george's is always on my list when visiting 30a. to me, it's the best of what casual beach dining is about. love how the menu is set-up to either 'behave or mis-behave'. owner ann hartley is often manning the floor; you can tell her eyes are on everything that happens here. thankfully, the covered dining space has been enlarged. the dab salad with a glass or two of wine makes for a great meal to while away the afternoon. fyi, no reservations and the early dinner wait can be long. same owners as sea grove village market & la cocina in rosemary beach. read more

Awful!! 0/10 recommend. I ordered a spinach salad that was supposed to come with a bunch of stuff on it and there was barely any! They basically dumped a box of spinach into a bowl and tossed a few other things in there. I decided to give them another chance when I ordered their pasta dish with added chicken. Awful. We have owned property in Panama city beach since 2003 and have been regulars at George's for at least 10 years. It has been our favorite restaurant hands down and we have dined there 3-4x every visit 6-9x per year. Our most recent trip we dined there 3x and for the first time we were very disappointed. Our waitress was very inattentive and unemphathetic. Georges fried oysters are usually the best in town. This time my fried oysters were full of shell fragments, and so greasy (laying in a puddle of grease) that I later got sick from eating a few of them. I told my waitress and asked for some paper napkins to try and sop up some of the grease, but it didn't help. When she took my plate, She didn't ask if everything was all right eventhough she could see my almost full plate. I had only eaten 3 of the very generous portion of oysters. My daughter had the always excellent fish tacos, and her side of black beans had large clumps of overcooked congealed beans obviously scraped from the bottom of the pan mixed in.yuk! Never thought I'd be giving a poor review to georges.Hope they will see this and correct the problems or we won't be going there anymore.I want my George's back! We had a party of 4. There was a 20 min. long line to just put your name on the list because they "ran out of pagers" ?? Not sure how you do that. Then, we waited two hours for a table. They had a mini bar you could enjoy while you waited, but, surprise surprise, it had a never ending line as well & only served beer and wine. No cocktails, no soft drinks. The ambiance was very nice while we sat outside. It's a very cute courtyard looking area. The kids mac & cheese was very good. The side of fries were gross. The scallops were good, but there are a very few amount for what you pay. The swordfish special was good, but the vichyssoise took away from the steak texture that swordfish is known for, so this meal didn't make it to GREAT on the rankings. The fruity pebble ice cream sandwiches & the chocolate goo were AMAZING--10/10 for desert! We would return, but try to avoid the high crowd times!! read more

Everyone always talks about eating here and the timing was always bad, so I was super excited to finally be kid free for a date night last week. I was very disappointed.... the hostess, and our waitress were great, but the food was really blah. I'll probably go back and give it another try, maybe I ordered the wrong thing... honestly though, there wasn't much to the menu. And it's kind of a rip off for what you get; I'm not cheap either. So VERY disappointed in George's tonight. We've had several wonderful meals here in the past but tonight wasn't one of them. Everything seemed rushed and it was only after we were seated that we learned the restaurant would close early for Halloween. Seriously? From that point on it was how quickly could our server process our orders and get us out of the restaurant. The wedge salad was uninspired and sadly lacking. My wife's blackened grouper was overcooked. My scallop dish was satisfactory. We finished our dinner in record time and left before they locked the doors behind us. When I was in the area, we ate there twice: once for dinner and once for lunch. The place is cute, the service was great, and the owner is so nice. She walked around making sure everyone was ok and even took a picture of our group for us. She was very sweet. I was very disappointed in my food, however. My fried grouper was basically just batter, and my crab salad for lunch was doused in a salty, sesame dressing. The fried goat cheese app was quite delicious though. I ordered the lobster quesadillas due to the numerous reviews praising it on Yelp - it didn't disappoint! If you're not incredibly hungry, it can be split between two people. Other people in my party ordered the Abundance bowl (which they praised as the best salad they've ever eaten) and the burger. This was my first dinner in 30A, I chose it based on the yelp reviews and proximity to the shops and the beach. My friend and I ordered the mussels and calamari for apps, and the salt and pepper shrimp for a shared entree. The food was amazing! The flavors in the entree were so unique and interesting, I was very impressed. My 3 star review goes to the service and the prices. Our server took a really long time to come to our table initially, she never introduced herself, made any attempt at conversation, or explained the menu or specials to us. The large party table that was seated directly next to us was treated very differently. They were also incredibly loud and obnoxious and were unfortunately so close that we couldn't maintain a conversation of our own. Keep in mind, this was close to their closing time and there was plenty of open seating everywhere else in the restaurant. My other complaint is with the price. My yelp app listed this as a $$ restaurant. This was definitely fake news. This should have been advertised as at least a $$$. I will for sure be finding more affordable places for the rest of my vacation. read more

