It makes me so sad to say that I will not be returning. The past few times I have been here have been for the most part horrible. The most recent time it took about 10 minutes for someone to seat us even though there was only about three tables of people dining when we walked in, and no one else waiting to be sat. We then waited another 15 minutes to be greeted and asked wait we wanted to drink to then be told they currently were out of ice. While waiting for our bowls to be made it seemed like every staff member was stressed out about something while who I assume to be a manager was standing around not doing anything. He then grab a Togo order and left. Food wasn't up to the standards it normally is which is the only reason we go despite everything else that goes into a dining experience always being disappointing. The thing that got to me the most was that we were still charged for beverages even though I had sent mine back for a water due to them having no ice????? I'm sad that this place now sucks because there is no restaurant in murfreesboro like this. read more

I've been to this location many times, but this visit was terrible. From the moment you step in the front door the whole restaurant smells like dirty mop water. Server was good, but someone needs to teach them how to make mixed drinks. I sat at the bar and it literally took them a good 10 mins to figure out how to make a mixed drink. It also took a good 20 mins for me to get my food once they put it on the grill. This used to be my favorite restaurant in town, but the lack of proper management and/or ownership have ran it into the ground. It's disgusting. The floor is sticky, trash everywhere, outdoor fans are falling apart, the bar smells of mold, the bathrooms don't appear or smell like they've been cleaned properly since it was opened, the torn seats are duck taped together, and the tables are as nasty as the floor. All of this makes you wonder what the condition the kitchen and storage for the food they serve is in. Also, the last time I went there, it took them over 3 weeks to process my debit card. I hope a competitor for this style of restraint comes in so that I can give them my business. Clean up your act. So 10 days ago I wrote this review and then was replied to by a Customer Service Rep asking them to contact them in regards to the experience. I hate to rain on the parade of 4 and 5 stars, but this place doesn't deliver when compared to its Cool Springs sibling. I like Ghengis Grill, their concept, and what they have to offer in general. I'd love to give it more stars, but I can't based on my experiences here. I'm not going to bore you with how this place works. You either know that already, or can read it in one of the other reviews. My gripes: Both times I was here, all of the meats were mostly frozen. Like, had to chip off pieces of steak cubes, frozen. Frost and ice in the shrimps, frozen. Not a good start. All of the sauces were out in the open with ladles sitting in them allowing for cross-contamination. Cool Springs is better about this, as they have the sauces in pump dispensers. My biggest complaint is the cooking time. Both times we dropped off our bowl and picked our starch. We were given a number and then proceeded to wait forever for our food. Maybe I'm spoiled in Cool Springs, but there, you give them your ingredients and either wait there at the grill or take a number and sit down. The cooks there have it down cold and turn out a lot of food quickly while making sure everything is cooked properly. In this Boro location, your bowl sits in a line 20+ deep on the counter while 4 grill cooks take 8 years and a day to do anything. Both times we waited 25-30 minutes to get our food. Last gripe is the service. Both times our servers were horrible. Empty glasses with no refills even though they passed our table multiple times. We recently trekked out to Genghis Grill for a group lunch, and though the food was mostly good I did not have a good experience. I filled my bowl moderately with tofu (which was served in large squares) and veggies, and loved making a special mix using the sauces. When I handed my bowl over to the cook I ask that the tofu be chopped up as it was cooking. Tofu eaters will know that large blocks of tofu stay mushy in the middle, where as smaller chunks cook up firmer. I watch the serve write my request on the slip that goes with the food to the grill. Our food was out to our tables fairly quickly and arrived still hot from the grill, however my tofu was still in chunks and squishy in the middle. No big deal. I stopped a waitress to politely and apologetically let her know that my request was not met and explain why I had made the request. She took the bowl and a few seconds later returned it. The tofu had been chopped up, however it was very obvious that it had not hit the grill again. Seriously? If all I had wanted was it chopped I would have done that at the table, not sent it back. I specifically asked for it to be chopped while cooking. Now I understand that people who do not eat tofu may not realize the different this makes, however viewed as a just a customer request it was a pretty simple request. I decide to just eat it the food as was and stay silent. That's when I notice that the amount of rice that was added was pretty small, Since the starch is added after the foods cooked and placed at the bottom you don't really see it until you dig in. So since I went light on the fillings my bowl was a pretty small portion. No big deal usually, but for $12 a meal it was pretty unfulfilling. Now others at the table raved about their dishes, so it was just myself that had an underwhelming experience. I wouldn't be opposed to giving the place another try, but I definitely will not be ordering tofu again. For that I'll go to one of my mom and pop places that know how to do tofu up right. Genghis Grill definitely had enough veggies on the prep line that I'm sure I could make a good meal with out the tofu, now that I know you'll have to sufficiently stack the bowl. read more

