We came to the classic Giordano's for a late lunch, and had the goal of sampling the final two local Chicago favorites of deep-dish pizza and Italian Beef Sandwich. Giordano's has two floors for seating but was very busy with 20-minute waits. I liked how you can get on the waitlist and order a pizza (and only pizzas) ahead of time. This place definitely feels like a big sports bar. I got the individual, 6" deep beef pie, which is supposedly a hybrid of the Italian Beef Sandwich merged with the deep dish pizza crust. It was not bad - nicely seasoned and tender beef, good amount of cheesiness, and a nice soft, chewy crust. I should have gotten a real Chicago Pizza, since its not the same without tomato sauce! (3 stars) The Chicago Beef Sandwich was much better, especially with provolone cheese. The beef was already flavorful, but when dipped in that Au Jus the flavor really elevated. It had a nice side of sweet green peppers and this spicy pickled relish. The minestrone side dish was also pretty decent. (4 stars). Service was okay, though I wished they refilled our ice water. At the end of the meal we got a pair of milk chocolate bars which was a nice touch. Overall, a good place to try some Chicago culinary specialties. I occasionally order in deep dish pizza from this place (a few times a year), and even though the pizza is always delicious, the delivery is ALWAYS late. Tonight's delivery window was 60-70 minutes, and it took 90 minutes for the pizza to be delivered. I would prefer they deliver on time, or, at the very least, give accurate delivery windows. Additionally, to rub salt in the wound, I usually order a side of dressing to go with my pizza, and I have never received it. Whoever packs the orders for the delivery person clearly never checks the receipt. They can do better! read more

Pizza was truly terrible. I've had frozen pizzas from the supermarket that tasted better than this. The crust was dry, hard, and flavorless, the sauce was bland, and the cheese was rubbery. Oh, and the garlic bread was awful too--like lightly toasted brad with some butter on it. Not garlicky at all. The host/hostess situation wasn't great either. Where it's crowded it's hard to tell who you're supposed to talk to, and the staff there tonight was either overwhelmed or under-trained. One of them got pretty snappy with a customer about a question the customer had about how they'll be notified when their table was ready (and which the hostess hadn't been clear on in the first place). Ambiance needs work too. It's all hard surfaces and concrete so it's super loud, there's no real decorations or anything that gives it a vibe, and the only thing to look at are TVs. Oh, and there are no printed menus; there's a QR code to scan that takes you to a non-mobile website menu that is tiny and hard to read. Definitely not the experience I was hoping for. read more

I'm so glad we were referred to this place, as the customer service and food was delicious! Although we were unable to eat inside, they made outside dining a great experience. They have heaters at each individual table and the manager frequently checked on us to ensure we had a great experience. Worst experience ever. We waited 1 hour and 30 mins just for one medium deep dish pizza. We were waiting and hoping to get out pizza but apparently the servers took our pizza to a different table. The fact that gets me upset was that the server didn't tell us about the situation and we had to go up to them to figure out what happened to our pizza. They do have a few TVs, so you can catch a game. Pizzas here take 45 minutes to cook. At least that's how long our waitress told us our pizzas would take when we ordered. The wait was kind of long, but manageable. I ordered a "starter" size caesar salad, priced at $4.95 to keep me entertained. It was A-OK, but a little iceberg-y for my liking. Not a lot of nutrients that the romaine would normally give me. The pizzas came out shortly after. I ordered a small cheese "world famous stuffed deep dish pizza", priced at $16.50. My initial thoughts were great. I loved it. After a couple slices, it started to get way too heavy for me. The amount of cheese inside these things is incredible. It was too much for me though. I liked the sauce a lot, which was probably my favorite part. The dough was nice and soft, also a highlight. If you haven't been, you have to try it. Giordano's is an extremely popular deep dish pizza chain in Chicago. While it wasn't quite for me, I could appreciate it. If you're debating between a small or personal, I'd say go for the personal. Came here during a visit to Chicago and ordered THE SPECIAL (sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onions) and added pepperoni, which made it charged as a "create your own". Very close within walking distance from Warwick Allerton Hotel where I was staying for a conference. The pizza would be worth 5 stars. My group had a variety of pizzas (deep dish, regular and thin crust) and all were excellent. The thin crust was delicious and it's hard to always find a place that gets the right thin crust. The reason for the 4 stars is I ordered an antipasto salad and added grilled chicken, but the chicken was ice cold. On top of that they ask if that can take photos of you with the food which felt like a cute experience if they have a website you can get the photos... no they print them, show you and say you can buy them. Aloha, when in Chicago you must have a true deep dish pizza. Okay we've all had versions of, at the chains, but real deep dish pizza is more fluffy crusty, not chewy. Giordano's is the classic version and the real McCoy. First, it takes at least a 1/2 hour from when ordered, you sit in anticipation for a great meal (with a line out the door waiting even longer). You bide your time by walking over to the glassed in kitchen, watching them press dough then flinging it in the air and flying it across the room to a rack, amazing it lands every time exactly on the rack LOL. Then another person drops the thin dough into a pan, starts filling with yummy cheese, meats sauce etc, then another thin dough and more cheese meat & sauce, wow! Your mouth starts to water as the table next to you receives their pizza and the aroma seeps over to our table, yum, I'm starving now. Then ours arrive, wow, I was only going to have 1 piece, yikes I'm now on piece 2. Roll me home, or I guess I walk home to wear off what I just ate, satisfied tremendously. Had to come to Giordano's while in the Windy City. Bottom line: 8.5 rating (Barstool Pizza Scale). Giordano's over Lou Malnati's. I ordered a small classic pizza. The wait time is about 40-50 minutes to make the pizza. The inside has a bar area and plenty of seating. I got it to go, but I can imagine there is probably a waitlist when it gets busy. The pizza was very flavorful. I can see why it's a go-to while in Chicago. The sauce, cheese, peppers/onions, and sausage all compliment each other in taste and do not overpowering each other. The crust is not doughy at all and crisp on the edges. I devoured it and wish I had ordered a larger pie. I will definitely be back to try other pizza pies from Giordano's whenever I'm back in Chicago. I highly recommend this pizza restaurant and can see why it's so popular. read more

Was told it was going to be a 15-25 min wait, but were seated in just a few minutes which was great. Pizza came out perfectly - but the service was a little slow. Our server rarely came around to refill drinks and when she did, she never brought the refill so just asked the for the check and had to wait another 15 min for her to come collect (after going in to the host stand).
