My review is for dessert and drinks. My husband and I were staying in the hotel for our anniversary. After going to another restaurant for dinner we stopped by for dessert and drinks. My husband had the cigar and scotch dessert and I had the carrot cake. Both were delicious! Very unique flavors and beautifully presented. The cocktails were also amazing! If you like craft cocktails made by bartenders who really appreciate the ingredients you will love this place. We asked for local recommendations and the bartender gave us the Geraldines bartenders guide to getting down in ATX. She took her time going through it with us to make sure we saw all the local hot spots. We took her advice and were not disappointed with any of the recommendations she made. read more

Geraldine's is such a lovely space. The experience starts outside. We drove up and somehow the valet knew the rest of our party had already arrived and guided us into the hotel, which was truly impressive. The gorgeous entry of the Hotel Van Zandt is worth taking a moment to experience (the record birds are really cool). You'll feel swanky as you meander over to the elevator with the guinea fowl on it. And once you step out into the restaurant, be prepared for a swanky space overlooking a very lovely patio/pool and view of Austin. We came with family for brunch a couple of months ago and were really impressed. We had my young niece with us and yet were able to piece together a breakfast made for champions that she would actually eat (picky kid). The rest of us ordered a variety of really tasty dishes. I ordered the ricotta fritters and they warned me it was a small plate. Well, let me warn you IT'S A SMALL PLATE! I ended up ordering a biscuit as it was maybe 4 of these tiny round fritters. They were delicious, but I, who typically eats like a bird, was still hungry after. For the price, I don't feel they are worth it because you are going to need another dish. My biggest disappointment was the one brunch cocktail I wanted was not available. I have no clue why as it was a cold brew drink, but it was definitely a downer as my coffee was really good, but not as good as that cocktail would've been. I really wanted to try one of their cocktails because of the bar manager and her reputation. Needless to say this coupled with the fritters were disappointing. Our service was really great. The food was good and Mom was happy with her special breakfast. The fire alarm even went off midway because of burnt toast? Funny thing was no one moved. Flash lights and everything and all the customers acted like nothing was happening. Thankfully, the staff made sure we knew nothing was truly amiss. The only reason I have removed stars was because of the missing cocktail and the miniature, overpriced fritter dish. I should add this was Mother's Day, so how do you not have all the cocktails!? read more

Let me say, I'm hooked.. The carrots (yes with mole), the grilled cauliflower (the gremolata = heaven...)both were sublime. Then, I was blown away by the deconstructed lemon buttermilk pie. And this raving is not just the cocktails talking. .. but, I will say that the Aviation and the Hendrick's g'n't were spot on too. But the best part? The wonderfully staff. A Private elevator takes you to a hip Austin restaurant. People inside are dressed upscale and casual. The dining area overflows onto a rooftop pool deck with classic Austin views. Great area for cocktails with friends. Dinner was fantastic! Home churned butter and bread, lovely salads, squash, short ribs, wagyu beef, and a nice wine list. Cocktails are inventive and lively. We showed up at 8pm for dinner and stayed for the live music. It was a great date night!! (FYI no kids anywhere. Noticeably an adult venue). The staff were attentive and the manager couldn't have been any nicer. Great night, we'll be back. read more

