Sadly the quality of the food sold here has declined horribly. We've been coming here for years as its just A quick walk down the street, but not so much anymore. In the past 2 weeks we have purchased 2 gallons of spoiled milk, rotten produce and the meat they have been putting up for sale should be criminal. Some other posts have complained about the ice cream....this has been an issue for Gerard's for nearly a decade. They wont invest in new freezers, so you simply cannot buy the ice cream here. Not a big deal, but now the quality of produce, dairy, meat, everything is just non existent.....and sure, the new young kids working here may not be as friendly as Shirley, but they all appear to be nice kids. If you smile and say hi, they will say hello back. Its a two way street. You have to be decent too. I still like Gerard's, the people, the place, just simply cannot shop here too much these days. Gerrards is such a cute little corner market in Redlands. I love to swing by whenever I'm in town visiting my parents. The small parking lot can get a bit crowded on the weekends or near a Holiday so plan ahead. It can be a bit over-priced, but definitely has some really unique local items and hard to find selections. BUT - the thing you come here for is the Beer Cave. It's amazing! Two huge cooled rooms with lots of unique beers at pretty decent prices (selection of wines and spirits are good, too) and plenty of local brews, too. They even have a wide selection of fruit beers like ciders, Framboise, sours and other unique varieties. If you are interested in beer at all - this place won't disappoint. Also really great, high quality meat at the deli counter. Have not tried the baked goods but they look fantastic, too! Another thing to add to the list for my next trip! read more

This is your upscale neighborhood market. They have a great selection of cheese, meat & homemade items including quiche, soup, enchiladas, dressings, etc, along with a great produce and herb section. If I can't find something at Trader Joe's then I head here, or vice versa. Great & helpful staff! I actually love going here because I love the area and it's close to my jog area -- Prospect Park. This place has nice, higher end items and their beer selection is great but the deli needs some help. On the surface, this is a great little neighborhood market with a great looking deli, but I think some quality control is needed. I went in the other day because these guys are one of the closest spots to get Boar's Head Meats. I went in and got some Capicola from the counter. As soon as I opened the bag, I was hit with a very strong, not normal smell. Thought it was odd. Only had a slice or two and put it in the fridge. By the next day, it was more sulfuric/spoiled smelling and the meat was slimy. I had to throw it out a lot sooner than I had expected. I don't think many people are ordering the boar's head meats here and because of that, they are sitting on the shelf a little longer than they should be. I usually get my boar's head from Ralph's or sprouts, and I've never had this problem before. read more

Gerrards is truly a great local market. The whole place has a neat, small town feel to it and the selection of goods they offer is actually quite impressive. They have most of the normal things you'd find in a larger market plus more, like specialty sodas and meats. The boarshead meat in particular they sell is delicious! Prices are also reasonable. I live out of town and stayed in an Airbnb across the street. It was after 7 and I haven't eaten all day with the long drive down. I saw this Market that reminded me of places I absolutely love to shop in. I was blown away by the set up at the store, the products they carry and absolutely amazed by the selection in the deli. I got the green sauce enchilada pie for my dinner it was so good. There were just so many things to pick from I had no idea what to get, so I settled on the green enchilada pie because I haven't had one in ages, and I am so happy that's what my choice was. The girl in the deli did help me and she was fantastic she understood me not knowing what I wanted with all of the choices suggested things, she did get me to purchase some of the cucumber and tomato and onion salad, but by the time I was done with the enchilada pie I couldn't eat anything else. I'm sure if it's as good as the enchilada pie I would have been a really happy camper. I just would have had an upset stomach from eating too much. Their dessert selection OMG I am so glad I got down there late because I probably would have bought a lot of even though I shouldn't eat them they just look so good. Okay so I wake up the next morning and remembered how good that dessert selection looked and yeah yeah yeah, I went back for breakfast.... Okay I didn't go to the dessert case, I just went to their fresh baked products which are in a case in the front of the store. I got a cream cheese danish for myself, a pumpkin muffin for myself and a double chocolate muffin for the grandson. Yeah I know, but hey got to live a little bit sometimes. That cream cheese danish and the pumpkin muffin I didn't eat them at the same time separate days yet they were freaking the best I've ever had. Will I be going back to Gerrard's? Hell yes. This is a quaint little grocery store with a pretty incredible beer fridge. Also great to pick up a lunch. Gerrard's remind me more of a convenient store with great service. I rarely ever have to wait in line unlike other grocery stores so I can get in and get our quickly. I'm a fan! read more

