Sadly, we did not read the reviews here before ordering online while we were headed home from the gym. Of course we were told it would take one hour for a pizza delivery, and now it is going on two hours. We tried to call to see if our pizza was in route to our home, and twice someone hung up the phone on us and then the third time they said very rudely and briskly that "it was on the way." Overall, Giordanos is not the best pizza in Chicago- it is just convenient to order their delivery...if it works. As many people have said before, I will be going to Lou Malnotti's or even Pequads (my favorite) before I go to ANY Giordano's or order delivery from them ever again. read more

I wouldn't say this place is amazing, but I had a good meal that I enjoyed here. I also liked this location because it's away from the chaos of the Loop, is near public transit, and has a parking lot. Our waiter was very friendly and explained what makes Giordano's special when we said it was our first time there. He also suggested for us to take a photo while he did the first cheese pull, which made for a great shot! As a starter, we split bruschetta. SO many tomatoes on it!! It was delicious overall - thick piece of mozzarella, great balsamic drizzle, crispy bread - but all the tomatoes fell off cause it was so heavy! The deep dish was very tasty, but very heavy. It has a ton of rich tomato sauce and thick cheese melted in. The crust was very thick but nicely crispy. I enjoyed it for sure, but need to take a walk after because i felt so full!! read more

Well i have been going to this location for a few years now. I have to say the pizza here is at a quality this is above the other locations. I went back for a second try. This time they got it right and I would definitely recommend it simply because the pizza is so much better then the other locations. Customer service very attentive and they really do make you enjoy your time being out worthwhile. The staff is friendly and they do greet and acknowledge all customers. They have redeemed my business back here. Sometimes we all need a second chance, for the sake of a good damn pizza too lol! read more

I had a VERY BAD AND UNCOMFORTABLE experience at Giordano's on Halsted by UIC yesterday involving one of the waiters, the supervising manager, and the general manager. I will not be going there anymore. Let's just say some people don't like 30 black males gathered together. Maybe they think we'll rob them or walk out on the bill, I dunno. Mind you some of the people in attendance were lawyers, police officers, school officials, government employees, etc. We were questioned because our bill was "getting too high". Then they said we had a party so we had to buy more and because we refused to buy 15 pizzas (Our bill at this time was close to $500) the general manager, by phone, told us to pay, leave, and don't come back. The supervising manager watched us the ENTIRE NIGHT as if she thought 30 people could dine-and-ditch. As I was walking into the dining room, I overheard one of the waiters talking about our party, calling us a "cult". This is a semi-annual event my college friends and I have been doing for at least 12 years and NOW it's a problem. We have spent well over $700 in food and drinks at one time with no problems before. But don't worry. I will take my money elsewhere and hopefully you do the same. read more

First time in Chicago and this place was recommended to us. The pizza was BOMB! So cheesy and the crust was tasty!

This Giordano's location in Chicago (Greektown location) off of VanBuren, said that they "Made a mistake when charging my credit card", after I already signed and tipped. Because the employee saw I tipped a high amount on the credit card (I'm making an assumption), they let me know they made a "Mistake" on the first transaction and I would need to sign another receipt. I did so thinking they were being honest. Little did I know, I signed two separate transactions, and tipped twice. My total for THREE pizzas came out to over $150, when the proper amount to be charged was $71.60 (and that's with a really nice tip, at almost 100%). When I called the manager to request a refund for the double charge, he said, "This is what you signed, and how much you are going to be charged". I highly HIGHLY never going to this establishment as ethics is clearly a huge issue, even at the management level. read more

