This is the best, most consistent of the 3 locations of this restaurant. The staff situation here seems fluid, but the service is always good - it usually only takes a couple of minutes from the time you place your order until you get it. There is no wait service here, you go through a line in front of the grill & prep area, and move down the line to the cashier & pick up area. Both the Beef and the Chicken Kabob Platters are nice, or you can get a Mixed Platter, with one of each. The platter comes with fries, pita bread, and salad - or you can get double salad in place of fries. The fries are ok, not great. The salad with their home made dressing is the best choice. I'm not wild about their sandwiches other than the Chicken Salad and the Tuna Subs. The Chicken Salad is especially good - it is nice and spicy. The Hummus is also very good. The Gyro here is just thin slices of dry meat with very little flavor, and the tzatziki is too mild to help much. The Italian Sub contains a kind of smoked ham that I don't care for, and the Steak and Cheese suffers the same fate as the Gyro. This place is a little pricier than it used to be because they've reduced their portion sizes, especially in the sandwiches - the Chicken Salad Sub is down a good 20% over a year ago. I ordered the New Chicken Shawarma Pita and it was delicious, however I thought it would be a little more spicy In a mild or garlic way and it was not. The menu says: "shawarma spiced chicken, Lebanese pickles, radish sumac salad, toum (garlic sauce)." The chicken actually lacked a bit of seasoning but it had a good flavor. The pickles and radish were great. The taboulli was nice and fresh & citrusy. Ghassan's is a mix of short order grill, sub shop, and Mediterranean restaurant. They serve mostly sandwiches -- hot and cold subs; plus filled pitas -- but also less portable renditions in the form of platters or salads. It's hard for me to feel very strongly about Ghassan's. There's nothing awful about this restaurant, but there's not much to get excited about, either. Since I have nothing to recommend highly, here's a breakdown of some things I've tried. The Double Kabob Platter ($8.49 for chicken, $9.79 for beef) is, naturally enough, two grilled kabobs, pita bread ($1 more for gluten-free pita), and your choice of two sides -- salad, fries, hummus, pasta salad, or carrots. Cucumber sauce doesn't come with the platter but can be added for $0.69. I opted to try their chicken, which was moist but a little oily and lacking in salt. The fries were fine. And the salad, which was composed of shredded iceberg, diced tomatoes, and cubes of feta doused in their house-made dressing was disappointing, not that I expected much. I think there are some simple things that could significantly improve the food I ate. First, the marinade for the chicken needs some salt. Second, the salad shouldn't be as oily as what comes off the grill. A higher proportion of vinegar in the dressing would help the most, but also better feta (which was mild and watery) would bring the tartness forward and diminish the out-of-place heaviness inappropriate to this salad. I also tried their gyro sandwich ($6.49) and a side of falafel ($1.99). Served with a pickle and small bag of chips, the gyro sandwich was dominated by lettuce, but also contained diced tomato and cucumber sauce, neither of which proved to be great enhancements. The gyro meat came in thin rectangular strips, that while not especially remarkable, were the savory center of the dish, and as such left me wishing for more than just a few pieces buried under what I personally experienced as a great lot of filler. The side of falafel (3 pieces) was decent and just shy of good. They did have a nice taste to them, pleasantly combining lemony coriander and warming cumin. I personally prefer a falafel with more cumin and less coriander, but it by no means tasted bad or wrong. My main complaint is that they were dry enough to be almost gritty. Hoping to alleviate this problem, I asked if they happened to have tahini sauce, which admittedly I didn't see on their menu. Although they did, the person didn't know what it was or otherwise didn't understand what I was asking for (though she kindly suggested their oil and vinegar dressing instead), so I ended up eating the falafel plain. Only later, after looking over their takeout menu, did I see that their Falafel Bites ($3.29) do in fact come with tahini dipping sauce, and while I'm not faulting the employee who probably just misheard me, the side order of falafel would benefit greatly from being served with tahini sauce as the norm. In the end, Ghassan's is fair. They are, after all, largely a short order grill turning out cheesesteaks and pita fare, and aren't pretending to much more. Nonetheless, I think they could improve their food without reinventing themselves, and my hope is that they do. read more

