It took about 15 mins for us to be seated (table of 5) I ordered a small caprese salad.. It arrived with no basil so I sent it back and the waitress just took it to the kitchen and threw a little basil on the top and brought it back... We ordered a small stuffed broccoli and toasted garlic pizza.... 45 mins later we get a small stuffed cheese pizza. The waitress took a very long time to get things for us like drinks and we had to chase her down for ketchup.. So, Giordano's is famous for its Chicago Deep Dish Pizza (aka stuffed pizza). Basically, it's like a giant pie shell with about a pound of mozzarella cheese on top. I love cheese and I love pizza. But Giordano's was just OK for me. I guess it's something you're "supposed" to do while in Chicago, but I wasn't thrilled. The service was decent and of course the price was reasonable. But after my other experiences at Chicago restaurants, I will definitely be skipping Giordano's next time I'm in town. I was extremely disappointed by this location. Unfortunately, it takes a lot to really disappoint me, and this location didn't disappoint to disappoint me. Let's begin with the parking lot that YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR. So...let me get this straight...I have to pay to eat and then pay to eat. Nice, Giordano's. Then, the server that I had, was VERY inattentive. Usually in a restaurant that's not very busy, a server will approach within 2-3 minutes. This server took close to ten minutes to approach and take my order. To make matters worse, he wasn't even the individual that brought our food to us. He didn't even come back to check and make sure everything was OK...until much later. He was quick to leave us the check, but not to come back and get my method of payment! How bad is that? But wait, it gets better!!! The restaurant's credit and debit card system allegedly went down, and they were unable to process credit and debit card payments. I didn't know this until after I gave the card to, you guessed it, YET ANOTHER SERVER. She passed it off to her manager to run it, and then suddenly our original server reappears, looking for the card. HE couldn't find it, the server who took my card couldn't find it, so I confront the manager, who tells me the system is down. THEIR SOLUTION....make an imprint of my credit card ON THE BACK OF A REGULAR RECEIPT, and then run the card IN A DAY OR TWO. Ahhhh.....NO. I went to an ATM, withdrew cash, returned to the restaurant and paid in cash, took the receipt with the imprint, and left. I didn't appreciate this Giordano's service at all. The pizza was good, the service however outweighed the flavor of the food. This location will not have to worry about me again. read more