Last night was my first bad experience here in over a year, so I consider 3 stars to be a fair compromise. Had last night been my first experience, my rating would be a 1 and we would never be back. Had last night never happened, it would be closer to a 5. We were meeting another couple for dinner on a Monday evening. As we walked in, my fiance said he wondered if our friends were already here. It was easy to see, as the restaurant was virtually empty, that we arrived first. We were promptly seated, given menus, shown how to work the new table-side ordering system "Where you can order everything but your bowl!" and gave our drink orders. A water and a Sprite. Nothing earth shattering. Our friends arrived probably 5 minutes after us, during which time we had not received our drinks. During that time I also used the table computer to order edamame for an appetizer. We waited. And we waited. 10 minutes went by and my fiance and I didn't have our drinks, and no one had even acknowledged that our friends had also been seated. Our friend finally got up and approached the first server he could find to let her know we had been waiting awhile. She was kind enough to take their drink orders as our server came up behind her with our waters and sodas. After 20 minutes (from the time we entered the restaurant) we got our bowls and went through the line. The food, as always, was delicious and came out piping hot and fresh from the grill just a short time after we gave our bowls over to the kitchen. The edamame I ordered? Never came. Just before we got our checks our server came over saying that the printer was "messed up" and that's what happened with the appetizer. Unfortunately, I do not believe him as he was very inattentive all night and my gut tells me he missed the order entirely. We never got an apology about that, either. Simply a "Did you still want that?" Also a strike against the fancy new table side computer system. We were given our checks, and then proceeded to sit with our credit cards out for so long our friends started digging through their purse/wallet, respectively, looking to come up with enough cash to be able to just walk out. I was going to swipe our credit card through the table computer (a perk of the fancy technology!), but our bill was wrong on it, so I couldn't. Eventually our server came around and picked up the tickets and took his sweet time returning them. You know what rubs me the wrong way with some waitstaff? Excuses. Especially excuses not accompanied by a halfway sincere apology. I was a waitress for 4 years. I know things happen. But I also know that body language and tone make up 90% of communication. Offer an apology and move on. Our server, however, didn't apologize one single time during our entire experience, instead saying that he just got handed a party of 10 and a party of 6 back to back. Excuses. I also feel like Amanda W (review from 6/14, 3 days before mine) and I very possibly could have had the same server. The demeanor she describes sounds very familiar. Frankly, we will be back. The food is still great and I'm pretty picky so I love the opportunity to build my own bowl! Next time, however, we will be vocal about our issues in hopes of a manger addressing it. Hopefully by then the printer is fixed ;) read more

First time ever in there today, cross contamination is all that comes to mind in this place. The food was ok but way over priced and the whole setup is just to confusing for newbies. The staff was nice but need to be more educated on showing customers how to enjoy the dinning experience. The biggest issue I had was touching all the serve ware becasue there was raw chicken and pork juice on everything and no way to clean it or your hands. Also if you go out to eat and are not trained in knowing food profiles stay away because your bound to cook up a horrible and expensive mess and can only blame yourself if you choose not to use the small menu choices they do have. Oh how I loved the all you can eat bowls that you used to offer... but then you stopped. To quote William Shatner... "KHAN!!!" Sure wish you'd bring those back. Very disappointing meal. You generally can't mess up chicken but every piece I tried to eat, from the lettuce wraps to the bowls, we could not chew the chicken. After the third try, I had to stop. The meat was either very poor quality or it was not cooked properly. Bad from start to finish. We told our server, who said "you should have said something earlier we could have fixed it". Perhaps earlier would have been when our water and tea should have been refilled. No problem. I paid for our meals. I won't go back. $30 is a little much for chicken I can't eat. read more

