The location is in a cute boutique mall (antique shops and aikido), with a good amount of dedicated parking. Seating inside is comfortable, decorated in neutral tones, with high ceilings crossed by wood beams. While Japanese food isn't what I would normally think of for breakfast, after trying Genki Kitchen, my whole perspective has changed! Take the thoughtfulness and precision of good Japanese/Hawaiian food and mash it up with fried chicken and eggs benedict, and you've got some out-of-this-world flavors (and a very full and happy stomach). I ordered the Genki Benedict, and the balance of milk (!) bread to egg to spam was spot on. Just the right amount of crunch and saltiness. Also the poach was really perfect. Soft and creamy but not running all over the moment you cut into it. To top it off the yuzu hollandaise (served on the side by default) was sweet, fruity, and creamy. Best hollandaise I've had, hands down! Service was very friendly and informative. Will definitely be back and try their lunch menu as well. The Genki poutine (fries with Japanese curry and an egg) sounds amazing!
Genki is a solid breakfast brunch spot my wife had on her list of places to try. I absolutely love the high ceilings in the space which makes the smaller restaurants feel enormous and spacious. Both times we've been here we were immediately greeted by the host, a younger boy, which added to the warmth of what is most likely a family-run restaurant. That warmth extends to the food offerings which consist of Japanese-Hawaiian-American fusion and comfort food. Their loco moco with a tornado egg is a stunning and delicious dish and I love that it comes with 2 styles of gravy! The yuzu hollondaise has the perfect amount of tang to help cut the richness of the spam and milk bread in the benedict. I feel as though the chicken katsu and waffle was missing an element to really make it perfect. I would have added the katsu sauce or pickled ginger to really elevate it. The okonomiyaki was excellent and I loved the amount of vegetables in it. Overall, I really like Genki for the speed of service, friendliness, and inventive food combinations.
Fantastic quality, creative menu options. Their katsu and bread options have no business being this good. And their potatoes. It's like the universal perfect ideal you have in mind when you want crispy in the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. My wife had the Benedict with the yuzu Hollandaise and I had the chicken and waffles. The spam on her Benedict was surprisingly tangy (in a good way). The serving size on my chicken and waffles was overly generous . . . to the point of being over the top (I couldn't cut into it without spilling a lot onto the table). The coffee was fresh brewed but a little mild and lukewarm to my taste. The interior was a bit sparsely decorated, though the belt-driven ceiling fan system was cool (no pun intended). Minor gripes aside, the quality of the preparations and the friendliness of the staff will bring us back here in the future.
Just when I think I've had it all, we find a new spot that becomes another favorite! Genki has a fantastic brunch that is worth celebrating! We came in about 10 midweek and it was empty, so we got lots of time to chat with the folks working which was honestly a delight. They were all so friendly and wonderful. The vibes are super comfortable and very perfect for the food served. I had the Okonomiyaki which was a pillowy, savory dream! My husband had the Benedict which was also wonderful, one of the best hollandaise I have ever had! The potatoes were also super yummy. We split some delicious tempura as well! This wonderful little shop is truly a gem!
We had SUCH a good experience at Genki Kitchen. It's one of those places where you can immediately tell there's a lot of love behind what they're doing, and knowing it's family-owned made it even better. We definitely ordered enough to get a real feel for the menu and honestly, everything was so good. The Loco Moco was one of my favorites because we tried it with both the brown AND white gravy. The brown gravy was rich, savory and super comforting, but the white gravy surprised me the most because it almost tasted like a creamy clam chowder. I was not expecting that at all, but it worked SO well with the dish. The Katsu Chicken & Waffles was another standout. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and still juicy, and the waffle was fluffy with just enough sweetness. We found out their son had made the waffle batter fresh that morning, along with the whipped cream, and I swear details like that make you appreciate the food even more. The French Toast was beautiful and tasted just as good as it looked. Soft, rich, slightly sweet, with fresh fruit and that homemade whipped cream on top. Definitely one of those dishes everyone at the table keeps taking bites from. We also tried the Beef Udon, which was exactly what I wanted after all the sweet brunch flavors. Tender beef, chewy noodles and a warm, savory broth that was so comforting. And the Japanese Michelada was such a fun surprise. Savory, refreshing, a little spicy and just different enough from a traditional michelada to make it memorable. One of the things I really loved about Genki beyond the food is how intentional they are about supporting other local Sacramento businesses and specialty producers. We're in the Farm-to-Fork Capital, so I LOVE seeing a local family-owned restaurant put that into practice and keep that support within the community. Everything from the flavors to the presentation felt thoughtful and high quality. Truly a 10/10 experience for us. And now I already want to go back because there are way too many things on the menu we didn't get to try.
