I love the Chicago and Florida locations that we go to whenever we are near. The wait staff was really nice and tried to be helpful. This location had rules that we were not used to. We usually get the special and add pepperoni for an additional charge. We were told we could not do that, it would be a create your own and that costs more. We asked for a frozen pie, the special, that we could get the next day. We were told they only had single topping pies that could be packed to travel 6 hours. My husband got his Italian beef sandwich which taste great. We got the Chicago but it was cold and we could tell it was missing the sausage. Overall it was ok, but I think we will stick to Florida or Chicago and skip this location when visiting. read more

Excellent deep dish pizza dining experience. Our server, Dustin, was a big part of that goodness. The food was all fresh and tasty: from piping hot calamari (with fried lemon slices and pepper rings), a entree dinner salad to share (with shaved fennel), a kids' personal pizza, and a deep dish Chicago Classic. The hostess was patient and helpful. The place was clean. I enjoyed watching them make the pizzas, it reminded me of when I was a child at Noble Romans. I arrived at 4p on a Friday and the dining area wasn't very busy yet - although it was a bit busier than one might expect for that time, but the quote of 45min to wait for the order was accurate. I ordered a small deep dish pizza with grilled chicken and mushrooms and garlic cheese sticks to go - it cost ~$30. I wouldn't recommend wasting $8 on the garlic cheese sticks. My boyfriend has been raving about this place so I had to give it a try. If you're trying to get in right away I say get there before 5:30. Anytime after that you may have a slight wait. The environment is a typical pizza restaurant vibe but the food is far from typical!! We started off with something light, The Parmesan Fries, that way we would have room for the thick and massive pizza coming our way!! The fries had the perfect amount of Parmesan (I've ran into places that barely put anything on their specialty fries). Then we ordered the 12inch Meat and More Meat Stuffed Pizza. Now, due to the thickness of the pizza they automatically warn you it takes 45 minutes for the pizza to cook. Even though the wait sucks, you know you'll be getting quality pizza. It kinda makes you want the pizza even more lol. The 12 inch was perfect for 1-2 people & filled me up with two pieces. Deep dish has become more common for people, so my expectations run high.... this pizza was good, but... We got a Chicago Classic (pepperoni, onions, bell peppers, sans Mushroom). There was a thin single layer of 'roni on the bottom and the cheese was good and thick. The dough is a bit different, as I recall more of a shortening crust on this pizza, but this was more like traditional dough, shaped like deep dish. It was good, and worth the trip before a movie... but it was little short of authentic Chi-town classic. I will return and get sausage version to help me compare. We ordered the cheese bread and drinks which were brought out by other employees and we sat for about 45 minutes while she walked past us about 12 times and never took our pizza order. Likely an unpopular opinion but I had high hopes going into this as I've heard that it's the "MOST AMAZING PIZZA EVER". Well. It's good, and for the price (which is higher) it's a great deal. Why? Because the slices are SO filling. A small pizza will easily feed 3-4 people. The not so great? The pizza didn't taste like it had been fully cooked. When I took a slice, liquid came along with it and looked at the bottom of the box. It was almost as if the veggies hadn't been precooked to release liquid, which is really quite disappointing. Also got the mozzarella triangles and the calamari -- stay away from the fried food here. It was SO greasy and retained a lot of oil. It really was not good at all. I'm really struggling on what to rate Giordano's. I grew up with them in Chicago. They have always been my ultimate favorite stuffed pizza maker on the planet. One time I literally walked miles to get one and take it home. It's worth it, but the newest addition to the chain in Indianapolis has certainly disappointed me on multiple occasions. Before opening "officially," we carried out the all famous cheesy pie without problems. For those that love Chicago style stuffed pizza you'll probably agree with me that this stuff would be a solid bartering item pre-dating currency. I felt like I was going to get jumped by the waiting crowd when trying to make it through the crowd to the door. If only they knew I was packing a stun gun. LOL. Just kidding but in reality these people had it in their eyes. So the first time carrying out went without a hitch. A week later I called and received a busy signal and was hung up several times. Finally, reached someone and they said they weren't taking carry-out orders that day. Grrrrrrrrr.... Seriously? Total let down. Forget running the dining room. Focus on carry out. Get as many pies out there. Then again they're proving the supply and demand concept works. Last week I jumped online and placed an order to be picked up at 4PM. Totally stoked that I even got a spot in the queue, I drove to the restaurant and was faced with a line of fellow pizza lovers already assembled. The sign on the door said "Closed until 4PM due to an adjustment to the oven." Not a big deal since my pick-up time was 4PM. They promptly opened at 4PM and I made it fairly quickly to the carry-out counter. Then it happened. The online order system crashed and no orders placed online made it to the restaurant. WHAT! No! This can't be happening. I