The services and products used by Georgetown (Electrolysis &) Skincare are amazing! I consider myself a perfectionist with very high standards, but I've never been disappointed with the services at Georgetown Skincare. I typically get my eyebrows threaded, followed by a facial and microdermabrasion. Each time, Sheila and Nulu have been very attentive and do an amazing job. The microdermabrasion has removed scarring that was caused by acne a few years ago and overall I'm happy with the results. With regards to the threading, I've gone to a number of other places throughout DC and needless to say, I was never happy with the results. At Georgetown Electrolysis & Skincare I always emerge with beautiful and well-shaped eyebrows. Also, I have extremely sensitive skin and facial always cause me to break out. I've never broken out after a visit to Georgetown Skincare and have been told on numerous occasions that my skin was radiant (this was DAYS after a visit). I attribute the difference in my skin to the organic properties of their products. This is not to say all products are completely organic, but they are nourishing and great for those in their 20's who want to begin fighting the signs of aging. Georgetown Rejuvenation is amazing--always a blissful, relaxing retreat from real life. I have had several treatments here, all of which have been fantastic: I started my visits at GR by getting electrolysis appointments with Shiela. I was definitely worried about the process. I had heard it could be painful and, if not done by the right person, could cause bad irritation (namely, swelling). Luckily, I had no such problems getting my treatments from Shiela. The discomfort has been minimal and I haven't had any issues with swelling at the treatment site. Best of all, I've had really great results. After getting electrolysis, I started getting laser hair removal in some other areas, again with Sheila. Just like the electrolysis, I've had great results so far and the pain has been relatively minimal. I have also never had any bad reaction to the laser. Most recently I started getting facials at GR as well. I have had several facials with Mitra and one with Maryam. Both of them have been fantastic and have done wonderful things for my skin. I'm breaking out less and feel as though my skin looks nice and dewy (in a good way) every time I leave. I love how they work so hard to personalize the experience to you and your skin. Georgetown Rejuvenation is truly unmatched in how welcoming and caring they are. I usually don't leave reviews because most places I find most places to give straightforward services (not necessarily bad or good). However, this experience has been nothing but the best and I felt compelled to say something for people who are wondering. I got the 6-session underarm laser treatment groupon and saw that there were positive reviews on yelp but was not really sure what to expect. Sheila is very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. The office is gorgeous and homely at the same time. I like that I get reminder calls the day before my appointment and that all of the staff are kind and welcoming. I'm a wuss when it comes to these type of treatments but Sheila has excellent bedside manners and makes it bearable for me. After my treatments, Sheila always offers me delicious pastries, fruits and coffee which appears to be for both staff and customers, which is a nice treat. The place is very popular and extremely efficient. During one of my sessions, I accidentally forgot my session and when i told Sheila, Sheila was extremely understanding and nice to allow me to reschedule. My appointment at Georgetown Rejuvenation was everything that I was hoping for. Sheila did laser hair removal on my underarms and bikini line, and she was great at it. The whole process took 10-15 minutes, and because they have the newest laser machines out there, it was not nearly as painful as I thought it would be. Most of my friends that have gotten laser hair removal elsewhere had always complained about how pricey, painful, and time consuming it is, but that is not at all what I found at Georgetown Rejuvenation. Laser hair removal - so far so good! Friendly, clean, effective, overall a good experience. It's a small place above a pizza restaurant, with old-fashioned stairs like you see in the neater Parisian boutique hotels. Inside they have it decorated really nicely - generally I am not a fan of lush opulence, but they pulled it off with a nice eye for color, texture, and style. I kept on wanting to reach out and pet the different fabrics. It's run by a mother and her daughters (should be a recipe for bickering, right?), and I saw enough genuine affection that I have to admit, it melted my heart and made me want to help them succeed with their business. Making an appointment went fine. I think in the initial Groupon rush, they were overwhelmed so couldn't always answer phones, but they check voicemail and got back to me quickly with an appointment. For my second appointment several weeks later, I got through just fine, so I think it was about call volume before. I had to reschedule once, and there was no problem with that, either