We were celebrating my father- in-law's birthday and when we asked him about choosing a dessert he immediately chose Konditorei. I was curious about the name of the place, so I looked up its history online. I learned that the bakery was founded by Gerry Frank and Barney Rogers, and that Konditorei (pronounced kone-de-tore-eye) is German for cake or pastry shop. The Konditorei first opened in 1982, originally offering gourmet cakes along with a small food menu. Over the years, the business has grown significantly. In addition to their cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, tortes, and pastries, they now offer a lunch menu from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This includes a quiche of the day, soup of the day, meat lasagna, as well as salads and sandwiches. While the location is now owned by others, it's clear they continue to carry on the tradition and spirit of the original bakery. All of the sweet items are displayed in large cases where you can browse and select exactly what you want. When we arrived, it wasn't very busy. A few tables were occupied, but we were able to walk right up to the counter to view the selection and place our order. We chose a variety of desserts, and everything was packaged neatly for us to take home. Later in the day, when we enjoyed our desserts together, we were all very impressed. It was a great way to celebrate a birthday, and the quality of the desserts definitely lived up to the reputation.

Veggie Sandwich with chips; wanted lasagna though

By 12:20, no more meat lasagna so had to order the veggie sandwich with kettle chips. Parking lot behind business is quite small so you have to find street parking; watch signs as some spots are 30min or 2 hours; at least it's free!

Adorable place to get desserts i got a slice of lemon blueberry cheese cake, blueberry cheese cake, cookie dough cake, German chocolate bar and a toffee bar and white mocha coffee also a honey bunny latte. They were pretty darn good. The bars were excellent and the white mocha loved. The service was prompt and the place was very clean with cute decor. Im a fan.

First time here and it was delicious! Definitely would come back next time I'm down! Loved the birthday cake! Classic! Cute dessert shop with ample seating and lots of tables, was decorated so cute like a lil dessert parlor shop! Highly recommend their yummy desserts:) we came here late at night so it was nice that they were still open past 8pm!

Oh my sugary cake-y cookie-y cheesecake-y goodness! So many wonderful things staring back at you from those refrigerated cases! I had so trouble making a decision! But I did decide after I had some lunch - a half turkey sandwich on sourdough bread and a cup of soup. Both were delicious and hit the spot, making it so much easier to choose some dessert. My decision? Lemon Raspberry Cheesecake, of course! Seriously though, I could have picked one of everything and been super happy, but I maintained decorum and went with just one piece of cheesecake. The dining room was spacious and clean. Even the restrooms were super clean! The staff were very accommodating to the large group of people I was with (some of whom had walkers), helping us with the logistics of sitting all together at one long table made up from several smaller tables. The Konditorei is truly a fixture in Salem and it's easy to see why. Now I need to go back and get another piece of cheesecake and some of those yummy-looking cookies.

We ate lunch here while looking at Willamette. The sandwiches were delicious, but what stood out about this place was truly amazing dessert selection. I mean OUT OF THIS WORLD!

It was easy to order my birthday cake and the employees are nice! The cake was decent. It was a little plain, the Marionberry filling could be a bit thicker and they could cut back on the cream between layers. I would happily try other cake slices from there again, but not a whole cake.

A very clean environment. I like that. Friendly waitress, lovely interior, felt clean, and very organized. The cakes in display just beautifully done. The waitress was super friendly and shared her favorites with us. I can't wait to go again!!

