I've not made it a secret that I love deep dish pizza, and specifically, Giordano's. I'm still extremely bitter that Dayton has one and Cincinnati still doesn't, but I guess that doesn't matter much for the Indianapolis review. Their pizza is consistently cheesy and delicious. However, this Indy location needs a bit of work. I felt kind of bad because my friend isn't a big fan of deep dish but I REALLY wanted Giordano's. I rationalized that she picked dinner the night before and it was my turn. She agreed, but looking back she may have chosen a better lunch option. We came in to a well air conditioned restaurant, which is absolutely crucial in this heat. I. AM. DYING. Anyway, we took a seat and were aptly greeted by our server. She wasn't exactly unfriendly, but a bit difficult to find. I have a feeling she wasn't a kid person because the two tables next to us had children and I watched the interactions she had with them. It was awkward. Giordano's has an excellent lunch menu. For under $10, you can receive a personal pizza, pasta, or sandwich with a side and drink. I ordered the sausage deep dish with fries and my friend had the thin crust cheese with fries. The food took a surprising amount of time to come out. They say to allow 45 minutes for the deep dish to cook. I thought that meant full size pizzas, not the mini ones. I never asked if my pizza was the reason for our extended wait time, but I assumed it was a good bet because my friend's thin crust was ice cold and our fries were limp and bland. Her food could not be enjoyed without a hearty addition of ranch. Luckily my pizza was hot and filling because I left a good portion of my fries on the table. The saving grace for Giordano's is the ability to buy frozen pizzas and take them home in their insulated bags. I took a sausage and a spinach pizza home to Cincinnati safely and enjoyed them in the comfort of my house. I've never hesitated visiting a Giordano's, but I'd probably think twice about coming to this location. It's smack dab in the middle of multiple A+ lunch offerings, so if you really want the deep dish, maybe eat elsewhere and get some of their frozen pizza to go. read more

Visited Giordanos and placed a large carry out order of $200+ scheduled for a pickup at 10:45PM on a Saturday night - which is right before they close at 11PM. The young gentleman working the register was extremely helpful and accommodating, and provided extra plates, utensils, red pepper, etc. The only problem was when I arrived back to the location to deliver the order this was for, it was missing 3 entree salads. My fault for not checking the order prior, but nonetheless frustrating. Biggest problem being that this creates a huge time issue because Giordanos was then closed by the time I realized the issue, and now I had to rush to find something else for the people who this was for. All in all, the food was fresh, hot, super delicious, and all of the weird requests were nailed - just missing the salads. I called the next day and 'Bill' was super helpful and worked to make it right. I will definitely be back to give it another shot. read more

So I came into this place for lunch and the host was great! Greeted us and kindly asked if we wanted a table or booth we got a booth as we asked for one but the problem that we had was the server I came into today wanting to take my grandchild here to enjoy some famous deep dish pizza the food was great but our server for lunch was horrible he came up to the table didn't introduce himself and seemed like he had a horrible attitude my granddaughter being 9 years old tells me and says he doesn't seem happy.that there says a lot. as I was walking to the bathroom he was complaining about a table asking too many questions ...that table sadly was us! Went here on my lunch break wanting something quick. Ended up in and out in about 75-ish minutes. Not too shabby. I got the Caesar salad as an appetizer. Very solid salad with a nice creamy dressing. Meets expectations of what a Caesar to should be. Waited 30/35 minutes for the spinach artichoke and feta extra thin crust pizza (which is stated normal on their menu). The toppings were tasty and nicely distributed throughout the pie. However, the dough tasted like it was from frozen/from a distribution center. Sad that it did not taste fresh or have a proper crisp that most extra thin pizzas do. Will know to ask for EXTRA crispy next time. Server Makaila was quick, polite and to the point. I will say upfront that I am not a huge Chicago style pizza fan, but I did like the Meat and More Meat pizza at Giordano's. The thing keeping this place from a higher rating is the service. Not necessarily our waiter who was nice and kept our drinks rolling and managed our large party well. It took well over an hour to get a small pizza. I know I saw notes about it taking 45 minutes, but we waited twice that. We got there shortly after opening and it was not that busy yet. We were in town for a volleyball tournament at the convention center. I would think that restaurants would staff accordingly when they know big events are in town especially when business is probably slow during the week. I came here for lunch and boy, was it fast. I think I was in and out in 30 minutes. I ordered off their lunch menu where you pick one entree, one side, and a soft drink for $10. I had what is probably my favorite quintessential Chicago food, the Italian beef sandwich, and it tasted exactly how they did at the Giordano's by my parents' house north of Chicago. Not chewy, salty and greasy, just the way it should be. And of course you have to have it with hot giardiniera. I sat outside on the patio and even though it is really close to the sidewalk (in fact, it was just built right over the sidewalk) the foot traffic wasn't intrusive at all. It probably helped that the entire patio area was covered by an awning, which made it seem more intimate. This location is less than a 5-minute walk from my office, so I foresee many a trip here. read more