Death by pizza -- I'm a NY'er and have never seen the beast that is Chicago style pizza. My local friends brought us here because this location was perfect for everyone. It has parking and is a large restaurant - so great for groups and last-minute dinner gatherings. The server was fair, not particularly awesome or bad. Decor was unremarkable and unoffensive. We split a greek salad and a veggie pizza. The salad was overly-dressed and I'd prefer to add oil on my own. The pizza was TREMENDOUS. We had trouble finishing it (There were 3 of us and we split a medium pizza). It was KILLER. While I'm no Chi-style pizza pro, I thought it was tasty. One of the best decisions I made in Chicago. I visited Chicago for work last week. After a long morning of traveling, my co-workers and I wanted to get Chicago style pizza. Luckily, Giordano's was only a few blocks away from our hotel. After arriving, everyone ordered salads and a small pizza (since everyone wanted different toppings!). The waitress warned us how large the small pizzas actually were and that maybe we should consider getting personal pan pizzas. Everyone changed their orders. The salads arrived quickly and we ate them even faster. The waitress gave us a heads up about the wait for the pizza (it takes about 45 minutes to cook). We were still starving and needed something else to hold us over. We decided to place an order for breadsticks and they were on our table minutes later. The pizza was everything we had dreamed of! I had the plain pizza and had a great mix of cheese and sauce. We STILL had left overs and ended up giving them to the men working the valet at our hotel. They were thrilled. OK - so I guess if I rely on Yelp for other people's reviews I should probably rely on my own reviews as well. Anyway; in this case I didn't and once again learned the hard way that this Giordano's could possibly be the absolute worst restaurant (if you can call it that) in all of Chicago. We're not a fan of deep dish in general, but about once a year some crazy craving strikes us so we decided to order from here since it's close to where we live and comes pretty quickly. Well, apparently too quickly since after our first bite into the pizza we immediately noticed the dough was raw. Of course raw dough isn't as bad as raw chicken and we weren't afraid of being sick, but damn it, we wanted our once a year deep dish craving to be satiated correctly. Sooo ... called them up and the person proceed to tell me it wasn't raw and that the oil mixed with the dough makes it look raw. (Insert LOL here) ... I think really did laugh at her before asking to cut the BS and put a manager on. (It's not as if we ate the whole pizza and then called to complain and get a refund or something stupid - we wanted the pizza, wanted to pay for it and wanted it cooked) ... well, without anything resembling an apology and almost as if he was doing us a favor, the manager said a new pizza would be to us within 45 minutes. Sure enough it was burnt to a crisp (I guess that's a product of them making sure it was cooked properly) and it was just as mediocre as it always is. I haven't eaten Giordanos in years.... and I realized why. One of my friends at school is from California and has never been graced with delicious deep dish pizza. We're all in the medical district, and this Giordanos is about as close as you can get to an L stop. Convenience wins! We decided to go with a large deep dish that was half pepperoni and half supreme. There were four of us and our server was happy to accommodate the split pizza. I was excited to start chowing. I noticed the cheese and marinara were both delicious. Pepperoni was fine too. However, the bread and crust were bland--I felt like I was eating two foods that just didn't belong together. Of course I still scarfed down my food because pizza is pizza but I definitely left the restaurant with things left to be desired. My friend from California enjoyed the food and gave it a solid 7/10. Ordered a pizza online. I get an "Order confirmation #" and then I wait patiently to go pick the pizza up. I arrive 40 minutes later after picking it up. The cashier says "I don't see your order". She asks for my order confirmation number and I show her the number and she goes "Its unconfirmed". Why would I get a confirmation number if its "unconfirmed". There is no secondary measures to give me a courtesy call? It's called a confirmation number for a reason. Then the problem solving was "We can put your order in?" Stuffed pizza is an abomination. Too much cheese. Too much sauce. Too much...everything. That being said...if you're going to have it...and most people will sooner or later...Giordano's is a fairly reliable choice. I can't speak to the present management and/or staff but last time I came here it wasn't a positive experience. Oh if you only knew. But that's another story... Thin pizza here is also pretty decent. I will give this place 3.5 stars based on my experiences at this restaraunt, and my other deep dish experience at Lou Malnati. As a local franchise, I think Giordano's Pizza has good quality food. Thick crust, full of cheese and other toppings, but still it's not greasy. We have dined in today, and had a take out some months ago. We've had the combination pizza, cheese only, and sausage, onion and mushroom toppings. They are all tasty. The service was fairly good today. The only thing about dining in is that you have to pay 4 dollars for parking (unless you park outside on the street). I really haven't got the information about so call local favorites yet in regards to deep dish pizza. Until I taste something way better, I will say that you can go here to try Chicago-style pizza. read more