I was very surprised with Gerry Frank's Konditorei. It was large and spacious, with an open airy feeling of not being crowded. The place is clean, I mean really clean, like even the restrooms were immaculately clean. The main room floors are a soft vinyl type of square tile of the non-slip variety. Display cases are well lit and the treats, cakes and goodies are a real visual treat. There is an excellent variety of cakes and cheesecakes. Prices are very reasonable for slices and various brownies and biscuits. I've been to many bakeries and this one stands out in variety, menu, quality and service. There were three of us and there was about a 15 minute wait. Suddenly a staff member had different thoughts as she scooted some furniture around and made a place for the three of us with no waiting. It was also refreshing to walk into a bakery and see that they have enough products to where they didn't sell out in the first hour of the day. There was plenty! The seating area itself is very spacious with clean tables. There is plenty of room to navigate around the tables which makes it easier to go see the displays while you enjoy lunch. For lunch I had the Classic Clubhouse sandwich. It was a very large triple decker on wheat bread. It had bacon, ham, turkey, cheese, thick slice tomatoes, lettuce and mayo. It came with a pile of kettle chips. The flavors of the different meats and veggies is a fantastic blend of savory and salad. The ingredients were very fresh as well. I had a slice of the German Chocolate Cheesecake for dessert. It was very rich and dense. The strength of the chocolate was not overwhelming and the mixture of walnut, pecan and coconut was very pleasant and offered a light crunch to the cheesecake. There were so many delicious looking individual portions that we ended up with a large 'to go' box.

Be advised, the Shortbread cookies aren't really shortbread cookies. They sugar cookies. $1.50 a piece for small sugar cookies...come on.

I don't understand why this place is popular. The food is mediocre and the cake and pastries uninspired sugar bombs.

Since the internet never lies, I had to verify for myself. I wasn't disappointed! Are they the best? I'll have to continue my research to say definitively. The cookies are fantastic! I will definitely be recommending Sewell when the discussion of cookies comes up, which it frequently does during conversations with me. Service was quick and helpful when we asked about a cookie that we didn't understand. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about but all I wanted was a cookie so no problems there. If you are looking for quality cookies or anything else to satisfy your sweet tooth, look no further. I closely examined her mannerisms, intentionally asking random questions to test her. Not a lot of smiling. A semi-disinterested look, with similar responses. I've seen worse, but I'd hardly call such demeanor acceptable for the front of the house. Adam's should be lucky I wasn't there to rate the staff. Four cupcakes were available from Jenuine Desserts on my visit to Adam's. Chocolate Peanut Butter sounded great, but seemed too heavy for me at the time. Toasted coconut sounded lovely, and the confetti cake with vanilla buttercream was basically screaming at me to pick it. So of course, I went with the last option: red velvet with a cream cheese buttercream frosting. After placing my order, the young female employee went to the back, even though four cupcakes were sitting under a glass dome at the ordering window. I couldn't gauge how long they had been under there, but I got there a bit past 11 in the morning. She brought back a red velvet cupcake in a plastic see-through container. Pink edible sprinkles caressed the top of the buttercream for a great color contrast. But alas, the container was cold. At that moment, I had negative thoughts that the cupcake was cold and not fresh, perhaps refrigerated. In other words, the actual cake would be heavy and dry. And I was correct. It pains me, because I'd think people would yearn for fluffy, room-temperature cupcakes. I can only assume I came at an unfortunate time when staff needed to make sure the older products were sold first. I'm happy that any red food coloring was kept to a minimum, because I've seen those solid red cupcakes that just make me fear a bit for my health. The cream cheese buttercream was well-prepared: smooth and not overly sweet. The buttercream appeared to go to the middle of the cupcake, doubling as a filling. I personally like filled cupcakes, so I felt that was a plus. The overall flavors were palate-pleasing. I'll award at least a small happy panda dance for such fine work. Jen should have other attractive creations available, depending on the season. I'd bet a good amount of money you'd see her at a Farmer's Market in the coming months. Such events are great ways to get your name out there without enduring ridiculously high business/startup costs. I'm unsure if cupcakes are made fresh each day. I'd consider making some for lunch and a few for dinner. Adjust the number of cupcakes made accordingly. It's probably understandable that even this is a tall task, assuming Jen has catering events and other online orders to take care of. The cupcake has promise, but the non-freshness of the product significantly destroyed the experience. I'd consider giving these cupcakes another try, and hopefully, I'll get a fresher cupcake next time.