in attitude (nothing but positive) or availability. The laser went well. Sheila helped me quickly, explained the procedure beforehand, answered any questions, and didn't do what a lot of other businesses do (try to pressure you into more work). She slowly increased the strength of laser to what I could handle, which I appreciated - a common laser complaint is that the setting was not high enough to actually work. Although it takes awhile for the active hair follicles to drop the hair, I feel like I've seen fewer hairs than usual. Other people on Yelp mentioned too much chatting while working, but I didn't experience that - she was friendly and chatty, but not too much at all (and that is definitely something that would bother me!). I thought "chattiness" boundaries were fine. Actually, her genuine warmth made ME want to chat more with her. Like all laser hair removal, I'll need about 6 treatments (to account for cycles of hair growth, only follicles with hairs in them at the time of laser can be burned out). I figure most people who are considering laser hair removal would have Googled to know that, but just in case I'll put that out there - you need 6 treatments, plus or minus. Since I'm getting a lot of hair removal on a Groupon discount, I'm considering getting another service at full price. To me that seems like a way to honor an excellent business for providing a great deal. According to Yelp, eyebrow threading seems like a good option. I bought a 5 pack lower leg laser deal for Christmas. I've had great service here. The waiting area is very plush and I've never been kept waiting for an appointment. My technician explained how the laser worked and gave me clear instructions for how to prepare. It's always easy to get appointments and unlike a lot of places they're open on Sundays! My first time meeting Sheila, I was doubtful about the possibility of not shaving anymore. I did all the research before showing up to the place. But Sheila was very professional about explaining the whole process and I was very much comfortable talking about my unwanted hair. She even gave me free treatment on the day of consultation on my upper lip and underarms to at least try the laser. Since then, I have been going to Georgetown Rejuvenation for laser hair treatment. I must say I have seen some excellent result on my upper lip, underarms, bikini/Brazilian, and lower legs within that six treatments. Now, I just do touch ups every other month. I actually recommended this place to my coworker and she goes there all the time now and planning on more treatments. I've been seeing Shelia and Nesa at Georgetown Rejuvenation for two years now. I've had electrolysis, laser, and regularly have my brows threaded. They always take extra care to minimize pain (I am overly sensitive) and take great care of me during every visit. The only issue I've ever had is that they aren't always very organized and sometimes I end up waiting quite a while past my appointment time. My review is only related to facials, eyebrows, and IPL, as those are the only treatments I had done at Georgetown Rejuvenation. Pros: I had gone to GR for about two years. Sheila and the entire staff is extremely friendly and courteous! Every time you walk in you feel like you are around people you've known for years. The prices are also reasonable. I had come to Sheila initially with cystic acne concerns, and I did see noticeable improvements after doing several facial treatments. Nessa is great at eyebrows and really takes her time to do them so they look great. Cons: Getting a facial done never begins and ends with the same person- sometimes a facial is started by one, then another person comes in and does the extractions, then another finishes the facial with a mask or massaging. It's kind of frustrating, and I really wish you could begin and end a facial with one single aesthetician. Second, I wasn't aware of this, but Sheila is not a certified aesthetician. If you read the website, she is a member of the American Electrology Association, and there is only one certified master aesthetician that works on site. Which means majority of the girls that work on your face are not officially certified and are simply trained my other employees. This is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but there had been multiple times when Nessa did my extractions that she completely BUTCHERED my skin. I'm talking I was red and blotchy for 6-7 days, and I have been getting facials for 5-7 years and KNOW that's not what is supposed to happen during the recovery period. Also, the girls use the lancing tool far too often, which would not necessary to do if they were adequately trained. Overall, if you are coming to Georgetown Electrolysis for a relaxing experience where there is a lot of face massaging and face masks for 90 dollars, have at it. If you have REAL skin concerns, REAL texture concerns, are looking to really improve wrinkles/aging skin/acne/hyperpigmentation, look into going to a medical spa. There are so many advance techniques out there now, ranging from LED light therapy, to microneedling, that can improve your skin much faster and that require less treatments, and the treatments used at Georgetown Rejuvenation are outdated when it comes to facial treatments. I also do care about the technicians being licensed, and don't think it's fair to sell your customers on having uncertified individuals conducting treatments, because it can lead to adverse reactions to treatments, which is exactly what happened to my skin. After a few months of doing treatments, I saw improved results after 2 months, and then my skin just went back to what it was originally after 6 months because the quality of the treatments varied so much depending on how many different people touched it each appointment. Sheila also sold me on 2 IPL treatments throughout the process, and it did absolutely nothing to my skin. Complete waste of $85 both times. read more

