Visiting Chicago for the first time and everyone told me this place was a must visit. We decided to try it. We ordered some beers and the classic deep dish pizza and a ceasar salad. The food was delicious and this place is very busy. We arrived late evening to we actually ordered our pizza while we waited to be called. We walked around the Navy Pier while we waited. When we were called it was only a matter of a little while after that our pizza and salad came out. The service was good, the food was delicious and drinks too. The pizza was certainly different than what us West Coast peeps are used to. It was really good but we easily got stuffed with one or no more than 2 pieces. read more

This review is long overdue because I wanted to wait to experience other pizza places too before I left this eview. (I visited aroud 5:30pm on July 15) Giordano's was my first deep dish pizza experience in Chicago and it was so disappointing that I wanted to try other deep dish pizza places in the area for comparison before I wrote out this review. First, let's talk about the wait. My party of 2 waited about 40 minutes for a table, which we anticipated and was quite happy about. We were at the Navy Pier after all, and I felt that the wait to sit was no problem as I could leave my phone number and wander around the pier as we waited. The ability to pre-order the pizza before hand was also quite nice, in theory (more to come about the pizzas later). The real wait however, came AFTER we sat down. We were seated near the bar area indoor, second table from the restrooms. We then sat and proceeded to wait for the next 25 minutes as we received no attention at all. We tried to get the attention of the female server who waited the table right next to the bathrooms, but that table was leaving so she just processed their check and then left without even a glance toward our direction. So after the 25 minutes of not even getting a greeting, my husband went up to the bar to ask if we could at least get some glasses of water. That's when we found out that our server was actually also the poor bartender, who was manning all the bar seats while also making drinks for the entire restaurant. The poor man was drenched in sweat as he juggled multiple tasks and when we finally came to our table, apologized in a very professional and personable way. We were then able to tell him that was had already ordered our pizza back when we started waiting for a table, and also to place our drink orders. Our wait didn't end though, as we still waited quite a long time until our pizza finally came. (I do not blame our bartender/server as he was working really hard. The management was just terrivle as they were obviously quite understagged.) This wait also leads to the next reason why my Giordano experience was not great. The food. When our our pizza finally came, it was lukewarm at best. The female server who came over tried to do the cheese thing, but the cheese did not string up at all despite her trying to do it twice, because the cheese was no longer warm by the time it reached our table. As we sat so close to the bar, we could also see the kitchen and there were many pizzas that were already done but just hanging out and chilling (pun intended) as they waited to be taken to the customers' tables. I am sure our pizza had also sat idle for quite a while before it came to us, because it was colder than delivery pizza. For me, the whole point of eating at a pizzeria is to be able to eat steaming hot fresh pizza moments out of the oven, so this was very disappointing. The taste was okay for cold pizza, but it was overall very underwhelming. Lastly, the main reason why I cannot rate this place any higher is due to its cleanliness. To start with, the tables were sticky. That's maybe understandable as it is a busy restaurant. But also, the women's bathroom was absolutely trashed when I tried to use it. Toilet paper and urine all over the smaller stall, and completely clogged up. Granted, this could have been the job of one messed up customer, but I definitely did not see anyone go in the bathroom to clean it up anytime soon. Also, there was a female server who came out of the restroom area, then put her SHOES on the chairs of the table closest to the bathroom. I saw thw same girl put people's plates on the chair as she organized the table to serve them so that was quite disgusting. Overall, my experience at Giordanos accomplished only one thing. It set the bar for Chicago puzza so low that I appreciated every other pizzeria so much more. Tl;dr: The wait was long and the restaurant unsanitary and understaffed. Service was great! I was immediately seated and only waited for 35-45 minutes for pizza. I like the transparency up front about the wait time. Now to discuss the pizza, all that you need to truly know is that Giordano's beats Lou Malnati's in taste, FRESHNESS (of sauce, toppings, etc.), and crust (except for Lou Malnati's butter crust). This is my second time going to Giordano's and visiting Chicago. The first time I went I had the thin crust pizza and I learned then how overrated this pizza is. I went a second time only because the friend I was with wanted to try their deep crust pizza, and that left me even more disappointed with Giordano's. Aside from the deep crust, the pizza was ordinary and didn't taste that great, plus we had to wait for an hour to get a table. However, they let you order the pizza while you book your reservation, which is very nice. Other than that the service was average. For drinks we got sangrias, which were good. Good to be back to the river cityyy, and when you're here, 2 things you must do....hot dogs and deep dish pizza pie! Went to both Lou and Giordano's twice now. For me, Giordano's is the clear cut winner. Amazing red sauce, crust nice and crispy with a pan like fluff in the center holding the cheese and toppings perfectly together, although not the best pizza I've had(I prefer pies in NYC) this is the clear winner for deep dish here in the Windy City. Lou's was just too mushy and greasy for my taste, but I can get to that in my review there. There are multiple locations here but I've only been to the navy pier location both times. I would only go to this location on a nice day because their outdoor seating is hyyype. The indoor seating is pretty small so big groups are not a good idea at this location. You'd probably take up alittle more than half the restaurant with a party size of 10. Any location you go to, be prepared to wait atleast 30-45 mins to be seated and another 30-45 minutes for your pie. My recommendation would be to look up and know what pizza you want to order because while you're waiting for your table, they will go ahead and prepare your pie so you're only waiting 30-45 minutes once instead of twice!! We actually got really lucky last night and were seated in under 5 minutes! But normally you'll be waiting, I wasn't able to take pictures of the whole pie last night because by the time it came out everyone was reaching in because we were all starving from walking around the whole day in the city but got a snap of my slice and glass of wine. Both times I got the Chicago classic which is their version of a supreme pizza. Nothing special about the toppings or the cheese, really what makes the pie unique in my opinion is the red tomato sauce. The navy pier location is a nice one because you can experience the Pier and the pizza pie all in one outing instead of making it 2 separate events. I also ordered the sampler and wings but were devoured by the time I could bust my phone out......my recommendations if you want any apps are the wings or the garlic cheesy bread. Yes there's a long wait, but you can put your name down and they'll text you when your table and pizza is ready. Our table was an hour wait and the pizza was 1.5 hour wait. Ordered a Mt Dew, it was out and the waitress wasn't sure when it would be ready. We ordered the Chicago Classic minus mushrooms, add olives....the pizza arrived as a "made to order" and the server forgot to add the pepperoni back. We were meeting our friend's son and his fiancée who live near Navy Pier for an early dinner. Our party of 6 was seated and the server, Cassie, was very friendly, introducing herself and having friendly banter with us. We ordered pizza and then also decided to get a salad while we waited. We were brought the wrong salad, she took it back, and we continued to wait. Our pitcher of sangria arrived and it was about 60% ice, barely serving us. Our pizzas arrived and one pizza had the complete wrong toppings (2 of our pizzas mistakenly had the exact same toppings). One was a deep dish but was supposed to be a thin crust. When told it would be a 30 min wait for a new pizza, our friend just took the deep dish. Our salad came out after the pizza and was honestly the worst salad ever. The dressing tasted like milk. The bill arrived and had the extra salad charged so it had to be redone. While we were waiting for the bill another server tried to serve us another table's appetizer. Our server was clearing away dishes and knocked a glass over onto our friend who had gotten the wrong pizza, getting her dress wet. None of this was accompanied by any kind of apology. The server was never outright rude, but if you bring the wrong food or spill on a customer, an apology would be nice. The final insult was the bathroom was literally nausea inducing. At least two people had had a very very bad time in there and I will leave to your imagination what the conditions were. We have had some really good meals at Giordano's but please go to another location. Navy Pier ain't it. read more

