Our meal at Gibsons Italia was easily the MVP of our entire Chicago trip. Every single dish we had was excellent. The mushroom dish (likely their roasted wild mushrooms) was rich and deeply flavorful without being heavy. The octopus was generously portioned, perfectly tender with a satisfying bite. The beet salad was bright, refreshing, and beautifully balanced with a light sweetness and acidity that helped cut through the richness of the meal. The highlight, of course, was the Chicago cut steak. It was hands down the best steak we've had in the past year. The doneness was executed flawlessly -- beautifully seared on the outside while remaining incredibly tender and juicy inside. Absolutely perfect. Service was just as impressive -- warm, attentive, and genuinely helpful. The staff took their time to walk us through the menu and made us feel very well taken care of throughout the entire meal. My wife and I had an amazing time while celebrating her birthday. Fortunately I made reservations in advance because the bar downstairs was packed with people waiting to go upstairs. We were seated around 7pm and could see the beautiful skyline along the river while the sun began to set. The place was full and quite loud, but the upscale ambiance made our experience better. We started with the Foccacia bread since it is her favorite! The warm pillowy texture paired perfectly with the creamy whipped ricotta balanced by the acidity from the balsamic. For our mains I got the Chicago Cut Ribeye while she had the Squid Ink Seafood Linguine. We also shared a side of the Crispy Brussels Sprouts and some Fresh Cut French Fries. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare with a nice crust on the outside. I really enjoyed how they also provided an entire head of roasted garlic which I used to spread on top of the incredibly juicy and tender steak to further enhance the flavor. The Squid Ink Pasta was loaded with different seafood and the noodles had a nice bouncy texture. The brussels sprouts were so crispy and the flavors from the prosciutto, chilis, and truffle bourbon maple glaze was out of this world! The fries were so fluffy on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside which was perfect! I appreciate the staff giving her a complimentary birthday dessert which was a slice of chocolate mousse cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Visited Gibsons for a business dinner with clients. It was the perfect ambience for first time visitors to Chicago as a large portion of the two floor dinning room overlooks the river. It would also be a great choice for a special date night. Billy was an amazing server and walked the table through the suggested ordering cadence and top courses on the menu extremely well! The grass fed ribeye was good, but could've used a bit more seasoning to kick up the flavor. Had our last meal of 2025 at Gibson Italia. We had an early reservation (4:00pm) but the restaurant was already buzzing and the vibe was celebratory. Service was very, very good. A little slow with 3rd floor check in as 4 other groups were also waiting but not a problem. My partner and I don't really eat the same stuff so I was a bit anxious because everything looked so delicious I wanted to try all sorts of things, alas we figured it out. Our server was perfect. Available but not too available. Water service, bus service all on it. It wasn't overly noisy and could easily hold a conversation. We ordered as follows Arancini Garlic Focaccia w/the Parmesan fondue and added the whipped ricotta. Spicy Vodka Rigatoni Tomahawk Whipped/puréed potato's We skipped dessert. It was early and had a long night ahead of us, not to mention we were stuffed. Arancini Cacio de Pepe came first and was sumptuous. The sauce divine and would have been happy to have those 3 beautiful rice balls floating in it. My partner described it as,"oh yeah, yeah, mm-hmm" so no further explanation needed. The Garlic Focaccia w/fondue and ricotta well again, "yes, yep, oh yeah". Perfect. Light and airy inside, salty crust outside. Thank you, more please. If cheese and dipping is your thing go for both accoutrements with the bread. It's just a hint of garlic so not overpowering. Spicy Rigatoni was nice. Pasta cooked al dente and in bite size pieces. Not overly sauced or spicy but enough to break the richness of other choices. This would not have been my choice. I would have done the Risotto or a different pasta but my partner is a sucker for vodka sauce and it was his choice. No complaints. The Tomahawk with an onion and roasted garlic was beyond heaven. We ordered it medium (I would have chosen medium rare but in the spirit of comprise we went with medium) and honestly it was perfectly cooked and the extra degree was not even noticeable. We literally barefisted the garlic and squeezed it over the exquisitely deboned and sliced steak. "Oh my God" came streaming out of my mouth and I really wanted to pound the table but, well, I do have some self control. The whipped potato's were a nice compliment and very good but went almost untouched. Again, I might have chosen a second pasta instead but to be clear it wasn't needed. The Tomahawk was the main star and did not need any support. We also ordered a duo of sauce but honestly the steak did not needed anything else. The sauces were a nice to have just in case.... Two of us feasted like the king and queen we are (lol-or pretend to be a couple times a year) and then went on with the night. I did not consider it expensive and we spent $288 for the meal and added $100 for the tip, NYE and all. I did have a glass of champagne to start but we felt very satisfied and not regretful of our meal or the price. My mom was in town visiting for my birthday so I was sure to make a reservation weeks in advance. