The atmosphere when I walked in totally blew me away because it feels super fancy and upscale but not to the point where you don't feel comfortable. One of the owners was working that night and he lives in the neighborhood and wanted this place to be an affordable place in the area that felt like the environment of a Lincoln Park salon. Mission accomplished!!! The prices here are incredibly reasonable and the staff are so down to earth. I had a fantastic wax experience and can't wait to come back for other services! Side note to those who care, this place NEVER double dips their wax and is super clean and hygenic. When I arrived the shop was very chill & quiet, there were other clients getting nail service. This was a nice change, I didn't want an express nail experience. Where the service was rushed & I was placed at a drying table once my nails painted. This was the total opposite. The tech asked me what I was looking for, assessed my damaged nails & explained to me first how she would be able to fix them before she began working on my nails. This place holds two ANGELS as owners. I can not even begin to explain the love and care the team at Gingerslam has. I was a bride who booked a party of 6, long story short I ended up having an anxiety attack here because of my nail polish not being 'breathable' and realizing I can't pray with it on (religious purposes) and Trevor went to the closest store to purchase me 4 color options and surprising me with them with my bridal party after I got myself together. I went here on Wednesday evening with my mother and had an amazing experience! The staff is super nice and professional. I felt safe and that they were taking every Covid-19 protocol necessary and then some. They check your temperature when you come in and have you sign a form. They're also doing appointment only (I don't know if this is typical since this was my first time) which manages traffic so that there's never too many people inside. Everyone is wearing masks and they are cleaning everything including the pen you use to sign the form. I made my appointment easily the day before over text and I didn't specify that I wanted a gel manicure with Nail art. Since they are scheduling everything ahead of time, they weren't able to do nail art because they hadn't allotted enough time for that since I didn't know I needed to say that before I got there. This is my second time coming here. Found this gem through my sister and so happy I did. The environment is so relaxing and the customer service is on point every time. They genuinely care about their customers and take the time to make your experience the best one. The music is also great and chic decor. Overall awesome ambience. During covid times it's a bit worrisome to go out but they took every precaution for the customers to be safe, they sanitized surfaces regularly and reinforced social distancing between customers. I've visited gingerslam twice since moving to Rogers park a few months ago. The first time was with a Groupon for a mani-pedi. I tried the Smith&Co polish. My nails looked good, but the manicure didn't last as long as I expected it to. The second time was 16 days ago, and it was probably one of the best gel manicures I've ever gotten! The pedicure was also good, but in that respect I have had slightly better, though my toes still look amazing. My nails have not chipped and it's been 16 days!!!!! I'm repeating that because so many places offer no chip but 75% of the time it doesn't last, which can be so disappointing and I rarely have the time to go back for them to fix it. Prices are reasonable/on par with most nail salons. Tuesday-Wednesday there's a no chip mani with regular pedi special for $49!!!! Please go! You'll laugh, be treated kindly, be serviced in a reasonable amount of time and your nails will look AMAZING. Even if I didn't live close by, it would be worth the trip and! See below for extended review on service/decor, etc. Ambience/Decor: Very fun, retro and cozy space. Pedicure chairs are comfy, manicures are done at a bar high top table, so the seats aren't as comfortable, but they aren't uncomfortable either. Very clean, I haven't seen anything that would make me raise an eyebrow. Service: I've received nothing but top notch service both times. I called with my Groupon the first time the day before and they were happy to fit me in and I was treated like any other customer. Second time, I snagged a same day appointment. Huge plus since I have a very hectic work/school schedule, so when I have a day off I like for things to be efficient. Before I get to the actually services, let me tell you...this place is BYOB. That's right..you can bring your own wine or other adult beverage. It's a great idea if you are going there with some friends. I could definitely see a bridal party coming there and enjoying their time. The services are what you would expect. This place is so fun, like super duper fun. First tip here: make an appointment. I wanted a same day appointment and they couldn't squeeze me in. No big deal but definitely don't show up hoping you can squeeze in. They have a lovely and clean space. The salon seems to be run by two nice men who care deeply about their clients and do everything to ensure a good experience. I had to take a quick conference call during my pedicure and they were super kind about it (honestly I think this is a super rude thing to do but couldn't avoid it). I have no idea what this place does to your nail buts its been over two weeks since I got a mani/pedi and the pedicure looks like it was done yesterday. My manicure is holding on strong as well. Usually, I would have peeled off all of my gel by now, ruined my nails, and whined to my friends about it. Honestly, I don't think I could peel this stuff off if I tried. In nails, two things matter: Skill of the technicians and customer service. Gingerslam is 20 out of 10 on both. My fingers and toes are always done beautifully and the 'cures always last. My 21-year-old daughter got a swirly design once and it was art. Help on colors, opinions, what looks best on you, is always available. The owners are swoonworthy and their staff generous, helpful and smart. Want to know something about another neighborhood service? They know or they'll call for you. I once stopped in needing an emergency manicure for a meeting and Gingerslam was full. Trevor, one of the co-owners, called his next favorite place and booked me in there. They've made calls about food and counseled on local car repair. Customers are interesting and friendly. I'm not young and have been to lots of places over the years. I had my nails done last week for a wedding I was standing up in. My manicurist encouraged me to go bold (since I wasn't the bride) and because I am sassy by nature, so I did. I WISH I had a picture. They were truly wild and fun. I wore bright pink lipstick to match and everyone told me I was SLAYING throughout the wedding festivities. The staff is extremely polite and fun and the atmosphere and decor are far above what I would ever expect from a nail salon. My boyfriend had a spa pedicure (works on his poor dogs all day) and is still feeling happy and relieved from the service. We live right around the corner and we are thrilled to have a wonderful place to enjoy so close by. Maybe next time we'll bring our champagne in a can- just because.