Loved our meal at George's. We went on a day the patio was closed due to storms so unfortunately our group of six had to be split to be seated immediately, but we were at adjacent tables so not a big deal. Service was excellent, food was delicious. My scallops were perfectly cooked and like slicing through butter (so many places over cook them). Hubs had the spicy shrimp dish- it was also very tasty. My kids had the fish and shrimp baskets and devoured every bit of them. Can't wait to go back in better weather to enjoy the patio & sunset. read more

Generally, the food is the most important aspect of the experience and at George's it was undeniably good, but not stellar. My oyster po-boy my wife's grouper sandwich were both was well executed but nothing especially memorable. The fries that came with my meal appeared to be the typical un-homemade, battered and seasoned fries from Sysco. The cole slaw was fresh, though not special. The building, at the same time quaint and modern, was consistent with the Alys Beach aesthetic. However, the service was quite chaotic. We had to wait approximately 1/2 hour for a table when there were a number of table that had been vacated but not cleaned and re-set. It is understandable they were busy on a Labor day weekend but the problem was exacerbated by a lack of organization. Once seated, next to the hostess stand, we waited 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order. When I asked a question about a particular wine on the menu, the waiter replied: "sorry, I am not a wine guy". The honesty was appreciated but he did not resolve the issue by finding someone that was knowledgable. Lastly, I would not normally comment about pricing as you usually know what you in for when before you go by looking at menus on-line, etc. However, the wine by-the-glass pricing is really aggressive, probably by 50% over what I would expect. Most of the wines we were interested in were $12-14 / glass. These prices are to be expected in major urban areas with high rents and labor cost but the panhandle of Florida is not NYC and the wines, while decent, did not justify the expense. To put it in perspective the grouper sandwich was $11 and my wife's Sancerre was $14. A beer, Red Stripe, was on the higher side of reasonable at $5. The hostess mentioned they planned to expand significantly next year so that may alleviate the wait times but will probably mean more indifferent service, and higher prices for those that enjoy a beverage with their meal. read more

We have been to George's twice and have had a wonderful experience both times. On our last visit my husband and I split the steak. It was delicious and plenty big to split. They split it in the kitchen and it was only a $4 fee to do so. My mother had the fish tacos and they were excellent. The only complaint is that beans tasted canned. We had children with us and they were very accommodating towards them. They brought their food out a soon as it was ready so they would be busy and happy. My one tip would be to make sure you go expecting to wait a while and go on a pretty day/night so you can set outside. Their is not a lot of indoor waiting so it's best to go when you can wait outside. read more

