The food does not disappoint either. For starters, we shared a Caesar salad and the tuna tartare. The tuna was divine. I ordered thr 16 ounce ribeye with brandy peppercorn sauce. The sauce complimented the steak really well, and the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. The sides included tasty red skinned mashed potatoes and Caesar Brussels sprouts. I wasn't sure what the Caesar Brussels sprouts would be, but as it turned out it's like a Caesar salad with Brussels sprouts instead of romaine. I washed the meal down with two Not So Old Fashioneds, which were classic old fashioneds with rosemary. With five-star views and food came five-star service. My risotto was very creamy and the swordfish is prepared in a way in which it had a smoky flavor. Scallops with risotto 10/10 Swordfish 10/10 Crab cakes 10/10 Wonderful wine list and cocktail options. Hubs lives a good dirty martini with stuffed blue cheese olives. He was thrilled when he was presented with 3 extra olives in the side. There is valet parking $12. Appetizer (jumbo shrimp): 8/10 because I am not a fan of fried food Paella: 8.5/10 more on the salty side, the rice is not fully cooked which is the right way to make paella in Spain, I like how they didn't cut short on the seafood tho Salmon: 10/10 the salmon is crunchy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside, the broccolini is cooked and seasoned perfectly Crème brûlée: 8/10 it has a hard brown sugar coating on the outside, but is really sweet Banana pudding: 9/10, the ice cream tastes good and it goes well with the banana bread, but get sweeter the more you eat, as the ice cream melts the banana pudding absorbs the vanilla flavor and it tastes rly good. Last night I dined at Geoffrey's because I would go years prior and it would be a pleasant experience and a nice meal but things have definitely changed. The food was absolutely mediocre everything was tasteless, dry and honestly disgusting. We got the baked Brie, steak, mashed potatoes, and a salad. The steak was the worst part, at first it was undercooked (we asked for medium well but it was almost bloody), and it was tasteless/dry. Probably one of the worst steaks I have had in a while. Valet is $12, which imo is fair because it's a beautiful slightly tucked away restaurant with such a quiet elegance and refinement, yet it was relaxed and inviting. It had an indoor bar and mostly outdoor seating on a charming deck with a stairway leading down to the beach. I only stopped by for a glass of wine before tanning but the menu looks delicious and I want to go back to a proper meal. The bar manager helped me select a glass of wine, a luscious yet slightly structured glass of 2023 Chardonnay by Far Niente in Southern Napa. It's one of the better Chardonnay's I've had this year. The steak was decent a little on the rare side (we got medium rare) but I prefer it like that. The seafood paella was okay. Not sure why I had high hopes for it as it's not a Spanish restaurant but it was FULL of peas and as I said I'm not a pea lover. Traditional paella (when we went to Spain) doesn't have peas in it so was a little disappointed but I still ate it and had a decent amount of seafood. Geoffrey's is iconic. I've been coming here since it was the Holiday House, and the view and atmosphere remain unmatched. The ocean, the sunsets, the setting, it's all still magical. The food is good. Solid. Fine. At this price point, I understand I'm paying for the location and the experience. What I don't understand is paying $400 for service that belongs in a roadside diner, not an upscale Malibu institution. The Service Was Unacceptably Bad Let me be clear: no one on staff seemed remotely interested in making our evening memorable. The prevailing attitude was, "You're here for the view, look at the ocean and be satisfied." That might work if this were a casual beachside shack, but Geoffrey's charges premium prices and should deliver premium service. It didn't. Our waiter couldn't remember our order, brought the wrong drinks and appetizers, and most bewilderingly, spent time unloading his personal problems on us, talking about how tired he was, his day, his issues. My fiancée and I were there to celebrate her birthday. Why on earth were we being pulled into his problems? We're not your therapists. We're guests trying to have a special evening. They Forgot Her Birthday, After I Told Them Twice Here's what makes this especially frustrating: I explicitly mentioned it was her birthday when I made the reservation. It was confirmed at the front desk when we arrived. They even asked, "Whose birthday is it tonight?" when we were seated. And then... nothing. No acknowledgment. No candle. No "Happy Birthday." Nothing. That's not high-end service. That's not even basic service. A Chili's would have brought out a brownie with a sparkler. Geoffrey's, sang for the table next to us and we just spent $400, and they couldn't be bothered to remember the one thing I'd told them twice. Coasting on Reputation The entire experience felt like the staff was coasting on Geoffrey's reputation. The ocean view does the heavy lifting, so why bother with professionalism, attentiveness, or creating a memorable experience? I expect a waiter who is present, engaged, and capable of delivering drinks correctly without treating our table like a therapy session or an afterthought. If you're that tired, that troubled, that checked out, don't come to work. And certainly don't ruin someone's birthday celebration because you can't muster basic professionalism. Why I Still Tipped 20% I gave a 20% tip purely out of obligation and social conditioning, not because the service remotely deserved