First off I have to prompt this review by saying that this isn't the type of restaurant that I frequent often. My husband signed up to their rewards program and he got a free birthday bowl. I hadn't been to Genghis in about 7 years so I was willing to go since it was going to be half off. Off the bat I saw they were serving draft Dos XX's for 2 bucks. Not a bad start. When we went to fill up our bowls with ingredients I surveyed the area hoping that the meat that was sitting in the "buffet" type area was fresh and handled properly. With no way of knowing I just went for it. The chicken kinda looked unappetizing as most raw chicken sitting in its own liquid does so I passed on that. I did the thinly sliced beef. On to the veggies. They look mostly fresh, some of the containers could have used a little sprucing up. I finished off with picking my sauce and then gave it to the cooks to do their thing. I don't think this is a great place for people with any type of allergies because I'm sure everything touches everything at some point especially when it goes on the giant cooking area. Just a thought. So food tasted... ok. I definitely preferred the udon noodles to the rice. Even though my husband and I used different sauces and spices to me they kinda tasted the same. Honestly I don't have any plans to come back to this place. I have way too many local asian hot spots where I can get some fresh authentic, more interesting stir fry. Also whipping up some beef with noodles and veggies in my own kitchen is an easy option as well. read more

I have Celiac Disease and am a vegetarian, and most of my friend's aren't. Generally this place works when we're looking to grab something easy for dinner, because you can customize exactly what goes in your food. They also have all of the sauces labeled gluten free etc. They usually give you a specific card to write your name on if you're vegetarian/have allergies, and they gave me my little blue card and I also mentioned to the grill chef that I had celiac disease and needed the grill to be cleaned. The next day after eating here I wasn't feeling so good but I chalked it up a stomach bug that was making it's way around work. When I ate my lunch which was GG leftovers, I found some stray noodles in it! :( Noodles, if you didn't know, aren't gluten free, which means they neglected to clean the grill between the bowl before mine and I ended up sick because of it. My other experiences here prior were good, but lately it hasn't been great. Hope they get it fixed. read more

The entrees were pretty good. However, having only one available glass of one of only four types of wine offered seems like bad inventory management. Ordering an appetizer and having the wait person ask if someone brought it to us well after the four entrees were delivered was bad. Seems the wait person forgot what her job is. We were a party of four. We went through the line sequentially; I was second in line, and I was given my entree first. The entree for the person first in line in our group was delivered over 10 minutes after mine. It was 5:30 on a Monday night. The restaurant was not at all busy. Food was good and my Server Lillian was great! I rated the experience only a 3 star because the buffet was almost out of some meats and nobody was restocking. I am also a little disappointed that you all have done away with the cards at the table that allow the customer to fill out what they want prior to going through the line. Although the service can be kinda lacking, the whole concept behind this is pretty unique. You pick your bowl size, then you're told to get in line to fill up your bowl w/ as many ingredients as you want (note: you can only go forward in line, don't go backwards or else you'll get charged!), & you pick whatever starch (rice, noodles, pasta, etc.) you want.. then, they make it for you. Easy peasy, lemon squeez-y. I particularly am a big fan of the udon noodles w/ veggies & chicken. But, the possibilities are endless -- the choice is entirely up to you! This is another one of those times when I am confused by the overall rating of a restaurant... this place for sure deserves more then a 3 star rating. The ONLY reason why I am not giving it a 5 star rating is because our server sucked- I am not sure why this place even has servers??? Put in a self serve soda machine and have people pay for there bowl upon entering and bam servers be gone. so how it works- you have a choice of 3 bowl sizes- small, regular or large- today I went with the small but feel that I could of even gone with a regular & I would of ate it all.... You take your bowl up to the serving area and you start off choosing your meat and putting it into your bowl- today I went with cajun chicken, there is a seasonings station where you can add different seasonings to your meat (the bland comment confuses me because you can add as much seasoning as you want to) and then you move onto the veggies and add those in- they had green chilies, mushrooms, onions, broccoli, sprouts, jalapheno's just to name a few (load your bowl- as long as it fits it can be stacked high and your good to go) The last thing you add into your bowl is you select your sauce- there are little separate containers to put your sauce in and sample spoons if you want to try them out first.... there are labels stating what the sauces are. They grill up your food and bring it to your table, you get to choose from several rice and noodle options My food came out hot & very tasty I ate every last bite in my bowl and was very happy with my choices, I went with more of a hot & spicy dish and my friend went more of a blander (by choice), fresh veggies style dish and hers was very good as well..... Our sever short changed me I didnt say anything as it was loose change and I deducted it from her tip so It worked out been her loss not mine, I was happy with our lunch choice and would return hopefully we get a different server next time.... read more

