This was my first visit and very happy that I stopped by. I loved the view. It sure showcases our beautiful river and architecture. I don't understand why more restaurants don't showcase our beautiful waterways. The city should do more to incentivize the building of more restaurants and safe walkways long the river. We already have the best food scene in the country. Why not make it better? The incentives put forth by the city will quickly be repaid in taxes generated by increases in food tourism. Yes, food tourism is a thing! Just ask anyone who has traveled to Rome, Madrid, Paris, Lyon, or San Sebastian. I bet, if asked, that the food is within one of their top five reasons for visiting these great food destinations. There are quite a few buildings along the river that are underutilized after work hours and on weekends. It's a win, win situation. Anyhow, I did like that fact that there was plenty of parking lots within a short walk of the restaurant if you don't opt for the vale parking. The walkway along the river here is beautiful with a very low amount of foot traffic. When you head into the River North or Fulton Market areas be prepared to face lots of congestion, which was not the case here. This is a huge plus. How was the food? Over the years I have eaten at several Gibson restaurants and have never been let down. As a matter of fact, I know I'm in for a very good experience when I see their name. Italia did not let down. The employees were very hospitable and professional. I started and enjoyed the excellently prepared charred octopus and chopped Italian salad. I then moved on to the 75 day dry aged boned in filet which was excellent. Also, I enjoyed the perfectly cheese balanced cacio e pepe. I ended the meal with very well-prepared tiramisu. After numerous attempts, we finally made it to Gibson's Italia for lunch. And IT WAS WORTH IT! We had reasons to celebrate - graduation, anniversary, birthday, and the staff were accommodating - they allowed us to order the Raviolo Carbonara from the dinner menu, and gave us a Spumoni Baked Alaska for dessert. The Raviolo Carbonara alone is reason to visit - a perfectly shaped ravioli with crispy prosciutto and Parmegiano Reggiano and truffles dusting the outside, and an oozing egg yolk when you cut into it. Delicious! Everything else was fantastic - the steak lover in our family got the NY Strip and raved about it. I tried the charred octopus and it was perfectly cooked, firm yet soft with a nice balance of flavor. The salads, the pastas, each one was spectacular. All with an amazing view of Chicago. There was some bustle and really good energy in the restaurant. Our server was polite and quite amazing. The drinks were also delicious. I ordered a ribeye steak which was one of the best I've had. I also tried some of their fries which were delicious. They served a mashed potato dish which was also exceptional. The one complaint I have is the bathrooms. There appeared to a lack of them. Came here for a dinner date with hubby on 3/3/24. I didn't know that Gibson's had an Italian restaurant so I was excited to try it. I always wanted to go to a Gibson's restaurant and this was my chance. Walk in and I was totally WOWED!! The restaurant is so beautiful! The views are amazing! They seated us at a cozy table for two where you are sitting right next to each other which was super romantic! We had the absolute BEST waiter - STEELE!!! He was phenomenal from beginning to end! Everything about this restaurant was stellar - the suits the waitstaff wore, the ambiance, the food!!! There wasn't anything mediocre about this place at all! A man proposed to his girlfriend that night which was great to see. The noise level is perfect, not too loud and not too quiet. I cannot wait to come back and this time we will sit by the window to enjoy the spectacular views. Kudos to this establishment for having an Italian version as I love Italian. The treatment was so sweet and every thing I had was yummy. Some of the items we tried and loved were: *truffle fries - delicious, crispy and flavorful, I could not stop munching on them *beet salad - this was so refreshing and delectable, I loved this and how fresh it was. I would definitely order this again *focaccia bread with ricotta dip - super freshly made with the most yummy dip! Definitely a must order * cacio e Pepe pasta - this was on the creamy side but more okay, my least favorite pasta * rigatoni - this pasta was delicious and so flavorful in the tomato sauce. Enjoyed this