We really wanted to love this place. The location is very pretty. It has a good vibe. The reviews are mostly great and the wait was 45 minutes (which means people are willing to wait) so we had high expectations. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. We started with a "nosh" plate that had three decent helpings of different dips/crudités with grilled pita. The hummus (not traditional chick pea but something else I can't recall) was okay. Definitely the best of the 3. There was a feta dip that was unforgettable and some sort of green pea thing that looked like edamame but wasn't. Really the grilled pita was the best thing on the plate. Wife had the tomato, watermelon and feta salad which was quite good. By far the beat thing I ate all night. I had the "wedge" of romaine with green goddess dressing. Dressing was good but the salad was small and nothing special. I had the halibut for my entree. It was the daily special. Served grilled, very simple with some red peas. It was okay but really devoid of any taste. There's a way to grill fish simply but get the most flavor out of it. They didn't. It also looked unappetizing on the plate, like it had been sitting for a few minutes before being served instead of coming right off the grill. It just looked sad. Wife had the vegetable platter. Not much to say here...it's vegetables. They were fine bit nothing special. Mushroom ravioli were pretty tasty. The kids menu is small but that's okay. Shrimp basket, homemade chicken fingers (which I'll get to in a second), mac and cheese and something else. Both kids ordered the homemade chicken fingers with "George's famous fries". Now, I appreciate "haute" cuisine, but I'm also a sucker for fast, finger food done right. And I love homemade chicken fingers. Unfortunately, despite What was advertised on the menu these were not homemade, instead they came straight from the freezer (the same one as at the awful Pickles restaurant down 30A--see my review). The kids didn't even eat them. I mentioned to the waitress that it wasn't a big deal but they shouldn't say the fingers are homemade when they clearly are frozen. Two minutes later the chef came out and apologized and admitted they were frozen. I actually really appreciated that. He said he was new to the restaurant and basically inherited the menu and everything else and was in the process of sourcing local ingredients and that the menu will be changing, and the finger thing will be addressed. At that point my wife and I decided that if we returned to Rosemary Bech we'd give George's another try despite this experience, on the strength of the chef's classy move alone. However, when the check came they left the two orders of frozen chicken fingers on the tab (at $11 each). I don't blame the chef--that's front of the house and they should know better. Anyway, we were all set to try their other restaurant La Cochina (a Mexican place) but we will be skipping that one, too. Service was not good either. Waitress disappeared after taking our order. I think she had a 10 top outside. Not necessarily her fault but just another indication that this restaurant has a long way to go. read more

Extremely over priced. Had the pork chop, if asked to describe it, the shoe leather analogy is the first thing that comes to mind. The only discernible taste was that of the charcoal, as if the chop was dropped in the coals. We visited George's a few years ago and had a pretty good experience. Thought we would go again and take our friends who joined us for our week at the beach. We had really talked the place up, especially the chocolate goo dessert which we remember being amazing!! Since they don't take reservations my husband and I left a few minutes before our kids and friends so we could get in line at 4:30. By the time they open for dinner at 5 pm, the line is wrapped around the building. They started seating before the rest of our party got there. They won't seat you unless your whole party is there. My kids texted that they were "pulling in" so I assumed they meant the parking lot which is what I told the hostess. They had actually just pulled on to 30A at Rosemary so were further down than I thought. The manager accused us of lying to him as the rest of our party took 5 minutes to make their way in. He said it loud and it was rather embarrassing as all the people in the line behind us heard him interacting with us. That kinda put a bad taste in my mouth for the evening. I get that these places are tired of tourists but really? Fortunately our kids made it in before all the tables were given away. The server was very good and made good recommendations for the kids on what they would like. Nobody's food was 5 star but it was all pretty good. My grilled shrimp was over cooked and the grits were bland. After our meal we ordered 3 orders of chocolate goo, (at $12 a pop that was quite an investment). We remember this decadent, warm gooey desert, but this time it was such a disappointment. It was not warm at all. It was crunchy and tasted a little stale. After raving about this dessert to our friends, we were pretty embarrassed (again)!!! Based on our experience 2 years ago we've recommended this place to many people, but never again. Forgive me, foodies, but I just don't get it... 4 stars for less than mediocre food? Is there any hope for this area? No, seriously. Does any food place here even need to try entering a food competition? Or any newer establishment that opens here always feels obligated to serve food as bad if not worse as the Waffle house joint (which, by the way, is not too far from George's)? Well, we gave this place enough tries for me to write this review. Where do I start? Famous grouper sandwich?! Go to Sandbar, go to any place where all the tourists go and you get a better grouper sandwich for less. My poor husband couldn't eat his fish tacos. Usually he takes a positive stand, especially when it is him who chooses a place but this time he literally was choking on fish bones and couldn't understand the bean sauce the bony pieces of fish were part of. And he is NOT a picky eater! The tortilla was stale. Very limited selection of good wines. That weekend our friends joined us for lunch and we brought them to this place! We couldn't wait to leave. And that was our second visit. The first one was as painful as the last one. Some appetizers we couldn't eat and raw (unbaked) dessert. Way overpriced for the quality of food they are serving. I understand: good location, right on 30-A, close to Rosemary, in buzzing Alys' backyard but that should not interfere with an honest review on the quality of food. It is unfortunate that a neighborhood cafe did not turn out to be so 'neighborly'. Hey, I am just saying. And if you like the place and ready to stand in line to get in to eat flavorless, overpriced food, please go in. We'll stay out of your way. read more

