I am so excited to discover a delicious Korean restaurant in downtown Round Rock. If you can't find street parking in front, there is a lot in the back where you can park for free. **SERVICE** We went for lunch on a Sunday and there were plenty of seats available. They have both counter and table seating. Our server was attentive and checked in with us to refill the side dishes throughout our meal. **FOOD** - Bulgogi Pocket & Kimchi Shrimp Pocket (5/5) - I was super intrigued by their pockets since I've never had them before and wow these were incredible. You get the option of either having with tofu or wrapped in seaweed. We got the bulgogi one with tofu and shrimp one with seaweed which I think were perfect pairings. - Bulgogi Hot Pot (5/5) - I wanted a soup dish with noodles and this did not disappoint. I love the little cauldron it came with. The pot has glass noodles in it but the dish also comes with a side of rice. I initially thought it was pretty small but I was surprised how full I became by the end of it. I would say it was the right portion for me. - Bibimbap (4.5/5) - It's been awhile since I had bibimbap and I would say this was pretty good. I loved the soup that it came with on the side. My husband and I love Ghama Zone!! The food is always 10/10. The only place I get ribs at, they literally fall off the bone. The atmosphere is more upscale compared to other restaurants on main street. It's easy to feel like you're removed from the bar scene eating here, which I do enjoy. Ever been downtown in RoundRock,TX? It's charming, small and in walking distance to a lot of eatery's. Take Ghama Zone for example. Free parking close by and a friendly atmosphere inside. My family and I got a booth close to the window where you can still view downtown. We tried a lot of appetizers. Seafood Pancake $18, Mandu-gangjung $10. They make the freshest kimbap, I've ever tasted. The New Era Kimbap is my absolute favorite. It's Crab, Fried Shrimp, Ham, Carrots, Pickle Radish, Pollack Mayo Top: Smoked Salmon, Eel Sauce, White sauce. Yum We had great service overall. They just have to remember the end is just as important as the beginning. My family and I had to all stand as ask to pay for our meals to get our waitress to come over. read more

What I love about this restaurant is it consistent. At this point I have visited this restaurant at least five times. I've tried various items on the menu and I'm always happy with what I get. There is a large menu, so there are many more dishes to experience. I have tried the Garlic wings, Galbi JJim, Bulgogi (one of my favorites), Hot Pot Bulgogi, Beef Rib soup, Bacon Kimchi Kimbab, Crab Salad (another one of my favorites), Crab all in pockets, Avocado mayo mix pockets just to name a few. I have enjoyed everything. In the beginning Banchan was not offered. Now that issue has been corrected and now, they serve 2 types of Kimchi, fish cake and a macaroni salad. They keep the restaurant clean, and the service is always very friendly. The decor is nice with rich dark woods and modern lighting fixtures. I always sit at the tables but I will mention that they have a very attractive bar area. I suggest you visit, I know I will be back soon. read more

The kimbop was so good, they had a little tofu pocket which was delicious as well. My friend and I split a soju tower and an order of the Army Base soup/stew. I left full, and satisfied every time I've gone in until this last time. We went last week and they took off almost everything we enjoyed! No more kimbop, no more tofu pocket, no soju tower!?? They changed it to more of a sushi house now. Which, don't get me wrong, I love sushi. Giving some grace due to the workers appearing understaffed during peak hours. We called ahead to make a reservation for Saturday night dinner. We were seated right away but waited about 10 minutes to get menus. Throughout the night the restaurant got more crowded and it became more difficult to get anyone's attention to pay for our meal. The food itself is pretty good and offers a good variety of traditional Korean dishes. The original tteokbokki is solid here - pretty spicy but also has a slightly sweet undertone and adding ramen and dumplings made it even better. We also ordered a Crab All In tofu pocket (fave), sweet chili wings to satisfy our Korean fried chicken craving, and hodduk ice cream for dessert. Side dishes weren't especially generous but good enough. The restaurant is clean, modern, and located in the newly revitalized downtown Round Rock that is fun to walk around. When I first moved to Austin I thought there was no good Korean food except at H Mart. Well I did not try this place until recently and I do believe this may be some of the best Korean food in this town. The host and staff were very friendly and the dishes came out in a timely manner. Galbi jjim was insane. Galbi jjim always hits so maybe that's my bias. But we ordered a few dishes and it ended up being more than we could finish between the two of us for dinner. I think the prices are fair for good Korean food, and everything was seasoned well, and the flavor of everything from the starter to the banchan to the short rib