We had heard great things about Get Real Sandwiches, so we decided to visit it with our Supper Club group. It was quite enjoyable and I'd recommend it for a quick lunch spot or casual dinner. This is a laid back place, so when you walk in, the counter at the front is where you place your order, and then head to your table and wait to hear your name called. The ambiance of the restaurant is a little bit similar to a diner style, and the windows at the front of house let in a lot of light, making it almost too bright if you're there when it's beaming in (we were). Our group had a lot of different items, but I will only mention the ones that we (my husband and I) tried! -Gochujang Fries: SO tangy and delicious. Not too much of the Gochujang sauce to overpower everything. -Poutine Fries: Again, very tasty, and this time a lot more savory vs. tangy. Very hearty and filling! -Pea Soup: I am obsessed with anything pea, so had to get this. I don't think they have it all the time, but they did when we went, and I'd recommend giving it a try if it's on the menu when you go. It was creamy and superb, covered in little celery slices and almond shavings. -Smoked Fried Chicken Sandwich: This was gigantic, with how large the chicken strips on the sandwich were, so I could see it being a little hard to take bites of it, without rearranging some things. It has toppings of pickles, honey mustard, and a spicy aioli sauce - so it is definitely delish, but wish it were just a bit smaller in stature. -Pork Belly Cubano Sandwich: I cut my Cubano teeth in Puerto Rico so I was intrigued by this version, and it was pretty good, with the classic ham and Swiss, pickles, and mustard/mayo. It wasn't "smushed" down enough to bring back memories of the San Juan Cubanos, but it was a pretty good Omaha-substitution. -Basil Chicken Salad Sandwich: I ordered this because I love chicken salad sandwiches but I was a little apprehensive as I wasn't sure how much basil would be in/on it. It ended up being pretty good, with raisins, celery, and a few other veggies that almost made it taste like Thanksgiving. Not the exact chicken salad you're used to (with just a mayo base), as there is a definite basil flavor to this one, but I wouldn't let that scare you off. Get Real has some odd hours (closed on Mondays, only open for lunch on certain days/lunch and dinner on others), so I would definitely check the hours ahead of time before you head there. If you can get there when they're open, and are in the area - I definifity recommend checking them out if you see something on the menu that interests you! read more

What a great find! We hadn't planned on going out to eat but we're in this part of town hungry. Normally we plan food destinations in advance, but this time we walked Blackstone and Get Real caught our eye. After a quick Yelp check, we went in. Everything was excellent! The front of house staff was on her own, hustling, on top of everything and with a smile interesting tidbits of info all throughout the meal. We started with house fries with spicy aioli and gochujang dipping sauces. All delicious. We also were curious about the mushroom toast and figured with buratta it had to be good. I love a buratta, but the star were the mushrooms. The chef marinates them and they were so flavorful. The crunchy toast was a perfect base. The sandwiches - fried chicken and turkey - were both really good, the bread on the turkey was especially wonderful. But I'd have to say tying the mushroom toast for star of the meal was the bread pudding. We were surprised to hear the desserts are also made in house so had to try one. Luckily when I first moved to Omaha this place showed up on door dash and it was our move in delivery lunch. I remember thinking whoa...I wonder if all the food in Omaha is this good. The turkey sandwich is INSANE. I'm not usually a fan of ciabatta because I always think it's going to be hard and scratch the roof of my mouth but Get Real toasts the bun like a magician and the bread is soft while perfectly crispy. The pecorino fries also slap. Have never had a meal here I didn't enjoy and the staff are always so kind. We walk with our dogs every now and then and eat on the patio with them. I walked in right after they opened at 11:00am and was privileged to met the owners Aden and Liz. Wonderful people. Classic rock was jammin' and the super cool wood vibe by Reclaimed Enterprises is just right. I got the Cubano, which is apparently the top seller. The ham and pickles were both thick cut, indicating these ingredients were as REAL as it gets. I also got the Pecorino fries with some aioli dipping sauce which was a party in my mouth. I was one bite in when Aden walked over and offered me their orginial sauce saying he recommended it on the cuban. He wasn't wrong. Just the right amount of tang without distracting from the other ingredients. It's my first time in and they've been open for just over a year. I won't be making that mistake again. After a meeting in Omaha I headed over to Get Real for a sandwich before my drive back to Lincoln. Getting to the sandwich shop from UNMC was trickier than it should have been due to all the construction on Farnham Street. Once there I enjoyed their ambience, the lighting and color scheme were nice and the shop (at 4:30 p.m. on a Friday) was mostly deserted. I ordered the Smoky chicken sandwich and a bowl of sweet potato soup. Get Real shares a bathroom with The bar next door, they were mostly out of soap when I went in to wash my hands but otherwise the bathrooms were fine. The staff were kind and brought my order out a few minutes after I returned from the restroom. I had to eat the soup first while the sandwich cooled down as it was made fresh and was super hot. The meat was a bit stringy in a few places. The sauce was good fine but not very 'smokey' it could have been spicier or a spicy option would have been nice...but it is Nebraska after all. The part that got me was the pickle, there wasn't enough pickle or pickle flavor, I think it's what makes a chicken sandwich of this type really stand out. If I went back I would ask for triple the pickles, just a cup of soup, and something spicy to add to the sandwich and soup which would bump the experience up to four stars. read more
