Ghost Donkey is a super fun lounge style cantina that can quickly turn into a full blown, people dancing to cumbia in the aisles on the right night. Drinks are well thought out and full of Mexican flavor. They have great street style tacos, tostadas and while I've never tried their burritos I'm sure they definitely hit the spot as well. We came on a Friday and though we've been here numerous times before I was finally inspired to write this review because there was a gentleman that was bar backing he has sunglasses on in a dark cantina, Young maybe 23 or 24 tall Hispanic. In one moment I was a little frustrated because the bartenders were incredibly busy and there was little he could do to help make drinks. What I did not realize is how much he added to the entire vibe. He got out bubble guns and started flicking the neon lights and he even had a little gun full of tequila. Unfortunately he was scolded by another barback and sent back to the depths of the kitchen to take out trash. It was really unfortunate because he really made the party. I felt that in minutes I had traveled from Phoenix Arizona to Tijuana Mexico and as quickly as I got there I was sent back home. It was a fun trip though I wish it would have lasted longer. He really makes a vibe. Hopefully they will let him out of the kitchen. read more

We stopped by Ghost Donkey for a drink pretty late on a Friday night. We couldn't say no to a bar called Ghost Donkey. This Mexican-themed bar is located in a trendy part of downtown Denver within walking distance of several other spots. We parked on the street close by. Upon entering, they pat you down which is always a little much for me at a bar. It's not something that happens often but I guess it's an indication of who is there or something bad happening recently. We didn't have any issues that night but it is a bit off-putting. We were in and out pretty quickly. Shot of tequila and then out. The bar was pretty full that evening so it took us a couple of minutes to get the bartender's attention. Mostly Latinos there. I didn't try their food so I can't comment on the food. The vibe and the decor was nice outside of the initial pat down. read more

SO INSTAGRAM WORTHY! I tried to go to the Vegas location once and it was packed so I walked out, and was pleased to see one opened in Phoenix! I came for a drink and nachos. We sat at a table not sure if someone would come take our order or if we should go to the bar. After waiting for a while my date went up to the bar, and at that time someone happened to come to our table! My Stealth Margarita was great but I feel like it was missing something. My date thought his beer was pretty good. Nachos were a bit disappointing. They need way more toppings! Less than 1/4 of the chips had cheese on them. They were double layered so the picture doesn't quite show all the toppings, but it was still lacking. The flavor was right but there needed to be way more for the price. I might be back sometime to try other things, but maybe pass on the nachos if they're always this lackluster on toppings. read more

A cute little spot to have a drink or two. We waited in line for about 30 mins at around 9pm on a Saturday and realized it was due to the place being pretty small inside. All the seating areas were full so we stood at the bar for a little and tried to find an area to hang out. With it being a mexican inspired restaurant, they have mainly tequila based cocktails and we aren't tequila drinkers so we opted out for a beer and michelada. They burn sage inside so the smell could be a bit overwhelming at times. We weren't there for long but they have food and a cool atmosphere if you want to get there early to snag a table and hang out. read more

