They have a cool rating system for their various sakes- a numerical system based on various taste features, dry, sweet, smooth - they have a good selection. As for the food, the sushi and sashimi selections were delicious and great. My favorite dish, however, was the Chilean sea bass on the appetizer/Izakaya menu served hot, but so moist and flavorful - sweet and it melted in the mouth - phenomenally delicious! Fish is good but sushi rice needs to be cooked longer. It's hard and chewy. Half of nigiri is rice, and when the rice is so hard that it interferes with the enjoyment of the sushi, that's a problem. Once the rice is cooked, it should sit for at least 10 minutes to properly steam. The chefs working here seem to forget that part of cooking sushi rice, and it's clear from the taste. Also, wasabi has absolutely no kick. Buy a fresh container and throw the old stuff out. read more

As we are coming in the restaurant a customer that were coming out stopped us and told us how she like this restaurant and that she always comes here. As a first timer is always intriguing to know if that was true. This place did not disappoint us. It was just a little pricey but it's worth it. Chilean Seabass was great, California roll with scallops on top and Siomai were very tasty. I really came there for Ramen so I got Tonkatsu Ramen, it was just ok, a little salty...if I had to compare it to Monta Ramen in Vegas and Ramen Place in Los Angeles or even Tampopo Ramen in Phoenix. Nonetheless, we love everything else. The service were great. As we leaving the owner bow his head and thank us for coming. We will be back soon. Yes, Virginia, there is exquisitely good sushi in the desert to be found at Ginza. Sushi can be hit and miss here in Tucson. But as an avid fan of Raijin Ramen, I decided to give its sister restaurant a try. So glad I did at lunch time as they have a good lunch menu. We split a sushi-njiri combo and sashimi plate, plus added the California scallop roll from their sushi list. The sashimi was melt-in-your mouth tender and super fresh. The sushi rolls are not over-size as you find so frequently here in the USA. It was all wonderfully good. I look forward to our next visit. read more

UPDATE: We have tried many other sushi places in Tucson since the original review and this is still our favorite. We have loved all the sushi that we have tried and the banana tempura dessert is to DIE FOR! Also, I would like to mention that we have had the same server, Kimano (hopefully I'm getting her right her) for the last few times we have been in and she is An amazing server, and just an adorable person! We love her!!!! She is part of the reason we come back. The food is still great and so is the service! Love love love Ginza. We come here often and make a pretty lengthy drive just to come here! Sushi is all fresh and delicious. Miso is great of course. We have tried a lot of different things here and couldn't possibly name them all but we have never had bad food or bad service! this have been a favorite place for years - ginza has incredible chefs dedicated to their craft, and ever friendly and considerate waitstaff. if you're going, although the sushi is great, i highly recommend taking advantage of the izakaya experience. think of it like tapas, and spring for soft shell crab, sunomono, agedashi tofu, and broiled collar instead of just different maki. alternatively, sit at the sushi bar and ask for omakase ; the few times i've done this, i've always been served spectacular meals. be sure to specify if you have budget constraints, food allergies, or preferences (no to oyster shooters, yes to tartare?). truly a special dining experience no matter what. read more

Not gonna lie, I was pleasantly surprised. They used fresh tuna and their sushi was well made. The sashimi slices are a bit small and the skill level on the tempura shrimp needs to be better. They are the only Japanese restaurant I have every came across that made dumplings in house so I will give props for that -- it tasted okay, not great. Their offer a larger variety of sushi than most places in town, which gives them a plus and they serve more traditional food, which I like. It is always difficult to get my querido out of his Mexican food comfort zone, but he took me out for a Tuesday night dinner to Ginza and neither one of us was disappointed. After reading the reviews I was really excited to try Ginza Sushi, but I was disappointed. I felt that Ginza Sushi is seriously over priced, and I say that because I just moved here from Northern Virginia where everything is expensive. I ordered the Ventana roll which is a basic California Roll topped with Yellowtail and "Uni" the cost was $17.95 per roll and the pictures clearly show slivers of that Uni goodness and all I received was a couple smears of Uni and it looked like some juice out of the box lol. The Chirashi, which I normally order was a whopping $27.95 which is outrageous. On a positive note from what I seen they do have a great lunch menu which I plan on trying and the little sushi I did eat was amazing. All and all I would not recommend Ginza Sushi for dinner because I don't like throwing my money away. read more