thought I was going into shock. Long story short, the manager offered me a free pizza if I was willing to wait at least 45 minutes for it. I ended up sitting at the bar and enjoyed a glass of pinot grigio until my pizza came out an hour and 15 minutes later. By then there was a huge line, 3 1/2 hour wait, and a ton of people packed into a very small waiting area. I ran like fire to my car with all eyes on the box. I know that the bugs will be eventually fixed, but I don't see the hype dying down anytime soon. I look forward to revising the review and increasing my star rating in the future. But for now, I'm going to wait, give my pizza fix a break, and give it another shot months down the road. Better yet, I may just drive to Chicago and get one from the mother ship. I was not one of the legions of fans eagerly anticipating the arrival of Indy's first Giordano's, a Chicago pizza institution since its arrival in 1974 and most famous for its stuffed crust pizza. However, after a long week at work and in anticipation of an expected weekend snowstorm, I decided to spoil myself on this Friday evening and pay a visit to the restaurant during its first few days of opening and, in fact, before its official opening on February 3rd. You could tell that they were still working out the kinks in their systems. As much as they'd been expecting a warm reception from Indianapolis, it seemed like the reception they are getting has overwhelmed them a bit. For those who know Giordano's, you know that their stuffed crust pizza isn't a quick fix with a typical waiting time of 45 minutes to an hour. Tonight, I arrived in the early evening hours and was told to possibly expect 90 minutes and, truth be told, it was more like two hours until my pizza arrived. The waiting area out front is also not a large area and, at times, it seemed like a controlled yet chaotic mess. Let's just say that if you went expecting to have your usual quick meal at Pizza Hut, you'd likely end up stressed out and frustrated. I personally hope that doesn't happen, because even with some kinks left to work out this is an exceptional experience. Giordano's is not only the kind of place where you can actually chill out and enjoy your friends and a meal, it's the kind of place where you really need to chill out and enjoy your friends and a meal. If you order the stuffed crust pizza, you're going to be there a minimum of one hour - you know it, they know it. It's awesome and relaxing and maybe a little bit strange to not feel immense pressure to hurry up, eat your meal, get your one refill, then leave. Enjoy your meal. The restaurant is quite wheelchair friendly and, in what I've never seen before, even has a wheelchair friendly bar with one side of the bar that has a couple spots that are lowered to allow for someone in a wheelchair to easily sit at the bar. I was assured by staff that this decision was quite intentional. While the decision has a couple flaws, for example being a tad too close to the kitchen and being in an easy location for those who want to walk up to the bar and order a drink and disturb your meal, it's still a rare design perk and I really enjoyed myself there. The one time I was bumped by a server, they apologized PROFUSELY. It's rare for me, but knowing I'd be waiting for my pizza I did decide to order an appetizer - their cheesy garlic bread at $6.95. While that may sound a bit high, I can assure you it's a quite healthy serving and easily shared amongst 2-3 people. While I'm usually a fan of good old-fashioned garlic bread, this was simply outstanding with marinara. I also ordered my usual iced tea, in this case a Rishi Organic Tea that offers the expected free refills. It was also quite good and refills were given freely throughout my visit. For my main course, I ordered their stuffed crust pizza - a small that is said to serve 1-2 people. They also offer a thin crust and an extra-thin crust pizza and these are typically served faster (about 25 minutes). All of the pizzas start in the $11-12 price range and go up according to toppings. My 1-topping (sausage) pizza was right around $15. While I've never fancied myself a stuffed crust fan, this pizza was outstanding with fresh and plentiful toppings, a perfect crust, and sauces that hit the spot. I should mention that they do also offer a gluten free option. While many pizzas will say "serves 1-2," this one could easily say "serves 2 and maybe 3." After two slices, I was stuffed and brought the other 4 slices home. The service? It was even better than the meal itself. Sitting at the bar, I was primarily served by the constantly friendly and attentive Rachel along with another bartender. Additionally, there were a couple other servers, one in particular, who stopped by often and checked in (especially while I was waiting on my pizza). While I didn't sense much tension in the restaurant even with the long wait times, I think my naturally calm and friendly demeanor was helping them a bit on a night that was proving busier than they'd expected with strong dine-in and carry-out orders. The servers were conversational, friendly, helpful, and frequent with the iced tea. The bar proved to be a tad high for actually serving out the pizza, but the servers were incredibly helpful with this issue. I also appreciated that on more than one occasion, especially after the 90-minute wait mark, the servers would go check on my order yet they were doing so in a friendly way that was helpful to me without being negative toward each other. The pizza? Incredible. The service? Stellar. The atmosphere? Busy yet warm and inviting. With locations on the way to downtown and Greenwood, I expect Giordano's to quickly become Indy favorites. read more