This was our first time to visit a Giordano's and unfortunately we were very unimpressed. The wait for a table was almost an hour and a half so you place your pizza order when you put your name on the seating waitlist. The plan is that the pizza should be ready and delivered hot when you are seated. Once we were seated another 45 mins went by before our server told us that our pizza order couldn't be found and she would raise it to her manager. No less than 3 minutes later, they miraculously "found" our order and delivered it luke warm and undercooked. This was nearly 2 hours after we placed our pizza order. The only good part was that our server was kind enough to remove the pizza from our bill when we told her that it was not hot and was undercooked. read more

As always a classic place to get pizza at in the city. This location is very busy so I recommend ordering your pizza after you check in for a table. It takes about an hour for a deep dish pizza . The staff is all very kind and friendly. I would go back to this location if I was in the area and was craving some pizza. read more

Worst place ever... if I can put zero stars I would. First of all the service here is horrible. I mean worst ever. It took them 20mins to to take our order and then 1hr and 15mins to bring us our pizza. Another 15 to 20 mins to bring us our bill after we asked for it. Then the waiter didnt have a pen for us to sign after he ran our card. ( I dont know if this was a scam for us to leave it blank so they can cheat and steal from us because they stoled from us ). We had to get up and go find a pen so we can sign our check. Then the hostess for that day (Aug 15, 2019) walked by with an attitude and asked us if we was gonna leave without paying. I showed her the receipt and said I already got my card charged and we need a pen to sign. She rolled her eyes and walked away. Awesome deep dish pizza. However, THE WAIT IS LONG. Expect at least a 45 minute wait if you're ordering deep dish pizza. I believe they make it and pop the pizza in the oven on the spot, once an order comes in, so it takes awhile for the pizza to cook and arrive to the table. Order an appetizer while you're waiting if you're eating in or just get take out. Since Navy Pier attracts a lot of people, expect a wait and every once in awhile, crappy service. My server was constantly running around and sometimes getting her attention, placing an additional order or request was hard or took way too long because she had a lot of tables to tend to at once. If you're in Chicago, trying out deep dish pizza is a must, and Giordano's DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. However, patience is a virtue and this place really tests your patience (so be prepared for long waits and staying in this restaurant at least an hour). read more

