came here for brunch on a saturday and was very impressed by the meal and attentiveness of the staff here at genki kitchen! for a late saturday morning, my party and i were surprisingly seated right away. we were initially asked if we would be able to sit at the bar but when a table became vacant around our arrival the kind staff immediately cleaned it up for us to use. there is so much on the menu that i will definitely be back to try. for this moment, we had ordered the unagi skillet, country fried katsu, and genki benedict. in this review, i'll solely be speaking about the unagi skillet as that's the meal i ordered. before getting into the great flavor profile of the dish, we did wait about 20 minutes for our dishes to come out. personally, i didn't find it to be too much of an issue, however, the staff came to the table apologizing about the wait time and reassured that our food would come out shortly. a gesture that i greatly appreciated and made the experience here feel hospitable. the unagi skillet was tasty; it included veggies, rice, a tornado egg, and the main star... the unagi. jam packed w flavors that complemented each other i highly recommend others to try this dish out!

We came here for brunch around 11am, Saturday and it was packed already. We waited for about 5 mins for our table. The waiter came and took our drink orders and once he brought that, another person promptly came to take our order. It took a long time for us to receive our food, approx. an hour! We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. The best part of our meal was the geso (squid legs). The vegetable tempura wasn't that good and it did not come with tempura sauce. It tasted like soy sauce! The French toast was something less to be desired. The French toast I make at home tastes better. We also got the loco moco and it was very bland. Unfortunately we probably won't come back.

Came here with a group of 4 people on a Saturday morning. It's a small restaurant so there was a bit of a wait but it wasn't too long, about 15-20 minutes. The place is very cutely decorated inside. Trendy and vibrant but not overly stimulating. They offered everybody complementary tea or coffee. Must be a promotion they are running. The coffee was very good. Rich and bold. I'm a bit of a coffee snob and their coffee passed the test for restaurant coffee. They had oatmilk creamer which is kind of rare for a place that does not specialize in coffee. I was very impressed with that option. The food took awhile to come out. No big deal since I was happily sipping coffee and chatting but I could see some people were getting a bit impatient nearby. The Loco Moco was HUGE! My friend can eat but he couldn't finish it and had to take some home. I took a bite and it was very authentic. Came with two types of gravy, country and traditional. Beef patty was well seasoned and moist. The Unagi rice/egg dish was very satisfying. The egg was fluffy and the unagi was what I expected. I had this very similar dish at another local asian fusion breakfast restaurant in Sac and the other place was just a tad bit better. A dallop of roe would have brighten the dish up. The French Toast was just okay. Nothing to write home about. A dusting of powdered sugar would have made the dish more appealing to the eye. It was decent but pretty standard. Service was very friendly and attentive. Staff came by multiple times to check on us and refill our beverages.

Food was all fantastic and service was absolutely wonderful. Everything we ordered was great, portions were big and you won't leave hungry. So happy to have found this place, will definitely be back! Our son instantly connected with the owners son who was so kind, helped with seating guests, refilled water glasses and so personable. The owners son is really into Pokemon cards so it was great to hear him talk about it and teach my son some tips about them.

4.5 stars A true family run business with the kids helping out. Service could be a bit slow, so they should consider hiring more people. - Okonomiyaki: unique item that got good reviews by others so I decided to try it. Not like any okonomiyaki I've had before (from Japan or here in cali). There's no protein in it, just the bacon on the side, which wasn't enough. It's just cabbage and too much batter. Very one-noted and on the bland side. - omlette, the meat one lol. Sorry i forgot the name but it had lots of meat. Egg was too thin though. Overall, I thought the items were a tad expensive but love the unique options. I would come back to try something else.

Genki is now my favorite lunch spot in Sacramento! Came on a Sunday afternoon and it was busy. Luckily, I was able to secure two seats at the bar. It's a family run restaurant, and everyone is so nice. We got the Genki Loco Moco and Salmon Teriyaki Skillet. They were absolutely delicious and the portions are big! I wish the rice itself had a little seasoning, but other than that I enjoyed all the texture and flavors coming together.

Was recommended this spot by a friend! Located in the parking lot with the antique mall. Family owned, everyone was friendly and helpful. Love that they offer complimentary green tea or coffee! We ordered the Genki Loco Moco and the Chicken Katsu and Waffle. Both were so good, would definitely recommend. Their Loco Moco came with a tornado egg and two different gravy's - a brown and a white gravy. I found pieces of bacon with my rice too! Presentation was great! The katsu chicken and waffle came with a side of freshly whipped cream and fresh fruit. The katsu came out perfectly crispy and the coconut waffle was fluffy and not too sweet. Huge portions! They even helped pack up our leftovers. Will def be back :)

I adore this place, and it's a whole family affair. The older kids were earning there keep and seating the guest which I LOVE and the food was all amazing and unique. Service was great and the space was nice and open. The loco moco had a fusion of gravy's that paired nicely and was yummy. Everything was delicious and can't wait to come back to try everything on the menu. Definitely stop in for a creative brunch option

The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant! We ordered the French toast topped with fresh whipped cream, and it was soft, fluffy, and perfectly sweet. The fried chicken and waffles were equally impressive. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, while the waffle had the perfect balance of crispiness on the outside and fluffiness on the inside. We also tried the loco moco, which was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The sauces complemented the dish perfectly and really brought everything together. Every item we ordered exceeded our expectations, and I would happily order all of them again. Highly recommended!

