I hired this company based on decent reviews on google. Little did I know these reviews on google are fake. But not on yelp. Yelp are real reviews. Little did I know this, I hired them to fix my leaking roof. I figure with good ratings, they can be trusted. (Fm google) They manage to get me to do other things I didn't need in addition to putting wrong color slates! That's another story. Btw I did hire them for the job and it leaked in 2 months. I had to call the company back and they gave me a run around) Not only that, I believe the guy I spoke to is name Vinny, he told me if I don't do the job right away in additional to the work that is needed, the price will double. My husband noticed some loose shingles and called George Parsons Roofing for an estimate.  My parents had used them before and were satisfied with their work.   We thought the estimate (replace the loose/missing shingles and replace one damaged white aluminum leader) was a bit high, but we needed the work done (before it caused any problems) so we agreed to the price. They came the following day and began the work and then told me they can't reattach the loose shingles, they had to be replaced.  (I think he said it required two bundles of shingles).  OF COURSE that meant it would be additional money - which was MORE than TWICE the price of the estimate.  (I guess because of that (as a goodwill gesture) they DID reseal the top of our chimney with tar for free). So overall... I was happy they arrived quickly to do the work, were friendly, seemed to do a good job, and cleaned up any debris caused by the shingle replacement.  However, because of the HUGE difference in the estimate versus what they originally quoted - it's doubtful I would recommend them to anyone (certainly not without warning them what happened).  I understand times are hard, money is tight (FOR ALL of US) - this just didn't sit right with me.  I gave them a VERY generous three stars. read more

I used them once in around June 2019 and their pricing and services were great at that time, however, I contacted them again for a similar roof repair issue and they were not reasonable. In around November 2019, a few shingles fell off due to high wind and I was trying to ask them to come back to give me another estimate. Took them a few days to just come to do the estimate and the price was unreasonable. According to them, there was "two" areas (each area had about 4-5 pieces of missing shingles) impacted, so the price would be doubled than what I paid for my last project. However, the two areas were literally less than a feet away from each other and the total pieces of missing shingles were about the same. I did not understand why the number of area had such a great impact on the price as they were literally right next to each other. I requested them for an explanation of the estimate, but no response. I decided to go with a company that provides me better customer services and pricing. read more

Criminal. My older parents paid close to $2400 to repair a few roof tiles over their 9x20 foot den. Absolutely criminal. That should be the cost of replacing the entire roof with fiberglass shingles. Will be contacting the town and state to file a complaint. read more

Not sure where the existing reviews are coming from - they sound questionable. I called yesterday for an appointment and was given one for earlier this afternoon. George arrived on time and gave me a competitive quote - professionally written and delivered via email a few hours after the visit. During the visits George walked me down the street explaining what my neighbors had in terms of roofing, detailing pros and cons. Where should I start a a roof done 9 years ago and I see a problem on the roof. They send this repair person and says your very old. He was told no the roof is 9 years old. George Parsons did the roof and gutter work for the previous owners of my house. The fall after we bought the house, I called to have them clean the gutters before the winter and was told it was too early and they were adding me to the list for November once the leaves finished falling. They never came or called. Fast forward to the end of winter and I called for a spring gutter cleaning and they scheduled me for the following week. They never showed up. It took a few days to get in touch with them and they said they'd schedule me for the following week. They never showed up. Not sure if they're so busy they can't take on a new customer, especially one in a house on their existing book of work, but I've since found a new company. The lack of customer service has not been appreciated. read more

About 6 months after they installed a new roof my neighbor (semi-attached house) complained that she was getting a leak from one of the areas where the 2 roofs meet that was damaging part of her inside wall. I called the Parsons office several times. The women answering the phone first said they could not find my records (which made me angry after giving them almost $11k). After I pestered them they finally found the records and said someone would come to look at it. This took about 10 days. When their person finally showed up it turns out that he was the "wrong" person and had no authority to report on such a problem. After pestering them again for about 2 weeks the office referred me to "Mr. G.", who I assume is the "G" in G. Parsons. After repeated conversations with him, they sent out somebody to repair the roof. The repair job took a few hours, meaning to me that there was indeed a real problem. However, he refused to repair the damage to my neighbor's inside walls. I therefore would tell people to be very wary of these people. There are many other roofers. As a followup, 4 months after the problem with my neighbor's walls, I received another call from Mr. G, followed up by a call form George, the owner of the company. This time they were very efficient in sending out somebody to repair my neighbor's damage and they did an excellent job. They also reimbursed me for a Chinese pot that their workers had damaged when they replaced the roof. So it seems they have improved their internal communications and are taking responsibility for any problems that might come up. read more

