Well, I've had to change my review because my check engine light keeps coming back on. I've brought my Boxster in five times, and after each time, the problem reoccurs within a couple hundred miles. Anyone can turn off the check engine light. The problem is, fixing the issue so that it stays off. These guys have cost me well over $2,500 and at this point it feels like they're just trying stuff. They're probably OK for things like an oil change, but I don't think I'll use them anymore. I suppose I could bring the car in yet again, but it seems like they're in over their heads despite meaning well, so that'd be a waste of time. read more

I am a woman. Specifically, I'm a petite young woman whose knowledge about cars extends only to "Right one means go, middle one stop, left one is shift." I decided after a poor experience with the dealership that I was in the market for a automotive shop that wouldn't take advantage of me just due to my lack of knowledge. I found German Auto Center by an indirect recommendation - a friend recommended a Japanese-only shop, and they recommended G.A.C. Now, a year later, I'm grateful that I made it! To begin with, they allow appointment-making online. It's always tough for me to remember to call, so online is a must. On my first visit, I spoke with the owner, Len, and explained why I was there and how the recommendation had come to me. He assured me that his goal was to keep me a happy customer, and every subsequent visit has proven that. Here are some highlights: - They work with my extended warranty company, so I haven't had to worry about losing that benefit. - They're quick! I drop off in the morning, and repairs are done by the evening. - They give me a ride to work if I drop off the car in the morning. - Len was sure to point out that his cell phone was on his business card - and made sure I knew that even if I was having trouble on a weekend, to call his cell. - Len also usually has a slight layer of oil/grease on his hands, proving that he doesn't just own the business, but he's willing to get his hands dirty too. Since my car is out of warranty, I decided to take my 2008 Mercedes-Benz C350 to an automotive center instead of the dealership for scheduled maintenance and to address a noisy front end issue. I read the reviews of various automotive centers and chose German Auto Center (GAC) based on their reviews. When I dropped my car off I dealt with Clay, who was awesome! He listened to my concerns, explained how the front end works and what could be causing the noise and he also checked my tires and brakes. Much to my surprise he said the brakes seemed fine and it looked like the problem was likely my tires. Within a couple of hours he called me for an update and confirmed that the front end and brakes were fine. He also shared that my back tires needed to be changed and that one of my front tires was wrong side out which means the directional treads were going wrong direction, possibly causing the noise and unsteadiness I was experiencing. Clay offered several selections of tires and prices that I might consider and offered to have them changed along with my scheduled maintenance. Not only did I get a better price for better tires than in the past, I didn't have to take time to get them replaced myself. My car now runs like new again and it was far less expensive that I feared. I so appreciate the honest approach that GAC took in servicing my car and the excellent customer service by the Clay, the driver to gave me a ride to work, and the mechanics. My first experience with German Auto Center coming to my rescue was when my car's battery failed with common jumping protocol not working. The owner sat on the phone with me and guided me through step by step on a different technique. No one other mechanic or company I have come across would do that. I was able to get my car to them to purchase a new battery that was over $100 less than what the dealership wanted. I was a new, loyal customer from the start. Three months later my Mercedes needed new everything according to the dealer. German Auto Center inspected my car, going down the list, offering me honest advice on what my C250 really needed. Half of the dealer recommendations were bunk! AND my New brakes cost $400 LESS!!!!!! They are helpful and honest. Came here after receiving wonderful treatment for a quick fix. Scheduled my annual service. Made an appointment a few months prior and was told by one of their employees to make it first thing at 7:30 to ensure I'd get my car back same day. I asked if there was someone who could drive me home otherwise I'd schedule a ride. I was told yes they could do that. Cut to my appointment on 10/13 and I show up at 7:30. The office is open but I'm told that as of 10/1 the hours changed and they now open at 8. Yet I received multiple confirmations confirming my 7:30 appointment. Even more egregious was that everyone was there, the office was open. I asked if I could wait in the office until 8 and the woman who was working the desk said no to wait outside because they aren't actually open. Why did I make a 7:30 appointment and receive multiple confirmations for that timeframe when you won't even let me wait in the building?! Why was I not told the hours had changed? And why did I receive multiple confirmations stating my time was indeed 7:30 when the hours had changed? read more