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get a good table, which I understand - probably most people dining here are celebrating something but I felt the gentleman who sat us came off very elitist actually naming the VIPs for each prime table. On the other hand, the rest of the night service was exceptional from the waitstaff and I loved their classy white suit jackets! After we were seated, we ordered cocktails, which were a little hit or miss. I loved the cosmopolitan but have had better espresso martinis. For appetizers, we got the focaccia (a must!) and the beet salad (which was strangely spicy?). And for mains, we shared the raviolo carbonara and fusilli pasta with mushrooms as a side. Even though I don't mind a runny egg, I did not care for the taste/flavor profile of the raviolo at all. Fusilli was fine but I surprisingly enjoyed the mushrooms most. What a stunning restaurant and exquisite food. We had a large group (10 people) who dined here for a friend's birthday. We had a table with a stunning view of the city. Our waiter was quickly attentive and got in our drink orders. As we all settled in, he was welcoming, celebratory, and took his time to explain the menu and specials available. It took about 30-45 minutes for our food to arrive. Which, for the group size we had and how busy the restaurant was, was very impressive. As usual for a steakhouse such as this, the sides were a La carte, which allowed us to order multiple and share. There was no way to narrow down these fantastic side options - crispy Brussels sprouts, hen of the wood mushrooms, and the special side which was house cut fries with Parmesan, garlic, and shaved truffle. They were all excellent. For a main protein, the 14oz Prime Angus filet mignon was exceptional. The crust on the outside was so flavorful, it was cooked to perfection, and was so tender. The no-alcohol and low-alcohol drink options are an excellent offering. My only complaint about the entire experience is that the bathroom situation is abysmal. For anyone seeking an unparalleled steakhouse experience, Gibsons' restaurants need no introduction. Gibsons Italia's menu features inventive Italian dishes together with the Restaurant Group's signature steak roster. The 2-level dining room is arranged so that all guests may enjoy the panoramic view of the Chicago River and downtown. The vibe is white tablecloth clubby and the soft lighting, spiked with svelte table lamps, is romantic. The attention to detail is extravagant right down to the RAK steak knives. On the weeknight of our visit, a polar vortex did not keep diners away. Every table was occupied and the mood was vibrant. Observing uniformed waitstaff parading down the aisles hoisting trays piled high with food, we could almost imagine them breaking into the song, "Be Our Guest!" from Disney's "Beauty & The Beast!" As the song goes, "We'll prepare and serve with flair ... A culinary cabaret!" The 43-page "Beverage Book" is a fun read. Prices range from a bottle of Michelob Light for $6 to a bottle of Domaine De La Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 2013 for $16,000 (hey, it's from one of Burgundy's two best vineyards). The list does offer a wide selection of reasonably priced wines by the bottle or glass. My Missus' birthday (a number divisible by 5) called for a splurge. Our shared starters were King Crab Bisque, Crabmeat Avocado Parfait, and Spicy Bucatini with Crab. Our entrées - Filet Mignon and NY Bone-in Strip Steak - were accompanied by sides of grilled asparagus and fresh-cut French fries. Every dish was superb. The dry-aged steaks, cooked medium-rare, were perfection, but the artistically plated Parfait was stunning and the Bucatini (a Chef's Special) totally blew us away. We would have preferred a mundane baked potato to accompany the steaks but were satisfied with the crispy and greaseless fries. We enjoyed our leftovers for dinner the next night. The restaurant served us complimentary desserts and coffee. The Sorbetto Trio, small scoops of intensely flavored berry, mango and lemon ice, was a perfect light finish. My Missus declared the Banana Gelato Tart to be one of the best desserts she's ever had. Gibsons' hospitality and service are of the highest standard. Our thoroughly knowledgeable server noted my Missus' aversion to cheese and offered some great suggestions. Water glasses were topped off continuously and appropriate utensils were placed before each course. Our meal was well-paced and we were never rushed. The staff had to deal with 9 of us which can be a lot, but he did a great job attending to our needs. We were given share plates that were not clean, mine had visible debris on it and had not been washed properly. These should be checked prior to being handed to the guests. 