After finally getting someone to see my house to replace 2 slate tiles, i was given a quote for 40! Just so happens that these tiles were somewhere i could not see (but how did they see it when they didn't use a ladder to inspect my roof) I got suckered into doing it all. When the roofers came to do the job, they ruined my gutters! After everything, i still need more tiles replaced (that I can see) and now I need a new gutter! CROOKS!! BEWARE!! read more

I have used George Parsons for slate roof repair in the past and had several dealings with George too. George is just a slate salesman with little interest in slate. He will always inspect your roof from the ground and never on the roof itself. His estimate is most times be off, because he only inspects from street level and never from the top of the roof. This causes a problem because inevitably the workers will find additional issues and with their limited English they are not able to fully describe/articulate the actual issue they see with the roof. Basically, they keep their 'A team' in Long Island and send their 'B team' to NYC I have had problems with them in the past. I too thought they were doing a great job, until I found out otherwise by doing research on Slate Roofs. In general, they are just not installing the slates correctly or using the correct nails. They will nail in copper ridges when they should be using cleats. They will use tar and silicone when they shouldn't. They used that on me to cover cracked and broken tiles rather than replace the broken tiles. They did this rather than explain to me the issue (limited English). And if they had asked me I would have said, Yes, go ahead and replace those tiles. The other Big issue is that they WALK on the slate roof. If you research this, true slate roofers will NEVER walk on your slate roof, unless under dire circumstances, walk on your roof. If you want your slate roof repaired I would not use George Parsons as you will have issues further down the road. All that walking will eventually loosen the slates from the roof and then the cycle continues where you have them come back to repair issues of their own creation. "Contractors walking on the slate: This is one of the worst problems with new slate roof installations. Roof slate is not to be walked on -- period. It is not a floor that is being installed -- it is a roof. The slate roof must be properly staged so the roofers are working off roof ladders and roof scaffolds. Here is a video showing how to use roof brackets on a slate roof. If the contractors are walking all over the slate roof during installation, it's because they don't know what the hell they're doing and the property owner will have many headaches later when the slates start falling off. This is a guarantee. Good slaters knows how to install slate, and they won't walk on a slate roof unless it's a last resort in an unusual circumstance." If you have a slate roof, you need to be responsible and read up on slate roof at ww.traditionalroofing.com/TR4_mistakes.html or search and read the 'Slate Roof Bible' to understand the proper method for slate repair. Slate roof repair is super expensive and you should know what you are paying for. i am still searching for a slate roofer and thus far have not found one yet. Good Luck to us. 'Poor sheathing materials: The roof decking must last as long as the slate. A good roof deck should last the life of two slate roofs, or about 200 to 300 years. In any case, a roof decking material under slate must have a known longevity of at least 150 years. Materials that have been tried and proven for this purpose include lumber boards and battens from 3/4 inch to 1.5 inch thick rough-sawn, planed or tongue-in-grooved, from a variety of species of wood. Plywood, laminated woods, particle boards, and materials that rely on glue for structural integrity are sub-standard roof decking materials for slate roofs and should be avoided. Yes, you can install slate on laminated or glued decking materials, but a compromise on longevity is likely to be the result. If a slate roof is to be built to last, the roof deck should be solid boards, not glued sheets of wood.' read more

Used them a few years ago to repair leak in my slate roof. At that time they were very honest, reliable, did great work & I recommended them to several friends. Currently having another issue with my roof, called them 3 weekdays in a row, left messages, contact numbers & never received a return call. On the 4th day, I actually spoke to someone & made appointment. Well, they never came! Called them twice, left message & contact numbers again & they never answered! To not return calls on several different days, then not show for appointment is unprofessional & disrespectful. So disappointed in this company. Seems they are living on their past reputation. I would not recommend them. I called for an estimate during the summer to replace a few tiles on a slate roof. They were responsive and came in and did the job as agreed. George followed up with me a few days later and when I expressed that everything went fine, he requested that I leave a review. fast forward a week later and I notice a leak right where they replaced a few tiles. I didn't have a leak before I hire them for the job. It only showed up after they replaced the tiles. I called the office over five times and every time I call they get amnesia, claim that manager is out sick, and promise that they will get back to me. I used George Parsons Roofing to fix leaks on my slate roof in Jamaica. They came very highly recommended by several friends of friends. Shortly after the comprehensive repair, I did spot a leak that appeared to not have been repaired. It took them a while to come back to make sure everything was sound and secure but I guess that was due to the fact that they had too many jobs to deal with for the summer.