I was waiting for the perfect place to bestow with my 500th Yelp review, and I have found it! Like the other legions of fans that are Chicago visitors or transplants, I eagerly awaited Giordano's opening and then waited for the crowds to die down. I had lunch there today with my kiddo. At 12:30 p.m. on a Monday, we got right in. Someone else noted that they have a lot of two-person tables, so small parties probably get in quicker -- I did not actually notice a lot of tables geared to large parties. They have ten different $10 lunch specials that come with a main dish, side, and drink. Peanut and I opted for the personal pepperoni deep dish, Caesar salad, and iced tea. When the bill came, I was happy to see that there is no upcharge for adding anchovies to your Caesar. The salad was overdressed almost to the point of being inedible, but there were tons of fishies, cheese, and croutons on it. The pizza was the star, perfectly cooked and to the table about ten minutes after ordering. Iced tea was fresh and refilled promptly. Here's where there was the lost of 1.5 stars, but a gain of .5. The service needs some work. Our server was nice and friendly, but did not automatically bring a spare plate when I told her my daughter and I were sharing the lunch special (she did quickly bring one when asked). I noticed that the hostess and servers also failed to tell me and other patrons that the deep dish typically takes up to an hour to bake. The tables on either side of me where told only after their drinks were brought. If they would have been told at the door and were able to pre-order there, the pizza would have come 10 - 15 minutes sooner. I heard the patrons muttering with irritation. The servers also failed to push the lunch specials, which included several personal deep dish varieties that were coming out quickly. I felt like all of this was missed opportunity, so I called the manager, Rachel, tonight. Here's where they earned back that 1/2 star. She was very receptive to my constructive criticism and agreed with what I said. She said they have been struggling to let Indy patrons know that deep dish takes a long time and that pre-order is available. She is working to train and retrain servers and hosts to let patrons know of this time gap. I wish them luck, The décor is charming and the pizza is delicious! read more

Im all for technology & ok with them using an ipad to take my order, but our server was stumbling to use his and didnt make eye contact the entire time. We got a deep dish and our friends ordered a thin crust in which he forgot to put their order in on time, so they got to watch us eat for 20 more minutes. He messed up the bills because he "couldn't remember who had what". Our friends gave him a 12% tip, which was more than he deserved from them. So conflicted!! My wife and I have now visited twice and there are some definite positives and some sad outcomes at both occasions. First let me begin by saying I firmly believe that you should get what you ordered. How good or how bad it taste is subjective and we can say how you feel about the service can be subjective too. Their pizza had a rep so we were glad to order a tall mug of suds and wait. I have a dairy allergy so I ordered the Southside Beef sans the cheese. They give you a choice of sweet peppers or spicy which I liked. First of all my sandwich was awesome. Bread fresh meat scrumptious and the au jus sauce just right. Tasted great when it arrived 10 minutes after the 45 minute fresh to cook pizza. That's right a 55 minute sandwich which was great but confusing Let me explain - my wife's pizza came to the table deep I mean deep crust cooked for 45 minutes but that glorious first piece pull from the pan with the cheese to hot it stretches to your plate we all wait for - DIDN't HAPPEN -- cold or I should say cool temp pizza. The look on my honeys face. Like a dementor sucked the joy out. However my sandwich tasted great!! So confusing. We decided we would visit again in a few weeks and see if it would get better. She told me that my name should be in the computer for a comped pizza. Okay cool. So we get there and we eat. It was delicious!!!!!!!! So much better than the first time. So I wanted to leave an awesome review. The check comes and I let our server know that I should be in the computer for a comped pizza. I give him my name and phone number. Guess what guys??? I wasn't in there!!! I just don't see the point in telling someone you're willing to attempt to rectify a situation if you aren't! So many of their reviews are people such as my self that are conflicted because the food was great but the customer service sucked. I would rate this like a 3 1/2. I think it was hyped up so much that my expectations were not met. We got the bruschetta that if you sign up for emails you get a coupon for free bruschetta or cheese bread... The bruschetta was good but they are a little beach on the balsamic vinegar. I wanted a beer but the prices were high so I passed. We ended up ordering a stuffed spinach and a stuffed pepperoni. They take about 45 minutes. It was not busy at all in there. We started with appetizers "The Best" Tomato Bruschetta (Fresh diced tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze on crispy garlic toast) and it was yummy! Piled high with freshly diced yummy tomatos with a sweet tangy balsamic glaze. and Calamari & More! (Fried mix of tender calamari, green beans, lemon rings, banana peppers and shaved fennel served with our house-made marinara sauce). I love calamari! But this was something over the top! Perfectly prepared tender calamari with things I would never expect! Green beans, banana peppers, and lemon