I have lived in Whittier for about 21 years. I've driven past this place probably more times then I can count with just my fingers. I have always taken my cars to the dealers. However, I now own a Chevy 1.3Turbo and they're hot thirsty engines. I didn't want just any oil and I knew they had Mobil 1 full synthetic which I highly recommend for the turbo 4 cylinder GM engines. They were reasonably priced and really fast. Blew engine when it was towed to chevy dealer, techs found 10 qts of oil in engine Engine only holds 5 qts, spoke with owner he was in total denial. This place is great. Here's an example of what makes this place so great to go to. There was a coupon for Jiffy Lube in the LA Times for an oil change for 26.99. Went to Jiffy Lube in Whittier, present the coupon, and get told by the guy that it's for participating Jiffy Lubes and he isn't sure if they are participating and the manager will be gone for the next two days and I can come back then if I want. I don't live in the area and I needed an oil change bad so I paid full price. After oil filter, air filter and tax, it was 53 and change. On top of it they pushed hard to add extra stuff on. They said my serpentine belt was way overdue for a change, that I could use a tune up, I needed a transmission flush, etc. Now I knew I needed the transmission flush from the last time I got my oil change at Gerkey and Sons. They showed me how bad my tranny fluid looked and I couldn't afford it and they didn't push it at all. Meanwhile Jiffy Lube acts like it's imperative that I get all this maintenance done or else my truck will explode. So I managed to get away from Jiffy Lube without being duped into any add ons, including the transmission flush for 125 bucks. Drive straight over to Gerkey and get it done for 90 dollars and in about 12 minutes. Plus I asked them to check my serpentine belt that Jiffy Lube said was in dire need of changing, and the guys at Gerkey said there was nothing wrong with it. Not going to make the mistake of going anywhere else again. Gerkey and Sons is fast, friendly, and they don't try and screw you over. They make recommendations on services you need and if you say no, they are polite about it and don't push anything on you. read more

Honesty and Integrity....Must be family owned!! 13 and a half minutes. In and out. Oil change, Air filter, oil filter, trans flush. I overheated the transmission in the desert earlier the same week, and I knew the fluid was toast. To make sure I wasn't asking for something I didn't need, the tech showed me a sample of my jeep's used, darkened transmission fluid in a white bowl, and beside it, new fluid for comparison. ...mine was wasted!! No one tried to sell me crap I didn't need...but to the contrary, ensure I didn't buy or pay for something I didn't need. I sent my retired mom. She was treated with the same respect. How about that? Found this location via Yelp. I was on my way to Jiffy Lube but then read better reviews of this location, decided to give it a try and I wasn't disappointed. Workers here were friendly, fast and know what they are talking about. I was expecting to wait a good 20 minutes, which is average but instead was in and out in 10, then again they weren't busy, so don't expect that fast service all the time. If you value your car and are looking for good service, I'd recommend this location. There are other places that charge less yet they don't use quality oil, you get what you pay for. When another customer pulled up after me and was escorted inside for service after about a 5 min wait and I was still ignored, I decided to leave and write this review. This is a legitimate FIVE STAR REVIEW! Called around to many oil places trying to see who could provide an oil change for my wife's 2010 VW Jetta TDI. Apparently both the oil and oil filter are on the "endangered species" list as they seem to be a rare item. The owner answered the phone and was brilliant. He made sure he had both the elusive oil and filter in stock and told me, "Yes, bring her in!" I drove in to find an open drive through spot. Pulled right up. Within 10 seconds I was greeted by the owner. 20 seconds later the hood had been opened and two of his guys were on it. Very efficient and friendly. And, the price was extremely reasonable as well. Unlike many other oil change places, they did not try to sell me on anything else (dirty filter, engine flush, etc.). I highly recommend this place and encourage anyone within a reasonable driving distance to use them. I'm sure once you do, they will become your "go to" oil place. read more

I needed an oil change for my Nissan Pathfinder yesterday and took it to this place because it's local. Good: 1. To my surprise, I was in and out of there in about 10 minutes! 2. One guy immediately started working on the oil change, the other guy worked on airing my tires and topping off my fluids and a lady took my payment. 3. They were super efficient and nice as well. I didn't even have to get out of my car! 4. There were prices displayed inside their shop, but they never pressured me into anything. Bad: 1. Nothing. They are friendly and helpful too and they didn't try to up-sell me or tell me that I needed extra service or parts or anything. They even washed my windows for me and checked my tire pressure. I'm pretty sure that this is my first five star review of any establishment EVER!** These guys are no nonsense, no up-sellIng here. Not unless it's truly necessary. Let me start by saying I only would begrudgingly take my Chevy Suburban to Oil Can Henry's on Santa Gertrudes. Because when they originally opened I thought they were an honest alternative to the fly by night "quick lubes" in the area. Well, they were until the up-selling began. "You need a new fuel filter" or "some thingamabob needs replacing" and this gem "you need new windshield wipers" at three times what you could get from a auto supply place or Costco. This slowly started to happen with every subsequent oil change in addition to quarterly price increases. I lost count how many times they wanted me to get a new fuel filter. Quickly my opinion of them changed. They weren't trying to save me any money, they were trying to extract as much of it as possible. Then one day I noticed that their sign was replaced by "Valvoline." Oil Can Henry's was no more. A small chain gobbled up by an even worse money hungry corporation. I figured I'd give them a shot because it was close to home. Wow! Rip off city. They wanted $65 for a standard oil change! What the!?! Now, Oil Can Henry's was encroaching on that price point but they offered coupons that would bring it down below $50 (plus an arm and a leg if anything else needed servicing). Screw you Valvoline! I can only imagine how much up selling goes on to unsuspecting customers. Now, this brings me to possibly the greatest oil change you can get in the City of Whittier... Gerkey & Sons Pitstop. The place is nothing fancy (no offense) it doesn't need to be posh to get the job done. The thing I like about Gerkey's the most is there is no need to jump through hoops with coupons or first borns to get a decent honest price with no up-selling. Trust me, take your car or truck here, you won't be disappointed. I'll be doing a review shortly on the best mechanic to take your car or truck to in the Whittier/La Habra area. I've been searching for one for almost 30 years... I finally found one!!! **Edit. Okay, second. The Lucky Penny in Santa Barbara was first. I went here to get my oil changed without calling ahead or anything, just drove right up and they helped me! They saw I had some window wipers in my car to put on, and offered to put them on for me without charge which was so nice of them. I've gone here a couple times and have had great customer service especially from the gentleman with long blond hair. He's very nice and just has overall great customer service skills. I came in today just for an oil change and was helped by this man that looks like he plays golf all day and cheats on his wife. I just asked if they also fill up the power steering fluid while they change the oil and instead of just answering with a yes or no he started to explain to me what power steering helps with which is totally fine but then when I turned my car on to leave he started asking me, "Does the car still make sound, does it, or do you have to turn to figure that out?" in a very condescending tone. I am a women that knows a great deal about cars thanks to my father so I don't appreciate him talking to me like I'm an idiot. I then waited for them to tell me that I was all good to go like they usually do which they didn't say anything instead he said to another employee "is she going to go or does she want to have lunch here". As someone that has worked in customer service for as long as I remember I don't appreciate that attitude and rudeness I received today. Your customers are the reason you make money and have a business so maybe don't treat them like shit when they come to you for business. read more