Giordano's is the number one pizza chain in Chicago, IL. However, Giordano's-Navy Pier is the worst one! I dined in Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 12:00pm. I was greeted and seated quickly. Came in for lunch,ordered a beer and some food. The glass was chipped and a piece broke off in my drink. It cut up my tongue and roof of my mouth. In the end the General Manager had me fill out a report to cover themselves of course. They didn't do anything to make it right,they still charged my full price. Any deep dish pizza place in Chicago will warn you that it takes at least 40 minutes for your pizza to be ready from the time you sit down to order. The nice thing about Giordano's is that you can order as soon as you put your name on the wait list and they start cooking it almost immediately. This definitely helps to shorten the wait time. I know this for a fact because we wanted to change our order but the kitchen had already started baking our pizza, so we had to stick to our original order. We got the large meat and more meat deep dish, which is plenty to feed five people. Their crust is very plain and non-oily. It's almost a bread stick consistency, with a slight crunch. If you're into a chewier, fluffier crust, then Giordano's is not for you. I was surprised to find that the meat pizza didn't feel as overwhelming as it sounds. Yes there's a lot of meat, but it wasn't overly salty. They also have a lot of frozen pizzas you can buy and take home to bake. As far as their drinks go, they make a decent sangria but their tequila sunrise had an artificial cough syrup-like taste and an unpleasant aftertaste. Their cheesy bread is a decent appetizer and I would also recommend their house salad. read more

It was good pizza and I would highly recommend it for the tourist attraction of it all, but as far as pizza goes it was not the highest quality pizza I've had in my life especially for the price. If you are wanting to go, know that it will take 45 minutes to make the pizza and they will warn you of this, so it's not on them if it takes a while. I didn't really mind the wait because of the warning, it was more the service wasn't very on top of it. We asked multiple servers multiple times throughout our experience for napkins and silverware, but didn't get any until maybe 10 minutes after our food came. This was our first time in Chicago and the experience at this Giordano's locations was horrible. We waited 6 hours for two pizzas only to be told that they were lost and it would take another hour to make one. The manager was also extremely rude which made the situation worse. When in chicago you cannot not try the deep dish pizza and what better place than Giordanos.. happened to stop by this place while touring Navy Pier.. convenient for tourists to stop by when in the vicinity.. 50 minutes standard wait time typically here but what I like is after taking your name down they let you place your deep dish pizza order since it takes 1 hour to make..great strategy to ensure the wait time and service time is in sync.. they send a text when the table is ready and you can kill your wait time by hanging out outside or grabbing a drink across or shopping around.. we tried The Special deep dish pizza and it was really good and filling..while i was done and stuffed with one slice my fiance went in for another.. service is outstanding and the staff is very friendly and nice..i am not a huge fan of deep dish pizzas but i had to stop by during my time in Chicago.. would recommend to all.. read more

Awful. After 1.5 hours at our table we ended up leaving, WITHOUT getting any food. Staff was rude and defensive. They took our pizza order upfront (as they do in Giordano's) and then sat us down promptly. But then they just ignored us. I had to get up several times and go ask waiters who was serving our table. Finally, after 30-40 minutes, they sent someone who brought us our drinks. About an hour in we started asking about our pizza and kept getting fairly rude and defensive responses that it takes more than 40 minutes to make a pizza. Finally, after 1.5 hours, I went to the kitchen and told manager that we were leaving, unless he can show me our order. Her clearly can't find it, and the rest of the stuff was embarrassed as well. But they kept being defensive rather than polite or apologetic. So, we ended up leaving after 90 minutes without dinner. read more

Nice place to enjoy the city scape of Chicago and to grab some great food. I was able to get some great pictures of the city and the lake. Since I was by myself I ordered the personal Deep Dish pizza with pepperoni and it was the perfect size. Keep in mind that no matter the size it does take 45 minutes to make. A top I learned after the fact if you have a long wait is to place your order on line so that your food will be ready shortly after your table is. Some locals will direct you to the less touresty spots but I would say that if you are right on time and already in the area this is an excellent spot for so.e Chicago pizza. read more