My experience here was great. I just bought my Porsche in May, so this was my first oil change. I haven't been overly impressed with the dealership, so I looked elsewhere. I'm glad I did. It was super easy to make an appointment online. I also called to check on timing and/or shuttle options. I spoke with Chris and he was able to move some things around so that I would wait while they performed the oil change. The waiting room was clean, comfortable and there was complimentary coffee and water, as well as free wi-fi. The wait wasn't very long. It was time for my 2019 Cayenne to have an oil change and the 20K service replacements. I was shocked at the cost that Porsche charged for that and any other service so I tried to find another alternative, but none could reset my service message due to this being a newer model. German Auto Center could and their fees were reasonable for other services so I went to them for the first time last week. They did a great job, finished the work ahead of time, and charged what they promised. I'll be going back. read more

They are clear about items that need fixing fast, such as safety issues or those that might cause greater damage. For other items they find, they are good about explaining the problems and estimating when in the future to get them checked again. This has helped me avoid big spending by spreading the maintenance cost of my 11-year old VW Passat over time. German Auto Center is my hero! When my car wouldn't start, I ignorantly trusted the closest Volkswagen dealership. They were rude, took forever, didn't return my calls, and mysteriously found a new problem that would cost me big money and leave me stranded a lot longer... German Auto Center was the total opposite. GAC was super friendly, prompt and kept me well informed. The best thing is they were honest! I didn't need a special order part. The GAC mechanic discovered it was not connected properly. They completed my routine maintenance and repairs within hours (not days) and sent me off in a shinny clean car (something else the dealership didn't do). I can't see taking my Beetle anywhere else from now on. If you have a German car... This is the place to go! read more

I just wanted to take a minute and comment on the initial service of my 2003 S430 that I recently purchased. The car only has 45,000 miles on it. Initially, I asked for a pre purchase inspection that they charged me $115 for. Considering that the shop is a specialist Mercedes shop, I received a very non detailed report. Simple things such as % wear on front and rear brake pads and rotors were not covered. Flex disks, engine compression, fuel injection, etc were not mentioned. In my opinion, very little was truly inspected during this evaluation and that is quite disappointing, especially for the price paid. After the initial evaluation, I was given a list of items that was determined that my car needed. Since it was stated that the spark plugs were needing to be changed, I ordered that as well as a trans fluid service. When I got there to pick up the car, I found out that they did not even pull a spark plug to inspect if they were original or not. They showed me the plugs and they were not original. So, while the spark plugs may have needed replacement eventually, they were certainly not necessary now. For this alone, I was charged $440.61. $144 of that, I was charged for the spark plugs alone. I could buy these anywhere for about $32 total. I also highly doubt that it took 3 hours to complete this job. For all the services rendered, I was charged a bit over $1000 on things that I would consider not very important at this time and I consider this very disappointing. I feel that Lemon Busters or a company such as that would have done a much more thorough pre purchase check on my car for about the same price. I really wanted to get my front struts changed (as they are both leaking) and I was initially told that the new struts and installation would cost $1000 for both sides total. I considered that to be a fair price. After receiving the workup, it seems that it would cost $1000 per side. A very considerable difference. The workup that they sent me stated that each rebuilt strut would cost $762 each. I can personally buy them for $750 for a pair and get $100 back on the core charge! Ultimately, I did not have a positive experience dealing with the shop and I wanted to let everyone know my level of disappointment. read more

