For both of us, it was over cooked and dry. The crawfish etouffee was bland and side of sweet potatoes were merely ok. One friend had a pasta dish that was satisfactory. Another had the salt and pepper shrimp, also satisfactory. And the last dish ordered was steak, which was cooked longer than requested, but barely acceptable. The wait staff was quite busy, which is understandable. In spite of that, our server was good. All of these things added up to a so-so experience, which was less than I expected, because it has been stellar in the past. I actually regretted our choice to go there. Whatever you do, DON'T LEAVE WITHOUT EATING THE GOO. A group went to dinner at George's last week and loved it. We ordered the avocado and crab flatbread for the table and was underwhelmed by the flavor combination. Food was great. Could have done without the 30 minutes wait outside when the restaurant opened. There were plenty of tables but the manager didn't want to "overload the kitchen". So their method for doing that is leaving customers out in the cold so that orders are staggered for the kitchen. When asked if our four kids could just sit at one of the open tables and not order, we were told by the manager that he knows how to best manage the kitchen and if we didn't like it, we could leave. read more

This was my favorite meal on vacation. The patio area is very nice and inside is upscale cozy/beachy, very classy. Our server, Melissa, gave us some ideas about what was popular and delicious. We followed her lead and got the lobster quesadilla, which was amazing. The flavors went together perfectly and there was plenty of lobster. The fruit salsa is mostly pineapple and it's topped with cilantro, so good! We got the Spicy Salt and Pepper Shrimp and the Jerk Crusted Snapper. They were both phenomenal with a lot of interesting flavor combos. I would definitely order both meals again. I wanted to go back during the trip but there's always next year! read more

I had the ribeye medium rare and it has great flavor but was over cooked. I mentioned it to the waiter and the manager came and addressed the situation. He brought me out the spicy shrimp and it was so so good! I'm so glad he promptly addressed it and he was also super personable. Great place! Food was delicious and the atmosphere, amazing! My co-worker and I first went for lunch after getting into town then returned a few days later for dinner. We waited about 30 minutes for dinner but enjoyed a cocktail on the roof in the meantime. We sat outside on the lawn and it was perfect. The food isn't much to write home about. If you are staying in Seaside it's definitely not worth the drive. On our family vacation we decided to go to Georges - We own a home in Seagrove and it is a regular favorite of ours. (In fact we live very near the brook haven pub in Memphis which is another one of the Spells' restaurants that we also go to on a regular basis) We went to their website where it indicated they do not take reservations but are open until 9PM. We all got dressed and hired an Uber to take us all. When we walked in at 7:50PM the hostess would not greet us - after several moments of awkwardness. My wife said - excuse me are you the hostess. She responded by saying "Yes I am". Nothing else - I thought how odd it was that she would not ask us if she could help us - So I explained we have 4 people that would like to have dinner. She then smiled and said we don't serve anyone after 7:45. I explained that nothing on their website indicated that and we didn't have a car and would really appreciate it if she could make an exception. She smiled again and said she could not but if "We wanted to walk 30 mins up the road to rosemary there would be some places open". WHAT???? She was very rude and smug!!!! I remained calm and pleaded with her but she refused. There is nothing on George's web site indicating a 7:45 cutoff and what's the point of saying you close at 9? - So we shelled out money for a ride to get treated like that and to top it off to do it so rudely - no greeting, no apology, no emapathy, no offer to help us - take a hike - she was very ugly to us! read more

We loved George's so much. Our 1st meal was Saturday night. My husband had the Jerked snapper and I had the most beautiful vegan meal I've ever had at the beach. We had to return for our last meal before heading home. This time, he had the grouper sandwich, which he loved and I had the tomato/watermelon salad with grilled grouper. It was out of this world. Service was top notch both visits, everyone there went out of their way to make our meals special. We really enjoyed talking to the owner, Ann. She couldn't have been sweeter. Wanting to get out of Destin for the day..away from fried everything and tables with crayons, George's at Alys Beach was a hit. Sat outside in the heat of the day under a nice umbrella and had a meal that's typically served at an A+ rated spa. Portobello and crab cake stack over mixed greens and fresh yellow summer tomatoes. Salmon and fresh ginger, wasabi grits (yes...wasabi) over a bed of mixed greens all paired with a decently priced pinot grigio. Meal of the trip! Keep it up!! Told by multiple people to check out George's. We walked in about 1:50pm or so and it wasn't too busy. Hosts were very friendly. The server on the other hand wasn't good or friendly at all. I can look past a Crappy server but that wasn't the only issue. I got the lobster quesadilla. It was good not great. My girlfriend got a power wrap and I got the tuna poke wraps for our entree. Both were not good. On top of that, it took our food about 40 minutes to come out. All in all, it wasn't a good experience. We had to wait about 2 hours for a table (they don't take reservations), but we walked over the Neat next door and passed the time with a couple of drinks. While the web site claims it's casual, eating dinner there with the summer crowd will prove another scene. George's attracts vacationers from the near-by notoriously upscale villages of 30-A. The dinner entre menu is creatively broken up into to categories: behave and misbehave. "Behave" foods are organic and contain natural ingredients. If you chose to "misbehave" you might order something from the grill like the delicious fish tacos which came with a yummy pico. I behaved and ordered the cashew crusted chicken breast. It was served with veggies and steamed baby bok choy. The serving sizes were perfect (I was satisfied, but not full), and everything was cooked superbly. The wait service was attentive knowledgeable, and the food came out within a reasonable time considering the size of the crowd. We waited for a table outside on the patio so we could enjoy the warm sea breeze and....bugs. Yes! I got eaten up. Thankfully, management had an extra can of bug spray I graciously took advantage of. The natural surroundings are a bit marshy, so if you plan on sitting outside, maybe think about bringing some repellent. I definitely plan on going back! read more

