For the price, they could have given us more. The deep dish was pretty good if you like these kinds of pizzas. The crust was flaky and required little chew. The main part is very cheesy and they do not skimp on the meat. The Chicago tavern style was very crispy and that pesto sauce gives it a herby and garlicky taste. Pesto pairs well with the chicken and tomatoes. The service was average. I would have liked our server to be more attentive like fill our glasses of water without us saying anything. A staple in Northern Illinois! This was second time and Giordano's and my second time getting the Toasted Italiano (hold the veggies). Both times it was very oily. I've had to dab the oil off before eating it both times. I even put the vinaigrette on the side to dip the sandwich in lightly to limit the oiliness of it than if it would've came on the sandwich. Besides the oiliness, the sandwich is delicious! The house salad didn't come with dressing? Wasn't sure if that's normal or just a fluke on my order. My boyfriend got the Chicken Caprese Melt and hated it and he's not picky like me. He said the flavor was not good, too heavy on the vegetables and pesto. It was also way too oily. The broccoli cheddar soup was good. Our waiter was kind and brought us everything we asked for and more. Here we go again.... it's been a few years since I came to this location, and already I have a headache. For ambiance, it's nice, you know the beauty of Giordannos, and the look is always vintage with its print photos of an era gone. But let's get to the knitty gritty. When you first enter an establishment, it's nice to be greeted in a nice fashion. The young lady at the front just didn't seem to be interested in us even being there. I asked for a table of 2, and she didn't even acknowledge me. She did grab 2 menus, and I guess we had to follow as she didn't speak. She basically threw the menus and walked away, not once giving us eye contact. It felt really uncomfortable, to say the least, and I wanted to leave, but my elderly mom was hungry. So we stood. So the young lady who took care of us seemed busy to the point of passing us up a few times before acknowledging she was our server. Is it this generation that is just not trained to show pleasantries? I'm disappointed as usually we have smiles. Quality has gone down. I've been eating here for decades as a family tradition but these days the pizza tastes super salty. I picked up a pizza tonight and everyone commented it was gross and salty. Sorry, but just not a fan of Giordano's. Calamari and More - Skip it. Bland and too many fillers of those other things not calamari. We used all the marinara sauce and still had leftovers. Sausage, Mushroom & Onion Deep Dish Pizza - Eh! Even my guy wasn't happy about it. The crust was hard, like it was over/under kneaded or something. We decided to just take the leftover calamari to go and asked for some more marinara and she said she would have to charge us a $1 for it. The heck! We had a graduation party for my daughter today! It was great! They had the tables set up and we basically just put out a couple of table decorations. It was buffet style. The pizzas came out along with the salad at various times so we wouldn't run out and the pizza would stay warm. Several times the server asked if we needed anything and he was very prompt when bringing extra cups or plates. All of the workers were very nice and professional. I come from a family that grew up on Giordano's and they love it still!I must say we are not the easiest crowd to deal with it's lots of adults and a handful of kids. They have always provided great service to our group when we come here. If I had to say this one or the midway location this one wins. I will never go back to midway total mess and opposite. Steve is the manager here and he's always greeting all the customers ensuring the whole meal is as you should expect it to be. This has been the first and only Chicago deep dish style pizza I've ever tried but it's pretty darn good. The first time having it I was wowed but 2nd time around I'm realizing okay it's pretty basic tasting but the experience of having layers of pizza versus flat sizes is a part of the experience. I ordered the vegetarian pizza with the artichokes, olives, onions, bell peppers, broccoli, etc all that comes on it. It's always good and has a garlicky type of light oil that seeps with every bite. The crust is usually nicely textured like a soft cracker?! I can't explain it but it's like a nice crispy pizza pie crust. The sauce I do admit is kinda too much for my preference and starts to taste like ragu sauce from the store after a couple of bites in. Be prepared to wait almost 15-30 mins because I mean it is fresh and thick. We also tried the garlic fries I believe and they were pretty good too served with a side of runny ranch. Maybe to the locals in Chicago they wouldn't be able to give this place a 5 and maybe just a 4. For being from LA this place is a 5, pizza was soo good. Stuffed with mozzarella cheese, salami and mushrooms, topped with olives! The sauce that it's on top of the pizza pie is sooo good, not salty and has a good tomato flavor. I really expected this pizza to be greasy BUT I was wrong, flaky buttery crusted, not greasy at all but not something I would eat every week. Maybe once a year! haha... Unlike most of my reviews here on Yelp I am going to keep this one short and sweet. I have lived here 3 years now and I am just now getting around to writing a review for Giordano's. I need to be flogged in public for this hell worthy trespass. That being said, after you have lived in this area for awhile the establishment starts to become a bit cliche for some reason. Many of the locals act like they are "too cool for school" when it comes to this joint. It's labeled just a spot for tourists while the more sopisticated types scurry off to have their Sunday brunch elsewhere to Yelp about. Chicago is a pretty pretentious place just in general, and when it comes to pizza (and hot dogs) even more so. Well, I have news for you.....These people are pretty much insane. Barring procedural mishaps that you might encounter from a random server or some random kitchen error, you would be hard pressed to find a place that consistently kicks out better old school deep dish pies.