Second impressions were slightly better than the first. Its make your own stir fry with appetizer and desserts. The stir fry you buy by the bowl small medium large and there is a buffet style bar for proteins spices toppings and sauces. Staff both times were very quick to explain, forgetful and not wanting to tend customers. The meat is first and just looks very unappetizing as it is out under lamps and people tend to huddle near it spices then veg and sauce is last and though your not charged by weight your given what looks like a small silver dog bowl to stuff ur raw meat and veg into. Once all is choosen by you there is options for rice noodles ect...and your bowl is left then cooked and brought to you. I opted for garlic lime fish 2 peices out of many were looking ok to eat i added more garlic seasoning mixes and pepper veg was mostly frozen and so it was thawed and very rubbery i opted for the freshest veg which was green onion jalapeno and extra cilantro my sauce was chili oil. Being that the bowl is small you cant mix anything and they dont either so the fish and veg were mostly bland, since the spices were not mixed before frying they were burnt to some parts of the fish so even after cooking it was mostly bland and not spicy at all. I opted for fried rice and got cold white rice with soy sauce. Being that there was fish garlic and chili oil i expected any of those flavors it was just so bland i added siracha and finally had a flavor and spice. Dessert i got the three stack and that was the best part of the meal. It was a friday around 7 and pretty empty other places packed i suggest asking to see the buffet and checking the meat and veg quality if you do decide to eat here. read more

First of all, I hate buffets. They are festering with germs. It's probably in my head, but the fact that 200 people may have leaned under the glass spit-shield that is suppose to protect the food (and my health) from the flu really gets to me. Somehow, I've been able to get over that fear at Genghis Grill. I like being able to choose the ingredients that go into my food and control how much of each item I am consuming. I don't like that I have to have a degree in engineering to stop my spinach from flying all over the buffet line as it is piled on top of my protein. Wouldn't it be easier to put the spinach in first? Apparently that's not allowed here. I'm sure I will be back to a Genghis Grill - they have food choices that seem to satisfy everyone, but there is something that turns me off about this location. read more

Always fun to play with your food! Ha ha...kidding. But seriously, see how packed you can get your bowl without it falling out. It's pretty much a make your own hibachi, which is awesome and gives you control of everything you want in your bowl. Protein options have changed since we've been there last and there were no shrimp on the bar, but the rest was the same, chicken, beef, steak, scallops, etc.. Veggies, sauces and seasonings are plentiful. Recipe cards help if you don't want to make your own but have something in mind. Service is always good here. Chefs are friendly. read more