Have to say I did not have the dining experience everyone else seems to have had at this establishment. We were seated very quickly on the lovely deck. Light on our umbrella didn't work, and only one candle on the table. All other tables had two candles, so table was a little dark. Ordered the three Mediterranean dips and they were good, but we had to ask for more naan bread as we still had a lot of dips left. Again, bread all gone, dips left. I ordered the paella, and it was not paella. Basically it was a tomato-based broth with seafood in it and a scoop of mushy, stuck-together rice on top of it. It didn't taste too bad, but definitely not paella. Son-in-law had the fish tacos and said they were unusual, but tasty. Hubby had ribeye and said it was very good. Friend loved her scallops, so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. Did not order dessert as some of them were $9.00! That's a little pricey, me thinks. I would probably try it again and order something else. At the least, waiter should tell diners it is not a regular paella when they order it. Appetizers run $9-21, salads $10, dinners from $19 for fish tacos to upper 30's for surf and turf. read more

It is very loud. The atmosphere is too casual to warrant the prices of the food $$$. Our experience was not good. My husband called ahead of time to make sure that they had Gluten Free options. The manager said he had no idea what we were talking about. He then looked at the menu and said, "oh, it says we have gluten free options." We got there and ordered food. They do have GF options listed on their menu but some are NOT GF. Please ask a lot of questions. Their fried things (listed as GF) are fried in the same oil as floured, battered items. Definitely NOT GF. I made sure to talk to the manager to tell him that if they list things as GF on their menu that they absolutely have to KNOW what is GF. I think a lot of restaurants think it is a fad and that is why they do it. They have no idea that a Gluten Allergy, known as Celiac disease is a serious thing. It is NOT a fad. It is NOT a choice. If you have a gluten allergy be extra careful here. Ask many questions of the wait staff. Talk to the manager. I hope he updated the menu or changed the kitchen to be more GF. read more

Completely agree with review from Tory B. My family was hoping to have a relaxing dinner. Instead we sat in awe due to the unbelievable noise level which left us unable to communicate with each other or our server. The noise was beyond what I would expect in most college bars. The food was OK but impossible to enjoy with my head pounding. The manager heard about it from us and several of the other patrons. She did nothing. They are obviously more concerned with total revenue than the individual experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone, but especially not if you are looking for a relaxing, quiet atmosphere! read more

Whenever I see great reviews in this area, I always tend to take them with a grain of salt since considering the limited options for a nice, non-chain restaurant. However, George's food and service were fantastic. Rick our server went above and beyond to make our party feel welcome; we were even the VERY last table to leave and he was beyond nice about it. We enjoyed this place for lunch a few times when in visiting the area. We went for dinner a few weeks ago and it was terrible! Fried mushy "crab" cakes which had no crab taste and a "cioppino" which was the worst take on this dish I have ever had. No seasoning, tomato paste, charred overcooked seafood. Absolutely terrible.
