They thought we left our Amex card behind and the unbelievably nice server ran after us like I've never seen. We stopped in and had a quick bite on our way to do tourist things. Great, albeit a wee bit pricey, food (though the portions were quite generous, so that may have something to do with it). I had the Monte Cristo, which was wonderful, though I wish it was served with the traditional jam. My husband had a delicious looking Reuben. Was looking for a quick breakfast at 12 in the afternoon and went to a deli but they had turned off the grill. So, on my way back home, I passed George's. I had the Eggs Florentine Breakfast, and it was delicious. A little on the salty side, but that was what I was in the mood for. The spinach was piled heavy, the english muffin was kind of oversized for the egg, but I don't mind that since I love bread. I just felt that the spinach slightly overpowered the egg and feta. The egg was also a little too soft for my taste. I love a good running egg, however the egg white was kind of runny as well. You can see in the image one of the eggs was already falling apart without even being touched. The home fries were AMAZING. The perfect amount of crunch and actual potato. Other than that, there was fast service and I was quickly seated. Given I was only one person, the food came out pretty quickly which was great. Ugh George's, I had such high hopes for you but you disappointed. Line was long on a sunday around 11am, but it moved quickly. We were wedged in next to other tables but that's to be expected as seating was tight in there. I had the hungry man omelet and fiancé had the basic 2 eggs breakfast with and add on of bacon. I am currently on the keto diet and asked to substitute anything for the home fries like sliced tomato, the server offered fruit instead so I said ok knowing I wouldn't eat it. In the end I had a $2.50 extra charge for the fruit and I said I'm not paying that and he said there's a charge and I said I didn't want anything but you offered fruit so I went with it and he proceeded to tell me the substitute charge is on the menu when I asked why he didn't tell me about the up charge for something I didn't touch and that's still here on the table. I told him to make the charge go away or it's coming out of his tip......the charge didn't go away and I won't be coming back here. Even if we didn't have the up charge debacle, the food wasn't good. read more

I had a bad experience here a couple years ago, but recently decided to give it another go. I'm so glad I did. As expected, the service is nothing special -- it's your average diner. The coffee is slightly better than normal diner coffee, and the prices are reasonable for an NYC diner. I got the corned beef hash and it was great. Very tasty. Food: dramatically bad. Bleu cheese dressing - no bleu cheese. basically just mayonnaise spinach and artichoke dip - overwhelmingly vinegar-y shrimp linguine - a pile of overcooked, mushy linguine in some kind of sauce which had absolutely no flavor. the shrimp were ok-- i think they were fresh - but cooked with no seasoning and completely flavorless garlic knots? - HA! a toasted kaiser roll, crumbly and stale, with a swipe of margarine and some garlic powder. and I mean a swipe..like a dot; basically you're just chewing on stale, dry toast. red velvet cake - stale Service: awful we were seated at a two top far too small for all of our plates, especially because empties were not cleared away. there was one server for 7-8 tables, no large parties and all close together, but still he was completely overwhelmed. As a former waitress, I try to give servers the benefit of the doubt-- maybe he's just having a bad day, or maybe there's something going on in the kitchen we don't know about. But this kid....I don't know. He would disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time. We sat for at least 30 minutes, plates of unfinished disgusting linguine in front of us, and no sign of our server to clear our plates and take a dessert order. I was determined to have dessert, since I was breaking my fast from Yom Kippur, and the apps and entree were so disappointing. The cake was stale and way too sweet. Our waters were never refilled. Based on the reviews, they do a nice breakfast here. My boyfriend says you should only order diner food -- breakfast, biurgers, sandwiches etc.-- in diners. Watch out for George's if you order delivery. The last two times I ordered the price I was given online was not what I was charged. I paid $2 bucks more per item ordered. The first time the excuse was the prices were more expensive on the weekend. Then the menu was updated on Grubhub and I ordered the early bird special and still they delivered to me and wanted $3 more. I asked why as that's not the price I was given when I placed the order and the delivery guy said they raised the prices...what in one week they raised the prices twice?! So I called and asked to speak to a manager who wouldn't give me her name and she blamed it on grubhub that they didn't update the menu which had just been updated the week before. They'll do anything to get another buck from you. I told them they lost a customer. It's ridiculous to pay $4 more every time you order. read more