2. The kitchen sent out the wrong order to our table and took our steak plate back to the kitchen to fix the plating and remove the extraneous item. I then had the lobster appetizer. Waiter said it was like 6oz of lobster which was not true. They dressed it up like we were getting a whole leg split, but only one side had any lobster. The sauce with it was good. Then I had the beat salad which stated it included candied pecans but when the salad came there were none to be found. I had the risotto with scallops which was good, but not worth coming back for and my husband enjoyed his meatball sandwich. The deserts were nothing special. I did not like the "baked Alaska" and the banana cream was just ok. Again, pay for more and get less at this restaurant. When the bill came prices were more than what was on the menu so be careful. They were a little bit behind on our reservation time but they have a full bar on the 2nd floor that you can sit at while you wait for your table. If you sit back in the semi circle booths you can still see the city but the light is not as bright and also not in your face. We ordered the heirloom tomatoes which i HIGHLY recommend. They came with a homemade dressing that was like a ceasar salad dressing but not quite. The tomatoes and urugula were so tasty with the dressing! We also ordered the king crab bisque--delicious! Then we got the 13 ounce sirloin and chicago cut. We were sharing everything so they brought it out presliced on a large wooden block along with two halves of a toasted garlic bulb and roasted shallots. We ate the steaks with the garlic and it was very good. I preferred the sirloin over the chicago cut in terms of flavor. The meat was very good but not over the top amazing as I have had in terms of steakhouses. We also got a couple of pasta dishes-- the cacio E pepe and the spicy rigatoni. Both were excellent! We ordered the sangiovese red wine and it paired well with the steak. It was light and not too heavy. The service was attentive and the waitors are very much down to earth here, making attempts to connect with the customers and accommodate their needs. That makes it stand out for me. The restaurant itself is quite elegant and formal, definitely a great spot for date night or celebrations. Ask for a table next to the window for a great view. Arancini: 5 of 5 - full of flavor and not greasy to eat. There is a smooth creamy texture to the dish and a bit of a strong cheese flavor. Italian chopped salad: 3 of 5- It is a light salad despite the meats. However, the flavor is solely from the meat so I'd probably get a ceasar salad next time. Double Baked Potato with Ricota: 4 of 5- Very tasty dish with lots of texture variety despite it being soley made of potato. It is very large and can get tiresome to eat. The flavor can get boring if you are trying to eat it all at once. Spicy Rigatoni: 5 of 5- outstanding flavor and pasta cooked to perfection. Highly recommend this dish. 7 year Aged Risotto with Scallops: 5 of 5- cheesy and robust flavor. Can be a bit sour to people who don't like cheese. This may be one of my favorite dishes and I would/will order this every time I come to this establishment. read more

Gibsons Italia was delish! I ate on their bar level that had a nice view of their wine cellar with plenty of regular seating since I don't really like sitting at the bar with a group of people. My waitress was very helpful! She answered all my questions and provided great recommendations. I enjoyed the garlic focaccia which was nicely seasoned, the Caesar salad, the 7oz filet which was cooked accurately to my liking (medium), and truffle fries. read more

Ambience amazing ... right on the river. Romantic. Great for couples and biz groups. Different floors for different things. One floor has a big bar and food. The other floor has a bigger focus on fine dining and beautiful views of the buildings and river. Outdoor seating also ... super picture worthy. The food is tasty ... pricey but good. You are paying for the location here. Limited street parking but there's a parking garage a few steps away at Riverbend condos at 333 N Canal Street. read more

We made reservations for 8pm and our table was ready at 7:55pm - that's when I KNEW they were going to blow us away! Thank you to all the folks whose names we didn't catch - the hosts on the first and second levels, the bussers, and the bartenders! Our reservation was for our 10th wedding anniversary - and we were seated with an incredible view of the city/river. The food and drinks were delicious (steaks, pasta, sides) but especially the focaccia bread as an appetizer. The real star of the show was our server, Sabrina! If you've never met sunshine in a person, you should make your way here and request Sabrina as your server. She was incredibly attentive and had excellent recommendations. She absolutely made our experience great, along with all the other things she did for us as congratulations on our big milestone. Highly recommend this restaurant! read more