I love Giordano's stuffed pizza, but when I'm catching lunch in the middle of training or a busy workday, I don't always have time to wait for it. Still, I like this location because it's not packed at lunch and the service is about as efficient as you need. So, I don't get the pizza, but I do enjoy the salads and the italian beef sandwich is nicely done. My complaint? Televisions blaring the misfortune of the day while I'm trying to eat. Blah. This Giordano's is just blah. The food is tasty but the restaurant itself kind of sucks. First minus: they require you to PAY for parking even though you are patronizing the restaurant. Now, as a suburbanite, I will never really understand how in the world a business has the audacity to charge high prices to just COME into the store. I think it is absolutely ludicrous (but I guess check out all of the movie theaters in the city, businesses that use parking garages, etc). A lot of them will validate parking, but this Giordano's will NOT. So, right at the beginning of the night, they're telling me that in order to PAY them money for dinner, I have to PAY them to park as well. Awesome. The restaurant looks exactly like all of the other Giordanos' in the city and suburbs: kitschy Italian feel with a lot of local crap on the walls. Nothing special about this location. I have always had mediocre service at this location. I've never waited, but I've had rude and indifferent hosts/hostesses. Servers have always been nice and prompt, though. The food is very tasty, but it is getting so expensive it's almost not worth it to go to the restaurant anymore. There's nothing exceptionally different between the pizza at Giordano's and the pizza at Gino's East - and Gino's East is cheaper. The pizza at Giordano's is now in the upper $20s for a large size stuffed cheese pizza. Gah. It's just too expensive, especially with that crazy parking fee at the beginning of the evening. Really pleasantly surprised, always found their pizza to be good, not the best but good. I like stuffed pizza once and a while, too much cheese, but that's what it's supposed to be, so no issue there. Dining in or picking up to go you'll find the service friendly and efficient. I have to give an extra nod to the staff at the registers for to go orders, while I waited for my order to come up I was asked several times if I needed help when someone new entered the area. Even staff passing thru smiled and said hello. If you're in a hurry and didn't think of ordering or just want to have an extra pie on hand they have ready to go pizzas, and they cook up almost just as good. I like friendly places that serve up just what you expect them to, while it seems like a simple thing to expect, it doesn't happen on a regular basis. Yum yum yum yum yum. Deep dish with meatballs and fresh garlic is actually a transcendent meal. Beer is grossly overpriced for a pizza joint, which is why I only gave 4 stars, but the food is absolutely delicious. You've never had a fluffier mozzarella. read more

This review is more for this restaurant's shady business practices than the food. food-wise it is your typical Giordano's pizza with the typical Giordanos service. I had a Restaurant.com certificate that I purchased for this restaurant. If you are not familiar with restaurant.com, it's similar to Groupon with two major differences: you have to spend a certain minimum to use the discounted certificate and the certificates NEVER expire. After having our meal. spending the minimum and meeting all the requirements, I gave my phone with the certificate to the server. 10 minutes later the manager emerges and informs me they no longer accept the certificates. Since they don't expire he had no explanation on why he would not accept it. To make matters worse, the manager pushed the "validate" button on my phone, erasing the certificate and the certificate number. This effectively left me without any proof for a complaint to the restaurant.com company. Giordanos might have gotten an extra $40 out of me but they lost a customer for life (not that they care). read more

Giordano's has become a Chicago tradition for me each and every time I visit this amazing city. As much as I love to go out to dinner, I especially love a night spent unwinding in front of the TV with a large cheese pie, and the absolute only place I want the pie to come from is Giordano's in Greek Town. The crust is beautifully buttery, the cheese is perfectly cheesy, and the sauce sitting on top of the pie is just the right amount of savory and salty and scrumptious. Through trial and error, we have decided that a cheese-only pie is the only way to go. No excess water from veggies, no excess grease from meat products. Just pure pizza delight. read more

I've been going to Giordano's - various locations (including this one), for many years. This visit, something was off. We went on a Monday night for my nieces birthday. You know there is going to be problem when you gotta get up and look for someone to come and take your order. Our server, although she was nice, was either distracted, or kept forgetting about us. Not to mention, at the end of the meal, she forgot to return my credit card until finally I got up and went to the counter to "pay" my check. I would probably still be sitting there waiting to sign the receipt and get my card back had I not gone up to the counter....but I digress. All of the food we ordered was O-K... and this is pretty significant because usually when we use to go to Giordano's there was a pause to savor each bite of food because of its deliciousness...this time it was just "meh" It almost broke my heart. Maybe it was an off-night? I don't know. I'm willing to put it in the "off-night" category and give it another shot because I love Giordano's - not every week - but definitely it's a unique type of pizza that I don't want to give up altogether - but I hope that the next time we visit, the food (and service) improves. read more