I like the concept of a Mongolian Grill, being able to pick exactly what goes into your dish, including sauces and spices. What freaks me out though is all that meat just sitting out there...others digging their way through it, along with me (i know where my hands have been, but what about the dude in front of me?) Also the sauces just sit out as well (anything could fall in there and I would never know) So it's a gamble when you go to a place like this, luckily all has been well, so far. :) read more

I walked in starving so I ordered a large bowl and a beer. I was also eyeing the dessert I was so hungry. I was surprised how small the "large" bowl was they give you to fill with food. After I got my bowl, I ate the meat and veggies off the top of that mush they called fried rice. Then I asked for my check and kindly declined the to go box. We decide to eat at Genghis Grill while we are in the Avenue doing some Saturday shopping. Within 3 seconds of walking in, I knew that I couldn't eat there. My feet were sticking to the floor with every step. The hostess took us to a table that had food droppings, napkins and other trash underneath it. The chairs, booth and table had been halfway wiped down with food remnants still present. I stayed longer than 3 minutes because my husband had picked the place and it didn't seem to bother him as much as it did me. By the time I made it to the area where you pick your meat, vegetables, sauce, etc., I was taken back by the overwhelming smell of restroom, the water on the floor and food splatter everywhere. Isn't the correct thing to do to clean around all the bins every time you refill them? It was so disgusting that I had to apologize to the hubby and ask to leave. I'm not a germaphobe, but seriously, there are some basic things that a restaurant should uphold and cleanliness is at the top of my list. They were almost out of tofu when we got to the line. The service staff was friendly and attentive but unorganized. We ordered regular bowls, and it took 15+ minutes to get our food. I chose brown rice and noodle, and I believe they measure out a tablespoon of rice and a pinch of noodle. My bowl was half full. Kinda disappointed. read more

I was nervous to try this place just because it was different. I had no idea what to expect. Since it was my first time the hostess guided us step by step. They give you the option of small, medium or large, you then fill your plate with everything you want in it. They have a bar of raw meats, fish, etc. Then you choose your veggies, sauces, and your side. You can put anything you want in the bowl and you can squish it down to get as much in as possible. Depending on the size of your bowl, you have 1-3 options for your sides. I tried a raspberry lemonade type drink with basil in it and it wasn't my favorite. Went in just like every other Friday yesterday! Good atmosphere, fun environment! The concept is truly different and love different experiences! The girl, I believe her name was Emily? Was AMAZING! She was so cute, so fun, and so friendly! I watched her make my bowls and put love and effort into them, and it definitely tasted like it!!!!! Amy our server was wonderful and made us feel at home! I give it 4 stars only 'cause I watched the grill cook (Emily) be talked to like crap from the other cook and it was unprofessional and made the overall environment go downhill. Every-time I go into the Genghis Murfreesboro, I see this girl work her butt off, she has ensured good customer service, kind words, and made my overall experience better no matter where in the store she is! I've seen her EVERYWHERE doing EVERYTHING! This young lady deserves the recognition and definitely is an asset to the restaurant. Nice job, young lady!!! read more

Of this type of cooking I dont think it gets a whole lot better. It's hard to beat there selection of meats and veggies and the service is kind of obsolete except for the cooks and the people who refill your drinks. Mongolian is not really a type of food but it is good. You get to pick out all your meats and veggies and then pick a type off sauce to toss it in. then you pick a type of noodles, rice or tortillas to put them over. It is very good if your looking for something different and new and don't want to pay to much. great place for a casual first date. read more