Never been inside, never paid for anything here and have only had the Steak & Cheese (guessing it's the combo as it comes with fries and a salad) but it's probably one of the best cheesesteaks I've had in a long, long time. I went to school in Philadelphia so had my fair share of good cheesesteaks (not Pat's or Genos but real cheesestaeaks - sorry to any loyal Philly folks who think Pat's or Genos is good, it's just not). My other half is from Greensboro and she had raved about Ghassan's for a while so when we were in town she called in an order and we picked it up (as I said, I've never been inside - she ran in and got it). The Steak & Cheese was amazingly good and large...add on the fries and the salad and it's a full blown meal, for two! We ordered two, but a couple could easily split one order. I don't live in Greensboro anymore, but I come back to visit it is always a treat to go to Ghassan's... and I make sure it go! My love of Ghassan's first started in high school when I would go to off-campus lunch from Grimsley to the Battleground location. I always get the steak and cheese, side of carrots, no chips or pickle. Now my parents live closer to the Cornwallis location, so I find myself there when I am in town. The service is quick, and the staff usually greets me when I come in. The steak and cheese is always delicious - just the right amount of steak with cheese and good Mediterranean flavor. This was my first visit to Ghassan's and I was not impressed. Price too high for small portion of food. I got a steak and cheese with fries. It was more like steak and lettuce, I couldn't taste the cheese so I searched for it and found a small slice. Normally food here is good and service is great. However, I Just ate here yesterday at got very sick from the food. No need for details. I don't think it was due to anything else because I hadn't eaten anything else yesterday. I think the grilled chicken on the salad was either old or undercooked or something, or maybe the lettuce wasn't washed well. I don't know the exact reason so maybe I'm wrong. My husband also got chicken here one time that was old. I usually love this place and the service, but don't think I will be returning again. I'm very sad because it was one of my go-to places for lunch in Greensboro. I don't want to write a scathing review like some people on Yelp who are psychos, and I don't want to discourage others from going here. Maybe my experience was just unique. A Greensboro tradition! Ghassan's delivers the goods each and every time. This review is for the Cornwallis store but could easily be carbon-copied to all three of these fine establishments. The consistency and repeatability between their restaurants is top notch. Solid every time at every location. I alternate between the steak and cheese (do not omit mushrooms, onions, or house dressing!), spicy chicken pita (franks hot sauce is addicting) and souvlaki (beefy goodness) depending on my mood. Don't forget to snag an extra cucumber sauce (or 2). The owner always keeps the Cornwallis lunch crowd entertained. I bet this guy hasn't missed a Cornwallis lunch in 20 years. Ghassan's ends up being my family's choice for dinner on many weeknights. Quick service, excellent food at a good price, free cookie at the register for the kids and a larger than life fish tank for the kids = dinner is DONE! I ordered the gyro because I was scared to order something new and risk not enjoying it but my husband order the shawarma and it was so good that I ended up swapping with him. I let them know that I have lettuce on it and they said will remake it for you they handed it back to me and they were still lettuce on it because they just tried to pull the lettuce off. I used to go to Ghassan's many years ago, and then moved away, and visited recently. So I thought I would get my favorite choice from this place: chicken kebab with double salad, no fries. The chicken kebab was just as tasty as ever. The lovely Greek salad dressing was perfectly yummy. What I was surprised about was that they now offer lots of other side items, not just french fries. I'm not sure if the above reviewer actually ate at Ghassan's. The steak in there subs is not the same as the gyro. Not at all! I've been eating at this restaurant since the early 80's when they only had the one location by the coliseum. They're food is wonderful! The steak and cheese sub is my favorite and has been a local staple for years . I always take friends from out of town there and have them try it. They always agree. My wife gets the single chicken with double salad instead of fries. The chicken as always tender and delicious. I order it sometimes when I'm not in the mood for a sub. I'm new to Greensboro and was eager to try this place...especially the famous cheese steak sub. I'm not impressed at all. I got the 6 inch cheese steak...chips...and a sweet tea. The sandwich was not hot and the cheese was not even melted. Not melting the cheese is a cardinal sin for Cheesesteaks in my book. Plus the price seemed a bit high. I eat at Ghassan's fairly regularly, and it is always delicious. I recommend Ghassan's skewers as well as their steak and cheese subs.

If I was asked to describe Ghassan's, one word comes to mind, Blah would be eat. Too expensive for the amount of food and nothing special when it comes to taste. If you're looking for decent Greek style food for a good price then check out Mykonos. They give you more food for cheaper and I personally think it taste better.