Came here on a whim and so glad we did! Their menu is so fun and the service is great. The person who took our order (I think she was the owner) took the time to answer my questions and was very friendly. The food was 100%. Really wish I had a larger stomach to be able to finish my order and also try their other items! Can't wait to go there again!
Genki has a lot of potential to do well, although there is still some room for improvement. I really like their Hawaiian-Japanese fusion brunch concept and the menu is straight forward and simple. The Genki Benedict was served without the yuzu hollandaise sauce, which I didn't realize until after the fact. That was partly my fault for not bringing it up, so I didn't get the full experience of the dish. I'm sure it would've tasted even better with the sauce. The potatoes were also a bit cold. The butter, however, was nice and creamy. The Ika Geso was good, lightly battered and fried just the way I prefer and the sauce paired well with it. The Country Fried Katsu was also good, but again, the potatoes were cold. The Curry Chicken Katsu Don was probably the best dish. Overall, the prices are reasonable, the place is clean, and the staff was welcoming. I'd definitely give Genki another try, especially since the concept has a lot of potential.
Finally stopped by for a brunch date and my oh my it has become my fav stop ! It was busy even in a Wednesday but we waited not too long to be seated ! Customer service was warm and welcoming ! Everything we order was delicious ! The kaarage chicken was fried perfectly crispy yet juicy! Presentation of both the loco moco and chicken katsu wasnt just beautifully yummy but pack a good wow to my palate ! I'm usually not a gravy /sauce person but Genki made it perfectly balanced I might had to lick the plate Prices were affordable and the portion was generous. See you guys soon
Genki Kitchen is a unique brunch spot that serves up Japanese inspired brunch and lunch items. It's in a nice and cozy space that can get quite busy. I found the service to be excellent and friendly. The servers were quick as well. On my visit to Genki I had the opportunity to try the loco moco, udon, and tempura. The loco moco was good and came with a good amount of food. It was also presented nicely. They do the thing where it comes with the knife stabbed into the top of the food. There's also a pretty flower on the top that I think is just there for decoration. It's not necessary, but makes for a pretty photo. The best thing about the loco moco was the hamburger on the top. I found it to be of good quality and size - it's not one of those skinny fast food patties. The only thing I wasn't a fan of with the dish was the sauces, which I found to be a bit heavy handed and rich. Eventually all the rice was soggy. As for the udon, I personally found the broth to be much too sweet for my liking. It was an enormous bowl, but I couldn't get over the sweetness. My kid, who we gave some to really enjoyed it so I guess it's just a matter of taste. As for the tempura, I thought it was fine and did the job, but it didn't blow my mind. Genki Kitchen definitely has some unique and playful items. They are also only open for breakfast and lunch.

Came on a Saturday for brunch. They weren't busy so we were seated after just a few minutes. I'm not sure why there are so many amazing reviews or maybe I just came on an off day but I thought the food was just okay and nothing special. Could use a little more flavor imo. I will also add that I asked for my eggs over easy but they came out as well done sunny side. Eck. Our food also took a looooong time to come out. They weren't even busy and I observed most of the other tables were also waiting a long time for their food. Again, not sure if I came on a bad day, but food took over 50min to come out. That is way too long. I think over time I may decide to try it again, but I do recommend not coming while already starved, especially not with hungry kids.
