Ended up here before a show because the district across the street was closed. Three friends and I were very curious about this place as soon as we walked in and saw the initial "vibe" of the decor and old world feel. We were seated right away and initially felt the staff was very polite and attentive. Those initial feelings fell away very quickly. After taking our initial drink and appetizer order, we waited about ten minutes for a couple beers and two sodas. When we received appetizers of bocce rolls and deviled eggs. Bocce rolls were burned black on top, but with the Gorgonzola sauce, it was edible. Deviled eggs were bland but edible. When we ordered dinner, three of us got the Mac and cheese, which came out over cooked and bland. But the fail of the night was my bison meatloaf, which tasted old, and they simply threw a thin slice of old meatloaf on the grill to burn the outside, and throw some ketchup and slaw on top and hope no one notices. I chewed that first dry piece for almost a full minute before I felt safe swallowing it, then pushed the plate away. The interior of the restaurant is very cozy and relaxing. The cheesy bread rolls I think they were called Bocce Rolls, those were great. I didn't really like the main course food I ordered and the waiter was not very good at answering our questions when we were trying to order. Until recently when we were there to celebrate a birthday. Their menu dropped two of my favorite dishes so that was a let down. The service, for being a Monday wasn't good at all. The place wasn't full and we saw our waitress when she took the food order and at some point we'll after the food was delivered. We had to ask for water individually, even though the food delivery guy noticed our glasses were empty and then it seemed like a chore. For the money I'll just carry my business elsewhere. Had a great meal here with awesome food and great service. I had the sparkle burger which was fantastic, and it had bacon jam which I haven't had before, which I now love. The atmosphere was beautiful and unique and the food was excellent, thus two stars. The portions are small, which is disappointing with the prices. When it came time to pay, we had a gift card that was only 5 months old, and they would not honor it. The manage even asked me to not yell at him when I was trying to talk over the noise and my voice was horse from allergies and the end of a cold, as an example. The restaurant would not even compromise at all, no discount or anything. We usually don't go to restaurants as expensive as this and was hoping for a fun and different experience. We were very disappointed. Update: Upon reviewing my credit card charges, we discovered that they added a 25% tip. The ambiance is the best part of this restaurant but only on one side of it. I loved walking down into the entrance of the lobby and seeing all the stone work. It has a very medievel, castle feel. The other side is not as cool and the only reason I even noticed it was because that's where the restrooms are. I had the Pepper Chips, Macaroni and Cheese, Bocce Rolls and their happy hour beer: Topcutter. The Bocce Rolls were the best part! It's a very soft roll with garlic and mozzarella baked right inside. The macaroni was average, a bit salty, but still delicious. The Pepper Chips were of a homemade Lays quality and came with a dipping sauce that I couldn't quite put my finger on. The beer was an IPA and had just the right flavor. I spent $17 for all items and felt pretty full afterwards. The waitstaff was prompt, friendly, offered great suggestions, and didn't mind that I was by myself. Two critiques: 1. very small restaurant- I imagine during busy times (and with bigger parties) that this could be a nightmare for getting a seat. 2. Very, very dark inside- this is a bonus for some people, but it was difficult to really appreciate the decor and everything this place has to offer. I'm very disappointed with my experience tonight. My sister and her boyfriend had just flown in from New York and I had picked them up from the airport. We selected this restaurant specifically because it was recommended to us as a restaurant open past 10 pm on weeknights and my sister loves unicorns. We arrived straight from the airport at about 10:10 pm. The website says they close at 11 pm. We stood around waiting at the host desk for about five minutes. Multiple employees walked past us and ignored us. There were multiple diners still eating and open tables as well. Finally, the manager approached us and told us they were done serving and that we should go somewhere else. He was very abrasive and clearly did not give a crap about providing us a good experience or even being nice about it. It was extremely disheartening that they didn't want our business 45 minutes before they were scheduled to close. We were all extremely tired and hungry. Hubby and I went here to enjoy a superb "last meal" before my upcoming procedure places me on a liquid diet, and we were not disappointed. He had the Duck & Pancakes (now I know what "savory" pancakes are, and two drinks. A Winter Night with Van Gogh reminded me of a childhood illness treatment. It was to thinly cut chops. 1-one was Very Overdone to the point of BURNT. To thIS point the we could hardly cut it. The 2nd was good. The sauce for it was a bit different and tasty. My complaint is. He had to be taken to thr ER where the doctor diagnosed him with severe food poisoning with the advice that if he'd had more than the three wings he did, he would be in worse shape. I have not heard if a re-imbursement for the meal was offered but it took a waitress having to contact the management staff to get someone to see how my FIL was. Food safety is a crucial element when it comes to serving ones patrons. Also keeping your customers alive is the other. Id strongly recomend taking thr duck off the menu.
