This is a fresh, bright and airy beach cafe right on 30a in Alys. Whitewashed walls, pale wood floors, mirrors framed in driftwood, busy ceiling fans and cheerful music all set the stage for a relaxed lunch. The menu offers an impressive set of options, organized by a "Behave" section and another for "Misbehave". You won't go wrong at either side. I had grilled fish tacos, my husband had a grilled grouper salad, and our little guy had a fried shrimp basket. Wine list - excellent - I loved the crisp French rose, and my husband had Sauvignon Blanc that was wonderful and well priced. Scrumptious key lime pie rounded out the meal. Sadly, this was our last visit to George's . Always an annual favorite until now. The menu no longer contains any chicken dishes. When asked to sub the fish market salad with chicken, I heard an enthusiastic "no problem" but when the bill came, I was charged the full fish market price ($24) for a portion the size of a side salad with chicken. The manager refused to adjust the bill. I'm appalled that an adjustment was refused. Please listen to your customers and treat them respectfully. read more

George's had been recommended to me by a friend, and the menu looked amazing. My friend and I went last night around 5:30pm and sat outside. It was slightly chilly, but they had the tall heaters right next to tables, which made it more comfortable. Our waitress was so kind, and was knowledge about the menu giving great feedback. I ordered the grilled snapper with pineapple salsa and black rice. It was delicious and flavored so well - not super fishy tasting and just right. My friend had the filet mignon, which I tasted a bite of - also a winner! When we looked over the dessert menu, we knew we were going to have to splurge. I ordered the warm chocolate toffee goo... oh my gosh - melt in your mouth good! The warm chocolate paired with the cold ice cream was the perfect combination. My friend got a slice of key lime pie and it was so good. The crust was amazing! The atmosphere at George's is really fun. It's casual, but also very nice. The staff were all friendly and were constantly refilling water glasses, clearing away plates, and checking on us. Good food & great service - great combo! Pretty disappointing experience on our most recent go 'round here. Our server, who was awkward at best, completely messed up my order. Brought the wrong thing. I sat there for five minutes before someone even noticed, and it wasn't our server. Shout out to the guy in the green shirt who actually took care of getting my food remade. I was relieved because what showed up in front of me was room temperature at best. Wonder how long it had been sitting there. Our server never apologized or even acknowledged the incident and barely returned until the end of the meal. At $100+ for two people, can't you guys do better? Let me start with the positive. My wife loved her grouper fish tacos. And that is about it... The restaurant was not at capacity (i.e. they weren't in the weeds). Despite this fact, we had to get up and request that our waitress take our order. From a customer service perspective, it is hard to recover when that is your first impression. I ordered the famous fried grouper sandwich. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it was bun, tartar sauce (or something close), lettuce, tomato and fried...fried. The amount of fish was negligible and the actual flavor wasn't terribly different than McDonald's fish filet sandwich. I literally have no idea how a $20 McFish sandwich has become famous in these parts. Perhaps it was an outlier, but I can only characterize our visit to George's as disappointing. read more

We have come to George's for lunch twice. The first time we got in right away, but the second time we did have to wait for around thirty minutes. You can order a drink at the hostess stand while you wait, which is nice, and there are plenty of places outside or upstairs to wait. It can get a little toasty in the non-shaded sections though, so be prepared! We love the DAB and sesame crab salads. Unfortunately they ran out of the ingredients for the lobster roll and my dad had to get the grouper sandwich instead (which was still really good). We got there right as it opened and instead of rushing everyone in, they sat people in different server sections and took each group with a small amount of time in between to allow servers time to get to each group promptly once they sat, allow for better service. After reading reviews we expected an outstanding meal. We were truly underwhelmed with our meal. The wedge salad was three pieces of iceberg lettuce with minimal dressing on top for $14! We mentioned something to our waitress who said something about it being modified and everyone has their own versions. The "pre-made cocktails" were disappointing for $15?!?! There were only 4 choices and pre-made? I would expect better quality for that price and would not have ordered if I had asked the price ahead of time. The ribeye was ladled in a sauce and over salted to probably cover up how poor the quality was for $45. The haricot verts were good and the twice baked potato was average at best. The rigatoni had very little sauce, the pasta was over cooked and the meatballs were dry and well done. They meatballs had a decent taste, but were not epic because of how they had been cooked. There was no point in saying anything to our waitress again at this point because she dismissed our comments on the salad. We said to ourselves that maybe we should have tried the shrimp they are known for, but at these prices, all of the food should be stellar. We come and stay at rosemary beach every year and we eat at George's at least twice every time. This year I even picked up some to go key lime pie for a "late night" dessert! Last night our family of 5 waited an hour (average for summer months) Service & food are just meh for the price now. Waitress was busy & uninterested. When my husband asked about the grits when picking his sides her response was "they're grits" I ordered the scallops + risotto (one of the most expensive entrees) when it arrived the risotto was crunchy & undercooked and the scallops were barely warm. They took it back. Didn't help much. Risotto was a little better not great, scallops were seared but not even warm in the center. Barely apologized. Family was all done eating except me. My husbands shrimp plate was basic. There are too many other delicious (and pricey) restaurants in this area now for mediocre $$$ dining. We've had good meals here but not sure we'll come back. *also the lunch menu seems much better than the dinner one now. read more

Ate here Friday 6/19, we started off with the calamari fries as an appetizer. I'm not usually a big calamari fan but these were delicious and I found myself eating more than my fair share. The remoulade sauce they come with is an excellent touch. For dinner I got the seafood combo platter. I chose the mahi grilled with fried shrimp. It came with cheese grits for a side. My cousin got the salt and pepper shrimp and raves about it! We both loved our meals and would go back next time we are down that way. The patio was nice and the service was great too! I was on a girls trip and we decided on George's (as a second choice) to only be disappointed upon arrival. When we asked for a table, we were basically asked to leave because they closed in two hours and they didn't know if we could get our orders in in time. We had two friends that were running late and they made us promise we would get our orders in by 8:30 (they closed at 9) before they would seat us. Our food was OK (the tuna was dry and snapper was disappointing) but that isn't what pushed us off the edge. Our waiter was kind until his boss told him she didn't like us. When it was time to leave, he didn't ask us how we wanted to pay. He put 10 girls on one ticket. This is fine. We ask him if there is any other way to split it and he said "well, when you split 4 bottles of wine, someone is bound to get screwed." His boss is watching the entire time. He says "I hope y'all have a great night" and a friend said "it hasn't been that great." He responds, "and that's why y'all don't understand splitting a ticket." Proof of disrespect and arrogance. I would never write a review negatively if I didn't feel passionately about this experience. We tried to have a conversation at the end about their rude service and they blamed it on "Covid making it a slow time and it's really busy right now."