Congratulations Giordano's of Van Buren Street! You used to be a 2-star restaurant but based on my experience there, you're now a 2.5-star restaurant, which bumps you up to three due to rounding. YAY! I've come here before and have always experienced indifferent service. And Monday night was no exception. I did notice, however, that it appears as though they redid the carpeting and actually cleaned around the windows! Woooh hooo! So that's why you got bumped up half a star. Seriously, previously I would have to position myself to face the inside of the restaurant and not look out at the window, which had layers of grease and dirt and nastiness layered on top of layer. But they must have taken a powerwasher to it and it's all.... normal. Still though, I could do without the fake palm plants. Really? It was pretty annoying to have that branch trying to comb my hair all evening. So yea, the service was definitively indifferent. The beer took forever. But the pizza was tasty. I loved the pizza and the fact that our 5:30 reservation was accommodated so nicely with our pizza being ready within 5mins of our arrival. However, our waitress Zoe seemed disconnected and not excited to be our server. It was a birthday celebration for my 4 year old Goddaughter and when she brought over the cake and didn't even bother staying to sing happy birthday. I suppose it isn't a requirement but I've been at restaurants where the server really seems engaged and caring about their party. We had a party of approximately 17 people. Service really makes an experience at a restaurant. Update: Feb 19th I was contacted by the restaurant regarding our original experience and was invited back. We came back with a party of 5 to a totally different experience. The food was amazing but Kathy was superb. She was expecting us, and treated us like family. This was definitely a drastic change in how we were treated from our first experience. I can appreciate the general manager for ensuring we had a different opinion of his restaurant. My family and I have a little tradition of going to the auto show then going out for pizza, we've been to this location before and experienced a rude waiter but the food was fantastic so we thought we'd try it again and went February 15 about 2 pm. . Thise our waitress was absolutely amazing. I can't remember her name but she was short, Caucasian maybe about 40 or 45 and had red hair. The food was again wonderful and hot and even though we expect to wait long for the pizza our awesome appetizers came out quickly. We will definitely be back again. There was another lady I assume is a manager, she was African American with a large blonde afro and she seemed very friendly, gave us a nice smile and made us feel welcome. My only reason for not giving a 5 star is the hostess. I didn't get her name but she was African American, maybe about 25 or so with red hair and a ponytail. She was going to sit us by a window but my father in law said he'd rather sit somewhere else. For some reason this made her very upset she got very rude to us and said I was going to put you there, pointing to a table we didn't want, he said no thanks we'd rather sit over there pointing to another area and she just stormed off and threw our menus on a different table. It was so strange normally the hostess would say no problem, sit us at the table we preferred and maybe say enjoy your meal, she did none of this, she walked away rolling her eyes at us and threw the menus on a table. Literally threw them they were scattered on the table, then she walked off not saying another word to us. We didn't show any attitude or rudeness at all to the worker but her attitude to us really did sour our meal a bit. Again we did enjoy the food I still just don't understand why she got so annoyed with us. I would go again but hopefully she won't be there or will hopefully be in a better mood. read more

I have dined at Giordano's before at the Naperville location and I have to say my experience there far exceeded the experience I had at the Greektown location. I went to Greektown for a rehearsal dinner for a wedding and was fairly disappointed. They served a salad that was lackluster and the beer (note: not a big beer drinker) was not very good, either. The pizza was good but not warm enough, and the service was slow. The Naperville location is really nice and the service is fast and the food is prepared nicely and served quite nicely, as well. While I would recommend Giordano's, I would not recommend the Greektown location. read more

There's a reason it's world famous. Been to Chicago four times and had to stop here every time. I usually get the spinach stuffed pizza. Good amount of mozzarella cheese and sauce. The crust is perfectly flaky. This particular Giordano's is downtown and lots going on. If you want to try deep dish pizza, this is the place to go. I'm so tempted to order the quick freeze pizza you can order online. Bring some Chi town to LA. read more

I personally am not a fan of chain deep dish places like Giordano and Lou Malnati's. However, you get standard food here. Service will not be excellent, let's be real. They will tell you no matter what size of deep dish you get, it'll be a 25-39 min wait, which is more like a 45 min. If it's busy, be prepared to wait up to 1 hour. I recommend getting some appetizers to kill the time while you wait, or if possible, order in advance and just show up, viola! Prices start at $22.75 for a small deep dish. As you go up, and add more ingredients, it will be in the 30's. A small has 6 slices and they say it feeds 2 people, but honestly, it can feed up to 3 for people with standard appetite. The AC here can be on pretty high in the summer, so bright a sweater. They do not have coke, only pepsi. Salad is so so, i'd rather do the calamari or mozzarella sticks. read more

I have to say, I prefer NY-style pizza, but I was really impressed with the deep dish here. It was my first real trip to Chicago with my bf and friends and this was the first place we hit up as soon as we drove in downtown. There was hardly anyone else in the joint and we ordered a large pizza, half tropic delight and half special... a large for 4 people left us 4 giant slices as leftover! I couldn't eat more than 1 slice and everyone conked out at about 1.5. It was seriously delicious and I definitely appreciate deep dish a bit more now :) read more

My nearest neighborhood Giordano's is located right here. Conveniently enough, the office where my roomie works, and where I sometimes do extra work, is also located right here. In this very building. Where you can smell the pizza. Lunch special includes a personal pizza, a soup or side salad, and a drink. I love a good lunch combo. I've never gotten delivery or eaten dinner here, but when I was working in the area regularly, it was on my lunch rotation list for sure. Other helpful hints?
