In fact, the restaurant participates in Restaurant.com where I can purchase vouchers and get these food in further discount. I got several $20 purchase as a price of $10 (50% off) thanks to T-Mobile Tuesday hat gave me $25 credit each time. This place is good for groups. If you're looking for somewhere that has some variety (burgers, tacos, salads, sandwiches) and can appease picky eaters, you might consider Gentle Ben's. I've dined here for department happy hours and the occasional work lunch. Nothing on the menu really excited me (although they do have good beer battered fries and onion rings). The service is ok. They are good for large groups. I've shared numerous appetizers like nachos, spinach and artichoke dip (my fave here), chips and salsa and more. Gentle Ben's wouldn't be my first choice if I were in charge of a social gathering near / on campus. They also don't have many healthy / light options aside from salads. read more

Get there about 5pm to beat the rush on a Thursday. Place was packed by 6:00OM. Standard college restaurant filled with students, staff, and faculty. Outdoor patio is great. After about 10 minutes of waiting a staff member noticed me and went to "find" my server. Service was fine after that mishap. Had the California burger. Looked great but immediately fell apart. It was a soggy mess and I had to use a fork and knife for the entire meal. The mess actually leaked through and dissolved the paper lining the basket resulting in a blob of guacamole on the table. I didn't enjoy what was left of the burger. The bacon, guacamole, and cheese all sounded good but the perfumed smoke of the bacon combined with the guacamole was too much fragrance for me. The meal also came with fries and about a half of them were hard as rocks. Porter was good. It's the type of place that I'd like to go back to but the food was a big enough problem that I won't. read more

I love to go to this restaurant when I visit my son at college! They have a nice outdoor patio. I always have great service and I love the chicken salad. I was accidentally charged for a burger and didn't realize it until I got home. They credited my account right away when I reached out. Walked by and had this wonderful smell... walked in an it wasn't that smell. Actually, the smell was kinda weird and, no, I cannot o put my finger on it. Ordered the raspberry ale and the boyfriend ordered the blonde. I thought the raspberry ale was good and he thought the blonde tasted like water. I ordered the buffalo chicken chicken sandwich and beer battered fries, he had the patty melt and beer battered fries. I thought the Buffalo sandwich was good. The bread was perfect- not hard and not too soft. Fries were crunchy. Patty melt was mediocre and thought fries were good. He did t undeRstand why they used steak fries and essentially beer battered steak friess - appears to be a waste of money. Space was clean and bathrooms as well. Just tried GBB's. Underwhelmed. Massively underwhelmed. Ambiance: 1.5. There is NO AMBIANCE. It is just a space with chairs. No personality. At all. Service: Our waiterperson Jenna was excellent. She was personable, attentive, sweet and she got us. We ordered a burger well done. It came out barely medium....blood and hamburger juice puddled on the plate. Yes, puddled. It was gross. Out awesome waiterperson Jenna was as grossed out as we were. Sent it back and the replacement was perfect. We were not comp'd anything...we felt a comp of a beer, a burger, something comp'd was warranted. Now the good, OK, the great....the Citrazona IPA was off the chart perfection. Well balanced hop and citrus, not too strong, so you could plow through a couple and still function. An amazing beer in a ho hum local. I guess college kids don't notice the other stuff. One of my absolute favorite places to stop in when I'm on Univeristy. The staff is always very friendly, personable, and helpful. Couldn't decide if I wanted wings or a burger, Riley the bartender, pointed out the half wing option (I went with the tequila cilantro wings) and her favorite burger, the Phoenix. Gentle Ben's is a UofA staple whether you love it oR hate it. It is by no means a culinary wonder, and it doesn't really attempt to be. It's the kind of place you stop by for happy hour with friends when you're nearby campus, and it does that well. All apps and cocktails Aaron 6 bucks, and weLl drinks are 4. Which on its own is already a great deal, but even better when you consider that the 6 dollar happy hour margaritas are in fact fantastic. You're not swindled with a fruity drink consisting of only mixer here, and while it's a little more expensive than the 4 dollar marg across the street at Pete's it makes up with it in flavor complexity if that's what you're looking for. The food itself is fine, with commendable portion sizes. Again, not any culinary wonder - but it does what it sets out to do well: a college bar with a place to grab decently priced apps with friends. read more

This is one of the classic breweries in Tucson, although the brewing is now done over at Barrio. I have been coming to this place for decades, and do not know how I haven't reviewed it. First off great location down on University, great views if you know what I mean, and a nice comfortable atmosphere. There are two stories and two outdoor patios. The beers here aren't going to blow you away, but they are going to be well made, free from off flavors, and served with a smile. There are quite a few to choose from, and there is plenty of food to be paired with on the menu. My favorite beers here would be the Pumpkin Porter when it's available, the IPA, the Mocha Java Stout, and the Barleywine. This is definitely a must do if you are down in the U of A area. read more

came here with a group of over 50 and was surprised by how quick the service was. they sat us outside and turned on the fire heaters. they were able to start separate tabs and close out in a really timely manner. fries - these were so good and crispy without being too oily. loved the batter the diane burger - i wish i had got this a little bit more rare. I got it medium well and it was super dry. even the condiments couldn't save it lizzy salad - it could have used a more tart dressing to compat the heavy meat giving this four stars for the fries :) read more

What can I say. We arrived at 1pm. Got a table and sat by 1:10. Ordered drinks and appetizers of beer sponges (pretzels) and spinach artichoke dip at 1:20 and by 3pm still hadn't received our food. The HH apps are good for a group, but not outstanding enough in flavor or presentation to make me a frequent flyer. (Example - on a recent visit with colleagues, our nachos were incredibly soggy.) On a beautiful day, it's a great spot to snag a patio beer with friends - but if I'm craving a burger or bar food, I prefer other options in town. read more

Service was great and the restaurant was really nice. My burger, the California Burger was subpar. Wasn't very "California." Has guacamole in it, but not much of it. Guacamole was also pretty bland. The patty was good, but the bun was a plain white, dry, and not toasted. The bun broke off as I was eating, so I'm assuming it wasn't too fresh. Fries are plain, unless there's another option for them. Pretty pricey for what I got. ($11) I'd definitely go back again still when I'm in town to try other burgers, hopefully better. read more

Came to Gentle Ben's on a Friday afternoon by myself, sat outside and people watched. Tons of outdoor seating and TVs, great place to watch sports. I ordered the California burger with the Lizzy salad because of previous yelp reviews and was not disappointed! Only thing keeping this from 5 stars is it took awhile for my food to come out (which my waitress acknowledged) and when I finally got my burger it was a little cold. But the flavor of both the salad and burger made up for it!!! The salad had so many toppings and the ratio of toppings almost outweighed the amount of romaine. I will definitely be back and try their beer next time. Also overheard the table behind me was celebrating a birthday and she got a free dessert of choice! read more