Ugh. I hate to write something this negative and give a place only one star but gosh, I have had one of the worst customers service experience here and I am from Eastern Europe! And if you have been or are also from there, you know what I am talking about. I have been to many Giordano's and know how busy they can get and as someone that used to work as a waitress back in the day I totally know how that feels and respect when I see waitresses and waiters running around, but one thing is to be busy and the other thing is to be just straight rude and overlook customers purposely just because they are not in your section. After waiting for the table to free up for about 45 minutes (we already placed our order and just roamed around Navy Pier), we received a text that prompted us to come back to the check-in station within 10 minutes otherwise we would lose our table. So we did rush back and made it on time. Yet, they still made us wait about 25 more minutes before they sat us down. What is the whole point in trying to have the text system and rushing us back to the place if the table was nowhere close to being ready? After we have asked three times, the rude hostess (I could see her eyes rolling) finally wanted to give us a table - but inside. We specifically asked right upon arrival that we were willing to wait longer but wanted to sit outside, so there was more waiting and extremely unpleasant stance from her side. Anyway, after we were seated down, no one came to offer a menu or ask if we wanted to drink something. Ten minutes passed and still nothing, so I asked a random passing waiter if we could order our drinks with him, but he told me he is going to get our waiter since this is not his section. However, since no one was coming in the next five minutes, I asked again - this time another waiter if we could order our drinks (it was a warm day and we were parched!). I also asked if our pizza (that we ordered at that point about 2 hours ago) was already ready as it said on the ticket that it should have been ready 25 minutes ago. The waiter unwillingly took our drink order but again we were not in his section :-D ... Until this day I don't know whose section I was actually sitting at and why would they be so crazy reluctant about helping out a customer that was not in their section. Again, I used to work as a waitress and of course, I primarily took care of my section but if anyone else needed help. It is a customer, period. Not sure how Giordano's Navy Pier trains its staff but clearly it needs some improvement. Our drinks did not arrive for another 10 minutes, pizza arrived before them but significantly colder than usual. According to our ticket, it was supposed to be ready about 40 minutes ago and I could swear it was sitting out of the oven for at least 30 minutes. Our pitcher of beer (that I asked two more times for) never arrived, because "their bartender did not arrive and they were waiting for him as they were changing their bartenders shift at the moment". Hillarious excuse if you ask me. There was more to the story but I am getting frustrated just remembering this. What a disappointment. If I did not have friends visiting from another town in Chicago, I would have left right after they would have me wait so long just to get to my table after they said it was ready... Oh well, just trying to explain here that this is not only one of the most touristy thus busy spots in Chicago but it also has very poor customer service! If you can, avoid eating here and visit their location in South Loop or River North. Frankly, I even like the pizza at those two spots better than at Navy. First time experiencing Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. It was incredible! We went at 3pm... only a 15 minute wait for a table, but the Deep Dish were taking about an hour fifteen. We were able to order the pizza ahead of time, then ordered drinks and a salad when we arrived at our table. I really enjoyed it and looking forward to my leftovers! Chicago Classic : pepperoni, green pepper, onion, mushroom 7.7/10 (Brett) 7.1/10 (Brady) $24 (Small = 6 slices) Stop #1 on our Chicago Deep Dish Tour and we decided to go with the undisputed heavy weight champion. Giordano's was once synonymous with Chicago Deep Dish and has found even more fame by going commercial and expanding throughout the country. "They" say it's Chicago's best but we still don't know who "they" are and as dedicated pizza reviewers we decided to find out for ourselves. We went with the Chicago Classic Deep Dish. Weighing in around 10lbs, this thing was STACKED with cheese. We think they pride themselves in their #cheesepulls and go out of their way to make theirs the cheesiest. So while it looks great in photos, it tends to dominate the whole pizza. To make the dough to cheese ratio more favorable they make this really "doughy" with no type of crunch. And then the veggies were a little undercooked and not chopped up small enough in our opinion. For the best known deep dish spot, our expectations were higher especially after @stoolpresidente gave this his highest Chicago Deep Dish rating of 8.4. Did Giordano's sell out and go too commercial? We have been to Chicago many times, and have tried a few different pizza places, famous ones or local ones. This particular Giordano's is at a great location for sightseeing, but it is awful if you wanna get a table quick (or within decent time...). You have to expect at least 1 hour wait during normal dinner hours. Well, we got there at the worst time, around dinner time on Saturday during labor day weekend. We got in line and waited for 30min to put name down, at the patio area. Waited in another line indoor for 40min to preorder the pizza. Then waited another 2 hours before we actually got seated. I have to admit that they have great deep dish pizza. We love the meat and more meat one! I would highly recommend to dine in at other location if you don't want to wait, or order online for carry out. read more

This is a bit late but better later than never?? I just had to boast about this pizzeria and the outstanding job and welcoming attitude we received from the employees. One of two people I have to mention is David the barista. He was off the chain. He was very attentive to our needs and even served us our first slice of pizza and our first mug of beer. He made the long wait well worth it. No complaints there. The second person was the very nice manager but unfortunately I don't remember her name. But she was attentive as well.