Staff makes you not want to be here and the waitress before my fork was at my mouth drops a wadded up receipt in my bowl of food and says "I see your done" and took my food away when I wasn't done at all! So we have been here a few times now and this last time really put the icing on the cake. My food came out great however my husband had problems with his food. My husband made the mistake after making his bowl, of putting the sauce directly on his food instead of putting it in a little cup. The girl by the grill taking the food said it would be a little watered down to preserve what he created. However when the food came, it was bland and almost gross. After talking to management he was able to remake his bowl but that meant staying an extra 20min for his food. The other downfall was the margarita I ordered came with old slimy fruit that ruined the drink for me. Our server was great and the manager was fabulous. Every time we have gone to Genghis grill we have had a wonderful time. My family and I try to go to Genghis grill every sunday evening. The past two times we have visited this location we have had a wonderful experience with the help of our server James. This last time we were visiting James had devilered us with excellent and speedy service. With only being our server twice James remembered each of our names without being told. James made sure that our drinks were full and our tummy's were happy. Found rocks in my food all!! All the manger told me was she can only give me 50% off. I ask her if I can leave a complaint, she tell me no we a franchise. Horrible manager!! It's never a good sign when you walk into a restaurant, the place is deserted, and there are 4-5 servers clustered around the hostess' counter. It's also never a good sign when the server has to explain to you how to order. Or when the restaurant menu is 60% dedicated to alcohol. This is a restaurant that can't make up its mind if it is restaurant, Mongolian grill, or bar. There are flat screen TVs tuned to sports channels plastered to the walls. The ordering process is ridiculously complicated and invites many opportunities for screw-ups; which they did with my order. In "short" you fill out a card with your name, server's name, bowl size, and choice of starch. You then walk across the restaurant, fill a tiny 1.5 cup bowl (for which they charge $8.99) with raw ingredients, hand it to the cook, and then your server delivers the cooked food and whatever drinks you've ordered back to your table, in a cheap, oversized melamine bowl that looks like it's going to tip over in your lap. By design, but honestly, a scraped up plastic bowl and a couple cups of food for $9? Server was nice, offered to get me the starch I'd wanted as a side - but not for free. The bill for what was not too tasty Asian food at best was a whopping $30 with a couple beverages AND tip, no alcohol ordered. This place seems to be banking on the Albuquerque novelty of a circular grill and/or alcohol sales, because you get horrible value for money, and I don't see why I need to leave a 15% tip when I'm doing half of the work for my meal. I might as well go to one of the many good Asian buffets in town, have a wider selection, AND the option of grilled food if I want it. I've had worse restaurant experiences, but this place is expensive, not particularly tasty, and a poorly executed, confusing eating experience. We go to Genghis Grill frequently and always like the food. We went August 18th at around 8pm. My boyfriend took a bite when he was about 1/3 done with his bowl and made a sound like he had bitten into something hard. He spit out his food and found pebbles in the bite he had taken. We asked to speak to a manager to discuss the situation. Rainey came to our table and said I'm the manager. My boyfriend told her that he found pebbles in his food and showed them to her. She immediately responded "since you already started eating your food I can give you 50% off your bowl." My boyfriend said he didn't care about his money back, he found rocks in his food and wanted it to be right because he might have chipped a tooth. He asked to leave a comment and she responded "well, I'm the manager." He asked to leave a written comment and she told us there was no such thing and that she would write a report. She never once apologized and and acted so disrespectfully towards us. Unless Genghis Grill comes under new management we will not be back. read more

I love this place! I did have a concern about having to choose the food combinations, spices and sauce to be cooked. I was hoping I would choose something that would not taste terrible together. The Server was wonderful giving us a full explanation of what to do and provided several combinations recommended by the restaurant. I felt confident after listening to our Server in choosing my own personal food combination. My food was delicious and I was very satisfied. The service was excellent and fast. The atmosphere was what you would expect on a Friday night busy but not too loud. We will be coming back. read more

I like eating and this is one of my favorite restaurants. You are given a bowl when you sit down and then then get to fill said bowl with whatever you want before it is cooked. You start with the meats (remember they shrink when cooked) then move to veggies and any sauces you would like added. Once you're finished packing your bowl you hand it off to one of the cooks who asks what starch you would like and they put everything on the wok and about 15 minutes later you've got your bowl. They do have cards with some recommend recipes however I've never had a problem with any of my wild creations. Atmosphere is casual no need to dress up here. read more