My husband and I stopped by for brunch and ordered the shrimp tempura ($14), loco moco ($23) and country fried katsu ($25). As soon as the shrimp tempura came out, it looked suspiciously like the frozen ones you buy from Costco. They weren't good and our server confirmed this was pre-packaged. We asked our server to please take it away. I ordered my loco moco with gravy on the side which they accommodated very graciously. The presentation was very beautiful and the hamburger steak was not dry with decent flavor. I found the tornado egg to be a little over done and the rice extremely dense. I'm assuming this tastes better when absolutely drowned in gravy. The white and regular gravy was very tasty but what gravy isn't? The katsu was perfectly breaded and fried. Probably best tasting out of what we ordered but the dish is extremely rich and heavy with gravy and overly buttered potatoes. This is a very Americanized take on Japanese cuisine - portions are generous and they don't hold back on the gravy and butter. Service was very friendly. Our server quietly removed the charge for the shrimp tempura which was much appreciated but I still feel charging $14 for frozen shrimp tempura is wack. I don't think the quality fits the high price point here and I won't be back.
The food is delicious and the environment aesthetics lovely with a delicate wood design for the ceiling. The okonomiyaki is a delicious brunch entree. The ginger topping perfected the dish too. I can't wait to have this again with some other delights too!

A very cute spot! Hidden if you don't know what you're looking for. We were greeted by the whole family for Sunday brunch. My bf said it felt like he was invited into someone's home and they fed him homemade cooking. I had to try the loco moco and they do not play with the portion. There was so much brown and white gravy, I don't know which one I liked more. Seasoning was perfect and tasted so fresh. I would get this again but would like to try other menu items as well. My bf ordered the teriyaki steak skillet. This was great as well. Steak was cooked perfectly and I'm usually not a teriyaki type of person but it pairs well with the steak. And the tea helped everything settle in my stomach as well. So good! We will be back soon! So glad we gave this place a chance. :) read more

We arrived early on a Saturday. Owners Dan and Nancy greeted us warmly for their soft opening weekend. We ordered the chicken coconut cream waffles and the okonomiyaki. - the coconut cream waffles were really great. The coconut cream that we got on the side was especially delicious with the chicken and waffles. I would say the chicken could be slightly juicier, but other than that this dish was hit with both of us. - the okonomiyaki had a nice flavor with the traditional sauce and egg pancake. The bacon and fried egg on top was a nice spin on the traditional dish. I felt the cake would be better with a less "formed" shape and some noodles (the W ay I've had it in the past. Overall we really liked what we tried. A big "thank you" for the complementary tea and white peach mimosa! After seeing Genki featured on several Instagram accounts, my curiousity was piqued. My sister and I came for brunch around 10 am on a Saturday. The place was small but we easily got a table. At first, we could not decide what to get because everything sounded so good. We finally settled on the Loco Moco because we never turn down a chance to try this dish when we see it on the menu. The second dish was a Curry Katsu Chicken-Don. While both dishes were great, but the Loco Moco was our favorite. Instead of a fried egg, they opted for a tornado egg over rice. The hamburger patty was definitely homemade and topped with two different gravies: brown and white. It was served with pickled ginger. The dish was pretty rich but having the pickled items cut some of the richness down without diluting the savory flavors of the dish. Service was exceptional. As soon as we walked in, a young gentleman greeted and seated us right away. He offered us complimentary tea after he sat us. The weather was chilly that day and the tea hit the spot. The owner and several other staff members came by our table. Not just to ask if we need anything but seem to genuinely care about our feedback. It was really nice to be able to interact with the owner. He invited us back and we did a couple weeks later. We got the Loco Moco again on our second visit as well as the Okonomiyaki, a savory pancake topped with an egg, bacon and pickled ginger. Once again, the Loco Moco stole the show. The okonomiyaki seemed more like a fritata, but still very tasty. I cannot wait to come back and bring my