This place is been here since I lived here in the 1980s. It is still family owned and operated. It has an amazing selection of beer and wine and hard to find items. That's why everything costs a little bit more. But if you're looking for a specialty item or you have something very particular in mind this is a good place to find it. One look at the discolored patchwork floor, leaky ceiling, or wheezing cooler and you can tell this store's best days are far behind it. Gerrard's appears to exist on posterity and nostalgia alone, wholeheartedly supported by the surrounding aging population whom shop through rose colored glasses of their own yesteryear. I have tried on many occasions to give this store a second chance, however when Sprouts is just as close and offers a cleaner shopping experience with an even wider selection of goods at a better price, it is difficult to return. Every time I have ordered anything from the deli, from a sandwich to cheese, the wait has been agonizingly long. On the few occasions I had a question about their heated ready to serve food, the person helping me did not even know what the food was. The one standout is the alcohol section, it is large and varied, you will be sure to find anything from a local sour beer to a good German Kolsch. The other standout being the cashiers, they are always friendly, quick and efficient. I give it two stars (Could've been better), though with the already low profit margins in this industry, I suspect it would be financially ruinous to undertake a full renovation when the store is most likely just treading water as it is. I say all this with a heavy heart, I wish local places like this could live up to the impossible nostalgia that we all ascribe them too. But it is clear that time has passed, if this place wants to remain a bastion of "the good ol'days" where you can always buy a large clear plastic bag of black licorice and pay for it with a check then so be it, just count me out... read more

Really surprised by the high ratings for Gerrard's... especially the more recent ones. Let me start off by saying that I have been a Gerrard's customer for over 25 years. I've lived in the neighborhood and have been shopping at this market nearly my whole life. Gerrard's used to be a great neighborhood market. Every since the current owner took over, things really took a downhill in comparison to what Gerrard's used to be. Pros: They do have a lot of specialty items that you won't find most other places in town. Some of the older female checkers that work there have been there my whole life and I'm always greeted with a smile and a familiar face. Cons: Expensive. Rude customer service in the deli area. Questionable items on the floor in regards to expiration dates on more than one occasion. Produce that rots quickly. I will continue to go to Gerrard's just because it is convenient when I am close to home... and just for nostalgia sake. But it's really sad to see the deterioration of such a Redlands gem! read more

Their cheese selection is fantastic! I like to call them "destination cheese's." No need to visit Pike's Place Market in Seattle or the Embarcadero in San Francisco for their featured cheese's because Gerrard's carry Cowgirl Creamery and Beechers handmade cheese. They also have a fantastic selection of crackers to go with the cheese's. I recently tried a delicate water wafer from Australia that went perfectly well with our creamy and hard cheese selection. The shop carries Boars Head products and choice cuts of beef as well. They also feature local produce and artisan products. It's great to step into a shop of this high quality that still feels small town quaint. read more

This is a great local grocery, it has a wonderful alcohol selection, one of the best cheese counters in the area, and carries some hard to find items - it even has a small British imports section - handy if you need to pick up some Heinz beans or Salad Creme... So why the low 2-star rating? The meat counter... it's pretty terrible, too many times been sold or offered meat that was way past it's prime... and too many times for it to be a one-off or freak occurrence. read more