Came here with friends after seeing a video on social media about this spot. I had never heard of it until the video and wanted to check it out. The menu looked amazing so I was excited. Staff was incredibly friendly and took care of us. I got the genki benedict with the plant based meat and oh my god I think this is one of the best Benedict's I've ever had. The shoku pan bread was soft and delicious, the hollandaise sauce was super tasty with the slight hint of yuzu, the eggs were poached to perfection and I really enjoyed the plant based meat. I also got the peach mimosa which tasted delicious and wasn't too sweet or alcoholic. I can't wait to come back and try more stuff off their non brunch menu

Genki Kitchen is located where Evan's and Kau Kau used to be. Lots of parking there but it usually gets full around lunch time. Lunch time the place gets busy too but after around 1:30 there's less of a wait time to sit down. My wife and I just happened to look for brunch places since we wanted to try new places and saw Genki took over the spot. It looked like it'll have a unique brunch menu so we had to check out. On our first visit we ordered 3 different items that sounded good on the menu because it's either we like the food and come back or we don't if what we got was not good. We ordered the Genki Benedict, Genki Loco Moco and the Country Fried Katsu on our first visit. The Benedict was absolutely delicious with the yuzu sauce and spam. The Shoku pan under all of that just elevated it and it was one of our favorites. The Loco Moco had two gravies that were white and brown with a perfectly cooked patty that wasn't mushy and had good texture. I got the sunny side egg on top of that. The country fried katsu had great texture with the gravy that was great as well. On our second visit we got the loco Moco again but with a tornado egg to switch it up and it'll be hard to choose between that and the sunny side next time I come. Next the GyuDon my son got and he said was great but I didn't get to try it since he finished it before I could get a bite . Also got the Curry Katsu Chicken Don and server let me know I had the option to do gravy instead so my big back went with the gravy and I'd do it again. Overall 9.5 out of 10 and we will come back here often. I believe Dan the owner talked to us on the second visit and he seemed like a great guy.

What truly makes a business great is great owners. When dining at a restaurant, especially a family-owned mom-and-pop establishment, it is refreshing to find owners who are actively involved in the day-to-day operations. Not owners who simply walk by and say hello, but those who genuinely take the time to greet their guests, take orders, sit down, chat, and build relationships with their customers. That personal connection is what helps a restaurant thrive. Genki Kitchen, owners Nancy and Dan embody exactly that. They are two of the kindest and most welcoming people you could meet. They truly listen to their customers, value feedback, and are always open to ideas and suggestions. It's true that great food brings people in, but it's Nancy and Ben's genuine hospitality that keeps them coming back...I've been there twice now and looking forward to the next time. Now, let's talk about the food. Everything we ordered was delicious, with a few standout items worth highlighting. The homemade gravy is rich, flavorful, and comforting--the kind you'll remember long after your meal. The Chicken Katsu was perfectly cooked: fresh, crispy, and never greasy. Every bite delivered great crunch and flavor without feeling heavy. The Loco Moco is enormous and packed with flavor, so come hungry. The Katsu Curry was another favorite. While Genki Kitchen lets guests customize the spice level with seasonings on the side, I found the curry itself had a slight kick. Even so, it was delicious and something I would gladly order again. The Chicken and Waffles is another must-try. The plate comes with two large pieces of Chicken Katsu, and the portion size is impressively generous. For vegetarians, the Mt. Fuji Salad is a great option. I ordered one to go and enjoyed it. My only suggestion would be to package the crispy noodle topping separately for takeout orders so it retains its crunch instead of softening with the dressing and vegetables. Another standout was the Country Katsu, featuring two large pieces of perfectly cooked Katsu topped with the homemade gravy. I actually asked them to provide the gravy on the side. The combination was delicious, and the portion was large enough for leftovers. One pleasant surprise was the complimentary coffee and tea. Few breakfast, brunch, or lunch spots offer complimentary drinks, making it a thoughtful touch that reflects the hospitality Nancy and Dan bring to their restaurant. Great food may bring customers through the door, but genuine hospitality keeps them coming back. Genki Kitchen delivers both. If you're looking for delicious food, generous portions, and owners who truly care about their customers, Genki Kitchen is well worth a visit.