it. That's on me. I should have tipped 10% and explained exactly why. Instead, I rewarded weak effort because I felt awkward doing otherwise. Mediocrity shouldn't be subsidized. The Food Was Fine. The Setting Still Delivers. The Service Failed Completely. Look, the food was good, not transcendent, not worth $400 on its own, but competent and well-prepared. The setting? Still one of the most beautiful in Southern California. If you want to sit on that patio, watch the sunset over the Pacific, and soak in the Geoffrey's mystique, go ahead. Just know you're paying for real estate and atmosphere, not service worthy of the price tag. 1.5 Stars for Service The service we received wasn't high end caliber, it was order-taker caliber, and just that. Forgetting a birthday you were told about twice, bringing wrong drinks, wrong appetizers and emotionally dumping on guests isn't acceptable at any restaurant, let alone one charging these prices. Geoffrey's still has everything to be exceptional. The location can't be replicated. But until the service matches the setting and the bill, I can't recommend this as a place to celebrate anything that actually matters to you. read more

Party of 10, we were all looking forward to this visit! (At least I was - and if anything, I was looking forward to that view!) And they couldn't have put us at a better spot. We were seated almost immediately at arrival (we made it on time for our reservations despite the little hiccup about parking) at one of their outdoor corners overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean. That alone made the visit so worth it! But we're here for the grub, too, so after we got done getting distracted by this fantastic scenery, we finally got it down to a few things. BAKED BRIE IN PUFF PASTRY: I think there were at least 4 orders of this on our table! All of them came out warm. Pastry was flaky, the Brie was warm and the pear chutney was a good palate cleanser. Recommending. SEASONAL OYSTERS: Hubbers and I split this, and they were freshly shucked. Only snag - there were small bit shells leftover and a couple of them weren't fully shucked. I'm guessing the kitchen may have been a bit busy. GRILLED PACIFIC SWORDFISH: My choice of main. Plating is beautiful. Fish was grilled and topped on a bed of bacon bits and sliced potato wedges (not-so hashed like the menu description stated) and topped with really fresh arugula. Generous with the size of the fish, it started off soft and flaky, but the more I got in the middle, the more it got a bit tough and dry. It was also under seasoned. (Hubbers agreed.) The jus reduction helped a bit, but not enough. [And to be honest - my first instinct was to go with the sea bass, but since there were other peeps on my table getting it and willing to share bites, I went with my second choice. (I should really follow my gut feeling!) But the few bites of sea bass I got was ON POINT! Fish was flaky, seasoning was perfect... who am I kidding: that dish was amazing!] FILET MIGNON: Hubbers main and ordered it medium rare. Boy, that plate looked good. And delicious! Now if it were prepped medium rare (vs medium as it was served) it might have been closer to perfection. (I advised Hubbers to tell them - just so they know - but he didn't wanna dampen the good mood we were all in.) Flavor was on point, though. FOOD: 3.5. SERVICE: 5. Our server and her backup were so sweet and welcoming and accommodating. No snags there. VALUE: 2. If you're on a budget, either save up or this place might not be for you. It is a bit pricey, especially for the slightly disappointing quality on our main dishes. PARKING: Valet for $15. They get really busy, I suggest allocate a few minutes for it. OVERALL: 3.5. Better than average experience overall. Food was good, but really, it's the view and (more importantly) the company that did it. Second visit? We specifically came to Escondido beach, so we could grab lunch and drinks before checking out the beach. I was wearing a halter top and capris while my boyfriend was wearing cargos and a t-shirt, but we were refused at the door due to wearing "swim attire." We weren't wearing bikinis or coverups, so I don't understand why they wouldn't let us in. We accepted that we wouldn't be able to get drinks then, but when we asked to at least use the restroom, we were then told that it was for reservations only. I know this is b.s. because I've called about this in the past and was specially told that you could go to the restaurant. I understand having rules about attire, but at least include that information on the website and be consistent with your rule. I thought they'd at least have the decency to let us use the restroom, but no, they were just rude and inconsiderate and trying to shoo us away. I will never be retuning here. read more

5/5 view on that patio, service was ok, food was mid. We visited around 5:30 on a Sunday evening, they seated us early (reservation was 6:00) at a very nice spot with good view. It took the waiter ~10 mins to come drop off the menus and another 15 mins to come get our order. We ordered drinks - which were completely forgotten and we never got them. Spicy Oysters: 2/5. Tiny in size, mostly flour, the oysters were salty and the sauce was kinda tasteless. Mussels: 4/5, good but nothing "wow". Fresh. Seafood Paella: 3/5. Tasted fine, but the shrimps weren't cleaned. The intestines were still in there filled with poop (see picture attached), kinda unacceptable for food priced like this. Parking is $15 for valet. You don't have other choice unless you're super lucky and found a spot on the street. Not worth it. Food was 2 stars at best. +1 star for the view and view only.