friends. It's located where Kau Kau used to be. I saw the new brunch menu on IG and we had to come check it out! Genki Kitchen took over the old Kau Kau location. Plenty of easy parking and we were the only guests as soon as they opened on a Sunday morning! Seems like a family establishment with all the kids putting in effort and showing great work ethic. Love seeing them all work together like that! The menu is easy to read and doesn't have an overwhelming amount of options. They have a brunch menu as well as appetizers, noodles, and donburi options. -Genki Okonomiyaki: loved the addition of an egg on top to make it a brunch dish! I think I would've liked more filling inside the pancake itself like a traditional okonomiyaki with more seafood and veggies but otherwise it was a tasty dish. - Kikori omelette: We liked the different meats inside. It looks like a big portion but it's actually mostly potatoes. I think a bigger omelette or just lowering the $21 price may be more enticing. - French toast with fruit: love the thick cut shokupan and the house whipped cream! Overall was a great experience here with very friendly service. They sometimes checked a little bit too often but like I mentioned, we were the only ones in the restaurant and I'm sure they just wanted to make sure our needs were met. Came here with friends after seeing a video on social media about this spot. I had never heard of it until the video and wanted to check it out. The menu looked amazing so I was excited. Staff was incredibly friendly and took care of us. I got the genki benedict with the plant based meat and oh my god I think this is one of the best Benedict's I've ever had. The shoku pan bread was soft and delicious, the hollandaise sauce was super tasty with the slight hint of yuzu, the eggs were poached to perfection and I really enjoyed the plant based meat. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant! We ordered the French toast topped with fresh whipped cream, and it was soft, fluffy, and perfectly sweet. The fried chicken and waffles were equally impressive. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, while the waffle had the perfect balance of crispiness on the outside and fluffiness on the inside. We also tried the loco moco, which was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The sauces complemented the dish perfectly and really brought everything together. The pancake itself is not your typical pancake like American diners. The sauce on top is what gives it the sweet with a mix of savory. There is also a sunny side egg where you have to break the yolk if you want to balance out the sweet. Highly recommend! Have a bite with the purple carnage included in the dish! Gives a refreshing taste. COUNTRY FRIED KATSU is inspired from the American brunch menu. The katsu was really well battered. I could enjoy the crunch with the meaty chicken. The flavor of the crust was also phenomenal. Add some gravy to the katsu too. I do feel the gravy was a little bland. It also comes with potatoes & bell peppers. The potatoes were not all the way cooked. Cones with 2 sunny side eggs or if you prefer scrambled. Nice touch of runniness if you don't want gravy for the next bite. GENKI POUTINE was okay. Japanese Brunch Fusion? Yes please! Replacing Kau Kau is a new restaurant that is sure to please! Genki Kitchen is a new exciting brunch spot in its soft opening stage! Location: A stones throwaway awake from Sac State, although not a direct walk or drive. Genki sites between H and J street in a desirable area between East Sac and the campus. Many fond memories and a great spot for a brunch establishment especially with a unique and cool concept. Service: Genki Kitchen appears to be running a soft opening but that didn't affect their service. Staff is great, friendly and warm. Owner Dan is a fun guy and is willing to talk to customers and talk about opening this place. Of course, YMMV with a new business and staff learning but things are looking good! Vibe: Nice, clean interior and a real home comfort vibe. This place has amble seating and the staff makes it warm and inviting! Food: We ordered the Genki Loco Moco and the Genki Benedict. Along with that came complimentary coffee or tea. First Loco Moco. Wow. A Good Loco should be hearty comfort food. A simple dish of Rice, gravy, egg, and burger patty. Genki really hit its on the mark with its own unique flair. The introduction of Japanese spice and their tornado egg works really well and paid homage to its more traditional dish. I am a huge fan and will defintely have this again. The next dish Genki Benedict is also off the traditional classic of eggs benedict. A PERFECTLY