Ordered a few slices from Giardini Pizzeria & Restaurant on Saturday night. A value pizza spot, where you can get a solid slice quick. Quality: An underrated slice and a place I wish I had stopped at sooner. The pizza is a little on the doughier side and came out undercooked, but that worked well for me. Lots of cheese, and the red sauce had great flavor. The ricotta on the White Slice was excellent. Not too greasy or overly salty, found a happy middle-ground. I was not as crazy about the Garlic Knots, I wish I had gotten another slice instead. Quantity: Slightly smaller than usual slices, but the breading made it heavy. Value: $3.25-$4.75 for a Pizza Slice. $1.50 for 3 Garlic Knots. Ambiance: Giardini Pizzeria & Restaurant is a huge pizza spot in Carroll Gardens. The inside space is massive and they have a tented outdoor area extending it further. It seems completely unnecessary, as I rarely see more than one or two customers inside. The inside area has two small televisions both squeezed in the same corner. A radio played music in the background. Crowd: Two other customers, one grabbing a pie to-go, the other enjoying a slice there. Service: The guys behind the counter dole out the pizza and don't make small talk. Parking: Parking depends on the time, but usually is tough. read more

I had a darn good half of a Sicilian slice today. The square was so large, we decided to share and it was cut diagonally which was clever.. I used to frequent this corner pizzeria years ago but have been equally absent for several years. For one thing, I have been loyal to a couple other local favorites. In addition, your order here doesn't come with a smile. While many, if not most, of the pizzas on the counter looked a bit dried out, this Sicilian slice was so delicious: airy dough/crust, perfect sauce with the right amount of cheese. Once warmed, it immediately came back to life and was delicious.. They make personal pies as well as other pizza varieties. Buffalo anyone? Speaking for myself, I love the traditional style. Since I just made a comeback, I'll have to revisit a few more times to solidify my review or change it. But for now, it was real good. read more

Best slice I've had in a while, good quality cheese and plenty of sauce, perfect for the "saucy" types. Crust perfectly soft and crispy. Excellent slices and squares! When I used to live in the area back in the 90s, this was my go to spot. Decades later, the pizzas are still as good and I enjoyed it just as much. My daughter enjoyed it too, and the outdoor seating gave it a nicer experience. Good quality ingredients, great staff, and decent beverage options. First time customer, traveled from Los Angeles to try their pizza. Wow!! Was it worth it!! I had a slice of white, a slice of mushroom spinach, and a slice of pepperoni. All were awesome, but being old school, the pepperoni slice was my favorite. The sauce was so good and pure. Then Tony, the owner, surprised me with a couple of Zeppoles. They were puffy clouds of heaven coated in sugar, and oh so good. Can't wait till my next trip back. I'm gonna try a few more. Always pass this place on route to work and finally gave it try last week. Ordered a chicken parm sandwich, it was pretty good. Sauce could be better but the fact it was an actual sandwich and not what you get at a modern pizza shop. Do pizza places in NYC even make sandwiches anymore? Gen-X remembers a time when pretty much every single corner pizzeria was amazing in its own right. Going into the 90's, that started to change, and the trend has been monotonically trending downward ever since. In my neib, Midwood, we have Di Fara's, of course. But I honestly can't think of any other pizzas that knock my socks off. We have good ones, but other than Di Fara, none that really stand out. We were in Carrol Gardens and stumbled across Giardini. It looked good, so we walked in to get a pie and some calzone. The punchline is, Giardini really stands out. It's hard not comparing Giardini with Di Fara's, b/c Di Fara's is my "home turf", and I love both pizzas. The difference is, of course, that Di Fara's is known to be NYC's most expensive pizza, which is obviously not a contest anyone should want to win. What did I like about Giardini? The cheese was fresh and tastes beautiful. The average pizza these days is flavorless, but not this cheese! The sauce was not overly sweet. I still like *my* sauce better, but in terms of pizza sauce, this sauce is savory, not sickening sweet. It has a ripe tomato profile, which has sadly become elusive in the NYC pizza scene. To me, it screams "home made", definitely not canned. The sausage was savory and vibrant. Very fresh tasting, and not overly greasy. The same for the pepperoni. The vegetables on our pizza -- roasted broccoli and tomato -- was fresh, tasted delicious, and was done in just the right proportions. The calzone was unbelievably delicious (I ordered sausage - ricotta - meatball). What was I neutral on about Giardini? I wish our pizza box had a pizza saver since we were carrying the pie home. One one hand, a pizza saver really works when you're carrying a pie, but on the flip side, they're environmentally unfriendly, so I can't complain about this too much. What didn't I like about Giardini? Nothing. There's nothing I don't like about this place. If they were here in Midwood, we'd be going here exclusively for our pizza needs. read more

I so badly wanted to deduct a star for the ambiance... ok as a designer I just can't get over the popcorn ceilings, the tiles, the terrible lights, the green walls....where do I stop? but as I sit here at home enjoying my individual pizza with VEGAN cheese and I'm going to go for it and give a high five! Best mozzarella and tomato pizza I've had in a WHILE. As a pizza snob, I usually visit my local shop in Midtown between shifts. Today, my eyes have been locked in on this establishment. Granted it's small, but the friendly service and smells of FRESH pizza make it worth the commute. Let me restate that their food is FRESH. Nothing is harder to find, but more rewarding once found than a perfect Sicilian slice of pizza. As opposed to many round pies, the square goodness of a Sicilian has so many things that can render the slice an un-chewable mess. Giardini looks to have taken this to heart, and the outcome is a damn good slice. The place where every slice of Sicilian pizza lives and dies is in the base. If the slice itself is too doughy, its like chewing through a pile of rubbery tires. Too dry, the pizza tastes like eating a stack of matzo bread without any water. Here, the slice is, doughy without being overly dense or chewy. After securing a solid base, the sauce is the next place where pizzerias have been tripped up. Too sweet, its like eating a desert or some processed can of sauce. The sauce here was very good, but a little skimpy with the sauce and cheese covering. Finally, after the dough has been tossed, and the sauce and cheese have been laid, the cooking is where the magic happens. The slice I had had a perfectly cooked crust, without any of the usual burnt edges that are common in a lot of Sicilians slices. I've been to all the pizza places in Carroll Gardens and this place is by far the best. Quick, simple, not fussy, delicious. The cheese is great and the sauce isn't sweet like other other places like Via Roma. Just visited recently. The pizza was ordinary. Nothing fancy, but I have to give credit where it is due---you do get a huge portion. The tomato sauce was average. Maybe I am used to more garlicky or tarty sweet flavors. My favorites are My Little Pizzeria and Napoli. So I guess I am accustomed to a different taste. The wait was 10 minutes at most, and if you do come at 3 pm like I did, expect a huge barrage of demanding, hungry souls just released from the local school to be fed asap. The price of a slice was $2.50 and the garlic knots were $1 for 4 of them. I have to say they have really delicious garlic knots with fresh parsley and real garlic slices.