Nestled in the shopping center in the Foothills, just south of the Bashas shopping center, this is the absolute freshest, best tasting sushi and Asian cuisine I've ever had. Ok, they don't have all-u-can-eat or Teppan-Yaki, but who cares, I'm here for quality not quantity. The prices are all over the place depending on what you want. You can drop $7.95 for bento boxes and other entrees, or the sky is the limit. But the quality exceeds the price of every item. The servers are genuinely sweet and caring, and do their best, and it shows. The place is always remarkably clean, and I love the restrooms - one of a kind décor. I think the overall success is largely due to the owners always being there - any place where there is an owner present will always live up to a higher standard than if they weren't present. Ok - the must haves: The Tampico Roll - a fantastic, creamy blend of avocado and heat from the spicy Kani Kama on top. The Tuna Tataki was huge chunks lightly seared with Ponzu, just heavenly. The bento box or the complete dinners offer variety in the form of teriyaki chicken or salmon, several pieces of Vegas or California roll, white rice, and salad with ginger dressing. I ordered the combination dinner plate which comes with rice, miso soup, salad and your choice of three main courses. I had the sashimi (variety of very fresh hamachi, salmon, and some other fish i didn't know), tempura, and teriyaki chicken. The meal size was perfect for me so I was vey happy with the variety..but it might not be enough..for well, a male appetite. How I haven't written a review for this place yet is straight criminal...! Ginza easily tops the list of fine Japanese dining in Tucson. Owned and operated by a fantastic Japanese sushi chef, Jun, Ginza restaurant doesn't compromise with crappy Americanized sushi rolls. Instead, they stick to not only traditional Japanese sushi, but also a wide variety of well-done authentic Japanese dishes. Their fish is some of the most fresh I've found in Tucson, and is always consistently well prepared and presented. Their prices are a little on the high side, but the quality of the food is well worth the price of admission. The ambiance is wonderful ~ low lighting and dark toned interiors, light Japanese strings playing in the background, and no TVs to distract your dining experience. Their entire staff has always treated me and my guests with consistently great and timely service, accompanied by a warm smile. One thing lacking from Ginza, and all Japanese restaurants in Tucson, is a well-done Ramen soup... But there is great hope, as my recent conversation with Jun suggested that he's interested in opening a proper Ramen house in downtown Tucson ~ that would be an absolute delight and massive contribution to Tucson's growing and diverse food scene. He used to work at Sachiko years ago and my closest Japanese friend (OBTW himself a sushi chef) would choose Jun to go to when he wanted sushi. That should tell you something. we came to ginza for my sister-in-law's birthday dinner. they were able to accommodate sixteen of us! the staff was very attentive and brought out our drinks and then took our food order. everything on the menu looked delicious and it was hard to decide what we wanted. my friend ordered the udon and i had a couple noodles. they were so delicious. i would definitely get that if i go back again. my husband and i shared a combo plate which we were able to choose items. we got the teriyaki chicken, assorted (5) piece nigiri and shrimp tempura. it also came with a salad. my husband also ordered a scallop dynamite which had flavorful sauce and a good amount of onions. wish there were just a few more mushrooms, though! the shrimp tempura was a bit soggier than i would've liked, and the teriyaki chicken was just mediocre. i was able to taste a few pieces of sushi from a couple different rolls and everything else looked and tasted delicious! read more

This is the place, that if Tucson had Japanese gangsters, you would find them. Why? Because it is 'effin awesome. Fresh, fancy, moderately expensive, and authentic. Heart attack roll. Ginza, definitely a favorite of ours when we're down in Tucson! This is somewhat of an Izakaya style restaurant, (like Japanese tapas, or finger foods) They have sushi too, which is very good. But, we really go here for the hot plates..... They make the BEST fried baby octopus, I mean the BEST, never chewy or rubbery, perfectly crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside as it should be. I also always order the unagi bowl, I think it's the best I've had anywhere. A lot of places usually douse the eel with eel sauce, but Ginza places just the perfect amount of sauce required and it is a fabulous dish. This is a great place for groups, they have several large table settings if need be, maybe just make a reservation first to be sure you get one of them. Service is great. One time we went, my stepdad wanted to order something fried, but he has a shellfish allergy. They actually made up a new batch of fry oil just for him! We thought that was so nice, I love restaurants that care about their patrons. I think the prices may be a little high for a true Izakaya, but, if you know what you like, just get that and it won't be too steep. But. I have only had takeout from here, but it is always relatively busy when I stop by. I enjoy the Sonora roll (crab, cream cheese, jalapeño inside with salmon on top) mainly because the salmon is so fresh and silky. The Jo special is good too, it has shrimp tempura, avocado and cream cheese inside and shrimp on top. I could honestly do without the shrimp on top or swapping it with salmon would be better. The Philadelphia roll is standard, but good. The staff is friendly and location seems clean. They don't provide much soy sauce, so if you need it ask for extra. read more