thoroughly *stuffed pasta - this was cheesy and creamy while Delicious and not too heavy. I really enjoyed this * scallop risotto - this was super yummy and the scallops were perfectly seared. Enjoyed every bite *brussel sprouts - these were crispy and flavorful. I made the mistake of ordering their "new" fish pasta dish. Apparently, it's only been on the menu for a month and it shows. The pasta was reasonably well-cooked and came in a rich, buttery garlic sauce (ie, fine but boring). The five shrimp were large but were overcooked and tasted of chemicals. The mussels and clams were so overdone that I let the waiter know. He agreed and brought out another set of mussels ... also overdone. Mussels should be plump and juicy, not so cooked that they appear to be the size of a dime and the texture of shoe leather, with a flavor resembling old socks. And the 50 dollar price tag for pasta and some old seafood? One word: ridiculous. So why two stars? Well, I clearly ordered poorly. The ambiance is nice. Dessert was good. The steaks looked good. My dining companion enjoyed her pasta dish. But I won't plan to go back. There are so many better places in Chicago! read more

Luckily we found out about this place, which is just as good and has an amazing view of the river. Despite its name, you can get the full steak experience here, with less of the 'can we get in' angst. We walked down to the location at 10:30am on a Monday. It opens at 11am but they let us wait inside as there was some rain. When the place finally opened we were able to take the elevator upstairs and were greeted by attentive and pleasant staff. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some great recommendations. They have wagyu beef! Oh wait, they also have ('not officially Kobe') beef (see menu photo). They call it A5 Miyazaki ribeye beef which is flown in every day from Japan. Oh and it's $140 for 4 ounces. It is flown in every day from Japan. That is dedication. Not something any self-respecting food lover can resist. They have dry aged porterhouse. And Australian grass-fed Filet. But wait, what is that down there? A 34ounce TOMAHAWK Wagyu steak. Wagyu AND tomahawk? OK. In one of those "in for a penny, in for a pound" moments, well, you know what happened next. We ordered the 4 ounce Japanese steak AND the Tomahawk. Amazing mushrooms, oh and truffle fries because of course we did. The bar area is large, modern and inviting. The view is actually stunning, with a wide panoramic view of the river and downtown Chicago. It was a beautiful day with a wonderful person as we prepared ourselves for what was to come. The 4 ounce steak came out first, which was good, as it allowed us to focus on that. It was laid out with medium slices and to be honest it looked like a decent portion by itself. Perfectly cooked with a light crisp on the outside and light on the inside. Came with charcoal black salt and wasabi. It was like no steak I have ever eaten before. I know it's a cliche, but it really does melt in your mouth. You only chew to maximize the contact of the meat on your taste buds. Slowly and with eyes closed to get the maximum benefit. After the semi-life-changing experience that was the small Japanese beef, came the second plate which stood head and shoulders beside its formidable previous course. Behold, a pyramid of perfect fries topped with grated cheese and truffles and a bowl of Maitake mushrooms. The tomahawk came out of a huge wooden butcher block. It had been expertly cut up into easy to grab pieces of perfectly cooked wagyu beef. Tender on the inside with a deliciously dark, crunchy bark. For a cut of meat so large, the vast majority it was very good which meant we filled up and then some. So good. So bad of us, but worth every penny and moment. I'll preface my review with stating, maybe I simply ordered the wrong dish. I came in with high hopes because I love Gibson's steakhouse and wanted to try some of there fresh homemade pasta at their Italia restaurant. The place itself is very nice, its very upscale and has an awesome view of the river. The appetizers were pretty good, with the King Crab Bisque and Acquerello Arancini. I ordered the Cacio e Pepe for the main dish and was very disappointed. It basically was a bowl of pasta sitting in gallons and gallons of butter (ok maybes that's a little bit of an exaggeration) I would not get this dish again, and would not recommend it to anyone. Again, maybe some of their other pasta dishes are the way to go, but if you're a big Cacio e Pepe fan I'd suggest looking for an alternative option. read more