The place was strangely empty but the dining area itself was an instagram dream! Exposed concrete, wood tables, GIANT light up sign, etc. Our waitress was prompt in getting our order. We started with the fried artichoke app and it was DELICIOUS. It wasn't too hot like some fried foods are and the pesto dipping sauce was amazing. After we finished that it was quite a wait for our pizza (maybe that's normal for deep dish? Who knows.) The pizza was very cheesy, not as cheesy as some of their photos make it out to be, but still a good amount. The sauce wasn't anything special but the crust tasted great! Very buttery crispy. Something else that was good though was that they allow you to order toppings on half of a pizza. I ordered pizza at 11:00 am this morning so it could be ready and delivered at 930 pm for 14 hungry volleyball players (from Illinois). I ordered on line as directed by their phone message and calling the store. They ensured me it would be ready. The order had not arrived at 945 pm. I called and it took close to 15 minutes for someone to provide an answer on the order. They said that it would be another 20 minutes. It finally arrived annhohowever the pizzas were very dark and one was COMPLETELY BURNT. I spent close to $200 on inedible food. My daughter and I were in last week for our Sorority's CentennialCelebration. When walking back to our hotel we first stopped at the Italian place next door. Having heard of Girdanos we popped over to compare menus. There we met Tia. We asked which restaurant was better. Fully aware of the time it can take to bake a full size deep dish pie from the Giordano's Chicago Loop location it can take upward of an hour or more before your order arrives. Well, the menu for lunch is set up for much faster dining times and I ordered the Italian Beef with hot peppers. Food came out quickly and those in our lunch party who ordered the personal size pies were greatly satisfied. I love this place. I tried it in Chicago and was so thrilled to see that they opened one right here in Indy! I think that the food tastes just as good as the one in Chicago, and very filling! This review is very saddening for me to write. To begin I LOVE deep dish pizza. Especially when it comes to Giordano's but I must only give this two stars because the experience we had there was not great at all. Since we have frequented Giordano's locations many times (both in Chicago and in Indianapolis) I know some of the tricks. For example order as soon as you get there so you won't be waiting as long when you are finally seated. I understand due to the nature of what you are ordering the ticket times are going to be higher. Once we had waited and were sat our waiter checked on us less than five times during our entire dining experience. We waited at least 15 minutes before he even asked what we wanted to drink. The next time he checked on us was when the pizza came out and our drinks were almost empty. While eating he checked on us one more time. By the time we were done eating I was ready for the check and wasn't sure how much longer we would sit there before he checked on us again. I felt rude stopping him to ask for the check but when we weren't being checked on as we should have been. Typically I'm very lenient when it comes to service and waiters but this was just not great at all. I will say that the food was great as always but the service gets a no from me. Hopefully this is just a one time thing but it seemed as though all the tables were getting this sort of service that night. read more
