Unfortunately, the mechanic who I trusted and used to keep my car running passed away. As a result, I took to Yelp to seek out someone that could take his place. Based on the reviews for Gilbert, I brought my car into his shop to test it out -- this was years ago when his shop was in Culver City. I have been a loyal customer since then. Gilbert is very knowledgeable, detail oriented and personable which are all wonderful traits for a mechanic to have. He works hard to figure out the issue with your car and then provides you with a detailed explanation of what it will take to repair it. Gil, is simply one of the most honest and easy to work with mechanics I have ever done business with. We've taken our Jeep Wrangler there for everything from "noises" I couldn't explain to "where is this oil leak coming from" to just advice on what to do about something. If I could give 10 stars to Gilbert I would. I found him through yelp and he is the most incredible mechanic and trustworthy person I have ever done business with...especially with cars. I've been around and have had many cars...but never have I felt in such good hands. Gilbert goes beyond finding the problem and fixing it. For example, I gave my daughter my gorgeous 04 BMW convertible and she has been a bit careless with it. Not only has Gilbert (hopefully enlightened her) about respecting her car but when he had to go deep into the underneath of the car, he fixed so many little hoses and rubber pieces that would soon wear out as long as he was there. Furthermore, he refused to settle with me, and now despite my being a disabled senior, I may be forced to sue him for elder abuse. Be wary of his cheerful and helpful demeanor. They even put the wrong weight of oil in my car, even though it was written on the cap of the oil container. He also put in an after-market battery, so my car did not start. I had to buy tentacles to attach to the battery and an electrical outlet, He knew all too well, of my numerous medical problems, including, but not limited to the severe orthopedic problems and multiple fractures and herniated discs in my spine,. I was forced to continually lift the hood of the car to keep the tentacles attached to the battery and an electrical outline each time I used my car. He has no conscience or compassion. Go somewhere else. He has shown himself to be dishonest and lacks an iota of compassion. People do not know what he is really doing, so make sure you get the receipts for any items he claims to have put in your car. He also put a damaged tail light on the right rear and charged $127.00 plus $65.00 for installation. One in perfect condition was on EBAY for $45.00. If you are foolish enough to still use him get receipts for all parts and check that the right oil was put in your car. My mileage per gallon is now is 35% higher since I had the car fixed but I am still out a good deal of money and smiling Gilbert, while he is screwing you, refused to pay for the necessary repairs, except for a pittance I was forced to layout out of pocket. Had a brake master cylinder fail on my new(ish) BMW, but wasn't sure what the issue was at first. Found Gilbert's through a referral from another shop and was able to get the issue fixed. Parts took some time to ship from Germany given COVID delays but Gilbert was very responsive and kept me up to date. Davis Bros. has always been honest and does great work so I trusted their referral to Gilbert's and I'm so glad I did. Gilbert himself is smart, articulate, honest and responsive. He not only repaired all my car's issues quickly but he took photos of the undercarriage of my car where I was concerned I had an issue. I have had Gilbert working on my cars for over 15 years. A very honest and helpful guy who does his best to keep costs low. I drove by this morning for my 2003 Mazda... and the whole Auto Plaza was closed. I tried to call all morning and got worried when no response. I guess property has been sold and auto shops relocating, because some had signs referring to new address. No info about Gilbert's Auto however. :-( It's not more than about a couple of months since I was by... so I was really surprised and not pleasantly. He's responsive, completely trustworthy, tells you exactly what is going on, and takes care of it- and it is a reasonable price! I do everything at Gilbert's- my yearly service, oil changes, everything my car needs. He does it all- gets the prices and timing of parts to be delivered, finds solutions and make recommendations, and is really nice. I can't say enough good things about this guy. Very honest. He was recommend to us for his honesty and good prices and service, and indeed we weren't let down. He's now our mechanic of choice. When a problem arises he always lists out all possible solutions, from the least expensive to most expensive giving YOU the choice on which one to do. In pur case pur fuel pump stopped working, so che just changed the unit and filter rather than the whole assembly which would've cost us a LOT more. He suggested this as it was the cheaper option, and just as good as the total replacement. A big thanks to Gil and his team for helping me with my car. My check engine light turned on, which is a huge headache for any working adult, and I decided to take my Prius to the dealership to be checked out. I was blown away by the quote they'd given me and wanted to get a second opinion before agreeing to any repairs. I gave Gil a call and he was able to quote me for all the repairs right then, at a much lower cost than the dealership, and I was able to take in my car in the next morning. I left my car there for a couple hours, went to Coffee Bean down the street and when I came back I was good to go. Not only did he save me money but he also saved me repairs that I didn't need to get done quite yet! I truly appreciate his honesty. He told me he has a 2-year warranty on his work which really gives me peace of mind. I'll be taking my car here as long as I'm living in the Palms area. I would give 10 stars if I could. Gilbert has helped both my car(2014 Jeep Cherokee) and my girlfriends Mercedes. After having shotty work done at another shop I was hesitant to try a new shop. Gilbert is honest, does good work and explains everything while giving you a quote. Initially I was a little reluctant to try Gil... even though he was highly rated it was a smaller number of reviews than the other 4 1/2 star place I was looking at. But I'm SO GLAD I chose Gil's. My car had failed a smog check, and Gil walked me through exactly why it failed. He explained it in a clear, easy to understand way, and laid out the steps I needed to take to get it passed. When the bill came due, it was infinitely cheaper than I expected it to be. Plus, the car was ready when promised. Gil was really really great, the pricing posted was fair, and the bill was even less expensive than that. So yes, definitely feel COMPLETELY COMFORTABLE going here! He needed to clean out some filter air engine thing on my Nissan Sentra and he is so well experienced with my car type and knew things about why my engine light kept coming back in and previously no one else could figure it out! Gil was so wonderful. My tire light kept going on, so he ran a super quick diagnostic. He then checked each tire by hand with his colleague down the street - this took a couple hours, so he offered to drop me off somewhere. I had my partner come pick me up and when we were coming back, his check engine light went on (lol). Gil ran a diagnostic on his vehicle, as well and gave us both ice cold water while we waited. Because Gil only found a small leak on one tire and couldn't fix it (it was too small), he didn't charge me anything for the service. So kind and honest - would 10/10 recommend :) read more

I'm so glad Gilbert is back at his new location at 5361 W Washington. It's a little hard to find as he doesn't have signage and there is a body shop attached to it but they are worth looking for! He is an honest and reliable mechanic who goes above and beyond to explain all the work that needs to be done or doesn't need to be done. For someone like me who knows nothing about cars he takes the time to go over everything in detail. As for the price it's so much less than other mechanics the big chain places or at the car dealership and at other mechanics I couldn't trust what they were saying.