poached egg and Hollandaise sauce that was not overpowering with Spam. Both dishes were amazing! The future looks bright for this place. When dining at a restaurant, especially a family-owned mom-and-pop establishment, it is refreshing to find owners who are actively involved in the day-to-day operations. Not owners who simply walk by and say hello, but those who genuinely take the time to greet their guests, take orders, sit down, chat, and build relationships with their customers. That personal connection is what helps a restaurant thrive. Genki Kitchen, owners Nancy and Dan embody exactly that. They are two of the kindest and most welcoming people you could meet. They truly listen to their customers, value feedback, and are always open to ideas and suggestions. It's true that great food brings people in, but it's Nancy and Ben's genuine hospitality that keeps them coming back...I've been there twice now and looking forward to the next time. Now, let's talk about the food. Everything we ordered was delicious, with a few standout items worth highlighting. The homemade gravy is rich, flavorful, and comforting--the kind you'll remember long after your meal. The Chicken Katsu was perfectly cooked: fresh, crispy, and never greasy. Every bite delivered great crunch and flavor without feeling heavy. The Loco Moco is enormous and packed with flavor, so come hungry. The Katsu Curry was another favorite. While Genki Kitchen lets guests customize the spice level with seasonings on the side, I found the curry itself had a slight kick. Even so, it was delicious and something I would gladly order again. The Chicken and Waffles is another must-try. The plate comes with two large pieces of Chicken Katsu, and the portion size is impressively generous. For vegetarians, the Mt. Fuji Salad is a great option. I ordered one to go and enjoyed it. My only suggestion would be to package the crispy noodle topping separately for takeout orders so it retains its crunch instead of softening with the dressing and vegetables. Another standout was the Country Katsu, featuring two large pieces of perfectly cooked Katsu topped with the homemade gravy. I actually asked them to provide the gravy on the side. The combination was delicious, and the portion was large enough for leftovers. One pleasant surprise was the complimentary coffee and tea. Few breakfast, brunch, or lunch spots offer complimentary drinks, making it a thoughtful touch that reflects the hospitality Nancy and Dan bring to their restaurant. Great food may bring customers through the door, but genuine hospitality keeps them coming back. Genki Kitchen delivers both. If you're looking for delicious food, generous portions, and owners who truly care about their customers, Genki Kitchen is well worth a visit. read more

Arrived at 12:40 on a Sunday, had to wait about an hour to get a table for 2. Plenty of stores around to keep you busy. Kitchen was backed up so we waited a bit for our food. My daughter got the chicken and waffles. Lots of katsu chicken. Breading was light and crunchy compared to L&L chicken katsu, not as well seasoned on its own, but if you're having a big bite with the waffle and coconut flavor whip cream, I guess you don't want to over power it. I got the loco moco, presentation is as beautiful as all the other orders coming out the kitchen. Huge portion, took home half, the tornado egg looked cool, but it was a bit dry for my liking. Plenty of tasty gravy to make up for it. Burger was thick, moist and tasty and had plenty of rice as well. Everything was worth the wait. Staff is very courteous and friendly. Stumbled upon this spot on Yelp. They took over where Kau Kau used to be at. We came Sunday evening and only 2 other tables were occupied. We decided on Gyu Don and Niku (Beef) Udon. Food came out pretty quick. Gyu don was a bit bland. The broth for niku udon was on the sweeter side initially and then it became quite salty. Flavor was pretty good though. Service was a bit lacking. The staff was on their phones most time we were there. We had to flag them for water refill. It is a nice place overall and well lit. read more

