Great spot for a quick bite! My partner and I had brunch after visiting the memorial - we were sat quickly, and our order came quick too. Would have loved to order more food but the server (Roberto) did not check-in after the meal was delivered. Still delicious - I had the croissant French toast and it was a perfect brunch item. It also came with this delicious cinnamon mouse (which was a nice surprise, as it wasn't listed on the menu). My partner's classic items were okay, but the eggs weren't well prepared. Mold in the Pound Cake and bad attitude. Just ordered online and I received diner. The rest of the items were ok but the Pound cake was with mold. I called and instead of receiving an apologize or excuse, the lady first questioned my judment saying that she had the same cake in hand. I had to call three times because she hang up the phone twice. What a poor service and education! This place has the feel of a standard NYC diner. Solid breakfast food; not earth shattering, but good, and BIG portions.

Right across the street from Springhill Suites. We had breakfast there on Easter after early service. It was very busy, but we only waited for five minutes for a party of six. We did sit very close to others, however I didn't mind because we carried a conversation. Breakfast food was a little pricey. $15 for Eggs Benedict. Had a gyro last night & decided to go for something more substantial tonight. I have been eyeballing George's for years & decided to stop in tonight. Very good experience: the food was good & I am stuffed. It was tough figuring out what I wanted because the menu has a little bit of everything. I decided on the French onion soup & George's Creation in the Signature Sandwiches section. As it turned out I didn't really need the soup because the sandwich was enormous. The French onion soup was very good and quite tasty. At first I was upset about all the bread in the soup but it all worked to perfection. Don't know what kind of bread it was but it worked with the onions and the cheese. Then my George's Creation arrived. OMG, it was enormous. See my photo! I substituted a salad for the fries, thinking that I would be getting a traditional side salad. No way. It had so many different kinds of veggies in it. What I really liked was that he brought two containers of dressing. I didn't need both of them, but it was nice to have. I used one and a half. I wasn't sure how to eat the open faced sandwich over grilled rye. Cheddar cheese melted on top covering lots of sliced turkey, spinach, tomatoes and hollandaise sauce. I decided to split it with the steak knife and fold it over. It was like eating a Dagwood sandwich, and it was very good. I kept going between the salad and the sandwich until I finished both. BTW, the desserts looked absolutely fantastic. I picked up a take out menu and noticed something strange. Maybe it is a NYC Financial District thing. Take out prices were less expensive than eating in the restaurant. Exactly the opposite of my hotel's practice of charging more for room service. I guess the hotel adds the tip. My bill for both came to $16 + taxes. Not bad at all for the City.Just a little note: George's was in business since 1951. But they were forced to close because of structural damage to the building after 9/11. Apparently, the owner (George?) went through hell trying to get the building fixed and the restaurant opened again without aid from the city and fighting with insurance companies. I came for breakfast wit two friends. One of us got cold eggs, cold bacon. My bacon was microwaved the toast was not toasted. Paid more than anyplace with a meal like this. Like most YELP reviews you have to go with the middle ground. This place seems to be reviewed mostly by tourists and I can understand why. It's definitely a desert downtown for eateries at breakfast in the wall street area. I've lived down here for 35 years. Never went to George's. It was rebuilt after 9/11. Not sure why. They did a nice job. The interior is welcoming. The service though is not entirely welcoming. We got waved to a table. No hello. No good morning. No nothing. The server poured us both decaf coffee when only one of us wanted it. I got the southwest eggs benedict which were good but the potatoes were LOUSY. They looked like they had been sitting around in a pan since yesterday. I noticed a lot of people did not eat theirs either. I always feel service is the easiest thing to improve in a restaurant. What bothers me about this place is that many out-of-towners experience this as their first eating experience in NYC. Try a Danny Meyers restaurant for service. If the potatoes and the service were better I would have given them 3 and a half stars. And my wife never got her 'shot' of OJ with her pancakes. It's an average diner. I really appreciate the owner responding to this review. My wife and I will definitely give George's another try. Maybe we just happened in on a bad day for your staff. All the best. The food is ok, but the places is definitely not clean. We had to returned our coffee mugs because of red lipstick and cracked. One of the knife was full of ketchup with food and the service was horrible. I would defiantly wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

These people can't get anything right.. I order the same breakfast everyday and everyday something goes wrong, whether it's half the coffee spilled in the bag or the wrong sandwich. My friends and I chose George's because of the large variety on the menu and the open air seating, this was our first and final visit. Even though the restaurant was empty, we were seated in a back corner away from the open windows. The seating hostess did not ask us for a preference which was strange considering we were the only ones there. Our waiter took a while to get our drink orders and only gave 2 of the 3 of us water. The food was average at best. My chicken parmigiana sandwich had overcooked chicken and end of the roll was stale. I had to pay extra for fries because nothing else came with the sandwich. One friend ordered a hamburger but the waiter did not ask her how she would like the meat cooked. The coleslaw which you pay extra for was a tablespoon amount in a tiny cup that fast food places usually use for condiments. My other friend ordered pancakes which tasted like instant pancakes. Only half her bacon was "extra crispy" as she requested. We became extremely uncomfortable when a man who appeared to some kind of manager had a staff meeting right in front of us where he chastised the employees for not cleaning the floor properly - which was true, there was food and dirt all over the floor. After our food came out, the employees dragged all the tables over towards us, sort of enclosing us in. They began to sweep and mop the floor while we were eating and the stench of bleach was ruining our appetites. We felt so rushed because they kept trying to take our plates when we were clearly not finished eating. Popped in here between sightseeing spots, and enjoyed the hearty helpings and lovely service. We arrived here about 1pm, and were seated promptly. The menu is HUGE. I work down the street from George's. It is basically a standard mediocre diner. The food is your typical NY prices- $14-16 for a basic salad with dry grilled chicken. The burgers are over cooked. The fries are ok, but not incredible. Nothing is really note worthy. The ambiance is boring and it is loud inside too. It was ok. Came here for breakfast and the food was good but service was horrible. It is apparent they do not care if you are there or not as they only care about the revenues they're getting from tourists. And its annoying to sit next to the owners who are talking about building a new apartment or home and who can not control their kid from spilling food everywhere. We stopped in for breakfast since we were staying at the W around the corner. It seems like a great place to stop and had plenty of seating. This is a clean, well staffed, decent place for a simple meal. Nothing to go out of your way but if you want regular breakfast or simple lunch in the financial district you can come here and be treated nicely by the staff. Pricing is more than a NJ diner but it is the financial district in NY and you can sit and relax over a burger or plate of eggs. Great and quick service. The lumberjack came with 3 pancakes, eggs, sausage, ham, and bacon. It was enough for my 6 year old son and I to share with some left to spare. I live in the area and George's is great. Their service is very quick and food excellent. I have been going there for about 3 years and it has never failed me. For diner fare it is really the only place in lower Manhattan. Also, price wise the places around there may appear cheaper but really they are not and the quality is not as good. read more

OK diner. The server was rather rude. The ambiance feels a bit tight, especially the stairs. Go for the upstairs if you can, much roomier. I ordered eggs over medium with turkey sausage.
