Yep...there it is...the 5th star! Had to update my review as the third time was totally the proverbial charm for us! Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for a double date and had an amazing experience -- the kind I *knew* Giordanos is capable of, but we had somehow just missed the first few visits in. Cheated on my 'usual' pizza and tried the Classic and The Chicken Sausage stuffed pizzas this go 'round as the Very Veggie has always been my go to. OMG. The perfect addition of fennel in the chicken sausage elevated this pie to places reserved for the best of the best pizzas... so. friggin. good. I think I may have a new favorite in the Chicken Sausage - or at least a solid choice on a half-and-half option next time! The classic was also good, but I can't stomach onions, so had to be 'that girl' that took them out. They were large and easy to spot, so I was able to enjoy a slice of the chock-full of green pepper Classic this visit as well. The table was happy and $15 pitchers of Sam Adams with the purchase of a large pizza for March Madness was a great deal as well! We got 4 pints out of each pitcher -- perfect. I can't even believe I'm writing a negative review about PIZZA. I've tried and struck out twice. Tonight was the final straw and won't be back. We had a bad feeling from the beginning after walking past 13 open tables, yet they were running on a 45 min wait. Service was terrible - to the point where we had to get our own silverware and drinks. At one point we were told they "were out of silverware". Sadly after 80 minutes our pizza came out and was cold. Don't get me wrong, I like cold pizza. But that's not what we came for. Deep dish pizza cold is not good. The service didn't seem to apologetic either. Our server actually laughed when i mentioned the pizza was not hot. There are too many really good pizza joints in town to be disappointed. read more

We got free garlic cheesy bread sticks when we signed up for the Giordano's e-newsletter. Nice! And dang, was that garlic cheesy bread great. We ate the whole order on the way home, and had high expectations for our large thin crust pepperoni pizza awaiting us in the carryout box. Alas, the pizza was no good. Perhaps it was our fault for ordering the thin crust at a pizza place that's known for deep-dish pizza. In any case, we were disappointed. But the bread sticks were so good that we'll try this place again -- but next time, we'll get the deep-dish. This place has the best pizza I've ever had! We ordered a Chicago classic pepperoni deep dish! O-M-G! If you are a fan of cheese and toppings you need to try this pizza!! So much cheese it was amazing! The crust is phenomenal too crisp and tender. For dessert we tried a white chocolate chip, caramel cookie for dessert it was hands down the best dessert cookie I've had! It was served in hot in a pan topped with ice cream. I ordered two pizzas and a "family-size" house salad for carry-out. Everything (friendly service, items ready on time, etc.) was wonderful. The pizza sauce was amazingly authentic and very tasty. I really loved everything. I wish the House Salad was much larger, as it seemed rather expensive ($18) for just some spring lettuce mix and a few tomatoes and onions (and parmesan). In any case, I would definitely order from Girodano's again. The Chicago Classic Deep Dish was huge... one piece was definitely filling. The Margherita Parmesan Crust was great, too. I have now tried all of the Chicago Deep Dish places... even though this was not in Chicago. I wanted to try a local place, but this was close by, and I knew I could sit down. I also thought if I ordered ahead, I could be eating by 6:45. Now you know that I am more Neapolitan, then New Haven style, but I can throw some Chicago into the mix. Ordered ahead, because I'm not a rookie, got there, and thankfully they sat us quickly. Server was working the bar and another table or two on the main floor. Poor girl was hustling. Salad - yes, I eat the food my food eats now. Trying to be a bit healthier. Down about 20 lbs, so have to keep my beach figure (beach volleyball - I'm frightened of jelly fish). Good salad. Nice dressing, good stuff. Pizza - well this hurt, we figured by ordering early we would be eating by 6:45... nope. 7 pm, asked our server and she goes back and checks... no runners... no one let her know the pizza was ready. 7:10 - the pizza arives. Another table ordered after we did and both tables got the pizza at the same time. So much for calling ahead. First slice was good, good sauce, love the sausage, nice cheese pull... crust was pretty good. Second piece.. and it has cooled rather quickly, no need to knife and fork, just ate it, also, I entered starving, so I knew three slices were going down. Crust... hmm... not as firm as the first slice. Third slice - yeah, I achieved my goal. My Fitbit should have buzzed because I nailed it. Cooler still, and I can throw it down pretty quickly. Crust - I didn't finish my crust and I always finish my crust. I felt bad for our server. She was hustling, but it appeared she was having to fight her own crew and we suffered for it. This was my first experience here. The food is a little pricey, but well worth it. Highly recommend the deep dish bbq bacon chicken pizza. Expect a 40ish minute wait but they're very upfront about that so it was fine. The restaurant is a little noisy, but my man and I didn't mind. It wasn't overwhelming. Also, Kailey served us today. She said she's new, but she was amazing! She even boxed the pizza for us when we were finished. Well worth it, we will be returning. read more