Gerrards has always been my favorite hometown market.... i've been going in once a week for Açaí bowls, I absolutely love them. I have always had amazing service from Hailey and Alena, they always make conversation, have fast service and quality products. The past couple times i've been they have not been there and the new kids seem to not be considerate to customers. Oh how I love this place. I seriously wish that I could work at a place like this...instead of behind a computer for 15 hours a day. Every time I go here I am in awe of the cool artisan products that I simply HAVE to try. Their produce is of excellent quality. A few years ago I stopped in there on a cool morning and they had hot soup. The soup was Philly Cheesesteak. OMG! We got a bowl and sat in the car and ate it and then my friend went back inside to get more. He still asks for the soup, to this day. I have never come across them making soup there again, but I am certainly hoping to. I went by a few weeks ago and they were having their 80 year anniversary celebration. They were giving away Boars Head Hotdogs out front with yummy toppings. So good. They even make their buns fresh inside. It was the best hot dog bun...and Boars Head makes some quality meats. I have been going here due to a business dealing I have down the street. I've always been stunned by the prices and hit or miss cashiers who can either be super friendly or the exact opposite. I do like there hot food to go selection.Today I dealt with the most embarrassing customer service I beg all never to go here again. I dealt with this meat manager guy, who was so rude and abrasive to the employee, it was so super embarrassing. I learned his name is Alfredo. Just imagine if that is how a department manager deals with the employees, how the boss must deal with them. He berated the lady for cutting the lunch meat to thick.This is the kicker- I ordered it cut thick. He just walked into the situation and went nuts. 10 stars for the Beer selection and Beer Cave. One of the best selections of beer I've ever witnessed, when they debuted it this year it may literally have changed my life. That's not exaggeration, I work in the industry now and the increased availability here in Redlands played a large part in that. Great deals on meats, huge cheese selection, and a wonderful selection of gourmet wines, condiments etc. Good sandwiches, burritos and (on occasion) ribs. Look for coupons in local publicaiton for buy-one-get-one on ANY steak. Yes, ANY steak! However, the produce section is very expensive and lackluster. Much higher prices for noticeably lower quality than local farmers' markets and even other grocery stores in the area. I come to Gerrard's multiple times a week just to wander their beer selection, and often end up buying a great cheese or salami or a new hot sauce. However, I would not choose them as my market-of-choice for primary grocery needs. read more

I am still giddy over this place. It's so cool! I stumbled upon this market looking for the Stater Brother's near by. I needed some beer and an appetizer for a get together at my friends house. I walked in not really knowing if they would have what I needed because they were such a small market. But they had that and so much more! A huge bbq pit out front servin' up fresh bbq, cheeses, wines, crackers, beer, fresh food in the deli..... shall I go on? I ended up leaving with some beer, a ham and cheese quiche (that everyone loved, btw), and some ribs for me (I'm on a low carb diet). The cheeses I found there are from places that I have travelled too and had problems finding it again, until I came to Gerrards! They have cheeses from Canada, Pike Place in Seattle, San Francisco! Gerrard's has a great butcher. Won't find PRIME beef anywhere else. Love the addition of cheese tasting. For a single guy like me, the meal deals - one entree and two sides... can't be beat. The best thing about Gerrard's is the wine selection and Bob Kirkland the Gerrard's wine guy. Bob puts on a monthly wine tasting at Napoli's resturant which I highly recommend. Great wines, great company. Plus Bob tells you all about the wine he is pouring for you. Typically, 12 to 18 wines at these tastings. Don't go on an empty stomach or stay afterwards for dinner. read more

