A busy Italian restaurant in Oak Bluffs I was expecting a very mediocre (or worse) fare but then again we went there just to take the kids. I can find things wrong with pizza but my kids think pizza is pizza and love it anywhere. Well here's the low down. The pizza is very small for what they refer to as a large. The kids loved it and that's what counts. I can say it was a bit doughy but it is what it is. I ordered the fried calamari and was so surprised that it was so tender, fresh, juicy and crispy and tasted really good. And it was even cooked in clean fresh oil. Finding a place that does calamari without a fishy smell and without old burned oil is a challenge but this place does it right! The clam chowder is also very good. There were many servers available so I'm not sure why they didn't have their act together. While it was crowded, it's no excuse. The food was acceptable but nothing to write home about. The spaghetti sauce was probably the best thing I had there. The grilled chicken, not very good - no grill marks, looked like it had been cooked quickly, without seasoning. This place I can say was not the worst as some have said and it was not the type that I can not live with out. However, I did enjoy it. It was not super thick crust and not greasy. We got the pizza to go it was too long of a wait to be seated. I did not try their clam chowder as the others in my party did and they raved about it. Haven't tried any of their other offerings, but their pizza is very good. They make a New York style pie with a flavorful thin chewy crust which is rare in Massachusetts. If you prefer the thicker, oiler, less chewy, pan-made Greek style version then this is not the place for you (at least not for pizza). read more

Our most recent visit here will probably be our last - at least for dinner or anything other than a slice of pizza at the take out window. That's not to say the pizza is spectacular, because its not. Its fine, average pizza that, if you're in the mood, will hit the spot. This is consistent with practically everything else on the menu - its all just average food, nothing great. However, the portions are small and prices are high. I was craving fried seafood and was tempted to order the Fisherman's Platter - however, I was told they wouldn't substitute anything for the scallops; not even a cheaper item like clam strips or even fries. Instead, I ordered the Fried Shrimp - as a side, I chose the pasta. Brought to me was a very modest portion of shrimp with the pasta marinara all on one medium-sized plate, with the pasta sauce running over into the shrimp. Typically, most restaurants include fries with a fried seafood dinner - not Giordano's, though. My wife ordered some baked seafood combination which was advertised as including lobster meat - there was one piece of a lobster claw on the plate (not even a whole claw). I've had other dishes here, before - mostly Italian dishes. Again, all average. Lastly, I should mention they don't take any credit cards. I'd normally give two stars for this type of review, but I'll give Giordanos one star because of the way they gouge tourists who have limited dining options in MV. read more

My boyfriend's family & I went to this spot on the vineyard today. I want to start by saying that the food was excellent and we had no complaints when it came to that. That's the only reason why I gave 3 stars! However, the service was AWFUL! We ordered some apps and a pizza. The server didn't even tell us her name and the place was so loud in there we didn't even hear her greet us but then she walked away and my boyfriend's sister said she heard her say something rude and walk away because she assumed we ignored her but we didn't even hear her to begin with. She had no personality what so ever and when I'd say thank you, she would ignore me. When she brought the app dishes over, she SLAMMED the plates on to the table and almost knocked my boyfriend's sister's phone right out of her hand. When the food came over, she never once checked how anything was. We had buffalo chicken tenders that were supposed to come with bleu cheese but it didn't and we couldn't tell her because she didn't check on us at all. I was even looking around to see if she was just terrible to us because she assumed we ignored her, but she was miserable with all her other tables. I didn't see her smile once the whole time. Then, towards the end when we had no food on the table left, she comes over and asks how everything was. A little late for that!!! She was just trying to be nice before the check came. I'm a waitress so I'm usually pretty understanding and I'll even explain the ins & outs of the restaurant business to others when they're getting impatient but I legit had no explanation for how terrible this server was. I only got a slice because I didn't want to carry around a pizza box, but it was great and left me wanting another slice. Later in the day, I tried the chicken fingers and french fries. The clam chowder is good, a little bit grainy and too much potato for my taste. I go to the Vineyard every year over the summer and hit all the local restaurants. Today was my first day and my associates and I decided on Gio's for lunch. We walk in to a dishoveled hostess and a moderately full dining area. We requested a table for 3 and the hostess proceeded to give us a puzzled look as to where to seat us. She then apologizes and says "sorry, I don't know where to put you guys" to which I respond by suggesting a table about 10 feet away and her dumbfounded reaction of me finding a table. We sit and do not see a server for a good 15 minutes. Finally a polite young lady shows up and takes drink orders and we were ready to order considering we had a copious amount of time to converse. Another front of the house worker came to us and requested us to move for no particular reason (we weren't being disruptive). After our drinks showed up at our less than convenient seating. We did not see our waitress again. We finally got picked up by a better server who actually filled our drinks and brought our food... AFTER A FULL HOUR. It wasn't even an elaborate order. 1 pizza. But it was delicious keeping this from being a 1 star. On our way out paying an exorbitant price for a pizza and mozzarella sticks and 2 drinks each; we were set to leave. To which another host was dumbfounded to seat a family coming through. There is a narrow aisle to get to the front door to which I resolved to walking to the side door.