*Rice and tasty * I give Genki Restaurant 5/5 stars for overall experience. From the moment we walked in, the experience felt warm and welcoming. You can really appreciate the love for Japanese fusion food throughout the menu, and the service stood out right away. A special shoutout to the young host, Tray, who was an absolute star. He greeted customers, took orders, and even brought drinks to tables with such a positive attitude. His hospitality truly helped make the experience memorable. **The food is 4/5 stars The loco moco was pleasantly delicious. The patty was seasoned well, and I loved that they served both curry sauce and house-made gravy with it. I also personally enjoyed the softer, mushy rice texture, although I know that may not be everyone's preference. The house-made gravy with the country fried katsu had good flavor. Since I've enjoyed many different styles of katsu over the years, my palate is a little more sensitive to seasoning, so I personally would have liked a bit more salt in the chicken and crispy, seasoned potatoes. I may not drive almost 30 minutes to come back again, but this is definitely a good local spot for those in the area. Wow! So happy to have found this place! The Yelp reviews don't disappoint. We got the Loco Moco (holy cow don't pass this one up!), the katsu and waffles (perfectly cooked crispy katsu), poutine fries with curry (a win), and the French toast (with this delicious cream and a hint of cinnamon) ! Food here was delicious and unique. And honestly, If you like a loco moco, you will LOVE this one. Two types of gravy and the patty is really tasty with it all. We thought the ceiling fans inside looked like a neat trick haha. We came on a weekday so it wasn't super busy and it was nice because we got to meet the owner, Dan! Came here for my sister inlaws birthday brunch and the place was bright and airy, friendly atmosphere right when you walk in,was seated rt away they have handicap parking and a pretty decent parking lot,we ordered our food and within 10mins our food came out hot and fresh the food was amazing very flavorful and the portions was well worth the price. The place was bright and open and welcoming and we had excellent service as soon as you walked in. Every dish was delicious savory and everything you had hoped for in a great brunch! Finally got to try this place, and I was so excited for the loco moco! It looked amazing, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The gravy was rich and flavorful! I absolutely loved the sauce. We also ordered the chicken katsu and waffle fries. The chicken was perfectly crispy, and the portions were generous enough to share. Everything was delicious, and the atmosphere made me feel like I was in Hawaii. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes. Highly recommend!! read more

Im soo happy my friend and I decided to come here. From start to finish our experience was amazing. We got sat really quickly and our server was super kind and helpful. We ordered, arguably too much food for two people, but every dish was SOO GOOOOOOD. I'm not a cucumber fan but I happily ate the cucumber salad. The Gyu Don was delicious and the meat was tender and well seasoned. The Beef Udon was also an absolute win imo. We also ordered the Salmon Teriyaki bento which surprised me the most. Juicy and well seasoned salmon and crispy gyoza was one of m6 favorite things on the table. The portions are generous and I'm was glad I got to try as much as I did. Inside is really nice. The portion is VERY generous, so maybe don't order as much as we did. Loco moco was heavier than i imagined, but the flavor is still good. The lumberjack is just what you could expect for an omelet. Fried squid leg was crunchy. Personally I think the loco moco was too heavy for my liking, but the appetizer and omelet was great. Additionally the service here is excellent. What a great find! I was curious about the restaurant that took over Kau Kau, so dropped by for a late lunch. Very cute, updated interior to reflect Japanese over the previous Hawaiian cuisine. I opted for the bento box and chose pork katsu and teriyaki beef as my two choices. Everything was so fresh and flavorful in the bento. Props for the katsu not being pounded so thin that you can't taste any of the meat. That's always been a pet peeve of mine, and Genki passed the test. The teriyaki steak was cooked perfectly and had a delicious teriyaki sauce. The bento also came with rice and a small mixed salad. I was given a complementary appetizer of sunomono salad which was lite and refreshing to my palette. The owner came over to check in how I liked my meal, which was incredibly gracious. I was the only one eating at the time I went in, so I sure hope Genki makes it as I know it's tough right now for restaurants. It's located in the antique row in East Sacramento. First time trying out this restaurant. While speaking to our waitress, she mentioned this restaurant switched owners and identity about 4 months ago. The service was amazing. The waitress came by asking if we needed anything a few times and the chief came out to ask how the food and everything else. Very cozy, homey vibe with 90s to early 2000s music. I shared the genki okonomiyaki and ika geso. We got tornado egg with our okonomiyaki and it was perfect. The right amount of sweet and savory. The bacon was crispy and the veggies soft, but not mushy. The ika geso was delicious. Thin layer of batter and crispy. Overall, it was a good experience. read more

