JoJo's has been on my friend and I's list and we finally got to try it today! We came in around 10:30 on a Friday and the place was fairly empty. The restaurant is tucked away in an alley downtown, but the inside greets you with its cozy and fresh feel. The pastries at the counter had a nice mix of regular, gluten free, and vegan options. The outdoor seating in the back is also very cute and set up so that you get plenty of shade. You order at the counter and they give you a beeper that will tell you when your food is ready at the counter. I ordered the Nachos with chicken and my friend got Bentley's Tofu Burrito and an iced Caramel Brown Sugar Latte. The food came out fast and was more plentiful than I was expecting! I could see the nachos being a great sharing item for a the table. We both went home with leftovers and were satisfied. I feel the need to come back in the morning again for a study day to try their drinks and pastries, as well in the evening to try their dinner menu. We were here in the Spring and that's the time to go! This restaurant is in an outside courtyard that is beautiful. It's a perfect setting for lunch. We were able to sit by the turtle and fish pond, so we had a perfect location. To order the food, you need to go inside to the bar and place your order. When it is ready, you go to another location to pick up your food. There are servers, but mostly to take drink orders. The food was presented beautifully and this place seems to be tailor-made for Instagram. The food was solid, but honestly it wasn't as spectacular tasting as it was great-looking. Also, it is curious that there is tipping expected (pay when ordering at the bar), but no one takes your order and you pick up your own food. To me, that's a one-star deduction. If it's self service, I don't think tipping should be expected. In terms of atmosphere and food presentation, I give this five stars. In terms of taste, it rates 3 1/2 stars. In terms of service, well, it's not bad service, it's no service. read more

Ugh hate to leave a poor review for a place I used to love but unfortunately recent changes to both the menu and service have changed it completely. It used to have wonderful tapas to enjoy while sitting in the courtyard however now the service is self serve by ordering at a counter. There is a lot less menu options. We ordered the Brussels sprouts to have something to snack on with drinks. I waited 20 minutes while my friend went inside to order us our food and drinks. When we received our appetizer it was undercooked. There is no service so if your food comes out poorly or something you didn't order there is no one to tell. sadly it feels like a cafeteria now without the ambience and without the quality of food or service. I don't think we will be back to a spot that we once visited every month for an enjoyable evening out. read more

Love coming back to this amazing oasis of food, live music, and eclectic decor. When visiting with friends for a day drip from Phoenix, we stopped at Jojo's for a bite to eat. I shared the nachos with a friend and got a few tacos plus a margarita. Delicious! My friends are both gluten free and vegan, and this spot caters to exactly such. My friend's meal was slightly delayed coming out. However, the lovely waitress made everything right by not charging her for the dish. My friend was so grateful. They are beyond friendly and welcoming here, and that is a testament to such. You could easily spend hours here after eating, exploring the decor and little shops surrounding the restaurant. All the greenery is stunning! Such an alternative, hippy dippy spot. Really love visiting time and time again. read more

Walking distance from the Tucson Museum of Art. It's a nice place to stop for a meal. They offer indoor and outdoor dining. I ordered the Chicken salad and it was delicious. It has big chunks of roasted chicken, dill and the dressing tasted like it was made with pickle juice. It came with a side of focaccia bread and salad. Service was friendly. Overall, I really enjoy eating here. The last time I came here they have a new system where you get a beeper when you order your food. The beeper goes off when your food is ready. I ordered my food well before all of my friends. My friends had already finished their food and I never got my food. I had to hunt somebody down to figure out what was going on. Eventually, I was able to get some food and it was delicious but the pager either didn't work or something happened with my order. The staff was very apologetic that I never got my food. read more