What a fantastic dinner. #1 was service. Our waiter Alif, was there when we needed him, perfectly friendly & asked all of the right questions/made the right recommendations. #2 decor: gorgeous restaurant, well spaced tables & relatively quiet, which is perfect for a date night. We were locals, celebrating our anniversary. It was the perfect spot! #3 food: small plate style, also perfect for date night sharing & tasting much of their menu. Best cocktail of the night, was the refreshing alou bout you, with gin & cucumber. Best dishes crispy pork ribs, goat tartare & charcuterie....the ribs melted off the bone, but still had a fantastic crispness without being dry. The tartare goat was finely diced w/ a bit of heat from the habanero. The chicken liver mouse was simply divine! The only dish I wouldn't recommend was the ceviche tacos, as the toreado overpowered the flavor of the fish. Way to spicy. You must save room for desert! Well the food was ok but the server was terrible. We had to fetch our own water in a virtually empty restaurant. After we had to get out water which really wasn't the biggest deal the server loudly complained how she was only gone for 5 minutes and couldn't believe we got our own. I have stopped here various times for drinks but this was the first time for food. Definitely need to plan ahead that you will order multiple dishes. Each dish is really for 1-2 people to share. Similar to tapas or appetizers. All the choices were excellent. The staff was very informative on suggestions to accompany the choices. Great place to go with a group or on date night. Hotel Van Zandt is beautiful and Geraldine's is really nice. I walked in and was so excited to have a really nice experience but the service was so appalling it doesn't matter that a nice jazz band was on and it didn't matter that my benedict was delicious -- all that matters is that we were treated extremely poorly and will NOT be recommending or returning. Just a few grievances (this isn't even everything) -we were seated, asked if we wanted coffee or water, I replied 'no, but I will have some orange juice' he replied to this 'you can tell your waiter when she gets here' -a manager walked around to check on how everything was going, if I needed anything, I said yes and ordered a bloody mary. 15 minutes later, no drink, my waitress Mo comes around and I mention that I was waiting on a bloody mary I had ordered. She said 'no you didn't'!! I work in the service industry and this is NOT how you treat people. She walked to the bar, found my drink, and set it in front of me without saying a word. Ice was half melted btw -- and she didn't mention having to wait 20 mins for that drink. -when we were leaving she threw the check on the table and did not say a word. - we were clearly being rushed out, we were asked if we were ready to order THREE times in TEN MINUTES of sitting down. Overall, TERRIBLE experience, terrible service, I am a concierge at a major downtown hotel and will recommend my guests to stay far far far away. I feel really bummed about spending money here. I am seriously just so annoyed at this experience and I will not be back. read more

In general, my trio of trips to Geraldine's has been pleasant. While the hostesses all seem to have chips on their shoulders, the servers have all been outstanding. While portions are small, flavor is big. While wait times are long, so too has been the satisfaction I felt after dining and drinking. Last Thursday, however, I experienced something truly mortifying, which is far outside the decorum of establishments in the echelon Geraldine's claims to want to be in. My server (who was relatively decent up until that point) decided to chime into mine and my friend's conversation, wherein we remarked that the price of our bill (about $160) was rather high for a few drinks and snacks, even considering Geraldine's high price point to begin with. "If you come with more people," she shone a blinding flash of the obvious onto us, "it's cheaper for each person." The stupidity of this comment notwithstanding, the waitress' having made it at all, let alone her decision to eavesdrop on us, was totally unacceptable. read more

5 visits. 3 times did dinner 2 times went just for drinks. I really want this place to do well. Ambiance is really "Austin chic cool" with a live music stage offering up nightly local tunes. Food is great! Service levels on the floor have been inconsistent. Bar service has been spot on and ranks with the best. I'm a big wine fan and was expecting a lot more with the wine selection especially given the corporate Somm is a Master. Apparently Master Somm is not based here so it might take some time for them to figure out what sells in Austin. Noise level for dining is too LOUD!!! I had a head-ache the next morning and it wasn't from the drinks. Sat at a table for 4 (before the band played) and we could not hear each other talk. Please Geraldine's fix the acoustics!! The bar side lounge is sweet and offers great views of downtown. The outdoor pool deck is a hit. I think they're working out the kinks and this will be a sleek and sexy place to see and be seen...and of course eat and drink. read more

We were so excited to eat here. The reviews were promising. We arrived early (thinking we could get in sooner) and were told there were no open tables. However there were 7-8 tables open and many walk ups without reservations being seated before us - first strike. While we waited, we went to the indoor bar and waited 10 min without as little as a "hello what can I get for you". So we headed to the outdoor pool bar and were told we could not order drinks there - same bar as the indoor area - 2nd and 3rd strike. We went back to the inside bar and finally caught someones attention. We went to the host stand sitting area. The host asked us on three different times in 45 minutes, after we had checked in, what our last name was - 4th strike. After an hour of waiting we were finally seated. We got to the table received coffee, which spilled over because the table was sticky and unbalanced. My husband got on all fours and moved the table leg pin down to balance it out. He should not have had to do this - 5th strike. He ordered a coffee and bailey's. The coffee arrived and no bailey's - 6th strike. We order...my eggs are raw...I asked for poached medium and the hubs potatoes were not cooked and very cold - we were told they would be diced and flash fried. They were whole baby potatoes and boiled with a little seasoning on them. They correct the eggs which are perfect this 2nd time. His potatoes are hot, but not fried or diced - 7th strike. We finish up. Wait for our check. A manager comes by and asks how everything is. We explain our problems and they take care of our bill. Not what we expected or asked for but it did help us feel better. She explained the kitchen was understaffed and was really sorry. We loved the ambiance - great interior space and great trio playing. I'd give them another chance because they tried to make things right. The waitress was attentive and very nice. Overall a bad experience but not the end of the world. read more