The food is always good here but today's visit our waitress looked at us several times in a 10 min time period after we were seated yet refused to come take our drink order or bring us our bowls. Another waiter asked us if we had been waited on an after he spoke to our original waitress he became our server. She looked like it was a bother for anyone that she had an her tone with the table next to us wasn't pleasant. So glad we got this young man. We were about to walk out when he talked to us. Shame that she is in this business cause her attitude isn't what it should be being a waitress. Everytime she's walked past us she's given us dirty ass looks. I was highly dissatisfied with my visit to the Murfreesboro location. In the past I have really enjoyed my meals at Genghis. The food has a wonderful taste. When greeted I told the hostess there were two of us, to which she turned to another girl and said help them. Then she asked how many and seated us. The smell in the restaurant was nasty. We went to fill our bowls only to find trays that had not been cleaned. As I was sitting waiting for my meal I watched one of the hostesses after cleaning tables and touching all the counter spaces with her hands cut the lemons and limes. Her hands were all over them and right out on the to-go counter where other people were touching and picking up orders. Another waitress came and took the knife demonstrating how to cut them and she had not washed her hands either. I am truly disappointed. We also could not find the health score visible. Today we waited five minutes for anyone to approach our table for drink orders. The hostess came over and informed us our server is really busy and we would have to wait, but she'd be happy to get us drinks. My mom, in a concerned but very kind tone, informed her that we were kind of in a hurry and the hostess said "well, how much time DO you have?" (As if going to a self-service restaurant should require an extended time commitment...) I just asked if we could get two drinks and two regular bowls so we could get started. She acted like this was an ordeal, but she did it. I know a few people had to wait at the hostess stand as they arrived while she was helping us, but she shouldn't have sat us in a section where the server had just started his break. ( I saw two other servers working who seemed like they had time to help us, and one of these guys, who was very nice, eventually did help us.) I know the server who was originally supposed to serve us had gone on break because the computer at the table said as much when the new server was trying to input our orders. The computer automatically adds 20% tip unless you change it. I usually tip anywhere between 20 and 30% depending on service, but I thought 20% was a bit presumptuous considering it's not a full-service restaurant. You fix your own food and take care of your own bill... Also, the computer weirdly asks you to rate your experience while you're there before your server brings you your receipt. I didn't feel comfortable doing this since the guy who eventually did help us was okay, and I figured it would reflect poorly on him and not the incompetent hostess. Fortunately I don't like the food very much, so I won't really miss not going back. I hope today was just an anomaly. They weren't short staffed. Employees were everywhere. Maybe not, but this place is still fun a d can produce some good food and drinks. If you're new to Mogolian BBQ style of eating its like this. You get a bowl. You fill it up with stuff. You pick out some spices and sauces. They give that bowl to some master technicians with big stick. They whack it, spin it, grill it, and match it with a starch then you eat it. Rinse and repeat! Gengis is great. You pick your mix of meat, seafood, or veggies and they cook it in front of you if you wish. Its fun to pick your sauces out and taste and mix them. Theyre sweet tea is great, large clear glasses, and the service is great, so your glass wont run empty. Its not a cheap meal, but not expensive. If you dont like the meal you can only blame yourself- you hand picked everything and seasoned it as well. It's been awhile since we visited- at least until yesterday. Service was very SLOW as she kept disappearing for long periods at a time. Food was great except I ordered my with cabbage. I understand cabbage has a lot of moisture but seriously! When I started eating my bowl was over half full with liquid. Couldn't get our servers attention so had to pour the excess liquid in the little metal cups used for the extra toppings (crushed red pepper, sesame seeds, etc). This has always been a favorite weekend place of ours but not sure it's worth it anymore, especially for lunch. I have been there many times and the last three times have been the worst. Right now I have been throwing up for the past 5 hours from them cooking their food improperly. One side was completely burnt while the other wasn't cooked sufficiently. I also ordered a strawberry lemonade and was brought sweet tea. When I took it up to the bar to be switched out the girl at the bar asked if my tea was "nasty?" Ummm... Nasty?? No... Just completely wrong. The previous time we came in and sat at the bar and the bartender didn't speak to us. When I finally got his attention he told me to hold on because he was downloading the flashlight app on his phone. We walked out. The time before that we sat at the bar for 15 min. and no one greeted us or took a drink/food order. We walked out. As I lay here at 4:21am cursing this place once again... WE WILL NEVER GO BACK...