This is a great spot for a large group and the atmosphere is perfect for any occasion. I love the courtyard feel and live music. It's counter service and the food comes out quick. You get a buzzer when you order and pick it up at the window. I had the birria tacos and didn't love them, too salty and the meat was tough (removing a star for the food). I look forward to trying other items, even though it is a small menu. What stood out here was that the owner Jo and her son Eli were walking around the restaurant the entire time checking in with all of the guests. They both thanked our group multiple times for coming. Came in from out of town and friend said we should try this place based off the pictures for the atmosphere. Come to find out we really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was amazing and then being connected to the art stores gave such a cool chill vibe. Granted we came during the tacos and nachos only menu hours but they did not disappoint at all. We went back for more. Not to mention the staff was outstanding from attending everyone to making you feel as if they were part of the group. The drinks tasted amazing. What a unique hidden gem. Not being from Tucson, needed GPS to find it. At first approach I thought it was an on a blocked street order & pick up restaurant. But that was a pasta place. In the middle of which was an alleyway that led to Jo Jo's outdoor restaurant surrounded by half a dozen boutique shops. On top of that, the food was great. The location is really nice and it's definitely a great stop after going to the museum. However, it seemed a little pricey for not very well cooked cauliflower "wings." The drinks are also slightly costly but actually good especially the spicy pineapple margaritas. The bartender that was there and service was actually great but this is one of those places where they don't really have servers, you put all orders in and get it at the pick up window. Food: I have to be honest -- I came here for the Corn Cakes -- and I was not disappointed!! Cornbread and maize lovers will fall in love with the corn cake pancakes -- they're a pancake made with cornmeal and they even have little corn kernels in the patties!! She also was great about refilling my coffee and our waters. We didn't feel rushed to leave at all, despite how busy things can get at this popular establishment! Ambiance: What I had no idea about Jojo's is that there is an entire craft shop that encircles the restaurant perimeter (the restaurant sits in the middle of this encirclement). The shops are filled with locally made artworks and crafts; Jojo's showed me a mix of indigenous, Mexican, and Southwest USA culture that enabled me to understand the charm of Tucson/Arizona more broadly!! OK, so JoJo's may not be the very best resturant in Tucson but it does have the very best Tucson atmosphere and vibe! If you have out-of-town visitors...this is the place to bring them for a sweet and fun intro to Tucson. At night...it can be...dare I say...romantic with the string lights and live (professional) music. And the occasional child gleefully running around only helps make the experience a little more joyful. Tucson as a whole is what Austin, TX wishes it still was and there's just enough elements in play here from both cities that makes hanging out at JoJo's a very enjoyable experience. The food is just icing on the cake as this is more of an experience since you're in a lovely outside funky setting. Speaking of the food....it oscillates from just good to pretty good probably depending on who's in the kitchen and how slammed they are. We had a decent steak here recently and their board is good. There are a couple stores attached to this restaurant and the seating is outside although there is an indoor seating area for the bar. The tables outside have heaters. Jo Jo's offers a beautiful ambiance with a newly restored (beautiful brick) patio. Jo Jo's reminds me of a restaurant I could visit in Queens, NY or on K Street in Sacramento. Jo Jo's is off the beaten path, and serendipitously, we across it leaving the Tucson Museum of Art. Our waitress was pleasant and welcoming. When I go out, I often look for a dish I never had, a signature, or unique to expand my palate. To drink, I had the Tres Verdes. While I appreciate the taste of mescal, I think the jalapeno was too forward. To eat, I had the poblano tamal. While the dish was unique and had a pleasant taste, I felt the portion size was small, especially because of the price. Perhaps offer a side of rice or beans. Our appetizer, the chorizo stuffed dates, was undoubtedly the zenith of the meal. I would absolutely order this every time! Amazing. I recommend trying Jo Jo's and look forward to coming back. I also think they have some of the best huevos rancheros in Tucson, which is no small feat. My husband and I had a really good lunch here. I had been craving a birria taco, so I was glad to see it on JoJo's menu. The only problem I had, which was small, was that I was anticipating some great consommé to accompany my tacos. The tacos were flavorful and tender, they went perfectly with some lime, pickled onions, and salsa. The tots were