4 1/2 stars I love me some Giordano's, but then again, I love just about any kind of pizza you can get in and around Chicago, hence my earlier reviews for Eduardo's and Lou Malnati's. Heck, maybe I'll just keep reviewing pizza places so I can make a Chicago Pizza list! The great thing about Giordano's [and admittedly, most of the Chicago chains] is the consistency. You can pretty much rely on the fact that your stuffed sausage and mushroom pizza [no "greeps", please] will be the same no matter at which location you dine. The best thing about this particular restaurant is the location: just steps from my apartment, this Van Buren location is the perfect place to take my visiting friends and family when they want some Chicago deep dish. I always let my guests choose too, because I know you really can't go wrong. One evening, my brother in law was in town and we went over. He wanted what equated to a meat-lovers special, so we got it ... and boy oh boy was it ever good. Rich and stuffed full of sausage, pepperoni, ground beef ... I think I just lost count. Of course we couldn't finish it. I think he got throw 2 pieces and I was approaching the end of the 2nd piece when I could no longer move on. Fast forward 6 months and his wife, my sister, and their daughter were in town on completely unrelated business. I took them over to Giordano's and they wanted a ham and pineapple stuffed pizza, so that's what we got. It was just as rich and delicious as the one loaded with cow. The three of us didn't finish that one either, but we made a nice attempt. The menu has more to offer than just pizza, but that's why came here isn't it? Go for it! I'd even skip any preliminary noshing, like salads. You're going to need any room you have in your stomach for what is about to come. The service is friendly and as fast as it can be, not bad, considering it takes a while to make a stuffed pizza. I like the old school feel of the space with its very Italian Pizza House feel, but that doesn't mean it isn't spotless, well organized and brightly lit. If you're in the area or visiting, know that this is a great location and perfect for couples, students, and families. Oh, and I am recommending that you dine-in. The pizza just isn't quite the same if you order for delivery. There is something about the whole experience that lends itself to the hot-from-the-oven stuffed pizza that you won't get eating off TV trays in the family room. Being that it's my first time in Chicago, this was a must try for me! We ordered the spinach and chicken deep dish and it was delish! Only thing is that it took about 45 minutes to get the pizza....but I was told that this was the normal wait time once the pizza was ordered. We also ordered calamari rings which came out promptly and it held us over until our pizza arrived. Service was good and friendly. It would be a 5 Star if they can figure out a way to get pizza out faster! read more

Giordano's is my favorite Chicago pizza chain, and this is the location I used to go to the most. I took a friend from England to Giordano's when he visited, and he liked it so much he insisted on ordering another his last night and taking it on the plane. You can only eat Chicago pizza every so often without having your stomach explode, but the experience is so much more gluttonous and carnal than a NY pizza there's really no comparison. I was down in Orlando last year and was shocked to see that they had a Giordano's there and better yet, it was just as awesome as in Chicago. A guy who worked there just loved it when I told him how much the Uno's chain locations suck compared to the two downtown, and sadly it's the truth. If you've only had Uno's in a town near you, you haven't had a good Chicago pizza. I've found Giordano's to be consistently good. read more

This would be a ZERO star review but I have to give them 1. WORST LOCATION I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. They made a huge mistake and said they would own their mistake and take care of it, only to find they lied. We ordered a pizza and a salad at for delivery. Online told us it would only take 1hour to be here. About an hour and a half later we still had nothing. We tried calling and never got through. After almost an hour of trying to reach someone we ended up having to drive to the restaurant to find out what was going on. They told us they were really backed up and that they will comp our order! It was a very stormy night, things were not working due to the storm, they were very busy, so we said okay and we understand. We were really glad that they were owning up to their mistake because it was now three hours after we ordered, pushing back our whole night plans back 3 HOURS, and our pizza was cold... Well it has been two weeks, we have called many times and have been told the manager isn't available every time, and we still have NOT been comped. Our bill was charged to our card. Absolutely horrible service. They not only didn't comp our order, they lied to us, and now they will not answer our phone AGAIN, and if we have to go in there and complain it will be the last time I ever eat here. So disappointed in this Chicago classic. I will be going to Lou Malnati's every time from now on! They are the much better option. read more

I was there for a dress rehearsal family event. We had the entire backroom set up. Pizza was great, both thin and thick crust. They put out pitchers of soda and beer. We took a cab from near Navy Pier..they do have a small lot, not the easiest getting a cab when you are leaving though. read more

