Had a nice dinner with my mother last evening. Very attentive server and great food. My mother enjoyed the steak with peppercorn sauce and I had the blackened salmon. I'm obsessed with Gigi's I think they have some of the best food in State College! The picture here is the pimento dip which is PHENOMENAL comes with bread & veggies and is so delicious. They don't skimp on the dip which is nice so I usually have enough to take home after. I also highly recommend the vegetarian ravioli. The service is great as well, last time I went my friend and I got a free mimosa. I also think it's one of the cutest restaurants in state college the decor is very eclectic and southern. Our server was wonderful! The ambience is great! The food is overpriced for what you are served. It was good, but not amazing. At their prices, it should have knocked our socks off. It didn't. The cocktail prices are ridiculous! $16 for an Old Fashioned that has regular old ice cubes in it and not a large cube of ice as is standard for a SIXTEEN $$$ drink. The IPA that I was drinking was $9.50. I had the same IPA two days earlier and the price was $6.00, just to put that into perspective. We won't be back. read more

I am not one to normally leave reviews, but after the meal I just had, I felt the need to share. I had the pleasure of joining a friend this weekend for dinner. While we have always loved our meals, this past weekend we were blown away by a new menu. Some classic favorites stayed the same, like the biscuits (however, they may be even better now) and gumbo, the new twists on dishes is just what Gigi's needed. The Kobe burger is unique and well worth the visit alone. I'm so excited for this new menu and the direction it is going. Literally a shit show. We all agreed that this was probably the worst dining experience in recent memory. We were a table of 5 nurses, so we fully understand the obstacles with the pandemic. Arrived 15 minutes before our 8 pm reservation, not seated until 8:20, sat without menus or water till 8:35, after seeking out help, turns out it was a touch free scan code menu (why not leave that on the table like every other restaurant we've been to?) Leave it taped flat to the center flower pot. Still no drinks by 9:10, all 4 of the dishes we had considered were unavailable when we went to order. ( Marscapone ravioli, Crab Cakes, Shrimp and Grits and Steak/Crab combo) Eventually the food arrived and was hit or miss. Burgers good, Brisket good, French Onion soup good. Up charge for scant amount of sweet potatoes fries that were excellent but not the smashed uncooked potato that was inedible. House salad drenched in a very acidic dressing and an off goat cheese, left pretty much untouched and cleared by server without noticing or commenting. Outdoor seating is in a completely sealed tent with not much more ventilation than inside, probably less since there is not circulation. We thought it was going to be picnic tables that we had read about and dressed accordingly. Sad table way in back corner did not provide any of the charming restaurant atmosphere that was so memorable, especially with 2 of us facing the tent wall. Worst part ? The wasted $170 bucks and stellar 70 degree evening that was supposed to be enjoyed outside in the fresh air after a long day of travel to the State College area. Lots of apologies and a generous extra basket of complimentary biscuits and butter did not stop us from cancelling a second reservation that we had for tonight. It's a big no from me! We so eagerly anticipated returning after having an excellent meal at the bar on our last trip to State College. We were seated around 8:20 for an 8PM reservation, which is expected on a Saturday night. Things went decidedly south from there. We were shown to 3 small tables cobbled together in a forlorn and forgotten back corner of the outdoor dining area for a seating of 5. We politely requested one of the unoccupied round tables so we could converse with our guests who we hadn't seen for months, but were not accomodated. We were ignored for 15 minutes, no menus, no water, no place settings, no opportunity for a pre-meal cocktail. At 8:35, we were finally acknowledged, just minutes before Lisa said she was going to lose her s**t. We scanned a touchless menu from a QR card our server brought to the table. Why these QR codes were not here, printed, and ready to use makes no sense. We were told that a majority of the main entree items were no longer available, including three dishes we had already decided on based on their online menu. This left us with limited choices. Knowing what was to come, we ordered drinks and meals at the same time. Our order was taken at 8:45, my salad came at 9:00. Drink orders were were seriously delayed, when we inquired of the manager, she just kind of laughed it off. When they were finally served at 9:06, the mint julip arrived without a straw, which 10 minutes later required Lisa E. to go to the bar and get herself. The julip turned out to be undrinkably harsh and unbalanced. Mojito substituted was better, and they did take the 1st drink off the bill. Dinner was served at 9:25. Smashed potato which was an upcharge, was mysteriously difficult to cut with a steak knife. I settled on the house burger, which was ample and juicy, but ordered rare-med rare, it came out medium well done. 1 star was for the excellent sweet potato fries and the biscuits with honey butter. The table seated after us, at the nice round table ,a party of 3 had their drinks, apps, meals, and dessert and offered settling the bill in the time it took for us to get our entrees. Our Governor is a dolt and an idiot. We wanted to dine out and it's winter in Pennsylvania. This is not California or Florida, so outdoor dining is not an option. It is here at Gigi's. Brilliant idea to have transparent domes and heaters. Seats are comfortable and your shoes are comfortable resting on a nice carpet. We sat at an eight-top in one off the larger "bubbles"with two haters. Temperature was just right. In summary, we prefer Gigi's to be open indoors, but they're doing a nice job of abiding by Wolf's ridiculous mandate and still offering fine dining. read more