I started going here when it was in Georgetown, and have continued since the move to Arlington. I'm shy, and while I've had electrolysis two times in the past,it just felt was embarrassing to me so I stopped. Sheila is the warmest, friendliest, person imaginable. She made be feel like a dear friend right away. Only caveat: the atmosphere can get a little too casual -- there's no receptionist, so when someone comes in, there can be a bunch of overlapping conversations, but hey, if you want someplace very cold & efficient, find a med-spa. But if you want a comfortable, warm (and even relaxing!) place, then all I can say is I love it here. read more

Fabulous! Me and my sisters each received slightly different treatments during our facials to suit our different skin types. My mom tattled on me, mentioning I had a stiff neck and she came right over to give me a massage. Definitely going above and beyond the services that come with a facial. They had a delicious spread of different grapes, olives, pitas and hummus. It was very relaxing and felt wonderful!! (except maybe the blackhead removal.. but it was to be expected with my craters, and was over quick). On the down side, the building creaked and you could hear others. The ladies speak to you and explain what they're doing. Don't expect to fall asleep with a silent experience. But I prefer being able to chat about skin, and look over at my sister and see what they're doing to her. The building was older but charming, it was still very tranquil and the decorations were beautiful. It was a wonderful experience, I highly recommend this place! I've worked in the medical spa industry for four years, specifically dealing with laser hair removal. As a customer, when I was unhappy with my results from my former spa I decided it was time to look for a new one. I knew what to look for and what I wanted from my new spa, and Georgetown Rejuvenation met my needs and then some. First off, the staff were extremely kind and accommodating​. Sheila was a pleasure to work with despite being in the middle of dealing with the discomfort of the laser (which wasn't too bad in my opinion). Appointments are fairly easy to book, and they really try to work with your schedule. The inside of the spa is also very quaint and charming. The treatment itself is what really blew me away. I am not exaggerating​ when I say that I have had 20+ treatments of laser hair removal at my old spa, but I achieved​ far more results in just 3 treatments with GR. My hair is particularly stubborn, and I am still so pleasantly surprised how well my treatment has gone. Sheila's expertise and the miracle machine that GR has was such a winning combination for me. I also received​ the Signature Facial which was extremely refreshing for my skin as it gave a very deep clean. I went ahead and purchased the recommended​ facial products for my own personal skincare​ routine, and it has made a huge difference in the clarity of my skin. The products are slightly pricey; however, they are luxury items and do last quite a while, so I believe it was worth the investment. All in all,​ I really can not see myself going anywhere else. I have a beard. There, I said it. I suppose God looked down when he made me just a little too perfect and said I couldn't have all the sexy, smarts, and sense of humor, so he gave me a beard and small pinky toenails. It could be worse. You have a beard too or else you wouldn't be looking for electrolysis. I plucked, waxed, shaved, and used Magic Shave (powdered Nair for black folk) until I realized I was doing it more often AND I started getting ingrowns. I hopped on my noptepus and rode it all the way to Arlington to see Mina. One thing of note: I go during the week at about midday. I can't speak for weekends or evenings. -I've always gotten appointments quickly. -There is parking in front and on the side. -The space is lovely even if the sofa is a bit low, but I'm not there for the sofa and they always have sweets, fruit, and crisp water. -Mina will let you rest for a few minutes or cut the session short if you can't handle it. You won't be charged for the full appointment. I went in for my consultation and Mina looked over my face and asked me about my hair removal and my skincare regimen. That took about 15 minutes. Then she did 10 or 15 minutes of electrolysis and sent me on my way. I decided to go back. The first few sessions