was insane. Ambiance is nice and in a cool part of Round Rock. I used to live in pretty much Koreatown and ate a lot of Korean food growing up so my standards are high. The ambiance was busy on a Saturday night but since we called and made a reservation they sat us right away! This place has some steep prices but almost everything is shareable. We got a couple of dishes and they all were great! I started off with some Strawberry Soju to drink and their scotch eggs. The server gave her recommendations and they were quite helpful! Our server was sweet and patient with us which we all appreciated. The bibimbap was not the best I have had but it was still pretty good, I don't think I would order it again from here. I got a kimpab because it was sushi and it was so fishy I could not finish it. Our server made sure to tell us it was not Japanese sushi and it was Korean sushi, I gave it a try and misfired. The only downside was the short ribs. They were too fatty and were served last, even though we expected them to come out with the rest of the dishes. Being located in DT RR is not too far from Austin and they actually have decent parking in the area. The shop is pretty small so if you have larger parties or it is just busy, there might be a wait time. There is also bar/counter seating. Staff is pretty friendly and can provide recommendations if you need. My one star knock is for the price, I do not think Korean food, especially street foods, should be marked as high as it is here. I came to this location last Friday to get a meal to-go. Let's get to it, shall we? When I walked into the location, I was greeted by the host, who advised that I could place an order with him and wait at the bar while my order was being prepared. Once I placed my order, I sat at the bar and watched various Banchan being made. The restaurant has a clean aesthetic and sharp/crisp lines in all decor throughout the restaurant. What I got: Bulgogi hot pot Jeongol is a Korean word for hot pot. There are a variety of ingredient options for jeongol, such as Korean bulgogi, fresh seafood, dumplings, mushrooms, tofu, and fish cakes. Bulgogi jeongol is a Korean beef hot pot dish with marinated bulgogi meat, a variety of vegetables, and glass noodles (dangmyeon) in a savory and slightly sweet broth. Usually, leafy vegetables are used for dishes such as this like napa cabbage, spinach, bok choy, watercress, Swiss chard, choy sum, etc. However, this dish featured carrots as its vegetable. I was able to taste both the savory and sweet undertones within this dish. However, the lack of vegetable variety within this dish was a disappointment. But, this establishment is supposed to be 'non traditional', so perhaps this is the reason why for the lack of some traditional elements within the dish. Crab Salad I've had a Korean cucumber and Crab Stick Salad. But, this was not that. It's a traditional crab salad with fresh greens, cucumbers, onions, and cherry tomatoes. This place had amazing food! I came here for lunch with coworkers. We were a pretty big group of 8. Almost all of us ordered the hot pockets. We were pleased that there were many different options for the 5 different flavors of the hot pocket. We liked the "appetizer" style foods that they bring to you before the hot pockets-Kimchi, a fishy one, and one more. I liked them all minus the fish forward one because although, I love seafood, I don't like fish too much. The hot pockets were delicious. The standouts for me were the eel and the bulgogi. The only issue we had is that it was hard to tell which hot pocket was which, so it was hard to make sure we got the ones that we had specifically ordered. For example, I didn't order the spicy salmon or tuna hot pocket and I'm pretty sure I got it (even after they 'checked' to make sure they weren't spicy). There might be a better way to remember which meals correspond with the specific seats that ordered them. Otherwise, we had a wonderful time trying a new cuisine to most of the group. We would love for the hot pockets to be available during Happy Hour or the dinner time. But aside from that, we're excited to come back and try more food! read more

The food here is fantastic. I had only had KBBQ until i came here. This place has changed my life's i have eaten here 30 times in 2 months i go everyday for lunch. The lunch special is out of this world. I highly recommend getting the spicy pork kimbap bacon kimchi pocket and the crab all in pocket. This place has the best kimchi i have ever had Everyone is so kind and fantastic. Jake is a fantastic chef. I wish i could remember everyone name to name drop them but i can't. The food is all really delicious! Of all the Korean restaurants I've tried around the Austin area, this might be the best. However for the prices, I don't think it worth it at all. The tofu pockets were each $4/5 and it was kind of crazy to me that dishes like tteokbokki and kimbap and army stew (notorious for being cheap and like quick at home options or street food) were actually quite expensive. And sadly, I wasn't even full when we finished the meal. I can understand needing to make a profit and maybe the location of the