Let me preface this review with the fact that I think Clay Jones and the rest of the technicians in the back are GREAT! They helped me as much as they could throughout this whole endeavor and were very timely with updates and overall very compassionate about making the best of a bad situation. Clay Jones even paid $60 of his OWN MONEY to right the wrongs that Len wouldn't agree to. With that said, my main concern is with the owner as he was unwilling (after multiple conversations) to reimburse me for a part I never needed as well as 2 Diagnostic Fees. Ultimately, German Auto Center had to take my car to BMW whom remedied the problem within 2 hours. However, German Auto Center wasn't willing to reimburse me for BMW's cost for their 2 hours of service. In the end - I paid for 4 tanks of FULL gas, 2 Diagnostic Fees (German Auto Center & BMW) 1 Fuel Sensor and 4 hours of German Auto Center's Technician's time. ***FULL STORY*** I recently bought my vehicle and realized upon filling it up with a full tank of gas, the gas gauge only went up to 1/2 instead of FULL. I took it in to German Auto Center as (I've been a long time customer since 1996) hoping it would be a quick fix - I couldn't have been more wrong. They asked that I run the vehicle out of gas before I brought it in - I asked about this process and was told that even BMW would ask the same thing of me (incorrect as I called BMW whom stated they siphon your gas out into a container, and put it back in once the job is finished). So I had to drive it for a couple of extra days, and brought it back in without any gas. Once in the shop, they noted it was a bad fuel sensor within the gas tank, so they replaced it, and said they had to fill it back up with gas to confirm. I gave them the OK, they filled with gas, all seemed well. I drove it off the lot, ran it for a week, and once I needed to fill it with more gas, realized the gas gauge was stuck again at the 1/2 mark. I called back again, and was told I'd have to run it out of gas before I bring it in, so I drove it around for a couple of days running errands, and brought it in once more. Back at the shop they made some changes, and once again stated they need to fill it back up to confirm. I gave them the OK, another $60 cost to me for this, and it appeared to be working once more. Drove it off the lot, and now realized, the gas gauge never goes below the FULL indicator. This led me to needing to track mileage of the vehicle, so once again, I would need to take it back to German Auto Center. This time, I was annoyed and wanted the solution fixed before I picked it back up, so I ran it around town for multiple hours, going through another FULL Tank of gas to give to German Auto Center. Drove it back off the lot (with another full tank of gas), everything was working. Then when I started to run out of gas, I filled it back up to 3/4 of tank, and sure enough - the gas gauge was only showing 1/2. This was when I was utterly perturbed and disappointing in everything. After 3 unsuccessful tries, the issue has still not been resolved. They take the car in the last time, and state the Fuel Sensor must be bad. German Auto initiated the return part via warranty process with BMW, but per BMW's policy with this particular part - German Auto Center must take the car to their technicians so they can agree that the Fuel Sensor needs to be replaced . At BMW, they charge a diagnostic fee for this if German Auto Center is in the wrong, but will reimburse everything free of charge if German Auto Center was right. Verdict is in:: The issue was never the fuel sensor or the fuel gauge, it was the notch on the top of the fuel tank itself, it wasn't at its typical 90 degree location, because of this, the fuel sensor was dropped in the tank at an angle, causing it to partially work. BMW denied the warranty replacement, charged a diagnostic fee and gave it back to German Auto Center. Len passed along BMW's diagnostic fee, and another $60 tank of gas. I stated that I shouldn't have to pay for 2 diagnostic fees, nor pay for a part that was never faulty in the first place, the cost of their incorrect diagnostic or parts that aren't needed shouldn't be passed onto the customer. Furthermore, I asked that I be reimbursed for 1 tank of fuel that I had use bringing the vehicle in the shop multiple times. Len stated that this is the cost of doing business, and that if I do not pay for the Gas in the vehicle or the 2nd diagnostic charge that he will "simply will not give me the vehicle, easy as that". I told him I would provide a negative review if he didn't 'right' the situation - he stated he didn't care and that one review wouldn't hurt his business - and that I have to understand that what I'm paying for is honest monies owed... him and I argued for about 5 minutes at 6:30PM on a Thursday when I realized, I'll just pay the additional fees, be on my merry way, and right this review. read more