When I heard Lynn from the beloved Tenjin had a new culinary endeavor I dropped everything and rushed over to Genki Kitchen to be one of the first to experience their soft opening. The former Kau Kau was transformed into a cool Japanese casual dining eatery with an awesome looking daruma inspired logo. Being a noodleholic I had to order the niku udon as my first dish to experience. I was not disappointed and was extemely pleased with it. The portion was great, and it was loaded with meat, much more than I was expecting. The broth was super tasty and not too sweet, but had that awesome umami flavor that I love. My fellow diners were equally pleased with their dishes, and everyone was very full and happy afterwards. Service was excellent and everyone was so friendly and kind. What a little gem! This family owned place serves a great Japanese brunch. Everything from Loco moco to donburri, udon and katsu chicken and waffles. The vibe is laid back and the food was delicious. We had the the Genki Okonomiyaki and fried Katsu chicken and waffles. The vegetable pancake was absolutely fluffy and flavorful on then inside and crunchy in the outside. I'd have eaten two! the chicken and waffles also did not disappoint. Crunchy panko chicken thighs and homemade whipped cream, but I really liked the sauces that came with the pancake on the chicken. Great service! The complimentary tea or coffee was a nice touch, definitely don't see that much in Asian restaurants. Our server was super friendly and had great energy. He brought extra plates for sharing and even offered to box leftovers. The benedict was unavailable for the day, but everything we had was good. The chicken was crispy, cream was smooth, and fruit was fresh. Never had a coconut waffle before, but it was tasty. Big portions for a fair price, it's too bad pictures don't do it justice. Upon arrival you step into a place that reminds of Japan. The restaurant is very similar to the establishment scattered across many of the Japanese cities. I believe the eldest son sat me at a table. He's very cordial and kind. He hangs on to words you speak before he replies. A very good customer service talent this one has . I asked what he would recommend between the Genki Okonomiyaki and the Kikori(Lumberjack) omelette. He smiled and said the omelette. When you really don't know what the restaurant fare will taste like you should always ask the waiter/waitresses. The fact I like many of the ingredients in the omelette helps. The one of the owners is named Nancy. She is all smiles with a helpful attitude. She told me that they have been opened for about four months now. The first bite of the omelette is heavenly. Met my gal pals for a quick brunchy today. Wild part they are next to antique store in East Sac. I have been hearing the hype about this place and suggested we try it out. Super glad we did! We decided to go family style so we could try multiple items on the menu. The food is awesome! The service from minute one was great friendly and quick. Overall we enjoyed our time and plan to go back as they have lots of interesting options for food. Wanted to try them all! Service: solid. Greeted by a very polite and professional young person. The older staff are equally polite. Never felt ignored or had any delay in service. Ambiance: it's fine. Nothing special but feels nice and clean. Parking is not an issue. Food: ordered 3 times: Ika geso (app), beef udon, and locomoco. Portions are great for the price you pay. Because the portions are on the bigger side, I don't feel like I paid a lot. I thought price was very fair. The Ika geso is good. Crispy and fine dipping sauce. Basically their fried calamari but just the legs. Udon: this was the clear winner. Broth was sweet and had fantastic flavor. Beef and noodles were cooked perfectly. Loco moco: this was the item I saw on IG that made me want to try the place. Visually it looks great. Overall flavor: it's fine. The beef is fine and the 2 sauces are good. The brown gravy and cheese(?) white sauce are both good. The egg is also just fine. A few suggestions I would offer: use day old or warm rice. Fresh rice made it wet and it got mushy with the sauce. Also, after awhile the entire dish gets mushy and the flavors kind of blend together. If they offered something pickled or something that was a little spicy- that would elevate the dish imo. read more