Decent prices and quick service. It was a packed house when my wife and I ate there but we ordered and were served in about 15 minutes time. And considering how busy it was, the waiters were surprisingly friendly. It's right near ground zero and wall street so it's a convenient stop during a lower Manhattan tour. read more

Cheeseburger- No clue what it was, beside grease& RAW ground matter. Fish n Chips Special not available-same fish, no batter. Loved all the beer signs, yet has no liquor license. Shout out for the recommendation to wasting time,walk,money & appetite. Just a block or two south is a Friday's & an Irish pub, that assuredly, would've provided a much tastier/cleaner meal. I've been twice, had great service both times, and the food seemed pretty decent, the chicken came with a big heap of fresh veggies, the best vegetables I've had at any diner I think (diners are not known for veg) BUT both times the meat was cooked with no salt, the mashed potatoes had no salt either. I understand that some folks are worried about too much sodium, I'd rather have the cook put some in the food then have to reach for the shaker at the table since that way you always end up with much more than if it the meal had been properly seasoned in the first place. read more

I've ordered from this place before and I cannot give it more than 2 stars. The food is horrible and the customer service is very low. The people can hardly speak english and that makes ordering all the more complicated. Not so great of an experience. I use to come here all the time, either dine in or take out. Did they change owners?? I called for omelet order and asked for additional ham (assuming they would understand that I meant for the ham to be inside the omelet). when I picked it up, ham came as a side, they put all of these extra salsa stuff right on top of my omelet which is really salty and giving me severe heartburn, and try to argue w/ me that i didn't give them the right instructions (3 ppl at once attacking me on it). I ate at George's before, this has never happened before. I think they also charged me extra for my omelet which was $7 for the omelet and 2 slices of ham came to a total of $10.29 (I'm confused, does 2 slides of ham really cost $2 and more in NYC???) I ordered from George's a few times (via Seamless) and was generally happy. One day I decided to actually find the place. I went and had a Texas burger and was again happy and quite comfortable, although in the future I will try to go at times when it's less busy. A suggestion regarding web site design. All restaurant web sites should put their address and hours prominently on the home page. At best, that information should be on *every* page. At worst, that information should at least be on the "Contact" page. The George's web site does not have the hours anywhere. May I suggest adding this information, which should be very simple to do. Also, the email address given on the "Contact" page does not work. I tried sending the above feedback to george@georges-ny.com and it bounced. read more

I was staying with a friend in Manhattan for the night, and was looking to get a great breakfast in NYC before looking around for the day. My friend recommended George's due to its easy location (across the street from us) and incredible food. Started great with a very tasty cup of freshly brewed coffee, and continued into the meal. I ordered the corn beef hash with scrambled eggs. The food was perfectly done, very flavorful. To my please my surprise it also came with two slices of toast and some potatoes. During our recent NYC vacation, we planned on having breakfast at George's prior to seeing the statue of liberty. The food was fine.... no complaints. .... The service was horrid. ... Our waiter had to be called to our table for everything we needed and he totally reversed our order. ... My wife ordered scrambled eggs with bacon.... I ordered pancakes with sausage. .... He came back to the table and gave my wife pancakes with bacon and gave me scrambled eggs with sausage. ... We didn't complain... we just switched plates, then switched side dishes. It may have just been a bad day and every restaurant suffers lapses like this.. .... Based on food alone, George's is fine. ... But based on service, we wouldn't go back. read more

I think the menu at the diner is different from the online menu. I came here with a group of coworkers for lunch and we were seated immediately. I got the California Club - and it was sooooo good. It came with chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, ranch dressing, and a plate of fries. My coworker got the tuna melt which she fell in love with. Everyone was so happy with their meal. Reading the reviews I expect more but they did not deliver. Service was quite fast but uninterested and the food did not give us the wow factor.