I have never had pizza this good. Granted I only eat it in small quantities, it's worth the treadmill time I have to put in later! I picked up carry out on 03/03/2017 when they opened. A nice employee (O. Sanchez) took my order around 10:15 am and was the nicest, most polite employee of any restaurant I've ever dealt with over the phone. While she read back my order correctly, the system didn't record it correctly so the sausage was added on top after I arrived to pick it up (see my pic). Food here is seriously top notch. If you haven't tried it you for sure need to make it a destination. We went here for a devour Indy deal last week. We got sat quickly and chose to sit outside since it was a nice afternoon. The outside dining area had a lot of spiderwebs on our table and on the fencing next to us. If you are going to have an outdoor section it would be a good idea to keep it clean. I touched a cobweb on our table at one point. Not a great feeling when you are sitting down to eat. The service is wasn't great either. Our waitress took our entire order at the beginning which we were more than fine with but we had a salad that took over 20 minutes to arrive. They weren't even busy so I wasn't too thrilled with the wait. The salad was amazing though once we received it! Their lemon vinaigrette is so good! Me and my mom drove 2 hours pretty much just for this and I can say I'm not disappointed. They were very accommodating with my service dog and sat us somewhere where he would have space to lay down while we ate. They didn't ask questions or ask personal questions, they just sat us down immediately. Out waiter was really nice and he brought fun convo to the table and even served our pizza for us. Was passing through Indianapolis and heard about this awesome place. Luckily we arrive before the dinner rush and were seated immediately, which I hear is rare. The waitress was great and let us now what a first timer should have. So we ordered the all meat deep dish with the bread stick appetizer. The appetizer came out pretty quickly and was great with the marinara sauce. Our waitress said it will be about 40-60 minutes for the pizza to be ready. But it came out in 30 mins! So awesome. First time coming to this location since I've been to one in Chicago. I had a thin crust Giordano's special and it hit the spot for me. Pizza came out all hot with crispy crust. Tomato sauce on pizza was just perfect Most of many other pizza places have sweet tasting tomato sauce which I don't really like. Sausage on pizza was good too. It was juicy and meaty. FOOD IS DELICIOUS! Service is so-so... that's why the four stars. As soon as we walked in, the hostess just stared at us until we said "table for 2." She said "21?" And we both said yes and she just sat us in the tiny bar area literally right next to this guy. It was so strange and she didn't even give us a choice of if we wanted to sit in the bar or not... hmmm. Our waitress was fine but said the minimum amount of words necessary and didn't seem like she wanted to help in any way. She also brought the check out maybe a few bites into our first bites of pizza. Everything was just kinda strange service-wise. But the food truly is delicious. Best deep dish pizza around, and definitely in Indy. They also allowed us to do only half the pizza pepperoni which I appreciated because I'm a cheese-only girl. Came in for a late dinner on a Monday night. We ordered a small Chicago Classic. It takes about 45 mins to cook. The small is about 6 slices and could easily feed about 3-4 people. We've been to Giordano's before in Chicago but this was our first time trying it in Indy. I don't think you can beat a Chicago style pizza from Chicago but it was still good nonetheless. We felt bad because we came in one hour before close but the server was nice and didn't make us feel rushed. We'll be back for more! read more

VerdicTL;DR: Somehow everything Chicago-style becomes a mediocre caricature in Indianapolis ... including chains from Chicago. During my time here in the Indianapolis region, I've eaten at many a different restaurant, and enjoyed cuisines from all across the world. And, uh, I hate to break it to you, but somehow in Indianapolis we do ethnic cuisine better than we do Chicago cuisine ... never mind the fact that we're an easy day-trip away from Chicago itself. That isn't to say that we do ethnic cuisine all that well, either ... it's just that our execution of Chicago cuisine is inexplicably bad. Nowhere is this more apparent than at Giordano's. I mean, yeah, I get it -- this is a Chicago franchise, likely using the very same recipe as Giordano's locations in Chicago. There's no reason why it should be different, as close to Chicago as we are. And yet ... different is exactly what it is. Not different in the so-different-it-loops-into-another-kind-of-good way -- different in the subtly-different-enough-that-it-loops-into-bad way. If eating at Omoni (which takes Korean food and Qdoba-ifies it with oddly satisfying results) is like going to a concert expecting Mozart but getting Dream Theater instead, then eating at this Giordano's is like going to a concert expecting Mozart and getting Mozart all right -- except with random wrong notes everywhere. I should point out that there are at least three major subdivisions of the Chicago-style deep dish scene (at least, as of early 2019): (1) the Pizzeria Uno/Lou Malnati's "original" lineage -- this is characterized by a buttery, biscuit-like crust as the foundation, cheese atop that, toppings (most traditionally a solid sausage patty) atop that, and finally a non-precooked tomato sauce on top. This is my favorite. (2) the Giordano's/Nancy's "stuffed" lineage -- this is characterized by a more traditional pizza dough as the foundation, cheese and toppings intermixed atop that (in a classic Nancy's pizza, for instance, this is shredded mozzarella and spinach), then a second thinner layer of dough sealing the whole thing on top, and finally tomato sauce on top of that second dough layer. This is technically difficult to do correctly, because you run the risk of steaming the sealed-in toppings -- turning everything into mush. (3) the Burt's/Pequod's "burnt-cheese" lineage -- this is like (1), except the crust doesn't go up the sides of the deep dish and instead the side crust is cheese folded over and layered on the pan. This is borrowed from the Detroit-style pizza tradition. I was a Detroiter before I became a Chicagoan, so although this lineage is considered innovative and is a perennial darling of foodies and food critics alike, it doesn't do anything for me. All this to point out that of all of these styles, (2) is the most technically difficult to do. If you do it right, the whole thing has the potential to be almost magically good. If you do it wrong, though, the whole thing has the potential to be soggy everything. It is very easy to do it wrong, and very hard to do it right. And unfortunately, whenever I order from this Giordano's I get soggy everything. It doesn't seem to matter whether I eat on-site or I get carry out -- it's the same results every single time. Oh well. If you want Chicago-style deep dish, I think you'd do better to drive the 3 hours or so to Chicago and eat at a Lou Malnati's (or at Nancy's, if you want a stuffed) instead. Or, better yet, make a Chicago-style deep dish pizza at home. For unlike New York-style pizza, Chicago-style (and Detroit-style) deep dish can be made at home -- indeed it's meant to be made at home. This is the Midwest, where we don't need fancy wood-fired or coal-fired ovens to do our thing. read more