resulted in ingrowns because the hairs were THICK and I had one hour-long session that resulted in a weird inflamed welt on my chin. I do 15-30 minutes max and numb myself with hemorrhoid cream. Yes, hemorrhoid cream. Look, it's either have a beard or strange amazon suggestions. Just buy the cream and don't get frustrated if it doesn't feel like it works the first time. I found I actually need to apply a layer an hour before my appointment and then another layer 30 minutes before my appointment to get sufficiently numbed. Tips: -Get hemorrhoid cream. You can get a tube of LMX 5% on amazon for $20 or ask your doctor for EMLA cream. -Don't go right before or during your period. I'd suggest no closer than 7-8 days before. -Don't go if you're dehydrated. -You'll be offered an ice pack (glove filled with water) when you leave. Take it. -Take pictures. I know you don't want evidence of your beard, but it's pretty much the only way to note changes in hair growth until it becomes significant. No, I'm not sharing my beard pictures with you. Maybe. I don't know yet. Ask nicely and I MIGHT. -R-E-L-A-X. I know. Even with all the research I did I was still nervous, but relaxing really does help. I've been going about 9 months and I still have to remind myself to not tense up on the table. -Talk to Mina! She's friendly and us chatting away has gotten me through two hour long sessions. -Get an aloe vera plant. Mine is still alive AND has sprouted babies. Buy the gel if you kill everything. Apply it when you get home and don't wash your face until the next night. Spritz with rose water and wipe off with a cotton pad if you get oily. I don't know what to tell you if you wear makeup. You can, but you might want to use disposable tools and fresh samples until the scabs form. Does it hurt? Yes. She's inserting a probe into a hair follicle, applying an electrical current to it, and removing the hair. Insertion-not painful, but you can feel it. Current-painful. I wince if I'm not numb enough because it feels like a rug burn. You have two options-a single zap at a higher level or two zaps at a lower level. She'll decrease the level to get the finer hairs. You'll get scabs and they should be pinpoint sized. Anything bigger means the current was probably too high. Hair removal-not painful. This is not (supposed to feel) like tweezing. It hasn't been zapped sufficiently if it does. I have thick hairs and can feel the bulb leaving the follicle, but I don't feel a thing when she's lifting the finer hairs. I used to have to remove hairs every 2-3 days. I'm now comfortable enough to go 2-4 weeks between sessions, but the sweet spot is 3 weeks. You can trim the hairs with cuticle scissors if they're unsightly. My thickest hairs (the ones that gave me the most grief) are still "thick" while being finer than they were before and they're no longer curling as they grow in. The other hairs are getting finer and I'm having a harder time telling the difference between them and the fine layer of hair I just have (I have sideburns). Don't worry, Mina can tell the difference and gets them. read more

The hair removal journey is a long and difficult process and as someone who's gone through it and is currently going through it, and after spending a year and thousands of dollars giving this place a chance I would sincerely recommend everyone to go elsewhere, to a certified medical professional who know what they are doing. I rarely write reviews, good or bad, so you can trust that this experience has been horrible. After one year of full body hair removal with Neda and Shela I have seen absolutely no reduction in hair growth, in fact any hair growth that that reduced because of laser sessions I had previously gotten in New York (erase spa ftw) also went away. In fact some parts got more hair and instead of informing me that this happens with laser sometimes on certain skin tones they kept telling me to buy more packages and do electrolysis, which they don't even know how to do properly... A year later I'm back to square one, out thousands of dollars and riddled with burn marks. YES BURN MARKS. See picture. I've been burnt by both Neda and Shela several times and each time they told me it was because of my sensitive skin and I thought hmm okay but never ever was I burned getting laser in New York and that actually worked! I've also gotten electrolysis from Shela and that burnt and it felt like she was just plucking the hairs out and I had so many scars. I am now getting electrolysis done from elsewhere and realize that she WAS PLUCKING my hair, a big no no. They don't know what they're doing. These people are excellent at pretending like they know what they're doing, they sugarcoat their inefficiency with over friendliness and gaudy decor but they're just looking to make money. You'll notice they're rushing from appointments and don't really care about the client - I've had a 30 minute electrolysis last 20 and other such things several times. In conclusion, I've gotten laser done before from an actual certified medical spa in New York and it was not like this. It never burned, the laser never hurt this much and the technicians were not inefficient housewives.