I am so sad to write this review but we were treated so poorly, it needs to be said. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:15 (they open at 5). We requested a table for 2 outside and were told they were full and that it would at least an hour and a half wait. The hostess then said she could seat us inside right away, after explaining the we weren't comfortable sitting inside, she took it as a personal attack on her restaurant and went on about all their procedures. I told her while I appreciated everything they were doing, it just wasn't something we were comfortable with. She then (very loudly and rudely) chastised us for not getting their early enough and basically said it was our own fault They had literally opened fifteen minutes ago!! It was so condescending and rude, I was honestly shocked as we have been here before and had wonderful experiences. I'm hoping this is an isolated incident because there are far too many places in the area to spend your money and with employees like this, you'll be chasing people away. read more

I was anxious to try George's after reading all the wonderful reviews. However, I had a very mixed experience -- twice. Our party of four went for lunch earlier this week and received a very UNWELCOMING reception from the hostess on duty when we arrived at noon. I had called ahead to ensure that the restaurant offered outdoor seating, and when we arrived, I asked to be seated outside (pre-existing condition during the COVID-19 era). When our name came up we were led indoors, and I told the hostess I wasn't comfortable dining inside. She said they wouldn't be opening the side patio until 2:00 (evidently it had rained at some point in the morning although all we saw was sunshine), and the porch seating was full. She said "Well, we never guarantee outside, so it's whatever opens up. We only have inside dining." I told her I saw the staff drying the chairs on the side patio and asked to wait for a table outdoors. She insisted they weren't opening the side patio for a couple of hours. Fortunately, a manager or someone in a position of authority, heard her response and interjected, saying he'd be more than willing to accommodate us. Sure enough -- they opened the patio in just a matter of minutes and the tables were full in no time. We enjoyed THE BEST fish tacos and fish sandwiches -- so good that I was able to overlook the poor customer service. And so good that we decided to return tonight (8/13) for dinner. We arrived at 5:30 pm and -- you guessed it -- the same rude hostess was on duty. I put our name in, asked to be seated on the side patio, and she points to the sign saying that "it's indoor/outdoor -- whatever opens first". Again, I said that due to my pre-existing condition, I was only comfortable sitting outside and that I was happy to wait. She said she could not guarantee me outside seating. Really? I said I'd wait ... 'til whatever time it took ... 6 pm, 7 pm, 8 pm. She made no effort at all, or even say she'd TRY to accommodate us. Ridiculous. But again, our food was great (sea bass, mahi mahi, and great wine and desserts). So, while the food was wonderful, and the rest of the staff we encountered was superb, the hostess was anything but accommodating. It's good to see people supporting local business, but I could only think that George's must not need the business based on the unwelcoming reception we received both times this week. Take note, please. You have a great establishment. Don't let the initial reception spoil the deal. Based on my two experiences this week, I would not return. read more

Very good! We had a wonderful experience. We arrived around 530 or 6 and had no trouble being seated on the beautiful patio -- the waitstaff was so accommodating to the member of our party with a wheelchair, too, guiding us to an easily accessible table and parking space. The food was great! I had the grouper tacos while others had the shrimp bowls and word fish (catch of the day.) it was all very reasonably priced, too . With three kids in tow, that took out pizza, quesadillas, pasta, etc. Basically we were stuck with Chicken fingers. They were actually pretty good, but I had to sell that kids. They attempted the pasta, with no cheese. Come on chef, improvise. It was straight boiled pasta with a little butter. Disappointing... 3rd. The appetizer. Had the trio dips. Mainly because it said it was served with naan. It was Pita! Not Naan! Very disappointing. Bright spot, we asked for more naan (pitas) because there was so little served with the dips. Bad spot, they charged for it! 4th. The entrees! I had the rock shrimp. It was a big plate of fried shrimp with batter. It was a bang bang shrimp batter (corn starch) with a flavor that got old quick. After 2 or 3 they just weren't exciting. The slaw was served warm and rice was horribly bland. The whole thing just didn't work as an entree. Maybe this should be moved to an app? My wife had a wood fired shrimp. They were grilled shrimp with old bay seasoning. Not much effort here. Served with Fries? Yikes... I don't give 2 star reviews lightly. Location won't make up for a bad experience. Especially for 100 bucks. So sorry.