Decent but not wow. When we arrived a few minutes before our reservation we were told we would be seated in a bit and advised to enjoy a drink in the bar. The cocktails in the bar were good. Had a hugo spritz that was delightful. We enjoyed those as we waited for our table. Our table in the restaurant was fine. It was a nice booth. I understand tables by the window are limited. Elizabeth was our server and she was lovely. As was Valdemar who assisted and was charming and attentive. We got a bunch of appetizers to share. The focaccia is incredible. The octopus has great flavor. The beet salad was good (but I still can't figure out what made it so spicy.) The prosciutto mozzarella dish was just average and definitely a skip next time. The pasta were kind of disappointing. The steaks were great, but I expected a lot more from the pasta. The spicy rigatoni wasn't spicy at all. It didn't taste like much of anything actually. And the cacio e pepe was average. However, our party also ordered the risotto with scallops which I did not eat, but heard was phenomenal. The brussels sprouts were fantastic. So our friends totally splurged for our early 20 year anniversary and we went through all of Gibson's most delicious things, methinks. Overall, as the name implies, the Italian fares were actually the best. Service was stellar, but expected with the vibes inside. And as expensive as this place is, it was packed full with happy customers. While waiting to be seated, I saw one of the greeters at the entrance floor sneak in some instant cup noodles lol. Same goes to the fries. Ravioli Carbonara and Spicy rigatoni Spicy rigatoni was great, but the raviolo carbonara was A-mazing. I'd come back just to have the ravioli again, without anything else. Egg yolk oozed out from inside, and it had a perfect amount of everything that makes a perfect ravioli. This is coming from a Korean gal who loves mandu more than Italian any day of the week. Except if it's at Gibson's. Crispy brussels sprouts It looks delicious, but it wasn't as good as my favorites in town. Mini royal platter I didn't think the lobster was as great as the king crab, but friend thought the opposite. So go figure. Shrimp was totally tasty. Oysters themselves weren't the most, bestest I've had, but good. Came with the cutest little tabasco bottle ever. Wagyu beef tartare OK, ignore what I had said about coming back only for the Ravioli. I'm coming back for this tartare too. Which reminds me... Focaccia bread I also need to go back for this bread. Mind you, I'm on keto. Lol. But I'm still going back for this bread, the ravioli, and the tartare. Veal milanese, porterhouse Veal was ok, but I've had much better Milanese. Porterhouse you can't go wrong with... And by this time we were so full that I'm afraid I'm not being totally just, but there it is. Corkage fee was $30. Chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream I thought they were offering us this dessert on the house because it was our 20th anniversary and we had ordered so much food already, but no. In fact, for having said this was such a special occasion, there wasn't much congratulations or special treatment for it. The cake was really good though. I always add more salt to mine and dip it in the balsamic. I dream about this bread for weeks after! We're not big pasta people but the spicy rigatoni is out of this world and will certainly please anyone! I'm not sure what they do but the pasta is always cooked to perfection and the sauce has just the right amount of heat. Pro tip add grilled chicken! We've had a little bit of everything here! My friend ordered the BEST Brussels sprouts I have ever tasted. They were amazing! They had Crispy prosciutto, red finger chili, maple glaze & Parmigiano Reggiano. Fantastic flavors all around. The hen of the wood mushrooms had Wagyu fat, chives, fiore red wine sauce. And last but not least the brazino was a great choice! I ended my meal with the SBA SP UMONI BAKED AL ASKA. I had to put that in all caps because what a dessert! Neapolitan icecream on a sheet of cookies I believe. They have cream and pour orange liquor and set it on fire! My wife and I had the most wonderful experience today 4-11-2026. We celebrated our anniversary with a lovely feast. Ivan was our waiter and he was THE BEST. The entire staff at Gibsons was first class. I'm not a fine dining guy but I felt right at home. Everything was perfect, can't wait to return! read more