also perfect, the outsides were crunchy and slightly salty, with a hot center - quite possibly the best tater tots I've had. The buffalo cauliflower was spicier than I expected, but they were tasty. I only tried a small bite of the vegan tacos, but I love mushrooms and these were seasoned well and juicy. The Orange Cardomom sticky bun was the highlight and I highly recommend... coupled with the midnight fig cocktail. I had ordered the jojo's Francesinha which was okay ( a little too salty and the gravy was more like a tomato red sauce than a birria gravy which was just not my thing). The Tallboy tots however were delicious- the tots fried to perfect crispiness. The outdoor space is super cozy with some strongly powered heating lamps in the winter. Friday night happy hour was very good. We order a small nachos and some margaritas with a tajin rim and both were yummy. We also had the Blue Oyster Mushroom chips, that come with hummus and they are amazing, it is on the specials menu but I hope they keep it for awhile. The ambiance is amazing and this restaurant is so unique with a mostly outdoor experience. The live music was perfect to set the mood and not too loud. I didn't even get a picture of the appetizers because they went so fast. I recommend trying all the small bites as a tasting menu. Lastly the mussels were probably the best I've ever had, the broth was amazingly flavored with chorizo. I would go back for those alone. I had a ranch water and added passion fruit, my mom loved her Bloody Mary and we had some tamarind cocktails. This outdoor patio is one of the best in Tucson. We happen to be there for happy hour and a $15 burger fries and beer was not only a good deal but an excellent dinner. My partner also got the bruschetta board and each small bite was delicious at $12 for a flight, the drinks were top notch and the bartender was so nice and knowledgeable. I had a meetup group of 9 meet here for brunch this past Saturday and though it passed the vibe check, our experience unfortunately did not. Our server had some highs and lows for us. She was courteous and even took initiative in resolving an issue with the bacon, however she also seemed to have a clear visible reaction when asked for straws, which I thought was strange. It happened on two separate occasions to two of us. When it comes to the restaurant, it gives the appearance of this cool eclectic spot..and it is, but I felt it had some holes. The courtyard is beautiful...it has greenery all about and tarps that provide shade, as well as a setup for live music. I read about there being jazz music in the past but this day it was more folk-like. My group found that though there were tarps hung for shading, they are hung sporadically and did not actually do a great job at blocking out the Sun. We started the brunch with some of us roasting on one side of the table and ended with the other side of the table roasting. More coverage would be a great addition for the restaurant. I initially was really excited for the menu but was a bit disappointed in the delivery. For one, the classic breakfast charges $4 to add meat. But when it came, it was 2 small and limp pieces of bacon. Not a great value at all. The sticky buns I was really excited for. However the whipped cream cheese was still pretty thick and the overall dish was not as sweet as I would have liked. Though others at the table loved that about them. The potatoes that come on the side were drowning in salt, it was actually a little humorous.. but also not because we were paying for them lol. I ordered the chef's choice wings which had good flavor and great presentation. I didn't taste the fish sauce nor Korean spiced flavoring but they were good. Lastly, the restaurant does not split checks past 3 cards which I thought was strange as well. I have not encountered that in Tucson and don't really understand why they choose not to accommodate guests, especially when not busy. I can understand if it's a place where it's difficult to separate checks but everyone got one thing really, some had 2 at most. It just seems like an unnecessary rule so that they can give less effort. I may return here to experience it in the evening, but I don't think the daytime is the best time to visit this restaurant. read more

The courtyard at JoJo's is a lovely spot to have a meal during the mild months, with trees, a fountain, and music filling the courtyard. The outdoor space has the obvious drawbacks you'd expect during the very hot or cold months, but it's a unique place with a lot of charm even if you're sweating a smidge during brunch. On my most recent visit, I tried the Birria Dip sandwich with tater tots. It was very good, with tender meat and excellent pickled vegetables, but I will note that I think the bread (while delicious) was a bit heavy in the bread-to-birria ratio. You could easily do the birria tacos instead, though. I also very much like the Tallboy Tots, which are a fantastic brunch option. The tots are piled high with eggs, cheese, bacon, and a really unique sauce; everything you want in an indulgent breakfast. They strike a great balance between salty, creamy, acidic, and herbaceous.