This was a crowded bar! Mainly because it's small and has a great design in a great location so it attracted a lot of people. Really loved this place & vibe. The lights on the ceiling are so pretty. Stopped in for a few drinks & an appetizer! I loved how they were playing a mix between popular music & throwbacks! The Burro Tropical was refreshing & light. Had the cutest garnish & is perfect for the summer! The Michelada was also so tasty. It was the best one I've had in downtown so far. For an appetizer we tried the Queso Fundido with Chorizo. It came with a good amount of chips for dipping & was a nice portion. It was a good balance between the queso & chorizo. Decided to take a walk over to Ghost Donkey after having brunch next door. Super cute vibe inside; loved the mood lighting and lounge feel. We both had the off menu donkey drink and we loved it. Ghost Donkey is pretty cool. The vibe is relaxed. Fits well downtown. Great lighting. Great music. Good food, although very limited in selection. I'd totally bring a date here. "Chill" is a good word to describe it. But not sloppy or lazy. It's a nice, sophisticated, chill. I sat at the bar. They also have a few tables and some casual cushioned seating areas off to the side. Service was a little slow at first. But after that it was smooth sailing. Since their wine menu was so basic, it tempted me to order the "red" (a Mexican blend of some sort it appears). It was probably too sweet for the serious wine drinkers I know. But I liked it. They had a cool looking menu of tequila and mezcal inspired cocktails. But I was just there for dinner. I did see them doing mescal flights of some sorts with the people next to me. It looked fun. I ordered the shrimp ceviche and the mole nachos. Both were delicious. The ceviche was served with corn tortilla chips, same as the nachos. So that got kinda boring. But it was still delicious. Especially with their hot sauce. It was addictive good. Shrimp, jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, and chips. Yum. The nachos were good. The mole sauce was perhaps a bit too sweet. But it was super yummy still. Adding their house hot sauce took it up a notch. The cheese looked like grated cheddar and jack. Not super Mexican and probably not the best choices to go with mole. A good oxaca cheese or even motzerella might have been better, and I'd love to see some queso fresco on top. I'm not knocking it because it was still yummy. But not "authentic" per se, and has some room for improvement. I'll be back. The vibe was great. The service was fun, friendly and prompt. And the food was a nice change of pace. I'd really like to see just slightly more variety. Like, offer the same mole chicken but in a tortilla as a taco or burro. Yum. Of the three neighboring concepts run by this hospitality group, Ghost Donkey is definitely the best! It's a Mexican-inspired cocktail lounge that sticks to a safe food menu of nachos, and a fun menu of tequila-heavy mixology. I would even go as far as to say their margarita is the best frozen marg in town. Featuring elderflower liquor and chili (I believe it's serrano?), it's sweet, spicy, boozy, and the coarseness of the ice is just right. I think that might be the hardest part! Beyond the classics, their small but accessible assortment of cocktails is adventurous and fun. I really enjoyed the Andale Pues, with Mescal, Thai Chili, and *champagne*. Brilliant! You can grab some bites here. It's all nachos, ceviche, or chips with guac, but it comes out fast and is easily sharable. I tried the chorizo nachos and they really hit the spot! The salsas were nowhere near spicy, and the arbol salsa in particular tasted like it had to have been a Taco Bell copycat. But who doesn't like that when they're buzzed? We were out on a rainy Thursday night checking out new and interesting places and stopped in for a snack and a couple of cold beverages. I'm honestly not sure what to think of this place? The guy working the door looked unhappy to be there like he just got a picture by text msg from a buddy or something of his girlfriend cheating on him he just looked mad. You walk in and I can see this place on a busy night being hard to walk around in. I would go back but there was nothing that made it stand out from any other tequila bar. There wasn't a lot of seating and the bar is small. Huitlacoche is a delicacy served in Latin American cuisine. It is a relative of the mushroom and grows on corn. Amazing flavor. Really enjoyed the drinks and the vibe. Bartender was very attentive and service was great. However, the security guard made me feel very uncomfortable. Kept shoving past me and shining his flashlight on my feet. The vibe he had, I was ready for him to shine it right in my face like a cop. I waiting for my friend to get her drink while this guy pushed past me about 5 times in 5 mins. Shooting me a dirty look every time. Maybe that's just his face but when I smiled at him, he looked even more pissed off. That being said, the doormen/bouncers were very nice and made us feel welcome. I can understand the allure of this tequila bar if you and one friend happen to go in there at just the right moment. Not too slow or not too busy. If you like mezcal like me they have lots of options, almost too much and probably collecting dust on the shelves. Quite literally there were staff dusting the donkey off while I sat, watched, and waited for someone to take my order. Apparently we had a waitress. She randomly walked by and said she was checking on us with a smile but she didn't serve us at all until we were ready to pay. So, I honestly didn't know who the tip was for but I really don't feel she earned it. If anything the bartender was there the whole time and didn't reappear just for the last interaction. Stopped by Ghost Donkey on a slow rainy Sunday. Unfortunately felt robbed when my friend and I ordered the nachos. They got to us cold because from where I was sitting, a booth across the kitchen window, I could see that they had been sitting out! No bell to let the floor staff know that it was ready to be served. Also, where was the floor staff? They were there when we walked in but they didn't greet us and we had to wait until the bartender finally made eye contact with us to order from him. I only got two chips, because my friend was hungry and I said I just didn't want to eat them since there was so little. He said I had to try, because shouldn't nachos be made to share?
