The service was excellent but I ordered the portobello sandwich. It was so salty I only ate half. Maybe some people like it that salty but I don't. Your experience at Ben's is 100% dependent on the waiter or waitress you are assigned. Some are amazing and you have a great experience. Others are so incredibly rude and condescending. I don't know if this is a training issue, but when you work in hospitality, being kind to guests is important. You don't even need to be nice, but just acting like they are humans is a good start. As someone who has been to Ben's probably 100+ times, my experience today had me decide to get up and leave without food after waiting for my waitress to stop flirting with the table of men behind us. We waited for over 20 minutes at 11am (not a busy time at all) and didn't even get asked if we wanted a glass of water. She put our menus on the table so quickly and turns away that they blew all over the patio leaving us to run and pick them up, as if she was in a rush to get away from us. After smiling and laughing with the table of men behind us, she came over and acted annoyed we were there. With inflation, you gotta be thoughtful of where you are spending money, and bad, annoyed service is definitely not one of them. Hope Ben's can work on that customer service. As for me, I'll go somewhere where my money and presence seems appreciated. read more

Gentle Ben's is a popular and well-known location for groups, beers, and sports, especially during game days. It is right across from Urban Outfitters, so it isn't hard to miss. Like most places on University, parking is limited, but if you park in the parking structure, don't forget to ask the waiter to validate your parking ticket! There are quite a few drink options for the 21+ crowd. From beers and cocktails to wines. They serve various local brewery beers on tap. If you come for happy hour, I suggest trying one of their margaritas. Like most pubs, there are the common burgers, tacos, nachos, sandwiches and salads. I really liked the fish tacos and the nachos. The tacos were fried fish and slightly spicy, but with some good salsa on the side. The spanish rice and beans were very salty, so if you can exchange them for a salad or fries, I would suggest to ask for that. The nachos are a large portion size that can be shared amongst friends. Food - Ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich. The 2 chicken strips on the sandwich lacked any type of flavor. Chicken strips fell off the sandwich each time I picked it up. Fries were edible, and honestly tasted better than the sandwich. If you order chicken tenders (one of the cheapest items on the menu at $15), they will be very thin and have little to no flavor. Service - Our waitress checked up on us once (never refilled our water over the course of the entire meal) and somebody at my table asked for a side of buffalo sauce. After 15 minutes with no update, we had to go looking for somebody to get the sauce, which ended up tasting more like spicy marinara/spicy ketchup than buffalo sauce. Ambiance - We sat outside, where the building is kitted with mist sprayers which were effective in keeping us cool enough for our meal, but they have a bad problem with flies and other bugs that were flying around. I was dealing with flies over the course of my entire meal. Conclusion - Do not come here for tasty food. Do not come here for an affordable meal. Gentle Ben's is nothing to write home about. I hope they can make their food, atmosphere, and service enjoyable. read more

The waiter/server was nice & attentive offering me a water while I waited but the hostesses & front lobby area staff we not nice nor accommodating telling me move from a place which was unoccupied whereby waiter served me water. Then I got a text telling me my order was ready, which wasn't, waited another 7 mins for someone to box & bag & bring out to me. Food: burger was ok, tasted like the Costco frozen garden burger. No romaine lettuce, tasteless iceberg. Cheese was flavorless & rubbery. Bun was dry; I had to use every condiment they gave me to get the burger any flavor & moisture. The side of coleslaw was dry cabbage shavings with not moisture, no dressing. I couldn't eat it raw, unseasoned & bitter. We stopped in here on a hot July day for a late lunch and were immediately seated at the back of the restaurant. We placed our orders, and our drinks and food were brought in no time. Service was pretty good with the one exception that we paid for guacamole with our tacos when they already came with guacamole. It would have been nice if our server would have told us this that when she asked us if we wanted guacamole. Otherwise the food was delicious. The carnitas tacos were really tasty and the beet salad was divine with large candied walnuts on the top. I was first introduced to Ben's during my undergraduate years at the UA. My senior year, specifically. I think I went, maybe, three times. That was years ago, and I didn't care much for the space. But I find that I do like it now, but only during daylight hours. I enjoy the slightly dark look and feel of the place. Downstairs, the lights aren't blaring and there isn't too-too much natural light beaming in. Just the right amount. I find that the food and service are both consistent. I've tried the burgers, sandwiches and a few of the fried fare. I find that I would not go out of my way to dine here -- especially not for dinner. But it is a fine place to grab a glass of wine, an appetizer and some good conversation if you are up for a happy hour run. Also, the patios are lush during the cooler temperatures! I went to a meeting at Gentle Ben's Brewery today. I had to use the elevator as I could not climb the stairs to the top floor. When the elevator door opened up, the elevator was filled wall to wall with cleaning supplies. A server had to remove a cart so I could get in. This gave me an awful impression of Gentle Ben's. The top meeting room acoustics were horrible. You could barely hear the people you were talking to. The men's bathroom looked like it was from the 1950s. Very poorly designed. read more
