Employees though knowledgeable are NOT friendly. Most of them are gruff and grouchy, and do not speak in a pleasant, helpful tone. They sound annoyed and irritated when asked for help. I get the feeling that they don't enjoy their work nor consider it their job to be nice to customers. I witnessed firsthand the rude response given to a customer in front of me at the check stand and saw the resentment on the customer's face at being treated in a disrespectful manner. My shopping experience there has generally been unpleasant. It's my last resort store. Their employees need training in the area of giving service that values and respects every customer who walks through their doors. Until that happens, I will limit my trips to that store to once or twice a year or avoid it altogether if I can help it. It's a pity because they do have a good selection of goods albeit on the pricey side. read more

Service: Chainsaw I took my Stihl chainsaw in to Ace Hardware to get the fuel filter, air filter, and spark plug changed and the carburetor adjusted. When I went in to pick it up, I received my saw in pieces...I got a bag of parts and was told that some parts were missing in my saw, which is just not possible. The saw had been running just fine prior to this. I just wanted some maintenance done. To boot I was charged $40 for "analysis". Needless to say, I will never take anything to this store again for any reason. Since I got a non-functioning saw back from Ace, I took it down to a local feed store in Port Orchard for service. The mechanic there could only use the word "idiot" for the people that messed up my saw. He changed out the parts I wanted replaced and had the saw up and running in a few minutes. The carburetor just needed a little tweaking. My advice to anyone needing repair work done on equipment is to avoid this store. What a mess! Please find a qualified mechanic to do your work for you. Ace doesn't have them. read more

We moved here about 3 years ago and were pleased to find a good local hardware store like the one we had to leave. The have a good selection and good quality products. I like the at home attitude of the employees. They are all very nice. I will say the store is a bit expensive. I would price shop before purchasing from here unless you are in a pinch. That is usually why I find myself in here. Needs something now. read more

I have to disagree with one of the above reviews. The Point Fosdick Ace Hardware is more likely to have "obscure" items than most other similar locations. I use a lot of of such "obscure" items in prototyping, and I am FAR more likely to find what I need at the PF Ace than, for instance, Home Depot or Lowes. And the service is "as good as it gets". Helpful, cheerful, and knowledgeable. And if a particular staff member doesn't know, they all have and wear radio links, and can and will call in the "staff expert" in that area on a moment's notice. read more

I have always been a big believer in shopping local merchants first, even if the cost is a little higher. Yesterday I received the worst customer service I think I have ever received in any retail store, from the Point Fosdick Ace. When I asked if a item was on sale, the on-duty manager argued with me, to the point where she was yelling and I just stood there amazed while she lectured me on why this was not the item on sale. She then proceeded to rip it out of my hands and put it back on the shelf. Now mind you I had already paid for the product (so at this point- she was stealing). I then told her she was being disrespectful and walked away before she lost it more. I went to the front desk & asked for my money to be returned for the item she "returned" for me. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT ACE AGAIN! The helpful, friendly neighborhood place- I think not. read more

What a great experience at Ace Hardware. My wife and I went in to look at trees for sale in their Nursury. Kathy McGhee helped us pick out the perfect tree that we just love. She showed us which started to purchase, explained in detail how to plant it, and Kathy was joined by Sandy and they painstakingly arranged and secured it in our SUV. They worked until it was secured to their satisfaction to make sure it would get to our home without loss of leaves or any broken branches. You could not ask for any better service. Gig Harbor WA has the best Ace Hardware around. Lois is sooo helpful. Even had the firepit we purchased for my husband for Fathers Day put together for us when we picked it up. This store has personnel problems. Just a simple transaction a making keys and I ended up with someone elses keys that I discovered several days later. Then my call to them was so confusing it was like talking to a crazy person. I love to shop local businesses, but this is the 2 or 3rd time I have had very strange interactions with the staff. read more

This is more than just a hardware store. They have a great gift section. In the last 3-4 months I have bought everything from a doormat to kitchen towels to a shower rod here. Great variety! Sometimes the cashiers are a bit aloof/not instinctively helpful. read more

We have been going to this Ace several times a week for many years. Most of the time the service is good - however, when you return an item - service goes out the window. I purchased Hanukah candles this week - they were the wrong size. My husband returned them today - with the receipt and the box perfect. The woman at customer service asked him if he had used any candles - he said no, they were simply the wrong size. She obviously did not believe that, and said she needed to count all the candles to make sure they were all there. Really - she made him wait several minutes while counting. It was obvious on opening the box that not one more candle would have gone in. He finally received the refund for $8.95. I think these folks need to attend the Nordstrom Customer Service School. read more

By now those of you who have read some or all of the above reviews should notice an obvious pattern. The store is well stocked with practically everything a homeowner (DIYer) needs for most projects. The staff working the aisles and departments are generally polite and knowledgeable. The front end staff however is sorely lacking in every way imaginable. There is a serious lack of basic math skills, people skills and general knowledge of the store and its contents. Making what should be a simple return is complicated and time consuming and frequently adversarial. The geriatrics who populate the staff are rude and condescending with an attitude that would suggest I am fortunate that they even acknowledge my presence. Like many others I too try very hard to keep my business local and small scale however this store has lost my allegiance, permanently. In the future I will pay a toll if necessary to avoid the Gig Harbor Ace. read more

I am new to the Gig Harbor area and was told I could get a fishing license at Ace Hardware. When I walked in to the Ace on Fosdick Dr. and asked if I could get my fishing license here, I got a very rude response from one of the workers. He was so rude to me and told me "it was the OTHER Ace Hardware not this one" Well, first I didn't know there was another Ace in GH and second he did not have to make me feel like an idiot. I have spend a lot of money in this Ace since moving to into a new house but will go elsewhere now for sure. read more

If you can't find it anywhere else, you are probably going to find it at Ace Hardware. I love this store. The gift area is top-notch. I always find something for that hard-to-shop-for person here for Christmas. The garden area is great, too. The people who work here are SUPER friendly and very, very helpful. They even have some young kids working there who are of the highest character. The only downside I can see is sometimes the prices are higher ... and I wish they had a little more stock of garden starts in the spring. But it is worth it going to Ace in Gig Harbor! read more

Fantastic customer service and great home-town feel at this store. Not the greatest prices though, but still a place we love to shop.

Had a bad experience at the Pt. Fosdick store. With so many staff people on hand you'd think they know their stock better, they were confused about their sale items and couldn't check their inventory system like most other companies use these days. Had to order item online when I got back home and then had to make two trips back to the store before they finally located the order. Acehardware.com has a great free shipping option of sending your order to the local store for pickup. Got scolded by Lois about how their Gig Harbor stores are separate from the Ace Hardware corp. and that they have no part of online orders except handing over the order to the customer. That's fine but they could have been pleasant about it rather than rude. I guess they don't make anything off of the online purchases and she had a problem with that. I then had to load the heavy box myself as they abruptly closed the loading dock door on me. Lowes and Home Depot have always helped me load up heavy items. Oh well, lesson learned, I won't be back to the Pt. Fosdick store. read more