Forewarning: Do not go on a near empty stomach, their pizzas are a work of art. Thus, you need to be PATIENT for this masterpiece to come out perfect. Trust, it's worth the wait. For their not less famous thin pizzas, the wait is 20 minutes. For their famous stuffed Chicago deep dish pizza, the wait is 35 minutes. The prices are higher than your average Papa John's or PizzaHut but remember, this is a pizza that even 3 slices of the small stuffed pizza is over a lb in weight. One and a half hours later, half of us still hadn't gotten our food. Half ended up putting the food in takeout. Their water pitchers stood empty for 30 minutes. Apparently, one slice of deep dish pizza is about 450 calories...but I digress. Despite being a Lou Malnati's fan, this Giordano's tends to be my go-to deep dish establishment. For me, it's about the convenient location and the anonymity that I am allowed to maintain while gorging on not one, but TWO thick bricks, I mean slices of the "Special" - sausage, green onions, onions, mushrooms and layers upon layers of cheese. There's never a wait. The service is good. And I can walk from my condo (and in theory, walk back to shave off at least 200 of those calories). When I have family or friends visit, I take them to one of the downtown locations so they can go through that whole experience of waiting in line with other tourists who wait in anticipation of that famous stuffed deep dish. But when it's just me or I'm ordering out, this is the place to go! read more

What a disappointment. Picked this place because of its location to West Loop (where I spend weekends,) and 290/ 90/94. Met Mom & Dad here at about 5:30 on Saturday. Parking is $4 valet- nice!!! When you walk in, there's a huuuuge takeout counter with menu posted, and about 5 employees standing at the counter. My mom walked up and asked if we should order here, or proceed to the hostess stand. Everyone at the counter just gave us blank stares. And then the woman in front of my mom disappeared into the back room. O...k...... guess it's a secret. So we made our way to the hostess stand, and were seated shortly. Now, the restaurant looks nice. A good looking little Italian restaurant, very casual, very family friendly. But, although she didn't mention anything- I am hoping it was our server's first day on the job- because she was SO easily confused. We weren't ready to order food yet- so we ordered 2 diet cokes, 1 coke. She writes it down, and repeats back to us, "3 cokes then?" We corrected her. Same thing with the salad dressings. We corrected her. We asked her if we could order a pizza to go. (Just box it and we'll take it with us.) Nope, no can do. We would have to go over to the carry out counter 1/2 way through our meal and order that. She couldn't help us with it. The food was ok. Dad said his Italian beef's au jus tasted fruity. ??? Anyhow- won't ever be back here. Service is sub par and slow. And there's just nothing redeeming that would make me want to go. read more

One of the 'have to try' things of Chicago is the pizza. Giordano's is the place to get it! We arrived around 4pm on a Sunday so it was not busy yet. We were seated in a nice dining room, there were a lot of booths in this one, and they seemed semi private so that was a plus for our party of 4. The appetizers came out quickly and were fresh and delicious. We ordered 1 pizza sized to feed (3-4) and it was the perfect amount. Great crust, fresh toppings, there just isn't a better way to serve up a Chicago staple. Everything seemed priced right, nothing outrageous for the quality of food. Sorry Chicago. I can't jump on the Giordano's bandwagon. The pizza was good but not amazing. It is literally a pie crust filled with cheese, toppings and sauce. I think my problem is the crust. It was too dry for me, which is a shame because I love pizza crust. On the plus side, while the pizza was $30 for a large with pepperoni, sausage and mushrooms, it was also the heaviest pizza I have ever held in my hands. One piece was definitely enough for a meal. Called to place a HUGE catering order and was treated like crap from the Assistant General Manager (can't even remember his name). I was talking about placing an order with one gentleman...shortly later this ASM gets on the phone and just starts asking all the same questions the previous guy took down for me. I politely told him I had given all my information to the other guy and he was like " if you want your order then just answer my questions". -_- Needless to say-I will NOT be placing my order through this location. I've had giordanos pizza before, it's good, but tonight I went there to have some pasta and that was a mistake. The ingredients were not fresh at all and the pasta was cold. I had the breaded mushrooms which was disgusting. The mushroom was bland with no flavor. For the entrée I had the chicken oreganato, blah! No taste whatsoever. I mean I wasn't expecting a 5 star meal but it definitely wasn't worth the bill of $25. So the lesson is, go here for pizza and nothing else!! read more