For such a cute hotel and restaurant atmosphere I expected so so much more. 1) paid valet is your only parking option 2) the menu is pretty limited and ridiculously over priced 3) the food is MEDIOCRE at best, you could go to brunch for 1/4 the cost at Black Walnut and get better quality food 4) your waiter will disappear for 10-20 minutes at a time 5) did I mention it's insanely priced for average food at best?! Had a reservation here because we had a big party and we were lookin to get some brunch! Sadly the only time we could get was 1:15 but that's what we get for booking last minute. Geraldine's is inside Hotel Van Zandt on the fourth floor I think. There's an exclusive elevator you have to take to get there. Once we were seated our waitress took our orders. I wanted to try the chicken and waffles but they just ran out. NO! Must be good then... I opted for the Cuban Benedict. It took about an hour for all of our food to come out. Not sure why it took so long, didn't seem that busy. Because we've been waiting for so long, they gave us a free huge ass strawberry lemonade donut. It was a nice gesture that held me off from my starvation. The waitress also didn't come by as often to check on us. She only filled up my water twice and the cup is half the size of what a normal glass would be. The food finally came and we dug in! My Benedict was delicious, but the egg was over cooked. My friend's mother also got the crab toast and her egg was over cooked as well. I was looking forward to pooping open the egg to reveal the runny yolk. Nevertheless, it was still good. My friend got the French toast. She said it was pretty good but she's had better. Another friend of mine got the croque madame or whatever and it was huge. The béchamel was extremely flavorful, almost too much that you would get tired of it after a while. We also tried the pancakes, which was pretty good as well. It's made out of masa so it tastes just like tamales which is strange, but surprisingly good. Overall this restaurant is really nice inside and offers interesting fancy dishes. Taking off a star because It took forever for our food to come out and another star because our eggs were over cooked. Probably wouldn't be coming back but it was a nice experience because I don't normally eat at fancy places like this. read more

Went here the other night for dinner with two out-of-towners. We were looking for something close to their hotel and also to scope out for a potential future work event. We had heard good things from others and thought we would check it out. The hotel and restaurant have a very upscale vibe in terms of decor. When you enter the hotel, you want to take the elevator immediately to your right to the fourth floor - it has Geraldine's written on one of the elevator doors. Our table was waiting upon our arrival and they were accommodating to our expanded request for seating (that we didn't end up using as our group started to get too big!). William was our waiter and he was friendly and knowledgeable. For cocktails, I sampled the G&T (with lavender!) and something else that he said was like an upscale margarita bordering on a Mexican martini (with a nice spicy kick finish!). He recommended that we each order two items from the menu for sharing purposes. This was spot on. We definitely did our sampling - the items I tried are below: Farmers Market Salad - nothing special in terms of ingredients, but you can tell it was all fresh, which I appreciated since some of our other items were a little heavier. Fermented Chile Hush Puppies - nice and crispy - came in a serving of 5 of them - really liked the pickled fennel ranch sauce that they were sitting on top of when served (there is also a hot sauce for dipping, but I didn't think it was needed). Baked Raclette - really, really amazing! A must try! Nice melted cheese goodness with crispy bread and pickled veggies. Barbecued Short Rib - a William suggestion and we were not disappointed. The edamame-jalapeno sauce was a nice local flavor touch to the ribs. Texas Strip Loin - who can pass up something that comes with cheddar tater tots and a potato mushroom fondue? Not our table! Also a really strong dish that I would highly recommend. Lemon Buttermilk Pie - also a William recommendation. It was fine, but I was expecting more of a lemon flavor to it. Peanut Butter something - it was a new dessert, so not seeing it reflected on the online menu yet, but this was the star dessert from my perspective - really great mix of flavors and textures on the plate. You can't go wrong with a mix of peanut butter and chocolate in my book! Be sure to make reservations - they were quite busy even on a Tuesday night and I attribute that both to the fact that they have good food, but also because they are attached to a hotel. All in all, a solid meal and glad I was able to see all that Geraldine's has to offer! read more
