This place is what a New York slice is all about! A no frills, tiny store that dishes out excellent pizza for about the price of a subway ride. I'm no Dave Portnoy, but this slice was nice and crispy, with an excellent undercarriage, and just the right ratio of sauce to cheese. One bite, everybody knows the rules. Really friendly staff/owner, and the shop is located right on top of the Union St stop, so it's perfect for grabbing a slice before hopping on the subway. Hard to go wrong popping by a local pizza joint as good as this! read more

We intended to go to another pizzeria, but that was closed for the day. Stumbled across this establishment and decided to give it a chance since we were fixated on satisfying our pizza craving at this point. Pizza here turned out to be delicious! Moral of the story: take the chance :3 All the slices range from $3.50-5.50 per slice. I ordered 5 different slice and it amounted to $25. It's cheaper when you pay with cash!!! Picked up a mushroom + ricotta, spicy supreme, buffalo chicken, cheese and vodka margherita slice. Super crispy and perfect undercarriage! We were eating this in the car and the slices held up so well. Great ratio of sauce and toppings as well. You really can't do wrong with any of the pizza here. Our final verdict is that this easily makes our top 5 pizzeria list! Glad we took the chance and got to try the pizza here. read more

In my opinion, Union Street's Square Upside Down Pie is the best Detroit-style slice in the city.

Placed a takeout order here to eat at Wild East Brewing Co since they don't have a kitchen but allow BYOF. Had heard good thing about this place before but this was our first time trying it. Knew we wanted a pepperoni pizza (comes with hot honey!) but were unsure if we wanted regular (New York style), Detroit or Sicilian. The latter two were thick slices for $24 whereas the medium was $20 for 6 standard slices. We opted for the latter, paid cash for a tax-free discount, and waited about 25 minutes (quoted 15, but they were fairly busy). I added some complimentary red chili flakes and basil (no parmesan available) and went on our way. Ultimately the pizza was good... but nothing special. It was thicker than typical thin-crust New York pizza, reminded me of Dominos in thickness. What ultimately threw us off the most was the crust as it fell off...? It was almost like after the roll out the dough, the cut the crust off, but leave there while it bakes, so it cleanly falls off after. It was weird. I guess if a place is known for a particular dipping sauce for the crust or stuffed crust, that could make sense, but ultimately we were left with very dry, very thick crust that was pretty bleh. While the food wasn't bad, it left something to be desired. I don't think we'll be back or try to seek out since there's so many other places to try in NYC, but if you decide to go, you'll still be satiated. Just not wowed. read more

Pizza is solid. Favorites are the mushroom slice and the pepperoni slice. Convenient for me, as it's right next to the subway stop and along my commute. The guy who is usually behind the counter is the nicest. Love how he offers to drizzle hot honey on whatever pizza you buy. I kind of like supporting this spot just because service is so great. Nice guys- helpful with placing orders over the phone and making substitutions/changes to orders that aren't listed on the online menu. The Detroit style pizza slaps!!! It's so thick and bready with a perfectly crispy and cheesy crust. I highly recommend anything with rosemary oil on it. Huge game changer!! Flew in on an evening flight stayed at a Hotel around the corner.... Found this place on Yelp... called to make sure they were still open... (Yelp more accurate than hotel guide). Answered the phone, were super friendly told us they were open... walked over grabbed a chicken parm slice a mushroom slice, a margarita slice and a pepperoni roll.... It was all really good... the nice guy behind the counter was super friendly and made some suggestions... even told us the would deliver to the Tru around the corner.... I came here because of another review that said the gluten free pizza was the best and it was pretty damn good! They were very kind in explaining the cross contamination there. I didn't get sick, but if you're extremely sensitive, it might not be the best spot for you. We had the mushroom rosemary white pizza and it was DIVINE, especially with hot honey drizzled over it. Used to order delivery when I lived in Park Slope, them was some good eats. I was back in Gowanus for a concert on Sackett Street and decided to stop in for some pre-show pizza. My girlfriend and I opted for a pepperoni Sicilian square and a slice of chicken bacon ranch. We waited briefly as the slices were reheated in the oven then sat at a table to eat them. Good, honest pizza! That's what it's about. Fresh ingredients, tasted recently baked, fairly priced. This is a neighborhood pizzeria with integrity and I salute them for it. Union St Pizza is a godsend. It's my new go-to slice joint ever since I saw them at the 5th Ave Fair and got their pepperoni slice with Mike's Hot Honey (SO GOOD). Their square slices are also amazing. I get pepperoni on top with honey, and it's f'n amazing. Love their mushroom slice too! Staff is friendly. Snagged a few slices of pizza from Union St Pizza on Monday afternoon. Solid quality and good prices will keep me coming back to this local pizza joint. Quality: Despite passing it frequently when using the subway, this was my first time stopping into Union St Pizza. It is exactly what you want from your slice shop. Fast, cheap, and a good variety of quality slices. During my visit, I ordered an okay Classic Cheese Pizza Slice, an excellent Buffalo Chicken Pizza Slice with added Hot Honey, and solid Grandma Pepperoni Pizza Slice. The standard pizza crust is a little thick, which is not necessarily my style, but it was only noticeable with the Classic Cheese Pizza Slice. It ended up being a huge benefit for the heavier Buffalo Chicken Pizza Slice, which they put together very nicely. They also have an assortment of other greasy snack items on the menu, which I would be happy to order during my next visit. Quantity: Fair size slices and the grandma style sizes are hefty. Value: $3-$5 depending on the slice. Ambiance: Union St Pizza is a tiny pizza shop right outside the Union St subway station in Gowanus. They have three tables inside as well as a standing bar along the right wall. It is not very big space, so grab and go is the best option here. Though they had a big television playing sports highlights in case you do decide to dine-in. Crowd: Two other people grabbing a slice during lunch, and they had a few take-out orders waiting. Service: Extremely friendly staff. They ended up leaving one slice in a bit long so it came out crispy and immediately tossed in another to make sure I was satisfied. I was in New York for five points festival, and I got to try this local place that was by my hotel. It was delicious. Also - the service was outstanding. I ordered two slices of pizza and one slice was "burnt" (I honestly didn't think so haha it just look nicely charred on the crust) so the server threw in another slice for free, and I got to keep the "burnt" slice. Union St. Pizza is the perfect remedy when you want some killer pizza at a SUPER reasonable price. I ordered for pickup last night, and it was only around 20 bucks for a large cheese; an absolute bargain for the size of the pie you get (spoiler, it's huge). These guys are expanding into the sandwich and french fry world as well. had I not just ordered an enormous amount of pizza, and know about this, I would have absolutely tried their sandwiches out*. The guys who run the place are SUPER friendly, and there is a cash discount if you happen to be carrying a few bucks instead of just plastic. I am a fan of Union Street Pizza. It is a great spot to grab a quick and cheap slice after a night out. Recently, they added chicken parms to their menu for 8$. The sauce is a little sweet but the chicken itself is pretty good for the price. I could do without the french fries or perhaps just ask for them a bit more well done. Maybe they are still trying to get the hang of it since it is a recent addition. Slices come out pretty quickly when ordering individually. They have a thicker crust which helps sop up the booze in your belly before heading off to your next adventure. The service has always been friendly and efficient. read more