I tried their sukiyaki set, both wagyu and seafood. I wish they had given some instructions on the approach or order I should eat the sets of food. It was a little chaotic trying to figure out how I could submerge all the ingredients in the broth so they would cook evenly. The tempura is perfectly crispy, but the rice was a little brittle and got dried really fast. The texture was more like Vietnamese broken rice, and it caught me off guard because when I tried their sushi a while ago, they used very high-quality rice. As is typical with sukiyaki, the broth becomes very flavorful at the end, absorbing all the flavors from high-quality ingredients, but my udon got a little dry while waiting. Since I tried both set, the wagyu sukiyaki broth became a little too sweet at the end. My favorite is definitely the seafood sukiyaki broth. Would I try these pricy sukiyaki again? Probably not. Would I go back to Azayaka again? 100%. This would not discourage me from going back there any amount.

I brought family in from the Bay Area to Chef Frank's, and it did not disappoint. The ambiance strikes that perfect balance--chill and casual, yet still elevated enough for a special occasion. We kicked things off with a mix of plain and spicy edamame, followed by two orders of my husband's favorite shrimp tempura and three orders of my go-to rainbow roll. Everything came out fresh and beautifully presented. A particularly special moment--my 88-year-old father made the trip to Sacramento after seven years (his first visit since my mom passed) and he truly enjoyed the beef/salmon bento box. That alone made the night meaningful. We also ordered additional specialty rolls with unagi and shrimp tempura for the non-celiac guests, and for our main event, the table indulged in three large sashimi platters. The fish was impeccably fresh, artfully arranged over ice--this is where they consistently shine. To top it all off, the birthday girls (my sister and my nephew's girlfriend) were treated to complimentary desserts--cheesecake and panna cotta--which was such a thoughtful touch. The ladies paired the evening with glasses of Cabernet, another personal favorite. Overall, it was a memorable night filled with great food, attentive service, and special family moments. The dip was great and I asked for a side of daikon (which is common for this dish, but you will have to ask for it here). 3. Bento box was excellent with chicken katsu and sesame chicken Meh 4. Crab fried rice... oddly includes crunchy bits of rice (none of us liked that element). Crab was fresh, but the dish tasted very oddly bland. We will be back to try more of their dishes with our great first experience.

The interior has been redone, and it feels lighter and a little bit more Restaurant. As a heads up, they've only been open for about 7/8 months and don't really have an established happy hour yet, but I understand that they are working on creating one! They have a pretty extensive sushi menu, and you may get lost in all of the choices, and there are many delicious ones that I definitely want to go back and try! One of my Foodie friends, and I decided to start out with the spicy edamame. It definitely would not be a choice for either one of us. We found that the edamame was not completely boiled, and the spicy seasoning while poured on top, definitely would've been more enjoyable if the edamame had time to marinate in it. Overall, we didn't really care for its flavor or spice level. The assorted tempura was pretty tasty! The batter is light, and the veggies and shrimp are delicious. The dipping sauce was pretty mid-level and I would've enjoyed something with more flavor and something that would've enhanced the tempura. The Hinoka roll was larger than I anticipated, which is always a good thing, and I ordered this based on the recommendation of the waitress. The roll was mid-level. Not absolutely fabulous, but not horrible either. They are very light handed on the sauce on top of the rolls, and I did request some Unagi sauce, which definitely helped to elevate the flavor profile We both loved the way the Nigiri was presented, and definitely made for fun conversation. The Nigiri is pricey, and was tasty. Naoki definitely should be given grace since they are newer. The staff is pretty attentive, and I'm hoping that they find their groove in our community They have their own parking lot with free parking, which is always a plus when you're in or near the downtown/Midtown area. Check them out and don't forget to order the tempura!

Service is prompt and they're always great at recommending items. I'm honestly perplexed by all the mid / negative reviews. I've been going here for years and it's certainly one of the top restaurants in Sacramento. We know to make a reservation or go mid- week to avoid the busy days. Don't know what everyone else is expecting! Must have dishes: - yakionigiri - grilled wings - Negima - niku udon

We had a reservation but it didn't matter since no one was eating when we got there at 6 pm anyway. Parking was easy since there's a nearby available street parking and on a Tuesday, it was not full. We were immediately seated upon coming in. I ordered a katsu don and I was surprised it tasted bitter that I asked for soy sauce and chili oil (was surprised theres $1 fee for that, we were not informed) to make it taste better. My katsu don bowl had a huge serving of rice and not that much meat. I did get full from eating the rice. My husband ordered a ramen and he didn't like it. We got a kiddie meal for our child. It has edemame, rice, miso soup, chicken on a skewer and hotdog on a stick. I was not expecting the food to taste bitter. I thought Japanese people like sweet flavors.