I love cooking, especially fine food. I cannot say enough about Gerrards Market. The meat/seafood department is the best. They have fist sized scallops and some of the most marbles steaks around. If they do not have something you want they will order it for you. Lamb, veal, bison etc.. I haven't even gotten started on the fine cheese selection. They have La Tur cheese which is hard to find and one of my favorites. Two walk in beer caves give you endless choices of craft beers. If you haven't stopped here you should. Love this little store! Definitely feels like markets used to be and it's great that they sit in the middle of Redlands, really gives it that neighborhood charm. Place is pretty run down but they have some good sales and really decent prices on alcohol minus micro brews. This is also one of the few places i can get my true Kona coffee. Their beer cave always has some good choices but I love their whiskey selections. They get some good bourbons and scotches that are usually gone before the shipment arrives to other stores. Great to be able to go in and get me some Blantons. Also love the breads and old candies they have, as well as all the little local stuff being sold like candles and other goods. I believe in supporting local businesses, and Gerrard's is as local as it gets. They have USDA Prime beef, which other mas-merchant groceries in Redlands claim to have some sort of version of this, but I don't buy it. I am practically a veggie, but if I do eat red meat it has to be of the highest quality. The also source veggies, some of them, from local farms. Their staff is super nice and helpful, and the store is clean and easy to navigate. They also have so many specialty items, like vintage sodas, hard to find beers, and a HUGE wine selection for a little grocer. This store is on its way out. It seems like that anyway. We've tried to use this store a few times this past year because it is close to us and offers a bit more in the deli, butcher and liquor side compared to other local chain stores. However there is a obvious lack of hospitality, cleanliness and Covid precautions. What was once probably a neighborhood gem now has all of hallmarks of a business on its last legs: poor management, unhappy employees and high prices (on liquor alone when compared to BevMo or other small stores the prices are high for no reason other than convenience) show the sun is setting here. read more

I love the little finds that this store offers, unique products you can't find anywhere else, and delicious lunch meat! I'm sad to say that I had a terrible experience here. I waited patiently for 15 min as I can see there was only one worker by herself. I get it, sometimes you can be short staffed. But after 25 minutes of NO acknowledgment that I'm even standing there! I couldn't believe it. The customer being helped before me even apologized. Seriously! Just say, " hello, I will be right with you. I'm sorry for the wait". A little goes a long way. Independently owned and operated with a long history because of the range of products and the quality underlying them. This makes it expensive compared to other locations which would be okay if everything was always fresh and not expired. A little too often the products appear to be on the shelf for too long or, if frozen, frost damaged. There's a great beer cave, British mini-store, dry goods speciality section and fabulous meat counter which might make you overlook the shortcomings but unfortunately they're underpinned with a little too many problems and too high a price differential to allow you to look past them. read more

Our family held my mother-in-law's Celebration of Life ceremony and I wanted a platter of sandwiches our family could share at "the homestead" together. I went straight to Gerrards because my mother-in-law used to shop there and the online picture of their sandwich plate looked great. I was greatly disappointed! We chose a specific sandwich plate so that there would be some sandwiches that were vegetarian. Nope - every single sandwich had meat in it. The online picture shows a sub-type roll and the plater only had sandwiches with regularly-sliced bread. I've had a much better sandwich platter from Walmart for one-third of the price! read more

I'm pretty partial to this place cause im right down cypress from them, and my fiance's family owned the gerrards prior to selling it to the gerrards family (or brothers, or whatever), so its kinda a cool story. So call me disgusting, but we love going just to eat the cheese in the little sample buckets. Yeah, at first I was like "oh my god kevin, you're rank for eating cheese that people could be, like, sneezing and snotting on or something. But i got past that. It was also the only place that carried Pepper Plant hot sauce from Monterey---its like a thicker tabasco with chunks of garlic. Oh god. Its just so good. But I havent seen it in awhile. If its ever back, do pick up a bottle. Carne asada tacos on saturdays are DIVINE!! otherwise, yeah, id have to sell my firstborn if i had to shop here on a regular basis, and yeah, there are alot of senior citizens in the parking lot that CLEARLY cannot drive (ive been almost hit 4 or 5 times cause people just back up and dont look) But this is a cute place. Good beer selection. Trader Joes is my place for everyday stuff, but I like to come here sometimes cause im a nerd.
