Strong 4.5 stars. Came here cause I heard they were the best donuts in town. I haven't tried every donut place in Gilroy yet but I can vouch this place will be somewhere on the top of my list. It's a small mom/pop shop. Family owned. Looked like siblings running the place. Super friendly when we walked in. Quick to serve. They offered a nice selection from original glazed, fritters, cinnamon rolls, bars, twists, you name it. Came here early before 9am. I observed a good amount of customers coming in and out too. They still had lots of donuts to choose from and still fresh ones in the back. The nice gal who rang us up told us we came at a good time cause they bake fresh in the morning and sell out pretty quick. So I'm guessing if you sleep in and come midday your out of luck on selection and freshness. The donuts are a bit smaller than I'm used to but taste wonderful. Bakers dozen about $9.50 or $1 each. Recently got donuts at this place. As soon as I walked inside my 1st sentence out loud was "Oh my god it smells SO GOOD in here!". Then I started looking at the donuts... each one looked perfect, and they had plenty of choices to choose from. I came to only get 3 donuts, and ended up leaving with those 3, plus an entire dozen. I went in the the Donut House on a Wednesday morning around 10:30am, entering at the same time as an elderly white man, I myself being a mixed Africa American. The kind man offered to let me go first, but I wasn't ready so told him to go first, then the Asian man behind the counter proceeded to say "You go first then the monkey" to the elderly white man. Came here based on Yelp reviews and was sadly disappointed. Obviously a former Winchell's location, there hasn't been any care taken to maintain or improve the facility. Cash only, limited selection at 11am, liquid coffeemate that was left at room temp had begun to curdle, and my biggest complaint: the place was filthy. The floor, the counter, the table that we sat at... all had residue and had obviously not been cleaned well or recently. This was just a stop on a day trip for us, but we won't be back. read more

I live in Oakland and was visiting my mom who sent me here, theres so many hipster donut shops in Oakland ruining Donut history at the moment with their ($ cardboard texture tasting donuts. Boy does this place deserve to be ripped a new one. I used to come here semi-often in the past but not anymore. One morning I just wanted a couple donuts and a drink with it. THAT'S IT! Wow...didn't know it was gonna be such a drag for a rather too-young kid with a baaaaaadddd attitude! He was rolling his eyes when I simply changed my mind on the drink I was deciding on. I think they're in violation of child labor laws having a rather SNOT-NOSE BRAT of a son work the counter. I swear if I was in an any worse mood I woulda at least let him have it or be tempted to reach over and back-hand the little punk but I have more self-control I don't care if it's your own family member! The only bummer is that if you don't get there early enough you may not get what you want, but thats not a huge deal since they are all tasty. I haven't had a donut from here that I did not enjoy! Bad customer policies and average donuts. After Christmas shopping in Gilroy me and a friend walked in and I had a Starbucks coffee. When I ordered I was told I could not order with my "outside" coffee and I was not going to buy their coffee. I told them my donuts were To-Go and I was not going to eat them there, but that made no difference. After all that my friend offered a me a donut and it was like an average 7-11 donut. There's always a nice variety and the owners have been nice enough to let us know that if you call in a pre-order (such as a special request), they will do their best to accommodate you.