restaurant is expensive. But the pricing kind of disappointed me. Pork bulgogi is wonderfully sweet and tasty. They have some seaweed salad and scallions on top, which was interesting, but also delicious. It comes with truffle butter!!! Soo good!! I put some of it in the lettuce with the meat and ate it as a wrap. I'm quite familiar with Korean food (used to work at a Korean restaurant) but love how the server explains all the different sections of the menu-from Tteokbokki to kimbap. Love the portion size. I was only able to finish half and I was hungry!! I did finish the bowl of rice. If you ask for more rice, it does cost extra. Side dishes are refillable, as is typical with Korean food. Simply the best tofu pocket I ever had. Tried this place for the 1st time, and I am definitely going again. I had the bulgogi and crazy chicken tofu pockets. Crazy chicken was my favorite, though bulgogi was great too. I can go just to have the tofu pockets, it's that good. Also, had their seafood mix kimbab. It was amazing but overshadowed by the tofu pocket. We went to the restaurant and placed a to-go order but next time, we plan on eating at the restaurant. It looked like an upscale, cute restaurant. Tips - Don't call the kimbab as sushi. They don't like that. My husband was called out for that :) This restaurant opened like a month back and don't take to go orders over the phone very well. This place exceeded my expectations! I am more of a traditionalist when it comes to Korean food so seeing menu items referred to as pockets and bedazzled gimbap did not fly very high on my radar of things to try. The pockets (inari) were surprisingly well balanced, I ordered the pork belly pockets and I may order them again in the future, maybe 2, maybe 4. I've had my fair share of inari in the past and it's pretty hit or miss for me, all the flavors and textures have to balance. I can only speak to the pork belly one and it definitely ranks up there. I tried the beef bone broth soup, I can see myself craving this particular dish. It tasted like something out of my mom's kitchen, the beef came off the bone with very little struggle, I hate having to fight my meal. The bowl of rice on the side was unexpected since these days most restaurants charge you extra for it if requested. The sauce on the side was chefs kiss, paired so well with the whole dish. My only complaint is that aside from the pockets, the prices seem fairly high. My beef soup dish was around $24 alone. Let's just say, my Korean parents would never happily dine here. read more

3.75 stars, but rounding up to 4 This is a "modern Korean" restaurant was one of the first things we were told as we were seated. After reading reviews online, we went in with little expectations, especially understanding that the food will be on the more "fusion" style. With that in mind, we thought everything was pretty decent. We did not get the gimbab or pockets, and instead opted for Dak-Gangjung (sweet crispy fried chicken), Pork Bulgogi, and Army Stew. Everything was decent, especially the Pork and the Stew. Pork was supposed to be spicy, but wasn't at all - our waiter told us next time we could ask for the note to be added and the chef (who we were told is Korean), would be happy to oblige since they had to "tone some of the spices" down for the clientele. Based on some of the info we gathered from talking to our server Kevin, seems like the owner/chef didn't shy away from actual flavors, but may have received feedback earlier on that might have changed that. So next time we'll be sure to ask and see if any modifications can be made when it comes to spice levels. It also sounds like the banchans may or may not have been given to guests at the beginning (or maybe you only get them when you order entrees), but we did get them without having to pay extra. Only kimchi and radish were provided, and we did like their flavors! We used to live in LA where Ktown reigns supreme, so we didn't and still don't expect Austin to have similar joints (at least not yet), but Ghama Zone didn't really disappoint. Be aware of prices. Nowhere in Austin can we get affordable food anymore, especially in a hip restaurant set up like this, so honestly that shouldn't really be a surprise. While the service was excellent and the food was beautiful, I can only give it a 3 star rating. It is quite pricey and parking can be a trial since it is in Main Street Round Rock. I got the spicy rice cake with mandu,(dumplings). It was good- but it needed more flavor and spice/ Korean food is basically salty, spicy and has umami- I also got the OG kimbab it was beautiful but sooo bland and weirdly wet. I will reserve judgement as I'm getting over a cold but at this point, my half Korean side was crying. The waiter was super sweet and offered to call the manager and assured me that the owner was Korean. I am very pleased with Ghama Zone. The service is excellent and I was checked on multiple times throughout the meal. The restaurant itself is very clean and well taken care of. The Army Base Stew was very good, as I find it can be quite salty at other places, but here it was good! The soy marinated eggs are very good as well.