rings! Yes I said lemon rings and they were great! and then on to two yummy salads! Giordano's House Salad (Spring greens, romaine, arugula, radicchio, baby tomatoes and shaved fennel tossed in our lemon vinaigrette with shaved asiago cheese. It's a house salad with a little more flare)! and Chopped Salad (A Chicago original! Lettuce, bruschetta tomatoes, chicken breast, bacon, scallions, red cabbage, pasta, peas and blue cheese tossed in our honey mustard dressing). As we headed out to shop we tried to think of someplace we could eat along the way. My brother is a true pizza lover so I strained my brain and I asked him to check his phone for the closest Giordano's. I have wanted to eat here since the big tadoo about them coming. My brother hasn't been either so here we are. The first thing we noticed is that you don't smell that great Italian smell like you do in most pizza places. We are seated quickly as they are not busy. We are greeted by our waiter and a new trainee. He is very nice and funny. We order our Diet Pepsi's and water and check out the menu. One thing I can tell you is this, this place is very expensive! Yes, we have been to other places that serve Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza which was wonderful, but not quite as expensive. We order one deep dish and one thin crust with pepperoni. They come to the table and they are delicious. Now I don't want to seem petty, but we are in a very nice area, next to Harry and Izzy's. Those people are all dressed up dining outside at nice tables with white tablecloths. We are inside, but the waiters and waitresses at Giordano's would look so much better if they spruced up what they wear. Maybe dark pants and a bright shirt that says Giordano's. I'm conflicted. Giordano's in Indy wasn't bad, it just wasn't up to par with Giordano's in Chicago. The server was nice and attentive. I tried a Greek salad to start, which was (somewhat surprisingly) quite good! My pizza wasn't quite right though. The crust on the bottom was literally paper thin and almost non-existent. I can only assume they over stretched the dough? So basically the pizza consisted of a giant blob of cheese with a thin layer of sauce, and crust on the sides. It was also swimming in oil. It was still tasty, but was definitely off. I LOVE cheese, but even for me the ratio of cheese was too much in comparison to the non-existent bottom crust. Having grown up on Giordanos for 40 years, it had been one of my favorite restaurants. But today is the last day I will frequent this chain. Coming from the resturant business, and having parents that were 4 decade business owners, I know what right looks like. Apparently the GM Mrs. Betsy Rodriguez does not. On a slow late lunch Tuesday, one would think a simple modification of an order to meet a child's food sensitivities would be a simple kitchen instruction. But the GM informed me, it was "against their policy" to leave ingredients off one 1/4 of a specialty pizza to meet a child's request. And to add inslut, when I decided not to eat there, she seemed to not care in the slightest, and arrogantly gave me her card after I asked for it to inform corporate. Loved Giordano's in Chicago. The one on 82nd St-- not so much. We waited 20 minutes for a waitress. Our medium pizza took an hour and a half, and it did not taste good. We ordered pepperoni with a couple vegetables. My family of 4 was lucky to find a single piece of pepperoni per slice. Our pizza was an abundance of sauce and cheese with a cardboard crust. My daughter and I felt so nauseous afterwards, and we didn't eat much. I say close the restaurant if you can't do 90 percent better. read more

Strangely enough we managed to get in with a large group of about 15 people on a Friday night even. The restaurant was filled to the max with people. Not sure why they didn't pick a bigger place to start out with. I mean they could have anticipated being busy here in Indy. Anyways, we did hear that they were no longer taking take out orders even, neither over the phone nor the net nor in person. Wow. But happily we had made it to a table. So from my viewpoint it was all good. A few of us were going in on a large pizza. It did take a while for the food, but that is the nature of the beast. The waiter was absolutely great. He kept the drinks coming and tented to all our needs. He was friendly and efficient. Also managed to get all our separate bills right on the first try. That in itself is amazing. When the pizzas came, they all looked delicious. My friends and I had opted for the Chicago classic and it was absolutely delicious. The mozzarella was stringing across the table as we all dug into the pizza. It tasted wonderfully fresh and hot and fabulous. Well worth the wait. I hope that they get the wait and carry outs under control somehow. Hopefully folks will calm down a little once they get to be 'old news' . read more

This place is good. Here's the low down. You need to go put your name on the list and pre-order your pizza. It takes about 45 minutes to make your pizza so be ready to wait and plan ahead Bruschetta- SUPER good and super generous. Lots of tomatoes. The cheese is good. The bread held up nicely. Definitely recommend this. Garlic Parm Fries- nothing special. Very standard and safe. They serve it with ranch. Skip this. Pizza- this is the money maker. I loved the cheese and how hot the pizza was. I loved how the pizza has a "lid" or "top" made from the dough. So basically, they take the dough and stretch it out. Put the toppings, fill it with cheese, then put another dough on top. Then they cover it with sauce. In the oven it goes. I wish the crust was more buttery. It was crispy but a bit dry.