We went to Gigi's on Saturday night. I tried booking a reservation about a week or more in advance and a 5pm was the only time available. I am so glad I took it because Gigi's didn't disappoint. From the appetizers of gumbo and biscuits to entrees like the jerk chicken tacos, salmon and crab cakes, every bite is amazing! The smashed potato was so tasty along with the salmon dill sauce. The restaurant was pretty empty when we were there and I thought it was really aesthetic with their decorations. But the service was pretty good! The only thing was that the check took forever to come out. But otherwise it was a good experience. The food was overall okay. I thought ordering the southern fried chicken would have like a bone being a drumstick or wing. But they were just tenders. The crab cakes were okay. Not 100% fresh crab. We use to love GiGi's Southern Table, but last night we were excited to introduce our friends to one of our favorite restaurants, and everything we ordered was subpar. Definitely not worth the price we paid of $260 for four people. The steak was much smaller, cooked medium as I had ordered, but was very, very tough and unfavorable. The green beans that came with it were basically raw, not even al dente. The mud pie I got was just a frozen version that I could get at the grocery store. My husband, salmon was okay, but not the same quality, size or taste he had gotten before. Definitely a much smaller portion. I was embarrassed that I had raved about this restaurant so much and sorely disappointed it is not the quality it used to be. I do not believe we will go back to this restaurant. In a nutshell... Exorbitant prices for small, inadequate, not very flavorful portions. read more

Ribeye totally undercooked my colleague ordered medium it was very rare should have sent it back but after a 12 hr travel day he was too tired to wait. I'm honestly shocked this place doesn't have higher reviews. I've been here for lunch and dinner and I'm obsessed! The ambiance and interior design is so cool. Definitely more casual for lunch and dressier for dinner but not too fancy. I've had the calamari multiple times (so good), the deviled eggs, the jambalaya, Cajun chicken pasta, Gigi's burger, and the southern shrimp carbonara (my fav!!) and everything was great! Everything has a southern/New Orleans flare to it. They also have some good drink specials! It can get crowded so might be best to make a reservation. Prices are a little more expensive, but worth it. Service was good but nothing exceptional. I really enjoyed this restaurant. After being at the Penn State for a meeting, a small group of us made a reservation only to show up to see that the rest of our group decided to come as well! Ironically, our tables were near each other and we didn't get kicked out for unruly behavior. I would recommend reservations. The parking lot was already filled so you may have to park next door at the hotel. There was live music in the bar when we were there. Ambiance is very relaxing, but please know with the high ceilings, it can get loud real quick. The food was great with most of us getting the shrimp and grits. It was so perfect, that it ruined me for other places! Not spicy and a great texture. Got the fried green tomato's for my side and they did not disappoint. I really wanted to say wonderful things about the new menu at a restaurant that we have eaten at regularly. I'm just disappointed in the menu. All the regular items that I love are gone except for the crab cake. However, it was not the same as the old one and I really did not like it at all. I used to get the twin crabcakes and roasted red potatoes. I would eat half of it and save the other half for lunch the next day. I don't see returning and that makes me very sad. read more

Best restaurant in State College! The Cypress Tree salad was an outstanding combination of figs, apricots, greens, goat cheese, pecans, and cucumber towers with a delicious peach vinaigrette! The peach margarita and the key lime martini were second to none! All enjoyed on a shaded outdoor oasis in the back of the restaurant. read more

I tried the beer can chicken (it sounded close enough to home) and it was so incredibly moist and tender I had to order more to take back to the hotel for later. My favorite State College meal. I visited a few weeks ago while on a trip with my husband and our toddler. We sat outside which was lovely. Our server was very sweet and accommodating to our child (they had a kids menu online so we assumed it would be fine to take her....I think if I went again I'd find a babysitter). Our waitress has been very slow and has back talked me and another Memeber on my family on two separate occasions. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, I understand stress when the restaurant is busy so I am usually lenient to behavior like this, but being rude to customers is unexceptable. Wish it coulda had a lil more truffle flavor though. Solid but wouldnt get again. Coastal Pasta ($20): This dish was really good. Im not too sure what I was expecting, but that sauce was bomb. Its like a pasta with a cream corn sauce. The sauce isnt too thick which is different but its still really flavorful. Id def recommend. I went to Gigi's for the first time since I moved here seven years ago and I'm sad I waited so long! I got brunch with some friends, we made a reservation assuming Saturday brunch would be packed but the place was empty sans one other table on our side of the restaurant. During the school year, I've heard from students that the wait is super long on weekends without a reservation but it seems like it's not bad in the summer. Our server was incredibly friendly, and our food came reasonably quickly. I got the pimento cheese dip as an app and it was really tasty (spicier than I expected but I loved that!). I ordered the bananas foster French toast from the brunch menu and it was delicious. The prices are higher than what I normally spend (I'm a waffle shop gal usually lol) but the portion was huge and I felt completely stuffed after finishing. Altogether I definitely plan on coming back, maybe for a nice date or celebration since the prices aren't what I spend on just an average meal personally read more
