had driven by the Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar many times and had always wanted to stop in and check the place out. Well, after a number of people told me how good the food was there, I decided to grab a couple of friends and give it a try. Ohhhhh, I'm so glad I did! When you walk in, you completely understand that you are about to enjoy a fine dining experience. They have really outdone themselves with the chic and trendy décor. I noticed a couple of rooms that would be perfect for large groups. If the food is as delightful to the palate as this gorgeous restaurant is to the eye, then we have ourselves a home run! A brightly decorated tree stands tall in the middle of the very large dining room. The tree, along with the lights hanging down from the ceiling, provides a wonderful outdoor feel - like dining under the stars. Our visit was in the early evening so it wasn't dark outside - but I can only imagine what this place must look like at night! Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar offers a full bar and many wonderful wine options - as you can probably guess from its name. We stuck with craft beer in celebration of Craft Beer Friday...Karbach Rodeo Clown Double IPAs were on our agenda. Well, we decided to start the night off right with a few apps. We ordered the Beer Batter Onion Tower, the Stuffed Avocado, the In-House Smoked Salmon and the Smoked Short Rib Tacos to give us a general idea of what Genesis had to offer. The Beer Batter Onion Tower was very good. Crisp and tasty onion rings lightly battered, deep-fried and piled high on the plate. A great start, but there was more to come! The Stuffed Avocado was wonderful - a perfectly ripe avocado half stuffed with Cajun Chicken, peppers, onions and drizzled with White Wine Sauce. Absolutely unbelievable, it was so good! I'm a big fan of smoked salmon, so I had to try the In-House Smoked Salmon. This delicious dish consists of a Garlic Crostini topped with smoked salmon, hard-boiled egg, red onions, and a trickle of Chef's Dressing. This dish was absolutely phenomenal - you must try it! For our final entrée, we savored the Smoked Short Rib Tacos: tasty shredded prime beef tacos served with Guacamole and a flavorful Soy Dressing. This dish was nothing short of excellent - out-of-this-world good! And those were just the apps! I couldn't wait to dig into the entrées! If they turned out to be as good as the apps, I was gonna have a hard time walking out of here! Now for the entrées! First, we sampled the The Bruce, a half-pound burger topped with crispy pastrami, a fried egg and onion strings and served with lettuce, tomato and a pickle. It also comes with a side of Onion Rings. This massive mountain of meat was incredible. Soooo good! Lately I've become a huge fan of Chilean Sea Bass, and the fish here at Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar did not disappoint! The sea bass is breaded with your choice of a Pecan, Pistachio, or Almond Crust, then grilled and served on a bed of sautéed spinach. I had the almond crust and it was amazing! The fish and the spinach meshed perfectly together. Definitely a winner! We also tried the Lamb Chops with Rosemary Reduction & Grilled Asparagus. The lamb chops were amazing - tender, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. They were drizzled with Rosemary Reduction which added just the right zing. The asparagus was divine - young, tender shoots grilled to perfection. I was very impressed with the Cowboy, a 24-oz. Prime Black Angus Bone-in Rib-eye. It was prepared medium rare, just the way I like it and the fork-smashed potatoes, dinner rolls and pesto served with it were packed with flavor. I love steaks and this one put a huge smile on my face! But the Herbed Marinated 14 oz. Veal Chop with Demi-Glace had to be my favorite dish of the night. The meat was so tender it just fell off the bone, the fork-smashed potatoes were the perfect accompaniment and the demi-glace was indescribably flavorful. There's no doubt, this is a dish that will keep me coming back again and again! Well, what can I say? We really enjoyed ourselves here at Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar. This is the perfect place to take your better half for a date night, meet up with friends for cocktails or enjoy an evening with a large group for a holiday party or private event. I made a reservation on May 11th for a Birthday Dinner for 25 people. I stopped in to see the location and make sure they could accommodate mine and my guest needs. The restaurant was smaller than it looks in the pictures they have posted. On the day of my event I get 3 phone calls throughout the day to confirm because they were have multiple parties at the same time. They asked if it was a birthday dinner so they could alert the staff. I arrive at the location at the time of my event with my entire party and they tell me I am not allowed to bring my cake in. It was really upsetting as I had multiple conversations with them about it being for a birthday party and was never told that I couldn't bring in outside food. They have a small sign posted but not super visible at all. I ended up leaving going to a different restaurant that could accommodate my needs. So learn from me, if you are having a birthday party there don't bring a cake. read more

What a dull and boring room retro to european feel, whilst the main room was hip, modern and lively. They don't ask you if you want bread, but were told you have to ask. What the ....! How do we know to even ask. I asked for my dish medium rare, but was brought a medium well. The waiter takes it away then brings it back and says its medium rare. After I had to explain several points why this dish was not medium rare he agreed to take it away a second time and refire a new one. Really!! Dessert I asked for a chocolate lava cake and was brought a chocolate truffle, which is totally different, because they said they were out of the lava. Again, what the....we were the earliest crowd and how could they be out, unless they didnt even prepare. I took a few bites, definitely, not the same and politely told them bring our bill and we're ready to leave. In summary, what I recognized about this place is from my experience is they seem to take short cuts about volunteering or providing additional information or food accoutrements.
